Restoring ipod software

I recently tried to update my ipod touch to the newest version, but it got stuck downloading and was not doing anything. I decided to unplug it, which put it in recovery mode. When I plugged it in and tried to recover it, it gets stuck about a third of the way on the "Restoring Ipod Software" bar. I've tried multiple times and nothing works.
Please help!

Sorry to hear that. Unless someone else jumps in here with ideas, I think you have 2 options.
1) Take it to an Apple dealer or call support to see if they have anyway of restoring it.
2) Attempt to put it in Download Firmware Update or DFU mode. [Instructions are here|http://www.podzombie.com/2010/01/using-dfu-mode-to-fix-ipod-touch-and-ipho ne-errors>
I hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

    - Cancel the restore. Force close iTunes if necessary. Disconnect the iPod and reboot the computer and try again.
    - Next try on another computer
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • "Restoring iPod software" freeze on iTunes?

When restoring iPod software on iTunes, on my 4th gen iPod, it goes all smoothly until the progressesion bar (at the top) appears to freeze near the end. No amount of time solves it. Any idea why this is?

Following Troubleshooting security software will frequently resolve this issue. This issue can be caused by the default packet size being set incorrectly. There may be third-party software installed that modifies the default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize or MaxGlobalTcpWindowSize entry into the Registry. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance in adjusting this TcpWindowSize values. Typically the default packet size is modified by 3G cellular network card software, ISP communication software, or Internet speed download optimization software. There are legitimate reasons to change the TCP/IP packet size and not use the Windows default settings (for example, network traffic optimization, home/broadband optimization, enterprise app optimization such as database apps, Exchange, and more). Deleting the "TcpWindowSize" or "GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize" entries in Windows Registry could affect the system's performance with other apps or on their network connections. Deleting the customized TCP/IP settings may require the reinstallation of any third-party applications that had modified the TCP/IP settings from the Windows default settings.
There are two ways to resolve this:
You can follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) , or follow the steps below to manually find and remove TcpWindowSize and MaxGlobalTcpWindowSize entries from the Registry.
For Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7: Go to the C:\Windows folder and launch regedit.
    Go to Edit > Find.
Search for "TcpWindowSize" entries. There are typically multiple entries of TcpWindowSize/GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize spread throughout the entire Registry. If "TcpWindowSize" exists, one or more third-party applications have changed the user's default Windows settings for TCP/IP.
Go to File and select Export. This step will export a copy of the Registry that can be used as a backup of the original settings.
    Delete the "TcpWindowSize" entry.
Search for the next "TcpWindowSize" entry and delete each one until the Registry no longer has any "TcpWindowSize" entries.
Close Regedit, restart the PC, and test.
If you are uncertain as to why these registry entries exist and the PC is a business computer, contact your network administrator and determine what values TCP/IP can be set in their Windows Registry setting so that the PC can update or restore an iOS device rather than deleting the "TcpWindowSize" entry.
If editing the registry does not resolve the issue, restoring on a different computer that did not install the communication software is the step most likely to resolve this issue.

  • "Restoring iPod Software" frozen

I recently had to restore my 4th gen iPod Touch and update to iOS 5. iTunes successfully created a backup but is now completely frozen on "Restoring iPod Software", with progress little over 5 percent. Should I do a hard reset? Or should I disconnect my iPod from the computer? If I already have the backup and the new iOS is already downloaded, shouldn't I be fine either way? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Try here:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
If the screen remains on and you can't turn it off, try letting the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour try the article again.

  • New Ipod touch update freezing at 'restoring Ipod software..'

    Hey guys
So I love my Ipod (have not jail-broken it) and saw there was a new update for the ipod software....so downloaded it. Its downloaded fine and then said it had to delete everything off my Ipod to update.
It deleted everything but when it got to the 'Restoring Ipod Software' part, the bar froze both on Itunes and on my ipod.
I've tried holding the center button and hold button so it resets, it tells me to connect to itunes but when I plug it back in it tells me my ipod is in recovery mode, it then goes through the same process and freezes in the exact same place.
This is really annoying, and if anyone has an answer to fix this (I don't mind if it means not getting this new crappy update) please please please tell me
    Thankyou

The backup that iTunes makes does not include music, and other items like synced photos that are synced to the iPod.  If these items are not on the computer/iTunes library on the computer on which the update was performed, the items will not be on the iPod after the update.  The following lists what is included in the backup.

  • Ios 5 updates stuck at restoring ipod software

I have Win7 Pro 64bit.  I have been using iTunes and my iPod touch 3G 64G just fine.  I went ahead and started the update to iOS 5 and it is stuck at restoring iPod software.  iTunes progress bar is a little over 75% and the progess bar on the touch is about 50%.  It has been this way for over two hours.
    iTunes version 10.5.0.142.
I am able to move around in iTunes.
Able to play video and music from files on PC.
How long is this supposed to take?  Do I need to do anything?
My laptop is a intel core i7 q720.
    I have 8GB of memory (DDR3 1333).
So I am pretty sure it is not a system processing issue..
Do I need to close iTunes and/or power off my touch?
I googled and searched here, but was nt able to find anything matching my issue.  Closest thing here was about the beta version.  I could of overlooked something though..
    Thanks!

Sat overnight and in exactly the same state...
When I attempt to close iTunes it pops up a message saying "iTunes cannot quit because it is restoring the software on the iPod '[podname]'. This message will be dismissed in 10 seconds."
So I killed it via task manager..  Left USB cable plugged in...
touch now has USB to iTunes 'symbol' on the screen..
So started iTunes.  Now get message stating "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode.  You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes."
Do doing a restore and update.  Extracted software,  Now doing a restore.  Progress bar on touch.  iTunes states "Restoring iPod Software".
I will reply with the outcome.
    Thanks.

  • Cannot restore ipod software

I need to restore the ipod software on my nano. The computer is recognizing my ipod when I connect it through the USB, and the updater program starts on its own. I clicked on the "restore" button, however, after about a minute I got an error message that says "Firmware Update Failure. Disk Write Error." and then I could go no further. I tried reinstalling the updater software, but that didn't help. Any suggestions? Has anyone else had this problem?
    Dell Dimension E510   Windows XP

I tried reinstalling the ipod updater and the itunes software as suggested on the link from Zevoneer (thanks, by the way), but that didn't work. I turned off the firewall and the virus software and tried reinstalling the ipod updater and the itunes software, and that didn't work. At one point, the updater did recognize my ipod, but then it gave me that same "firmware" error message again.
Now the ipod updater will not even recognize my ipod at all. Then the updater freezes and I have to use ctl-alt-delete to go to the task manager to exit from the program.

  • Ipod freezes at Restoring Ipod software during ios5 update

I have a 4g ipod touch and I tried to update it and everything went fine so i left it alone. When i came back, the bar on the ipod touch screen was full but the bar in itunes was really close to being done and it said Restoring Ipod Data, after a while i forced quit itunes and the ipod shows the connect to itunes sign. Every time i plug it back in it does the same thing and is stuck. Will this most probably be fixed after apple fixes the bugs?

    Hi,
Still no luck with this. The latest software does not fix the problem. Can anyone help?!

ever since 8 A.M EST, apple's server has literally been dead, with no backup plan. As of now, Apple is frantically trying to fix it so that iphone and ipod Touch users can get the iphone 2.0 software update.

Update to the latest version of iTunes. Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) users may need to download iTunes 10.6.3.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.
