Restoring Ipod w/o iTunes

Is there any way to restore (not reset) from your ipod?

Ok good to know more of a background. OK I have to be honest that I dont know anything related to windows. I have used macs for over 5 years now and have forgotten much of my windows knowledge. BUT I did did a search on google ...... have you tried that? I searched under "usb not recognized ipod" and got a few links that i read. Though much of the stuff went over my head it made me think of whether you have a laptop or a desktop computer? I am including a link that i found interesting.

How to restore Ipod database without iTunes?

Hi,
My iPod mini is visible to any aplication except iTunes. I have tried all it sugested on the manuals to fix it and nothing worked.
Others applications like RealPlayer and Anapod can see that the iPod is connect but can´t show its content. RealPlayer says that the database file doesn´t exist or is corrupted.
The only way I can see my files is accessing the iPod-Control directory using windows.
If I disconect it from the Pc I can´t see the musics that are on it.
I have made a copy of the songs that were on it and now I want to know how to restore it without use iTunes, because nothing makes iTunes see it.
Is there any update link that still work on apple website, so I don´t need to use iTunes?
I need to restore my iPod without iTunes because unistall, check register, restarts,... did not work.
The only way I can see the iPod is runing the diadnosis under the help menu. Nothing have worked to make it be showed as device.

I am extemely frustrated. I have an Ipod touch 3rd Generation 32gb. I was promted by Apple to update my latest IOS to 5.1.1. In doing so Apple has locked up my ipod to the point that it will not update and is stuck on the install usb screen. All these sync proceedures appear to have been a waste of time as I can not restore this device either. It is amazing as I have seen many poeple online with the same problem yet, Apple can not even give anyone a proper answer on what to do. I would just like to restore the device without connecting to my PC. I know hold down power and start till logo and then hold 10 seconds. Nothing is happening. I need to take a class on how to run an Ipod touch ?
Please someone help me to resote my ipod touch with out connecting to a PC. This should not be so difficult. I can build PC's from scratch but I can't update an Ipod? Something is seriously flawed. I mean even this discussion is flawed, they do not have an option for IPOD TOUCH in community.

Restore ipod mini freezes itunes and doesn't restore

I can't manage any music on my ipod mini with itunes. So I decided to try the restore...Everything goes smoothly until I get to the progress bar where itunes is "restoring" my ipod. After an hour of waiting and the bar sitting at about a millimeter completed I close itunes. I've also updated, and reinstalled itunes many times. My music is still on my ipod and it still charges and works perfectly except when I want to manage my music. Please help :P

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Restore ipod button in iTunes gives open file dialog - HELP!

I have an iPod touch which is non-working. When I plug it in to my mac, I get the message: "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes."
So in iTunes, I click the restore button. At that point, support docs say that I should be prompted to enter an admin password, but I'm not. All I get is a file open dialog box. Is it prompting me to find some backup file for my iPod? I don't know, but I don't have any such file. I have no idea what file I should be opening supposedly. I just want to restore my iPod to default factory settings. How do I do this?

Check USB connections
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
Common errors: 13, 14, 1600-1629, 1643-1650, 2000-2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response”, and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you see your error after changing your USB connections, continue to the next section to troubleshoot your hardware.
Check for hardware issues
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
Common errors: 1, 10-47, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1000-1020.

Restore iPod tunes to iTunes

Hi,
My computer recently had a virus which required me to reformat my unbacked up computer. As such, all my tunes (both iTunes purchased and CD sourced) are only on my iPod. While the iTunes purchased songs are already restored, am I able to restore the other music back to my newly formatted computer? I have copied the files from the iPod to the hard disk, opened iTunes, and double clicked each file to then have it brought up in iTunes. However, this just results in the song having an apostrophe next to it and the comment that the 'original file could not be found'. Can anyone please help me with this?

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. Need to restore iPod classic without iTunes

For some reason my friends iPod will not be recognize by any of the computers we've tried it on. So is there a way to restore it without iTunes?

There are no longer any standalone updaters which will restore an iPod with the latest firmware, they stopped being released when the function was incorporated into iTunes 7. All updates and restores have to be done in iTunes.

Cannot restore iPod Touch 5g: iTunes "Waiting for iPod"

SIDE NOTE: For a TL:DR, I've made all the important stuff bold.
I've been having this issue with my iPod Touch 5G where I cannot restore it no matter what I do.

When my iPod is not connected to the computer, it literally does nothing at all, no matter what you do. When you plug it into the computer, the computer recognizes it as an iPod, but it says "Serial Number: n/a", and will not display any info. I can tell my iPod detects button presses because I can connect it and disconnect it just by holding in the Power and Home buttons. After plugging it in, the bar at the top of iTunes says "Extracting software", then after that bar fills up it goes to "Waiting for iPod". It then says "Preparing iPod for restore", and then fluctuates between the last two, once or twice. After that, iTunes gets stuck on "Waiting for iPod", and stays there. The iPod, however, displays an apple logo with an empty progress bar beneath it. I took it to an Apple Store not too long ago, and they couldn't fix it. The employee there couldn't do anything more than what I've done. He said that my only option is to get a new one. I still haven't lost hope, though, because there has been two other cases where I've fixed devices where something like this has happened. It's just not working now.

click start then search ( win xp )... or start and under programs line type search music ( win 7 ) if searching win xp click search for music and video ... my point is chances are the files werent deleted from your dell but perhaps the index to the file folder where they are stored was removed... chances are all your music is on your computer. happy hunting

Restoring ipod tunes to itunes

I have a damaged hard drive and no backup. Yeah I know stupid. I've read other threads about the various softwares available to help copy tunes back to the PC from the ipod. I don't want another software on my ipod or laptop. I also have read about the manual process. Do you know if that manual process works with a 5th gen 30 g and the latest version of itunes? Have you tried it? Are all the instructions still correct? Thanks for any help you can provide.

How to restore ipod without updating to itunes 7.0

How can I restore ipod that uses itunes 6.05. I do not want to update to itunes 7.0 since I tried that recently with disasterous results.I want to stay in 6.05 and start over with my ipod.

"Restoring iPod software" freeze on iTunes?

When restoring iPod software on iTunes, on my 4th gen iPod, it goes all smoothly until the progressesion bar (at the top) appears to freeze near the end. No amount of time solves it. Any idea why this is?

Hang during restore process
Following Troubleshooting security software will frequently resolve this issue. This issue can be caused by the default packet size being set incorrectly. There may be third-party software installed that modifies the default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize or MaxGlobalTcpWindowSize entry into the Registry. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance in adjusting this TcpWindowSize values. Typically the default packet size is modified by 3G cellular network card software, ISP communication software, or Internet speed download optimization software. There are legitimate reasons to change the TCP/IP packet size and not use the Windows default settings (for example, network traffic optimization, home/broadband optimization, enterprise app optimization such as database apps, Exchange, and more). Deleting the "TcpWindowSize" or "GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize" entries in Windows Registry could affect the system's performance with other apps or on their network connections. Deleting the customized TCP/IP settings may require the reinstallation of any third-party applications that had modified the TCP/IP settings from the Windows default settings.
There are two ways to resolve this:
You can follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) , or follow the steps below to manually find and remove TcpWindowSize and MaxGlobalTcpWindowSize entries from the Registry.
For Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7: Go to the C:\Windows folder and launch regedit.
Go to Edit > Find.
Search for "TcpWindowSize" entries. There are typically multiple entries of TcpWindowSize/GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize spread throughout the entire Registry. If "TcpWindowSize" exists, one or more third-party applications have changed the user's default Windows settings for TCP/IP.
Go to File and select Export. This step will export a copy of the Registry that can be used as a backup of the original settings.
Delete the "TcpWindowSize" entry.
Search for the next "TcpWindowSize" entry and delete each one until the Registry no longer has any "TcpWindowSize" entries.
Close Regedit, restart the PC, and test.
If you are uncertain as to why these registry entries exist and the PC is a business computer, contact your network administrator and determine what values TCP/IP can be set in their Windows Registry setting so that the PC can update or restore an iOS device rather than deleting the "TcpWindowSize" entry.
If editing the registry does not resolve the issue, restoring on a different computer that did not install the communication software is the step most likely to resolve this issue.

Ios 5 updates stuck at restoring ipod software

I have Win7 Pro 64bit. I have been using iTunes and my iPod touch 3G 64G just fine. I went ahead and started the update to iOS 5 and it is stuck at restoring iPod software. iTunes progress bar is a little over 75% and the progess bar on the touch is about 50%. It has been this way for over two hours.
iTunes version 10.5.0.142.
I am able to move around in iTunes.
Able to play video and music from files on PC.
How long is this supposed to take? Do I need to do anything?
My laptop is a intel core i7 q720.
I have 8GB of memory (DDR3 1333).
So I am pretty sure it is not a system processing issue..
Do I need to close iTunes and/or power off my touch?
I googled and searched here, but was nt able to find anything matching my issue. Closest thing here was about the beta version. I could of overlooked something though..

Sat overnight and in exactly the same state...
When I attempt to close iTunes it pops up a message saying "iTunes cannot quit because it is restoring the software on the iPod '[podname]'. This message will be dismissed in 10 seconds."
So I killed it via task manager.. Left USB cable plugged in...
touch now has USB to iTunes 'symbol' on the screen..
So started iTunes. Now get message stating "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes."
Do doing a restore and update. Extracted software, Now doing a restore. Progress bar on touch. iTunes states "Restoring iPod Software".
I will reply with the outcome.
