Restoring itunes after a crash

Hi, fellow itunes users!
A few months ago,I expierenced some major crashing problems. My computer went down, and I lost ALL of my files and docs, including itunes!
If you have any tips on how to restore it, that would be great!

Help! I think my Dell laptop memory maxed out while playing Holiday playlist, iTunes started skipping, so I closed everything out and powered down. This morning, iTunes came up totally empty, no playlists, nada... I did the restore iTunes library procedure a couple times, no luck either. I do have a remote HD with all music files backed up but don't think I have iTunes library files backed up. I might have prior iTunes library files from several years ago, but I've added tons of music and customized playlists in recent years. I suspect iTunes bonked when memory ceiling was reached, so I relieved the memory space condition. How do I restore my vast playlists? Any help much appreciated at Holiday time..

I remember a lot of the songs I had. I did not know the computer had a problem (ITUNES was open at time of crash)and I saw that the screen was blue and had writing on it. I decided to shut it down. After 5 minutes I rebooted and discovered my itunes library had vanished. The logo is still on the desktop but all it says is that itunes cant be found unless you go to default MY MUSIC folder. One day, I hooked my iPod up to my computer and it told me that a couple hundred songs were not authorized to play on this computer. Then it removed them from my iPod, but left them in iTunes. Those songs were every single purhcase I had ever made on iTunes.
Later that day, my computer started freaking out. I made a copy of that purchased music to CD, and a few minutes later, my computer crashed and burned.
After reinstalling Windows XP Professional, I imported the burned music into iTunes. However, when I hook up iPod to the computer, it tells me that iPod can only sync to one library at a time, and do I want it to erase everything on the iPod (all of my music that wasn't purchased at iTunes) and overwrite it with everything on my current library. I tell it no, because I don't want it to erase everything on the iPod.
So how do I get to it actually "sync" by adding what's on my iPod to my iTunes library, and what's in my iTunes library to my iPod, without having to erase everything on my iPod?

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod, the transfer of purchased content has recently been introduced with iTunes 7. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

If your iPod is set to update automatically you just need to take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

My computer crashed however I was able to receover the hard disk and transfer onto an external hard drive. This holds all of my music from my itunes library.
So I can link it into my laptop.
Now my laptop itunes has some of its own files and purchased music.
2 questions.
How to I get my music from the external hard drive
as well as integrate it with the music which already exists on my laptop? Any help thanks very much!

I think we need a sticky for this.
Is there a tutorial or instructions to recover ALL your iPhone/iPod Touch apps from your PC or iTunes after a system crash and iTunes is no longer accessible even after uninstall and reinstallation? I heard one can call Apple Support and have them do a one time reset but for people like me who have more than one iTunes account that may be a problem since it would require several accounts.

Ok....i have some good news, I believe. Using King_Penguin's link and Apple's KB seems to have worked. I tried this under another windows profile on the same machine. The TRICK is to hold down CTRL W when opening up iTunes. This will prompt you to tell iTunes where the library is. The key is to copy everything from your My MUSIC\ITUNES folder. What is throwing me off is there is another option to, "Create LIBRARY". Not sure how that works. But the instructions are here: When you need to restore your backed up iTunes Library from your external hard drive to your computer, follow these steps:

Restored tabs after a crash are very old tabs, not my last session: how to fix this?

Whenever Mozilla crashes, which is often, my most recent session is NOT restored!! I get the oops page with 2 options: restore session or start new. I click restore session and instead of bringing me back where I was with the video I was watching that crashed in the middle, it brought me to about 12 videos prior! :-/
Can you guys fix this on your end? Surely it must be a Firefox glitch as this is new of this week: all 3 times my internet has crashed as done this whereas in the past, I'd be restored right where I left off. Browse your iTunes folder. Do you have files in folder in your media folder? In other words, did you really lose the media or did iTunes just lose track of it?

Its a bit more complicated than it sounds given that I changed my Apple ID about 18months before the crash. All purchases under the current Appled ID have been restored. However, everything that I bought under my first Apple ID has not been restored. How can i get this fixed?

Need to restore iTunes after crash

I am running iTunes on XP Pro and had it set up nicely to sync with my iPhone. Then my computer crashed and I had to do a fresh OS install.
Now when I connect my iPhone to my PC and it startes up iTunes, I get a message saying that my iPhone usually syncs with a different computer and I think threatens to wipe my iPhone clean of apps, songs etc.
I do have a backup of my files from before the crash. Does anyone know what I need to do in order to recreate the relationship between my phone and iTunes? I'm guessing there are a few files that I can copy form the backups I made to the newly installed iTunes folders?

All iTunes content including 3rd party apps is stored in an iTunes named folder located in your Music folder.
If you included the iTunes named folder with your computer's backup, with iTunes quit place the iTunes named folder from your computer's backup in the same location - in your Music folder.
You will also need to re-authorize your computer with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.

My computer crashed last week. Luckily I have been able to recover some of my data. However, I'm not sure if I will be able to get my iTunes back. And of course, I never did a backup thinking that this would never happen to me. On the up side, 90% of my library is on my iPod. If I am unable to recover the remaining 10%, would Apple allow me to download that data again if I still have my receipt?

Sorry, but officially Apple does not allow redownloads of purchased items other than iPhone/iPod touch applications. It's your responsibility to make backup copies in case something goes wrong with your system, as unfortunately it apparently did in your case, and you lose all the information on your hard drive. The official statement of their policy can be found here, among other places. If your hard drive was erased and you don't have a backup of all your purchased items and don't have them on your iPod, you're probably out of luck and will need to repurchase your tracks.
You can try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis. But don't count on it.

Restoring Library after PC Crash

My Windows PC with iTunes Library Crashed. Am trying to get to the point where my iPad, iPhones, and iPod can sync with the new library. I have transfered all the content from my devices to the PC to get the music files onto the new PC and into iTunes. I then exported the playlists of my phone onto the PC, and then imported those playlists into iTunes. I did have to use an app called Syncios to copy 10 MPEG audio files that would not otherwise transfer from my iphone to my PC. Once I copied those files to the PC via Syncios, I was able to import them into my iTunes Library...those files were from a CD, not the iTunes store.
Bottom line, it seems I have restored all my media and playlists from my phone. But when I try to sync which requires my phone's media to be deleted and replaced with that from the PC...its saying I dont have sufficient memory...I cant figure out why every thing fits now, but wont fit after the sync?

Additional info. On the music tab where you select which playlists to sync, the bar graph at the bottom seems to depict I should have additonal space...yet why I try to sync, it fails saying I need an additional 2GBytes of memory. Is that bar graph inaccurate? Do I need to delete the media off my phone manually for the sync to finally work? Seems like maybe its needing some temp space to get through the process?
