Restoring itunes library after OP system restore with user file backup option in Windows Vista

Trojan virus hit my computer and we had to restore for a backup. I had to redownload iTunes program, and my songs are not in there. And the songs that were in my original itunes library were saved to my computer, but when i try to open them, itunes opens, but nothing happens. Please help with this! If I synch my ipod to my computer, to the new itunes, will it wipe verything on my ipod, or will it tell me that there are things that are on my ipod that are not in my itunes library and it will ask if I want to transfer them? PLEASE HELP WITH THIS!!!!!

Try this:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
This will move the contents of the iPod to your computer. and sync the iPod to the computer.
It appears to me that something is wrong/corrupt with your music backup.

    Transferring iTunes Library to another system, from a Time Machine backup
    I have a large iTunes library that is backed up via Time Machine on an external drive.  I would like to hook up that drive to another mac and just transfer the music that is saved in the backup.  I don't want to restore anything else, simply transfer the whole iTunes library.  Is this possible?  If not, what is the best way to do something like this?
    Thanks!

    You should be able to restore iTunes and iPhoto files if the Lion system was running the same version of those applications that you'll have on the Snow Leopard system.  However, you won't be able to restore files for applications like Mail, Address Book, or Safari, as the versions of those won't match.

  • I deleted my itunes library (after backing up) now i want to restore from TM to my MBA but its saying there is not enough room even though the library is 22GB and there is 27GB free on my MBA??

    Hi everyone,
    I deleted my itunes library (after backing up to my time machine) to download a large torrent,  now i want to restore my itunes library to my MBA from time machine but its saying there is not enough room on my MBA even though the library is 22GB and there is 27GB free on my MBA??

    Here's something else to consider:
    Since Snow Leopard, OS X uses a Decimal count for file size. iTunes however still uses a Binary count. What that means is: your iTunes library shows one size, while the folder shows another. Depending on the size of your library, this can be a pretty big difference.
    Yours won't be that much, but it may be enough to prevent it from moving to the MBA from the TM.

  • Keeping song data in iTunes library after hard drive crash

    I have an iPhone 3GS that I used to sync with iTunes on my Windows PC. Then the hard drive on that PC crashed, but fortunately I had made a backup of my entire iTunes library on an external drive. Now I have a new Windows PC that I want to transfer my music to so I can sync it with the iPhone as before.
    However, since the crash I have continued to listen to music on my iPhone, so the play counts, song ratings etc in the backup copy of my library will be out of date. I thought that simply copying the backup library onto my new PC would allow my iPhone to sync with it as if nothing happened (so that the iPhone would update the song data on iTunes on my computer), but when I ticked the box to sync music, it warned me that it was going to do an "erase and sync". As I understand it, that means it scrubs the music off my iPhone together with its data, and then replaces it with the rebuilt library.
    Is it possible to persuade the iPhone to recognise the rebuilt library as the one it is allowed to sync to (without erasing its own library first)? Or even just copy the iPhone's song data to the computer (with or without the song files themselves) and then restore from that once the iPhone has done its erase & sync?
    Thanks in advance.

    Wonderful! The iPhone recognised its own library and synced happily, updating the iTunes metadata as I wanted.
    Rebuilding the library took a bit longer because the backup wasn't consolidated and the library didn't know where to find some of my music, but it was sorted with a bit of file jiggling. Now the two devices are getting on like best friends. Many thanks for your help.

  • All of a sudden (video) files added to my iTunes library after a certain date aren't playable on other devices.

    hello!
    All of a sudden I have a weird issue with playing video-files added to my iTunes library after a specific date.
    This is the situation so far:
    I encode the video for iTunes with the same settings for the last 3 years. I know these vids play on all my devices. AppleTV & iPad. All of a sudden videos added to my library after the 8th of september aren't playable on my AppleTV and iPad. I can play them directly in iTunes and by accessing them directly via the finder and quicktime.
    The following errors occur:
    When I pull the video from iTunes on my AppleTV.. the video simply doesn't play.
    When I pull the video from iTunes on my iPad I get a message that the file can't be found.
    When I push the video from iTunes to the AppleTV using airplay I get a message that there has occured an error while connecting to the AirPlay-device "Apple TV". The necesary file could not be found. In addition when the AppleTV is switched off it doesn't turn on doing this, suggesting that there is something missing on my mac itself.
    All the above errors aren't popping up when I choose a video that has been put in my library before the 9th of september. Then everything works as expected.
    This is what I tried:
    Turning off and on home sharing on all devices including the mac.
    Logging in wiht a different apple ID though using the same ID as before.
    I created a new iTunes library and populated with a video that was added after the 8th of september and one that was added before the 9th of september. Surprisingly the older one played and not the newer one.. while they both used the same encoding settings. The new library was locally on my mac as my original library is on a NAS.
    I encode my videos with Quicktime 7 Pro using the following settings:
    H.264 (current frame rate, key-frames:automatic, re-order frames, automatic bitsize)
    Medium Quality
    Multi-pass
    current resolution (which is always 1280 X 720)
    AAC sound
    44.100 kHz
    128kbps
    I'm using the Mountain lion 10.8.2 and iTunes 10.7 Mountain lion got updated a few days after 19th of september and iTunes i think as well. Both versions were released after this issue seemed to pop up.
    I also have two video-files encoded on the same day with the same settings that dragged into the iTunes library on the 9th of september. One works.. the other doesn't.
    So I wonder if there is somebody out there that can tell me what might have happened here and how I could fix this issue.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Seraphiel07.
    I have a very similar issue. Hardware involved:
    Apple MacMini (Mid 2011) - OSX 10.8.2. iTunes 10.7. Home Sharing enabled.
    Apple TV (3rd Generation). Home Sharing (access) enabled.
    Apple MacBook Pro (15" Mid-2009). OSX 10.8.2. iTunes 10.7. Home Sharing enabled.
    Apple iPad 2 (Wifi only). iOS 6
    Apple iPhone 4S. iOS 6
    All connected through:
    Apple Time Capsule 8.0211n (4th Gen)
    I have an iTunes library on the MacBook Pro, shared over "Home Sharing" and another (duplicate content, different library name) iTunes library on my MacMini, which is also accessed through the Apple TV.
    All software is current (as of Sep 26th).
    All movies are iTunes purchases. 80 in total.
    All files are purchased (and home shared) under one account.
    My last two iTunes purchases both HD movies on 09/17/2012 and 09/05/2012 refuse to appear on any device accessing either of the two Libraries over Home Sharing. It should be noted that every other movie (the other 78) all show up and play correctly. I therefore know it is not an issue with connectivity, otherwise I would see zero movies available.
    I have:
    1. Removed all content from each Library and re-added
    2. Upgraded the OS on the MacMini 10.8.2
    3. Tested viewing the two missing movies on other Apple devices and no luck.
    4. Turn home sharing on and off within iTunes and also on each device.
    It would appear to me that the issue is with the files themselves, rather than the devices as different devices and different versions have been tested.
    All comments welcome.

  • None of my iDevices can read my iTunes library after an hour of availibility. When I first start iTunes I can read the library, but after about 30 minutes my iPad's and iPhones can no longer access the library. I see it in the shared list, but no access.

    None of my iDevices can read my iTunes library after about 30 minutes. My iDevices lose connection to my library and  I have to do one of the three following things in iTunes to regain connectivity: 1. Restart iTunes 2: Stop / Start Home Services 3: Start playing a song.
    I'ts as if iTunes goes into a background or sleep mode. During the loss of connectivity my iDevices show that there's a library shared, but I cannot connect to it.

    Smae issue here, but I'm unable to get Home Sharing started again (after MAc and iOS restarts, Home Sharing on/off. etc.) This happend a few weeks ago and turngin Home Sharing Off/On fixed the connection issue b/w iPad2 5.1 and iTunes 10.6.1 running on a OSX10.6.8.
    I updated to iOS 5.1.1 on iPad2 today, watched a movie and then about 20 minutes into a 2nd movie I lost connection (Sharing tab in Video app disappeared and has not come back.) The update seems like the culprit, but odd it worked for over 2 hours before stopping, odd I can't get Sharing to work anymore (iTunes see's my iOS devices b/c I can conenct to iTunes to enter my passcod efor connecting the Remote app.) Appears to be an issue with iTunes broadcasting Home Sharing, even thougt it says it is on.

  • I have lost my itunes library after updating it and keep getting a message saying MSVCR80.dll is not installed when I try to uninstall/reinstall it???

    I have lost my itunes library after updating it. Have tried uninstalling/reinstalling it and it gets so far then tells me that it cannot be installed because MSVCR80.dll is not installed on my pc. I have no idea what this is and have googled it, followed links to sites that say they can fix it, only for them to scan, tell me I have 3 thousand issues and then want me to pay $30 dollars to fix it for me. This message also appears on firing up my pc too.
    Can anyone help please?

    I've been through the exact same thing and cannot seem to get an answer here. When you go to Manage Storage, does it have something at the top like "19.1 GB of 25 GB available"? I only have a Mail account with 5.3 GB in it and a Backups account with 553 MB in it. Obviously, these don't add up to 19.1 GB. There was no change in any of these numbers when I deleted all the same files you mention. With the free Mobile Me storage expiring next month, this is something I'm pretty concerned about.

  • Can't find my iTunes library after transferring it from Windows to Mac

    Hi!
    I've followed all the steps to transfer my iTunes library from an HP laptop with Windows XP to a MacBook Air using the Windows Migration Assistant, but when the process is finished (after waiting for more than 8 hours), I can't find where the library has been saved.
    I'd be really grateful if you could tell me where I can find it or if there's a problem with my computers.
    Thanks in advance!

    Migration Assistant creates a new user with the migrated data, so it probably created another user. To access to it, go to  > Log Out, and log in the new user. Then, your photos should be in Pictures folder.
    If you want to merge them with the other user, you can use an external drive or the Shared folder to transfer them to the first user

  • Database restore with just one backup set

    Hallo experts,
    I got a big problem with restoring my XE database. I have a newly created full backup from my XE. While saving the flashback_area I got a hard crash on my system but I saved the last backup set file on a server. Unfortunately I was not able to save other backup sets and I think, there was a special backup of my control files. The restore on another system does not work because of invalid piece.
    The data of this database is necessary for my work. Is there anybody out there who can help to restore the data with the existing backup set.
    I did not change the entire structure of my original XE database. I only created to schemas with data in. is there any solution to restore the data.
    Thanks for any help.
    Holger

    Hi you all,
    I think that somebody will be interested in the solution of my problem,so I post it here and in german on my website (www.datacubus.de).
    My XEdatabase is successfully restored and I walked through some undocumented and not supported features of ORACLE to win the challenge.
    The first fact is, that ORACLE XE has a very static structure if you use it as is. The datafiles are predefined and so a manual restore with a foreign backup piece seems to be possible.
    Here is my way:
    Create a backup of your controlfile
    ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE;
    Shutdown your database
    shutdown immediate
    Start the database in nomount mode
    [holger@MSA04071]$ rman nocatalog target /
    RMAN> startup force nomount;
    RMAN> quit
    Restore the datafiles
    I used the following script to restore the datafiles from the backup piece without any check:
    declare
    devtype varchar2(256);
    v_file varchar2(255);
    done boolean;
    begin
    v_file:='/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/flash_recovery_area/XE/backupset/o1_mf_nnndf_TAG20070420T234848_32lfb0w9_.bkp';
    devtype:= dbms_backup_restore.DeviceAllocate(type => '',ident => 'D1');
    dbms_backup_restore.RestoreSetDatafile;
    dbms_backup_restore.RestoreDatafileTo(dfnumber => 1,toname=>'/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/system.dbf');
    dbms_backup_restore.RestoreDatafileTo(dfnumber => 2,toname=>'/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/undo.dbf');
    dbms_backup_restore.RestoreDatafileTo(dfnumber => 3,toname=>'/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/sysaux.dbf');
    dbms_backup_restore.RestoreDatafileTo(dfnumber => 4,toname=>'/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/users.dbf');
    dbms_backup_restore.RestoreBackupPiece(done => done,handle => v_file,params => null);
    dbms_backup_restore.DeviceDeallocate;
    end;
    Start this script as sysdba. But by carefull. This only works if no entire change of datafiles had taken place!
    Reset DBID
    Because of the saved DBID within the datafile, the database can't be opened. But there is a little trick for resetting the DBID.
    shutdown;
    startup mount;
    execute dbms_backup_restore.zeroDbid(0);
    shutdown normal;
    Delete or rename existing Controlfile
    Edit trace file
    You have to modify your controlfile script as follows:
    1. Only use the CREATE CONTROLFILE... block
    2. Delete RECOVER DATABASE block
    3. Replace REUSE with SET
    4. Replace NORESETLOGS with RESETLOGS
    Create new control file
    Use the CREATE CONTROLFILE block for creation of a new control file.
    Open Database
    alter database open resetlogs;
    Much work but all my data is back and now I will backup the whole flashback_area to avoid further nightmares.
    Bye
    Holger

    I purchased a new iMac, I have  an old iPod mini I am trying to sync my iTunes library on my new Mac with my iPod. I purchsed additional music yesterday but I cannot get it to sync to load the music from my computer to my iPod.

    From Here   http://support.apple.com/kb/HE37
    I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
    Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

    I don't want to sync what is on my iPod to my iPad. (I have a 32gb iPod but only 16gb on iPad. The iPod I use mostly for music.) I can't seem to add the films I have downloaded onto iPad to iTunes. If I could do that, I could erase them from iPad to create more storage.
    This is intensely confusing, sorry.

    Answer.....
    Yes you will lose the films that you downloaded to the iPad when you sync with your own iTunes unless you transfer the purchases into your own iTunes library. Were these movies that you purchased? If so, you might be able to download them again for free. Do you have multiple computers that you sync from or is this someone else's purchased content?
    You can select whatever you want to sync to all of your devices in iTunes, you do not have to sync the same content to all device.
