Restoring iWeb

My Macbook lost its display. I knew that they might wipe the hard disk, and I had just finished updating my web site--since the last Time Machine backup. So I logged into the machine remotely and copied my files to a back up drive.
As I suspected, Apple wiped the disk, so I restored everything--except the iWeb files. I copied the latest versions into my Sites folder from my hard drive--but iWeb can't see them. iWeb seems to think it is starting from scratch--it comes up with a new site.
Happily, I was paranoid enough to make a complete copy of my entire user folder for this computer, so all of the files that used to be on the MacBook are also on the hard drive, organized exactly as they were before.
What do I need to do to get iWeb to see my old website?

Susan ~ Apple has a handy +Search Support+ page:

...If you type the following into the first search field there, you'll find the answer:
iWeb backup
or:
iWeb restore

  • Restoring iWeb from time machine backup manually

    hi there
my Macbook recently crashed and I restored my Time Machine backup, however this seems to have caused futher issues.  The apple Genius has formatted my laptop and suggested that I re-install everything manually.
How do I go about restoring iWeb as I can't seem to find any reference to my websites whilst looking manually through the TC backups.
    any help would be appreciated
    JP

thanks for your reply unfortunately I can use TM until I resolve the issue of whether I reuse the question I get prompted when loading TM
"You haven't selected a location for the TM backups
Set up a new disk or use a previous disk"
I am thinking possibly just use previous, but not found anywhere that helps with that?
back to my issue I still can't see the folder you mention.... sorry to be special not sure where to look
    Folder path
System( name of machine) - Date for TM - Macintosh HD - Library - Application Support = no iWeb folder, plenty of others for iLife and iDVD
I can send screen shots if required?
    thanks for your help

  • Restoring iWeb using TM?

    Hello,
I've done some changes in iWeb that I didn't mean to and I tried to restore iWeb, back to the way it was before I made the changes but it doesnt work.
I clicked on the app itself (and only the app) and clicked restore but it didn't do anything.
It said restoring and it was loading and everything but then when I opened the app the changes were still there. The app did not restore.
How can I restore iWeb back to the way it was a week ago using TM if just trying to restore the app itself doesnt work?

What you need to restore is usually ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/.

The iWeb application doesn't contain your site data. That file is:
    home/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2
That's the file you'll need to restore. This applies to pretty much every application I can think of - the program itself never contains your data, which is held somewhere else (eg iTunes and iPhoto Libraries are held separately from the program).

  • I built a website, using iWeb.  I backed up daily with Time Machine and OS 10.6.  My HD crashed.  I replaced the HD and installed 10.5. But now I can't restore iWeb and my domain file. How do I restore my site files on the new drive?

I obviously dont know how to use this forum...my question to the community seems to be the truncated phrase in the title block above..you can scroll thru it to see my whole question....basiclly,.my question is:  How do I restore my iWeb domain files which are kept in  user>library>applicationssupport>iWeb>domain in my Time Machine date listings...to a newly installed disc.  I had a disk crash, removed the failed drive and installed another. I then installed OS 10.5 (I didn't have a copy of my 10.6). Now I'm having difficulty figuring out how to get the iWeb files from the Time Machine external drive used with the 10.6 to the new drive running 10.5...any help muich appreciated....!!

Go to to your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder in the Finder and then enter  Time Machine.  Go back to the last backup that has the domain file, select it and use the Restore button.

  • How do I restore iWeb from saved, from my hard drive, from the web itself?

I have my iweb work files, a "saved" version  that I can recver the iweb version, an iinternallly store FTP like folder and the actual site itself online
I am unclear how they all work together?   for backup and restore.
For example I wnto create links on my real site. Buu I suspect that thy cnnot be fully tested until i uzse the real online version.
Can I use the interna foder versio to replace the live web site?  and how to do that.
CanI test external links from the internal folder version.
Then can I update the live site from that internal  folder back up.?
The manual is  notoriously silent on all tbis. and with the demise of Mobile me, may well be gone too.

Use the File ➙ Publish to a Folder menu option in iWeb 2:
If you want to backup your website the file that needs to be backed up is the Domain.sites file that resides in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. That file is the most important file of your website.

  • Restoring iweb site from idisk

My hard drive from a Mac with OS 10.4.11 recently died a painful death and was unrecoverable. My files were unfortunately not backed up as they should have been (lesson learned). I have a new Mac and am trying to be able to access my iweb site without having to start over again. All of the files are accessible via idisk, but is there a way to restore them so that I can actually make edits in iweb?
    thanks!

I'm sure you searched for an answer but couldn't find it : lost iweb file

  • HT3275 Does Time Machine restore iWeb projects?

I was working in iWeb when it suddenly quit. When it restarted, everything I had done this morning was gone.
Does Time Machine restore this? If so, how do I do it?

  • Restoring iWeb pages

    Hello,
hope someone can help. I recently made the mistake of adding a new website in iWeb '09 and was going to administer 2 sites using Godaddy as my host and publishing using ftp. Unfortunately I deleted the first site I had on there in iWeb and cannot get iWeb to open my original site. I have the saved folder containing all my original site pages etc. but when I click the domain.sites2 file, it opens iWeb but with the second website only. Is there a way I can restore my original webpages to iWeb??
    Thanks so much
    pw

I have the saved folder containing all my original site pages etc.
iWeb is not able to do anything with that.
Is there a way I can restore my original webpages to iWeb??
Not unless you have a backup somewhere (Time Machine?) of the Domain file as it existed before you deleted the site inside iWeb.

  • Restored iweb files in right place, won't work

OK, I restored my iWeb files in the users/myname/sites, but when I click on iWeb, it comes up with nothing, just like it wants me to start a new site. I just updated to 1.1.2, thinking that was the issue, and it's not. What gives? How can I get it to load my site? I asked about this before, and read it, and I did what it said, but it's still not working. I dropped it from a CD. Is there something else I should do?
    Thanks

OK, premature questioning..lol. I figured it out. The domain is what I hadn't droped, just "index". So I replaced the "domain" in the Users/myname/library yadda yadda. It works now.
    Nevermind <blush>.

  • Restoring iWeb website from .mac and idisk files

my hard drive on my PowerMac failed this week and was replaced.
i am trying to restore my website in iWeb on the Mac. I sync with iDisk and it appears all the content is in directories there under /web/sites/iWeb.
To start up iWeb with all files in place on my Mac, where do I need to put these files?
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

    J....
all of the iWeb files are saved in a file called DOMAIN on your hard disk. You find it here.
    harddisk/users/username/library/application support/iweb/domain
THIS is the file you have to back up after you publish or save your site. If your hard disk crashes again, just put the copy into the folder of this path and reopen iweb.
The post above about recopying the files into iWeb is right. It's not iWeb's fault that your disk crashed. Any program data that wasn't backed up, regardless of the application, was lost when that disk crashed.
I know this isn't what you needed to hear bro, but I hope it helps for the future.

  • Restoring iWeb Site

I have just done a clean install of Leopard and having been bringing in my data in stages. I have a publish to folder of my website on my desktop and also a clone of my previous system on external hard drive. How do I bring my one iWeb Site into the newly installed iWeb 08?
    Thanks
    Stu

in the cloned files you should be able to find the "domain" file in the "username"/library/application support/iweb
put this file in the same place in you new setup.

  • Restoring iWEB 08 sites

    Hi,
I am really hoping that someone can help here!
Last week my HD died in my 6 month old Macbook - now good. Anyway, now that I have stopped crying, and have a new hard disk etc - its onwards and upwards!
So, I have a .MAC account, and my main iweb site is published to this. How can I get this back into iWEB or do I really have to recreate it?
2nd - I also used iWEB to create a number of other sites which are hosted elsewhere. Same thing, how can I get these back into iWEB?
I fear the worst here - and quite frankly if that is the case that everything needs to be re-created then thats a pretty poor show, but at the moment I am keeping the fail and looking forward to a reply for some of you experts
    Thanks in advance
    Richard

You can have all your sites on one domain file - this is the standard way of doing things.
Its easier if you split the up so that you can load them into iWeb separately and publish them individually.
You can do this by using the freeware application iWebsites...
    http://mistergregg.com/cocoadrillosoftware/iWebSites/
Or you can do it manually ....

  • Restore iWeb link to .Mac?

    Hi there,
I have lost my system data (Not apple's fault) and had to re-install my OS.
Now I have to re-connect my iWeb with an existing iWeb site on .Mac.
How do I do that if I don't have a backup? My files are on idisk but how to get 'm back in iweb?
    Thanks
    R.

Hey guys, thanks for this! Awesome feedback. I'm travelling right now so I won't be able to give this a try till end of the week. I'll be back with the feedback.
I'm i'm lucky I might actually have that file still somewhere out there.
However fixing the issue is most important, it's a bit odd that although .mac and most (or all?) of it's services are mirrored thru iDisk that this, where one fiddles with files a lot, isn't a part of that.
Well, I won't complain, let's just say that iWeb is pretty slick if you want to have something up and running quickly but that we'll probably have to wait til 2.0 for more advanced stuff.
    Later!
PS My system lost it's integrity through bad memory... things got so bad that it even corrupted the CONTENT of the backup files (Using Apple Backup) while nothing indicated that during the backup process itself. Just be warned... I have the feeling that 10.4.4 is a LOT more picky about hardware! I used 'memtest' (google for it) to identify a faulty 1Gb mem module.
    iMac G5 1.80"   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   1Gb RAM (After 10.4.4. spit the other 1Gb modules out)
