Restoring keywords, part 4

I feel like I've sunk into a saga with no end and no one to help me except dear Curt Y. But here's what I'm concluding. The restoring or reactivation of keywords is a haphazard process at best and hardly documented, if at all. And yet maintaining your keywords is so important and takes such an investment of time! TO have this feature fail you, means that you are not going to have a very high opinion of Bridge, which is where I stand right now.
My keywords are slowly reappearing in the master list in the keywords panel without any discernible rhyme or reason, not by me anyway. Sometimes they reappear because I remembered the keyword and did a search for it. Sometimes they seem to reappear on their own (my theory is that if there was more than one keyword on an image and I searched for one of the keywords, I would get the other keywords as well. But this is only a hunch.)
If I have to bring all the keywords back into the list by searching for them, I'm in for a laborious process. I have a couple hundred keywords and I'm sure I can't remember them all.
I am currently without the ability to assign new keywords or old keywords to new images. If the keyword doesn't appear in the list, the documentation tells me that I can type the word into the box at the bottom of the keyword panel instead of checking the box next to the keyword in the list. But this does NOT connect to the keywords already established. For example, I have a keyword for "yellow," but it wasn't back in my list yet. I typed in "yellow" in the box and watched Bridge create an annexed list at the bottom of my truncated original list called "other keywords." So I now have a yellow in the first list and a yellow in the second list and not a clue on how to merge them.
Would I be correct in saying that Bridge is the ugly stepchild of Photoshop and that it suffers from neglect? It seems a rather unstable program to me, crashing out more often than Photoshop ever does. And there seems to be no documentation of the complicated but critically important business of getting your keywords up to speed after a clean install.
All help will be most gratefully received.

Cheska,
If I'm reading your plight correctly I may have found a solution to your problem.
I recently upgraded from Windows XP Pro SP3 x86 to Windows 7 Pro x64. After reinstalling the Adobe suite I found that my keyword check boxes were lost.  I had spent much time setting up keywords for various groups that I shoot for. To restore them would take a lot of time. After some poking and prodding and testing I found a solution that works for me. I have CS3, hopefully this will work for you.
On the XP computer open Windows Explorer and locate the keywords file. The file that contains the keywords is:
Adobe Bridge Keywords.xml
Mine was located in:
C:\Documents and Settings\Steve\Application Data\Adobe\Bridge CS3
Copy the file so that you may put it on the new computer.
On the new computer locate the keyword file. Mine was in:
C:\Users\Steve\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS3
Rename the keyword file to:
Adobe Bridge Keywords.BAK
This is so that if something goes wrong you can restore it.
Copy the keyword file from the old computer to the folder that has it on the new one.
Open Bridge and VOILA! there they are!

  • Restoring Keywords, Part 2

After a clean install and with your help, I've found that the keywords are still attached to my images. However, I haven't figured out how to get the panel back that is just a check-off list of all the keywords I've established so that I can add keywords to new images. In the metadata window of Bridge, I'm used to seeing a list of in the left-hand panels of all the keywords I've established so far so that I can pick from them to apply the right ones to an image. I can't seem to get this view back. I can click on an image that has been keyworded and see what keywords are assigned to that image, but cannot see the whole list. Thanks so much for your help!

  • How Do I save and restore keywords, categories and tags in PE6?

I have my photos backed up on an external hard drive, but if and when my hard drive crashes, how do I get back the tags, keywords, categories, etc. that I have used in the PE 6 Organizer?  Can I save them and, if so, when I need to restore this, how do I do that?  How do I reconnect tags, categories, keywords, etc. with photos that I re-import after a hard drive crash?

John: Many thanks for this help.  I use CS3, but my mom has PE6 and I'm trying to help her.  I'm not as familiar with PE6.
    Again, thanks,

PSE keeps your keywords, categories, albums, stacks, version sets, captions, notes, dates, and star ratings in a file in a "catalog folder".  (Do Help > System Info to find the location of your catalog folder).  When you make a backup with the PSE File > Backup command, it copies all your photos and the catalog file into the backup.   When you restore from that backup, it copies that catalog file and all your photos to the location you specify.

  • Restore only *part* of an iphone backup??

Is it possible to restore only part of an iphone backup??
I had exhanged a 3gs at the store yesterday- backed up the old phone before returning it. I used Itunes to set the phone up as a "new" device.
After synching , all of my contacts were there, and everything else I needed.
The only thing I'm missing is the pictures that I took with the old phone.
I don't want to dump everything from the old phone on my new one, just the camera roll. Is this possible?
The old backup is still on my PC.

This application might help you: http://www.reincubate.com/labs/iphone-backup-extractor-how-extract-files-iphone- backup-windows/#/res/i/labs/iphonebe/3_wizard.png
When you get them back you might want to consider transferring them to your PC and then selecting the ones you really want to sync back to your phone. See this: Improve iPhone backup time by reducing the Camera Roll, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3603

  • How to restore keywords and albums in PE10?

My computer had to be reformatted with the operating system re-loaded (Vista).  I reloaded PE 10 and then moved my saved photos back into the software.  the problem is that all of my tags (various family and friends) seem to have disappeared completely from the Organizer as has an album I painstakingly set up.  I have all the photos, but a subset of them are not  organized into the album I created.
Is there any way to get back my tags (the categories aren't even showing in Organizer and the photos aren't tagged)  and to get back my album?
Also, the various versions edited versions of the photos, which were stacked, have disappeared. How do I recover them?
    Many thanks!

All of the data that you apply to images in the Organizer (keywords, albums, stacks, etc) are saved as part of a database catalog file. The question at this point is whether this file was also backed up and if so, you will need to restore it.
The default location of the catalog can be found here, but I'm unsure how this would be applied to your backup software: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/elementsorganizer/using/WSae2ea3b149d0c3591ae939f103860b3d59-7 f59_WIN.html#WSae2ea3b149d0c3591ae939f103860b3d59-7f58_WIN

  • Restoring keywords & edits to Library

I recently lost my Library6.iPhoto file to corruption and in the process I lost some editing and keywording changes I had made. I have recent backups to this file that I am going to use but the recent keywording and editing changes won't be on it. I do also have a backup DVD that I made recently via iPhoto's Share/Burn command which I think will have many of these keywording and editing changes. What is the fastest/safest way to restore these changes to my libary?
    Thanks,
    Win

    Terence,
Not sure you understand my situation. I was able to repair the Library problem itself by deleting the damaged Library6.iPhoto file and installing a recent Library6 backup. The trouble is that said Library6 backup didn't have the most recent editing & keywording changes because it was made several days before.
Happily I also had made a backup of the film roll in question after editing and keywording a number of images in a previous session. As far as I understand Share/Burn's function it would have also saved the editing/keywording changes made just prior to that backup being made.
So now I have a DVD containing edited/keyworded images that also exist on the harddrive without the editing/keywording. My question is how do I get those edits and keywords reattached to the images?
    Thanks,
    Win

  • Restoring keywords

I had to do a clean install. I'm using Windows XP and Photoshop CS 4. When I browse in bridge, my images are still there but the keywords are not. Please tell me I can restore these keywords as to redo them would take about a week! I'm assuming the metadata is still attached to the images but that for some reason it's not showing (although other metadata, the stuff the program picks up from the camera automatically, for example, are showing. Thanks so much for your help!

Go to edit/preferences/thumnails and in lower hafl of screen there is Additional Lines of Metadata.  Make sure you have a check mark for keywords in one of the drop down boxes.

  • System Copy/ Oracle Backup/Restore as part of migrating from 32 to 64-bit

    Source system (I386): R3E47 Ext Set 2.00 SAP_BASIS 620 Kernel 640 Windows 2000, Oracle 10.2.0.4, non-unicode
    Target system (x86-64/AMD64): R3E47 Ext Set 2.00 SAP_BASIS 620 Kernel 640 Windows 2000 Oracle 10.2.0.4, non-unicode
Am using method System Copy/ Oracle Backup/Restore to migrate from 32 to 64 bit (HOM System Copy).
    Actions on source system:
    a) Upgrade from 9.2.0.7 to Oracle 10.2.0.4
    b) Used ora_br_copy.bat to generate CONTROL.SQL and init<sid>.ora
    c) Switched logfiles
    d) Performed offline backup
    Actions on target system:
    a) Installed Oracle 10.2.0.1 and patched it to 10.2.0.4
    b) Used CD 51033746 "6.20/6.40 based products Installation Master (Edition May 2008)" to install the CI
    c) Started installation of the DB instance selecting System Copy/ Oracle Backup/Restore (same <SID> for source and target systems)
    Relevant input parameters used:
    Database schema: SAPR3
    Database character set: US7ASCII
    d) When SAPINST stopped to allow for restoring of datafiles, logs and init<sid.ora>:
    - copied datafiles and logs to the usual place
    - copied CONTROL.SQL (edited to include utilrp.sql and utlrp.sql for the migration from 32 to 64) to the DB-instance intallation . directory.
    - copied generated init<SID>.ora to the <ORACLE_HOME>\database
    e) Resumed SAPINST.
David Byrne in a previous post suggested: "check your oracle alert file in case there are errors there you may need to update the word size for the 64bit install. Errors like this in the oracle alert file would suggest that.,
    ORA-12012
    ORA-06544: PL/SQL: internal error, arguments: [ORA-06544: PL/SQL: internal error, arguments: 56319], [, ], [, ], [, ], [
    ORA-06553"
Well, I am getting ORA-06553: PLS-801: internal error [56319] but then my edited CONTROL.SQL (which is mainly a CREATE CONTROLFILE as it would be obtained with a ...BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE) includes at the end this:
    shutdown immediate
    startup upgrade
    spool utlirp.log
    @?/rdbms/admin/utlirp.sql
    spool off
    Shutdown immediate
    Startup
    Spool utlrp.log
    @?/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql
    Spool off
    exit
which is supposed to do just that... (I think)
    Help, anyone?

    > Trying to cheer me up, are you?
    No
    > It is NOT free that reorganization! Quite expensive, actually, paid for in time! But you're right... the database needed a reorg anyway :-\
True, not "free" - it takes time but the data will be nicely aligned then
    > And why would I have to reconfigure all those 10.2 features? Everything's either in the database or init<sid>.ora, ain't it? And my database is a pretty 10.2.0.4 with all those nice features already activated...
No - not really auotmatically if you upgraded from 9.2 And "init<SID>.ora" is past, you nowadays use "spfile" If, of course, e. g. Automatic Undo was activated in 9.2 then it's there of course in 10.2 too.
    > One sticky point... I haven't really read the r3load procedure yet and I will before I import, but... I would say I don't have to do anything about the 32->64 bit, right? I mean, it should behave properly while reloading on 64-bit...
The exported content is about 10 % of the size of the system, it's database and OS independent so yes, you can import it nicely on 32bit. Another tip: make sure you don't just use the default configurations for R3load, it will take a HUGE amount of time. Use the package splitter (builtin-in in sapinst) so you get a much higher parallelism when importing.

  • Restore only part of iTunes backup

I faced a problem with my OS (see dicusssion mobiledata sliders position not persistant)
With iTunes I did a OS reset.
Then I had the choice of
    1. "recover from existing backup"
when I chose this then the bug will be brought back on my iPhone - when finished everything is like before (what seems to be purpose of it)
    2. "setup as new iphone".
when I chose this then there will be a new and clean environment. Only a few things I had to do manually. Apple ID, Mail Account ...
But now - all may data have to be restored step by step to avoid to again have the bug on my iPhone.
As I'm not a power user APPs and things like PDF files or photos were quickly restored from HDD folders.
What's left now is Contacts, Notes, Reminders and iMessages.
I do not find a way how to restore them without also restoring the bug.
Is someone out there to help.

Apple does not offer any way to selectively restore from the back up. There are third party apps that purport to do that but I've no experience with them.
Also, Apple is not reading here. Submit your feedback directly to Apple using the appropriate link on the Feedback page:

  • Restoring keywords that were deleted when moving from iPhoto to Aperture

I recently migrated from iPhoto to Aperture, and this apparently involves losing a TON of metadata. One new discovery I've made is that for my older photos (i.e., ones added and edited a few years ago when I was using an earlier version of iPhoto), the keywords have been deleted.
More specifically, if I have a photo and it has keyword X, then TWO copies appear in the Aperture library:
    - the original image, with the keyword "iPhoto original" AND the keyword X
    - the modified image, with only the keyword "iPhoto external edited"
(Note that I have not used any external editors; this is just how iPhoto seems to interpret images that were edited with older versions of iPhoto)
    This is definitely buggy behavior.
This means that if I have a "best-of" keyword and I make a "Smart" album, it gets filled with original, unedited versions of my "best of" photos.
Is there any way to fix this without going one-by-one through THOUSANDS of older photos and manually copying the keywords from the original to the modified?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Hope we get an answer - I'm in the same situation as you, though I just went from iPhoto to A2.x on an older G5 tower. I've been debating whether to take the time to go through them, reorganize "better" than they were under iPhoto or wait for a more elegant solution...

  • The new version has made it hard to easily view recently closed tabs. Is there a way to restore that part/function of the browser?

In the older version (do not know which number), there was an easy way to view all the recently closed tabs from a drop-down menu, which could be accessed from the top-left of the browser.
Now, you have to go to History>View History Sidebar. And even then, there is no view for the recently closed tabs.
I liked the simplicity of being able to see the last tab that had been closed, and the one before that, and the one before that — all in chronological order. Now, there is no way to tell which tabs/links were closed when.
I hope this makes sense. ... I even installed a few add-ons to help me with this issue, but they didn't do the job quickly and easily.

That's not bad, but it does not give me control over opening the exact tab I need. I assume this opens all tabs that were closed in any given session? That could be a lot of tabs. I do miss the fine-grained control and convenience of the older version. Sorry, I sound picky, but this issue has really affected my browsing and working experience quite a bit.
Anyway, thank you for your time and help, Philipp.
Hopefully the developers will put it back in at some point.
