  • Unable to restore Laptop

I recently purchased a Envy DV6-7200ea Laptop and created media recovery disk as instructed. I tried to recover the laptop via media disk and everything installs correctly untilI receive message that installation is not complete. Try again. It is been three days now. No recovery partition to work from. So far the laptop is not working at all. Not even possible to install Windows 7 to bring it back to working order. Only operating system I can install and works is Ubuntu.
Try to purchase recovery disk but also not succesful. I have to mention that this is my third HP Laptop and all recovery media seems to fail to work when needed. Even the purchased ones. I was very fortunate in the past to make clean installs with purchased Windows OS.
Would really appreciate some advice and how to go about to restore laptop or worse return to factory.

    Hi,
G6 is a series of many models, what is yours. Normally the laptop should come with a software which allow you to watch DVD movies on your computer (given it has DVD player). The software can be PowerDVD:

  • Installation SSD into laptop HP Pavilion g7 2025sr

I want to add SSD into laptop - HP Pavilion g7 2025sr. (SSD Transcend SSD370 Premium 128GB 2.5" SATA III MLC (TS128GSSD370))
    Questions:
    1. What about the compatibility with this laptop?
    2. Could I use a SSD on maximum settings (reading-530 MB/sec, 470 MB/sec) ?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

No problem. The SSD will install and work. However, you ask whether it will take full advantage of the potential speed of the SSD, which really means you are asking if the SATA ports can do SATA-III (600 Mbps) transfer speed. The chipset used, AMD A70M, is capable of SATA-III and all indications are that your laptop will do SATA-III transfers. Even if not, the difference between a SATA-II and a SATA-III is negligible. Using a computer is like driving a road course, not the Bonneville Salt Flats. Very rarely do you hit the top theoretical transfer speed. So do not overthink it just go for it and enjoy.

  • Laptop hp pavilion g6 2016 tx not charging or booting

My  laptop is hp pavilion g6 2016tx ( Intel i 5 with 1GB AMD graphics 4 GB RAM, 500GB HDD 15'' screen ) which is around 2 years old and now out of warranty.  I had a strange problem with it. I used it till last Sunday ( 24/08/2014) and after use I properly shut it down and kept in my laptop bag. On Monday evening when I was switching on it was not  booting. I plugged in the charger and then noticed that it was not charing and no LED light for charging. I did hard reset ( by pressing the power on button mor than 30 sec by removing battery and charger and then trying to power on) but system not booted nor charging. I checked output voltage of charger and it was OK, battery is also fine.
I took my system to authorised hp service centre on 28/08/2014, and in front of me they tried to switch it on and then told that there can be motherborad problem, and they will diagnose and tell me next day what is the exact problem.
Next day, 29/08/2014 evening they told me that some liquid spill is there on keyboard and NOT A SINGLE KEY is working. I told them that there is no chance of liquid spill as I am the only one using the laptop and until last shut down on Sunday ( 24/08/2014) laptop worked very well and all keys were OK.
Then they told that they tried to boot with a different motherboard and got error screen (blue) while booting, and  toldme that I have not shut down my system properly last time and even if they replace motherboard I may have a corrupt OS. They also told that they don't have spare Processor for checking my laptop (intel i 5 CPU) and have to order for new one. I asked them whether processor is faulty, then they said nothing.
I am a graduate in Electronics and Post Graduate in Computer Applications, and for past 20 years working in IT dept of a Bank and have experience in harware trouble shooting as well as on Software.
I told the service center people that I cannot believe that there is any liquid spill on key board and NONE of MY KEYS are working, because until my last use and shutdown on Sunday, system was working fine and no one else touches it other than me. I told them that when you replace motherboard, OS may give blue screen because of HW compatibility, but they are telling me that I did not shut down my system properly.
They are telling all unbelievable nonsense (as telling to a layman who doesn't know anything) to me which cannot be digested by me.
I feel my system can have some shorted component at power supply area on mother board or maximum a faulty mother board. But the service center people are trying to tell that my keyboard, motherborad , cpu as well as graphics card etc..( list can grow since they have not given me quotation as promised on 29/08/2014).
I doubt some foul play by the service center and they are trying to cheat me by removing good components and making me pay more than half of my laptop purchase price ( Rs. 46500/-) .
I have made some markings on my motherborad , battery , HDD and RAM to identify it in case some one changes it. But how will I know if they are removing my good Processor, as well as graphics card or even mother board which may have component failure at power area which is serviceable.( Like MOSFET, Capacitor etc).
How I can get the serial nos of all components of my laptop or identify if someone replaces it.
What could be the booting/charging problem . since my system worked fine until last shutdown.
I request help and suggestions on this, like what to do if the service centre cheats me.  Please Help!
    Regds,
    Sdev

Thank you for the reply. I am waiting for the quotation from hp. Sure I will contact hp directly. But the call centre support in these kinds of tech issues are of no use, at least from my experience. I did talk to the head of service dept (at service centre), and he told me that they don't have spare board or processor and have to order to hp once I accept quotation, but I can choose to go for replacement of any faulty components, once they receive the items from hp or  I can opt for just walk away from them without service by just paying their service charge of Rs. 850/-. In that case I have to find out some reliable fellow who does chip level service ( if at all possible.)

  • Installing Updates on a Restored Laptop

Hey, I am just a granny, not a geek, so if you'd answer this question, I would deeply appreciate it.  I can't find the answer to this particular question anywhere.
I am going to restore my X305-Q705 (yeah, I know, it was overkill, but the sound system was awesome so I got it anyway), and I need to  know how you know which updates to install.  I downloaded all the ones that listed for my pc and operating system (whew!  I hope I have enough life left!), but won't some of them have been replaced by newer updates (or are those removed from the update page?).  Will it warn me if an update is not needed?
Will I be doing the correct thing if I restore my laptop with my recovery disks and then install everyone of those updates listed on the Toshiba update page for my Vista Qosmio?  Does it matter which order?
THANK YOU in advance for any guidance you might care to share!  I appreciate it.  I am not the knitting kind of grandma, but I am certainly not lucky enough to have all the brain cells (left, anyway) of those precious geeks (gotta love 'em, right!).
I will await your words of wisdom...

    Qosmio X305-Q705
Don't fret, Donna. After you've restored your laptop, it will work well without Toshiba upgrades. But you should go to the web site and click Support Bulletins. Look through them to see if any fix things that don't work right. If not, feel free to leave things as they are.
The only thing there that would really concern me is this one.
Incorrect power-on password prompt -- with older BIOS versions
The BIOS is not changed when you restore the hard disk from Toshiba recovery media. So if you've upgraded it, you don't need to do it again. If you have not, then do it with this version. After downloading and decompressing the file, read the instructions and choose to make the bootable CD instead of flashing the BIOS from Windows.
ACPI Flash BIOS version 2.10 for Qosmio X305 (PQX32U) for Windows 32/64-bit
Windows updates are another matter. You really do need to update Windows Vista to Service Pack 2 (and beyond).

  • My laptop ( hp pavilion dv6-6b27nr entertainment PC) willl not start up. the screen is blank.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6-6b27nr Entertainment PC   (Win 7) It would start up with the message "BIOS RECOVERY" .  It then would not start up at all.  I took it to a repair shop, they contacted HP and got it working.  i took it home and it worked just fine the same day, however when I tried to use it the next day the screen is just blank. i tried the take out the battery process with no effect.  i then tried tapping the f11 key at start up.  the fan came on and it made some noise, but has failed to show anything on the screen.  When I turn it on the caps lock key blinks continually in a sequence of two blinks.  (When i brought it home from the repair shop I downloaded malwarebytes and quarantined 87 pups etc. )

    HI @owe ,
Thank you for your query, I will do my best to help!
I grasp that you received a bios error and the notebook would not start.  You took it to a repair shop, who contacted HP and got it back up and running. When you took it home it ran fine.  You downloaded malwarebytes, installed and ran it, and quarantined 87 pups etc.  When you tried to use it the next day you get a blank screen and the lights blink twice.
Here is a link to  Computer does not start and the LEDs blink or the computer beeps .  Two blinks again refers to the bios.
You should not be having a bios problem so soon after just having it repaired.
There may be a hardware issue that is causing this and I would test the hardware  rule  that possibility out.  Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7, Vista)
If you are still unable to determine any problems, you would have some options.
You can try to restore the bios yourself.   Restoring the BIOS
As you just got it back from the repair shop, you could take it back to them to see what they say.
As you stated that the repair shop called HP, you may be able to acquire a reference or case number to refer to and call them yourself. Just to clarify you do not need the case number to contact HP support but it would allow them to more easily locate  any case notes from the previous call.
