Restoring Library after installing iTunes 7.02

I recently upgraded to 7.02 only to discover that none of my music was anywhere to be found. Dang! Then, of course, I found out that others had had the same problem. When I read the forum entries telling me how to find it in "My Music" and "Previous libraries" folders, etc. I was very frustrated, because the files seemed to have entirely disappeared from my computer. The folder was there, and the iTunes data files were there, but no actual music files were in the Music folder or anywhere else I could find on my computer.
No problem, I thought, I’ll just backload from ipod to computer. Then I read that iTunes does not allow you to reload from your ipod to the computer… **** again!
Then I figured out that even though iTunes wouldn’t facilitate a transfer backward from ipod to computer, it should still be possible, since the ipod is essentially just another hard drive. And it worked. Here are the steps I followed (I use Windows XP). Perhaps they will work similarly for others in the same situation:
1. Connect the ipod to your computer, and close iTunes when it opens. Go to My Computer, then to the ipod. Right click and select “Open as Portable Media Device”. Then open ipod, and find the “Ipod Control” folder, in which you will find a “Music” folder. Inside are folders with names consisting of “F” followed by a number. These contain all the music files.
2. On your computer, go to the “My Music” folder and find the iTunes folder and then the folder called “iTunes Music”. Copy the entire contents of the music folder you found on your ipod to this folder.
3. Then you have to go into the iTunes folder (in your "My Music" folder) and find the data file named “iTunes Library.itl” This is the file that organizes your library in itunes, names them, etc… but it is the new one that 7.0 loaded and replaces all the information you had before. You need to take it out of this folder (I placed it on my desktop for the time being, and changed the name slightly). Then, within the iTunes folder, you’ll see another folder titled “Previous iTunes Libraries”. Open it and there will be a data file there ending with a date and the extension .itl. Change its name to “iTunes Library.itl” and move it out of that folder into the iTunes folder (replacing the one that was there).
4. Now you should be ready to go! Open iTunes, and under “File” select “Add folder to Library”. Then select the folder you have just copied from the ipod. If everything is working right, itunes will retrieve all the information about the files and (unless you tell it not to), even go out and find the album art.
This worked for me for all the cds I had manually loaded; it did not transfer any of the files I had loaded into the ipod from podcasts.
Good luck!

  • Problems with my library after installing itunes 7

I have just installed itunes 7 and when i set it up i have obviously clicked on something wrong as it has rearranged my entire collection and renamed everything, it has put every file from my computer in my library. Is there any way of taking it back?

Try using the restore function on windows xp if you have it turned on that is. Click start then go to all programs then accessories then select system tools then select system restore. If you didn't turn this function off you will be able to go back to a time before your upgrade to itunes 7 and all your music will be back the way it was before the upgrade.
    Hope that helps you...

  • Restore library after install

Did a clean install of 10.10.3 and the Photos library restored. The display is a complete mess at the moment; most the icons just black or white and no images. Does anyone know of a way to force the application to rebuild the icons, like some cache file or other display files that can be dumped and force the application to rebuild? Currently the application is just this side of unusable.

You can't modify the Library folder for the currently logged in user. Also you don't want to do the copy from the TimeMachine folders - those files have special permissions and ACL attributes that the real Library doesn't need and will likely cause problems.
What I would do if I were you would be to restore the Library folder to a temporary location, then logout and with another admin type user (create another if you don't already have a spare admin user) and then use this (assume xxx is first user with problematic Library and yyy is second admin type user and that the temporary Library restore folder is located in ~/xxx/templibraryfolder)
         cd ~/xxx
         sudo mv Library Library-xxx
         sudo ditto templibraryfolder ~/xxx/Library
    sudo will prompt for password
then logout of yyy account/user and login as original xxx account/user
or even better would be to use Time Machine to restore the ~/xxx/Library folder while logged in as the yyy user (after renaming the ~/xxx/Library folder to ~/xxx/Library-xxx
Then logout from yyy and login as xxx and if everything looks ok, remove the ~/Library-xxx folder as they can be quite large (will need to do
         sudo rm -rf ~/xxx/Library
Don't do the above until you know things are working fine - so wait a while till you use all apps (or a lot of them especially licensed software like Adobe or other difficult to install apps)
~ is just a shortcut for the current users home folder -- e.g. if you logged in as Tom it would be /Users/Tom
Is that clear?? - don't proceed if you have any questions -- you're about to make a change that if not done correctly will cause lots of problems, so type carefully and have fun...and pat yourself on the back for making backups!!

  • Computer can't find DVD/CD-ROM drives after installing iTunes

After installing iTunes, my computer no longer can detect my DVD-ROM and CD-RW drives. They've disappeared from the "My Computer" window.
I ran "System Restore" and the disc drives showed up, but now they're undetected once again after I re-installed iTunes. I've restarted, I've uninstalled and then reinstalled iTunes, I've run the built-in diagnostic self-checks on the drives, I downloaded updated drivers, I uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, spent 1 hour on the phone with Apple support, and finally spent 2 hours on the phone with Dell Support. Nothing. Please help--I want to be able to use my iPod with Windows.

Hey there. May I interject? Anyone mind?
For the most part, what's occurring is one of two things. Either...
    A) an application (such as Roxio, Nero, iTunes, etc.) is installing a driver file (as a .SYS) or replacing a working driver file that is referenced within your registry. For some folks, the replaced driver is still referenced by either an UpperFilterCheck or a LowerFilterCheck, and the device manager is actually seeking out that file that, well... no longer exists. Or, when you try and uninstall the application (iTunes is the frequent transgressor) everything is removed, including the related driver files, but the registry isn't altered... so the device manager continues to try and locate that driver file... which no longer exists.
    or
    B) a virus (or trojan) burrows its way into your file structure, and creates an element of itself disguised as a .SYS file. We've seen this happen before with viral elements disguising themselves as audio or video card driver files, in the efforts of masking themselves from lower-class anti-virus programs (or un-updated ones). In this case, they take on the name of a driver file that the optical drives are "familiar" with, and so, with the intention of being "fast, friendly, and efficient", the optical drives are tapped to utilize this new "driver" file... and it gets referenced in the registry as such.
However, when your anti-virus actually snaps to it, and removes the virus / trojan, and you go off on a virus-killing mission, galavanting through the registry and cleaning the little buggers out in Safe Mode and everything... you might remove the viral elements... but... the reference to them might still remain. The device manager is still looking for that "driver file", and will cause the optical drives to lock up in a Code 39 or Code 41 because of it.
Either way, the thing to do to reclaim your optical drives is located in your registry here:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE1 0318}
You'll want to have that open, and a mini-window of the following:
START -> CONTROL PANEL -> SYSTEM -> Hardware (tab) -> DEVICE MANAGER -> Offending Drive (with yellow tag by it) Right-Mouse-Click and PROPERTIES -> Driver (tab) -> DRIVER DETAILS
Notice that list. It references all the drivers that that particular drive is utilizing. There should be a single .DLL (dynamic link library) file and multiple .SYS files. It's the .SYS files we're focusing on, and they should be located in your C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\ folder stem. If you want to open a new window explorer, and go verify that each of those driver files still exists in that folder stem, you may.
At this point, compare the Driver File Detail list with the Registry Tree Location you're sitting in, and look at the UpperFilterCheck and LowerFilterCheck key values. Your offending key value will NOT be on your Driver File Detail list!!! It might be as small as "PFC" or something else, but that value is referencing to a driver file that no longer exists. Delete that offending key value. Close the registry.
Close the Driver File Details and Drive Properties windows. At this point, to finish this up, you need to Soft Uninstall (Right-mouse-click on the drive, and hit "Uninstall" ) the drive(s), let the Device Manager refresh... then hit ACTION -> Scan For Hardware Changes ...
This should start a new Found New Hardware cycle, and.... poof!... your drives should be back to normal
I don't know if this will help, I think it should.
Good Luck. Post back if you have a problem.

  • IPhone is no more visibile in My Computer after installing iTunes 8

Hi all, after installing iTunes 8, iPhone isn't visible anymore in my Computer section in Windows. Previously, when I connected it, it was recognized as a photocamera and, from my Computer, i could access to it to see the photos that are stored on the iPhone.
Now, instead, iPhone isn't displayed anymore: except for this, it works correctly; iTunes 8 recognizes it and synchronizes it.
Notice: after the iTunes upgrade, when I've connected the iPhone for the first time, Windows says that he has found a new hardware and installed a new driver for an Apple Mobile Device USB.
Has someone else experienced my problem? Thanks in advance!

i have no pics downloaded from emails (as i researched this before)
the other night had same problem, had to restore phone, and re-install itunes..then no problem...but tonite trying to add new music and same thing again.
disabled iphone under imaging devices, and its only listed under usb controllers...computer recognizes it every time
there has to be a better way than restoring/reinstalling everytime?..has to be some little catch?

  • After installing itunes Windows 7 doesnt boot and stalls while loading atipcie.sys driver

After installing itunes my computer stalls when loading atipcie.sys driver. Computer will not boot up in safe mode or Last known good. Only resolution was to perform System Restore to a time before itunes was installed, thus deleting the itunes installation
Anyone know of a fix or workaround for this issue ?

    Windows 7 64 bit core i7
BSOD while updating to iTunes 10 with suspended installation of Apple Mobile Device Support. Network drivers no longer working as a result. Attempted fix by downloading from a different machine and competing install via files transferred over on flash drive. No dice. Attempted removal of iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Application Support, Apple Software Update to see if this would fix. Followed this up with a restart. This seems to have improved matters as system is starting up faster. No dice. Try reinstall network drivers from Sony ViaoCare disk. Installed and restarted. No dice. Next, try Widows 7 Network and Sharing diagnostics. No dice. Next try manual removal & reinstall of network driver using Device Manager, restart. Can't seem to re-install Network Controller. Still trying to solve this.

  • I am not able to add video files to my itunes after installing itunes 10.7

I am not able to add video files to my itunes after installing itunes 10.7.0.21

I Have been using, Ipad for only around a month or so (Ipad 2), and it was only yesterday that i tried to use the Itunes. I first downloaded the latest itunes (10.7.0.21), and took backup of all my Ipad data.
After this, I wanted to add some video to my ipad, as it was essential to add the same to My itunes first, I roceeded to do just that. I went through this command {File - Add File to Library}, and then went on to select the Video file. There's just a flicker, and then nothing happens at all - the itune screen remains, and there is no error message too. Whereas, I can easily add Audio Files.
After this, I even downaload the latest Quick time (7.7.2), as I had read somewhere that the same is necessary. When I tried to open the Video file in Quick time, it did not open. After that I downloaded the codec DivX and DivX player. Though the Video plays in DivX, it refuses to open in Itune and does not play properly in Quicktime (slider moves, but sound and video is not there).
    Frankly, I am utterly confused.
    Regards, Shekhar

  • Windows 7 BSOD randomly occuring after installing iTunes 10.6 with iPhone 4 in dock

After installing iTunes 10.6 and IOS 5.1 on my iPhone 4, Windows 7 computer was randomly blue screening with the iPhone 4 in the attached dock. After removing the phone from the dock, system works fine.

Re-installed iTunes as you suggested and it worked.  However, started experiencing random BSOD's.  Disk check found a number of file errors on the boot drive - which it fixed.  It then took a number of re-boots before computer became stable.
Then, upgraded iTunes on a HP workstation (no iPhone attached).  On reboot windows had to attempt a boot repair 3 times before it would reboot.  Couldn't even do a disk check without first reverting to the last restore point.  It also corrupted Norton.  The end result was 2.5 hours of wasted time.
Being an expert pc user, I can safely say that I believe Apple has some serious issues with 10.6.

I noticed that they have something to do with Crash Reporter, but are they a crash, or some command to the file during the install of the update? Any insight from someone who understands the terminal commands would be appreciated.

The Safe Mode startup key combo is the same; Startup key combinations for Intel-based Macs, it just isn't working for you.
I suggest starting from the Install DVD that came with your iMac. Once in the Installer you will find tools in the Utilties menu. Using the Disk Utility try repairing the startup volume.

After installing iTunes Match I have lost most of my songs and albums help?

iTunes Match on the computer will not change the library content.  The iTunes Match 3 step process must complete on the computer based library before being associated with any IOS devices.
It is always important to make a secure backup of your Song files prior to these activities.

  • "Holiday" Section in Radio Streaming Disappears after Installing iTunes 9

Yup, as the topic suggests, after installing iTunes 9 on my Macbook 13' just recently, I realised that my favourite radio stream, 'Holiday' in iTunes has mysteriously disappeared. Is there anyone who has experienced a similar incident as I have? Does anyone know of any way for me to place this Holiday section back?
    Thanks in advance.

Is this the station you seek?
    http://www.live365.com/stations/winterscapes
Remember, all the stations shown in iTunes' Radio section are just feeds from other streaming audio sites. Apple does not host or create any of these feeds and the offered stations change frequently - especially as part of an iTunes upgrade. Many of the iTunes offerings are actually Live365 stations.
If you get the station to start in iTunes from that link, that creates a 'Music' entry in your iTunes library that you can reuse. It will eventually stop working and you'll need to revisit the Live365 site to get a 'fresh' version of the station.
If the link opens and plays through a web based player window you'll have to edit your playback preferences through the Live365.com site to use an external MP3 player which will then redirect it iTunes. Definitely more of a hassle, but it will work.

  • Re: Satellite P - CD/DVD drive has been disabled after installing itunes 8

*Help*! After installing itunes 8 my CD/DVD/RW has been disabled.
This has happened before and I have restored it by deleting the upper and lower filters in the Vista registry but then itunes tells me that "The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing." and I am unable to burn anything from itunes.
Does anyone out there know how to restore the CD/DVD/RW drive and retain the full use of itunes please?

Have you tried to reinstall iTunes?
Reinstall the old iTunes, reboot the computer and clean by using CCleaner. Then you can install the newest version of iTunes.
If it doesnt work try to remove the upper- and lower filters again. Maybe you should do this after you have reinstalled iTunes.
