Restoring MAC address to the default

If I do a ifconfig [device] hw ether [mac address], how can I later revert the settings back to the default MAC address without knowing it?

My, er, "trick" is to unload and reload the modules for the NIC
Edit: You could also use macchanger to force the NIC to use a specific MAC. So, if you want to go back the original one, then force it to it.

  • Can I have my new iCloud email address be the default instead of my Apple ID?

My apple ID is based on an old @mac.com account that no longer works. My new iCloud account has given me a new @me.com account but I can't use it as the default and all email going out from iPhone apps, i.e.: news articles, etc., is being sent from the @mac.com account and bouncing from the server. I can switch the "from"line so that it goes through the working account, but I have to do it every time I send something. Is there a way to permanently set the new @me.com address as the default or do I need to open a new iCloud account?

Thanks for your answer, but perhaps I didn't make myself clear. What I would like to do is change my default email address for iCloud from the old @mac.com address that does not work anymore to the new @me.com that Apple has issued me, or even a gmail account. Why does the iCloud account have to be linked to an email address that no longer works?

anyone know of a way to recover the default one? or if i can obtain a new one from MSI?

I do not understand how you lost the address.......but the mac address for the onboard nic is printed on a white sticker and the sticker is placed on the bottom side of the ACR slot......The only way to see it is to take the board out of the  case, or to use a mirror to see it.

  • Mac OS no longer available after trying to remove Windows on Bootcamp. How can I restore Mac OS without the Mac HDD in options?

Mac OS no longer available after trying to remove Windows on Bootcamp. How can I restore Mac OS without the Mac HDD in options?
So what I did was, I had bought my iMac from a shop and asked them to do bootcamp for me. However, they installed 32 bit instead of 64. My fault, I did not make my self clear about it. So after it has been delivered to my house, I realized that I wanted the 64 bit. I tried to remove windows on bootcamp but honestly, I have not experienced this before. So I failed. I believe, I did something wrong.
So I opened the iMac and it keeps asking me to go to windows. Windows OS also corrupted.
I tried the Option Key but the only option is Windows 7 only. So using a different keyboard, I press option and it only shows Windows HDD and the Mac HDD has gone.
What am I going to do? How can I restore Mac OS without the HDD anymore?

    Hi Bruce,
Out from what I can find on this network card is it not possible to get the mac address without a OS. I would recommend you to get/burn a Linux/Ubuntu live CD/DVD and run a Ifconfig in there.
    Hope it helps you.

I have just bought a Humax 7500T PVR and a Humax W-Lan dongle to connect to my Airport Extreme.
I have put the mac address into the AE. The installation screen on my TV is picking up the network name but once appied it won't connect to the internet.
I've a few other things connected to the AE such as computers, ipad, itouch, etc, and have never had a problem connecting these once I've entered the mac address into the AE. Can anyone help me with this please?

have you made sure that the network setting in the system preferences is set up to use dhcp? if not i would try changing it so that it shows that it is getting its address by dhcp

  • Getting the MAC address of the iPhone

    Hi,
In order for an iPhone (or any other network device) to access or wi-fi network, it needs to be registered. I would like to make it so that they don't have to register it every time and to do that, I need the MAC address of the device. Users will be registering via a webpage using the browser on the phone. Is there any way in the midst of that process that I can query the iPhone for it's Mac address?
    Thanks,
    Rob Tanner

You can get the MAC address for your iPhone at Settings > General > About > Wi-Fi address.
There is not a way to query the iPhone for the MAC address to be entered automatically in the space provided when registering the iPhone's MAC address via the webpage, but it can be written down in advance for manual entry of the address.

  • E4200 v2 - Uses multiple MAC addresses for the same device

This unit seems pretty good at first but on looking at the Web interface I noticed that it was using multiple mac addresses for the same device and showing devices on the lan on the Wireless side and other odd things.
After a week of running it the home server network started to get erratic, it would seem to all point to dns and dhcp issues in the router.
Seems the V1 had the same issues that they did not fix on this.
The Cisco connect software shows 5 devices the Web based utility shows 3??.
Its pretty bad that they charge nearly $200 and cannot be bothered to finish the unit or address the issues that were in V1.

I am afraid I didn't get the clear picture of the issue mentioned in the post. Could you please elaborate a little bit? If you connect a device/computer wired and then later you connect it wirelessly. It is obvious that you would get to see two different MAC addresses for the same device, one for the LAN adaptor and other one for WLAN adaptor. If that is what you are referring to?
Secondly, may I  know, what issues did you face with DNS and DHCP in the router? Is it not able to resolve the DNS or something else or DHCP is not sending IP address to the clients?

  • How do I find the MAC address for the time capsule?

I am trying to install 2T time capsule as my main router. Telus my internet supplier allows me to in install the MAC address for the static ip that I am going to use. But where is the MAC address on the cube or how do I get it?

On the bottom label it should list the MAC address.
If you happen to still run the original.. ie decent airport utility it has all that info right in front of you.
But you see that was before Apple reduced the airport utility to the status of a toy..
Pretty pictures no info.. think kid's book.
See very very pretty.. as a UTILITY though.. useless.

  • MAC address and the CAM entries on the Layer 3 FWSM(Transparent mode)

    Hi,
With refrence of Cisco Secure Firewall Services Module (FWSM) of Cisco Press book it's mentioned that
"While configuring the transparent mode in FWSM, it is important to specify the MAC address and the CAM entries on the Layer 3 next hop device of FWSM."
This part of configuration is not very much clear to me please let me know the logic of this things
    The following are two examples:
Layer 3 Device A (PFC) at the Outside Security Domain
! IP address of the next hop for the outside security domain
    interface Vlan20
    mac-address 0000.0000.0001
    ip address 10.10.1.1 255.255.255.0
! Specify the IP address and MAC address at the first hop layer 3 interface
! of the inside security domain
    arp 10.10.1.21 0000.0000.0001 ARPA
Layer 3 Device B at the Inside Security Domain
! IP address of the next hop for the inside security domain
    interface Vlan21
    mac-address 0000.0000.0021
    ip address 10.10.1.21 255.255.255.0
! Specify the IP address and MAC address defined at the first hop interface
! of the outside security domain
    arp 10.10.1.21 0000.0000.0002 ARPA
    Regards
    Chris

Check the serial # reported by Sys Info against the serial # printed on the bottom of the case. I bet they are not the same. The service center did not change the serial # on that new Logic board to match the REAL serial number of your Mac.
So when you try to go to the MAS it looks like a completely different Mac which is not registered under your Apple ID.
If the above is true, the serials being different, then you need to take it back and have that changed to your REAL serial number.

  • MAC address access control default?

I'm still using old graphite ABS, and all of them
are using MAC address access control.
Just by accident I connected a PB G4 with an
    internal extreme Airport card.
The MAC address of this AirPort card wasn't in the
    access list of the ABS.
It looks like ABS does only limit access through
MAC addresses for 802.11b cards. I'll spend some time
    to double check this behaviour.
Did anyone already see this default of access
    control?

I'm pretty well aware of the limitations of any kind of
MAC address control: in an hostile environment its a
"straw house" or an "empty extinguisher".
But in a collaborative and friendly environment I thought
it may be a useful "frontier marker" between "friendly" and
    clearly "hostile" behaviors.
    This belief was foolish.

  • Block internet access by MAC address all the time

I want to be able to block MAC addresses from accessing the internet but allow them to use the network.
I can do this in other router interfaces but the BT Home Hub 2.0 has a VERY un user friendly interface and will not allow advanced internet access or other settings to be modifyed to suit my needs.
I am at an intermediate level at understanding network equipment and an expert at residential networking.

Not sure about the home hub 2, but on the home hub 1 you can use a "user defined" firewall setting to block access to a computer by specifying its IP address.
    Source LAN
Interface 192.168.1.xxx  (address you wish to block)
    Destination WAN
    Service ANY
    Action Deny
You can tell the home hub to always use this IP address for the device you are trying to block.
There is probably a similar setting on the home hub 2.
By default I block all Internet access for devices, then I have rules to allow HTTP, HTTPS, POP3 and a couple of others.
    I also have UpnP disabled.
This prevents any computer on the network accessing any non-standard ports.

  • How can I retrieve the IP address of the default printer from the windows registry

I am using LabVIEW 7 on windows NT4 computers.
I have a SubVI that I use to ping the network printer to make sure that the printer is on line prior to sending a print at the end of testing a unit.
If LabVIEW does not get a reply to its ping data is saved locally and the user informed.
I would like to modify the VI that pings the printer to ping the default printer of the computer on which the VI is running.
I would be grateful if anyone can show me how to retrieve the default printers IP address.

    Hi Stuart,
The registry entries for User's Default Printer are:
    Win 9x:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Windows]
    NT/XP:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
    "Device"="Printer Name"
The device is the name used to represent the printer in the registry. The name can be found in the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Settings] key.
Machine name is part of the "Printer Name," which you can use to ping directly (i.e., w/out having to look-up its IP address).
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Khalid

  • When I open a new tab I no longer get the search bar with all of my recent pages, how do I restore this back to the default?

I was on demonoid and I accidentally installed some software that I didnt want to. Once this happened I noticed that on both of my browsers firefox and chrome that this search site named trovi.com has taken over as my homepage and over my new tab. I fixed the problem on chrome and I fixed the home page problem on Firefox, what I cant figure out is how to get rid of this bane when I open a new tab. All I have all of my useful sites pinned there and it is very annoying.
I have been searching through all the options and cannot find a way to change this back to default without restoring the entire browser back to default. Which I really dont want to do. Thanks in advance
