Restoring mail if its been in the trash can

Hello there,
I gotten an important mail piece in my mail box but I deleted it by mistake. When I went to go and look for it ... it wasn't there no more. Now my question comes to you to see if you can restore mail piece after its been lost or not?

On the Mac without an account named Trash mailbox for the POP account under Trash in the Mailboxes drawer, is "Move deleted messages to a separate folder" selected under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for the account preferences?
If so, the account's Trash mailbox is located in the account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) at Home > Library > Mail > this POP account named folder > Deleted Messages.mbox folder.
Not at Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes.
The Deleted Messages.mbox folder within the Mailboxes folder represents the "On My Mac" named Trash mailbox under Trash in the mailboxes drawer.

  • Is you mail app crashing when using the trash can delete??

Is anyone having a problem with mail app. crashing after using the trash can delete. I am no longer using the trash can so I have not had another mail crash. Swipe and delete and edit and delete work ok. Only the trash can delete causes the problem.

Alberta....I first tried the reset, which didn't work, so I had to do a full restore. Which helped has corrected the problem. I just can use the trash can delete.

  • Deleted mail does not appear in the trash can

When I delete mail from my inbox I can't see it on the Trash "On My Mac". I have set the trash settings to delete everything after one week. Does anyone know why this is happening or how I might be able to fix it.
    Thanks

  • I deleted the trash can in Mail. So how do I get it back?

I deleted the trash can in Mail. So how do I get it back? Don't know how it happened, don't ask, ha ha ha
    Thanks

Move deleted messages to a separate folder unchecked
Well, that’s the reason you don’t have a Trash can now. Deleted messages are being left in their mailbox instead of moved to the Trash, so there is no need for a Trash.
Before turning that setting back ON, you may want do do View > Show Deleted Messages, in case there is any deleted message that you want to undelete -- turning the setting back ON will cause those messages to be permanently erased.
BTW, why does your profile say Mac OS X 10.3.9 in some of your posts and Mac OS X 10.4.8 in others?

  • What is this "cube" icon in Outlook Mail in place of the trash can delete icon.

What is this "cube" icon in Outlook Mail in place of the trash can delete icon.

Is it a gmail account ? If so then you've probably got archiving enabled on the account in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars - in which case you should be able to change it back to a trashcan : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4207

That was good advice by G-N and s/he is correct about it. Unfortunately, ASC allows only 2 "helpful" and 1 "correct" marks per thread.

Yet another example of why it's a VERY BAD IDEA to do a clean install of Lion unless you are already VERY familiar with how to tweak the Mac OS. There's a reason Apple engineers removed it as an option. To accomplish it you have to erase your disk; not for the faint hearted.
Do you have a backup? PLEASE don't tell us you did this without a robust backup.
You erased the operating machine, so your computer went to the only place it could find one, the Recovery partition. And it's minimal, so it has to download everything in small chunks to reinstall itself. So yeah, it could take 10 hours.
Here's another option. Do you still have the original disks that came with your machine? Put one in and restart from it. You can reinstall your old system much faster. Then go to the Mac App Store and your purchase history and see if you can redownload Lion (I think that still works).
And this time just do yourself a favor and install per Apple's instructions. When the machine starts into Lion, use Setup ***'t (the first thing that fires up) to migrate from your backup.

  • Having problem deleting all but one particular mail from the iPhone 4S mail inbox. I can delete mail either by the trash can or using edit, selecting the mail message and deleting.  However there is this one mail message that will not go away. Any ideas?

I am having a problem deleting all but one particular mail message from my inbox. I delete by either using the trash can icon for individual mail, or using edit, selecting the mail message (s) and clicking delete.  However there is this one mail message that will not go away regardles of what I do including deleting all from the trash.  Any ideas?

I get that every once in a while on my 3GS, and that's what I do to get rid of it. Probably not a bad idea to power down the phone every so often, anyway, gets rid of any crud waiting to cause a bug.
Glad to hear that it worked for you.

  • How to make my mail go into the trash when I select the trash can icon

Nonsensically the default behavior for mail from google (setup either as push or fetch) is for the trash can icon to archive the mail (drop it into all mail) rather trash it. I was able to correct this behavior for the fetch mail account but for the mail setup as push I see no option. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
What kind of drugs were the designers on where they thought I would like to either archive all my junk mail or better yet have to login from my desktop and re-review it and then delete it again. That sounds GREAT for productivity! ***?

This is definitely an apple problem and not a google issue as plainly demonstrated by the fact that there is a setting located at:
settings -> mail, contacts, calenders -> "account name" -> Advanced -> Deleted Mailbox
It defaults to "all mail" but you can correct it to "Trash"
The option simply isn't there for accounts setup as push. I am absolutely dumbfounded by this. How can they not fix such a simple yet ridiculous problem? There is no functionality to delete mail from my iphone.
An option that's there when the account is IMAP but not there when the account is Exchange, and somehow that must be the iPhone's fault? When creating a calendar event for a 'local' calendar on the iPhone, I can set two alerts, but when I create a calendar event for an Exchange calendar, I don't have that option and am limited to just one. You might think that's plainly an Apple problem, but you'd be wrong since Exchange calendar events don't support multiple alerts.
Point is, this is more likely a Google issue than an Apple one. Note that Google Sync and Gmail push email are beta products. There are a whole bunch of known issues that pertain to Google Sync and different mobile devices.
But, you cam blame it on Apple if it makes you feel better...

  • How do you open the trash can in iMovie 4.0?

    2-17-07
How do you open the trash can in iMovie 4 to retrieve files?
    thanks,
    gil

    Gil:
Read this from imovie Guru, Karl Petersen:
"All may not be lost. A couple of things to keep in mind:
    A. Don't forget that iMovie uses non-destructive editing, so the source file of a clip is never shortened. (The source file for each clip is stored in the Media folder of the project. Each scene imported from the camera arrives with its own Media file. Source files can support one clip or many.)
If you split Clip A into two clips, then discard one of the clips and empty the trash, the original Media file is NOT discarded. The Media file itself is discarded ONLY if you discard the last clip that uses that source file. (In the past, iMovie would remove a portion of the Media file, shortening the file. iMovie HD NEVER shortens a Media file.)
So the lost video may still be there, just not be represented by a clip. To retrieve the video of a split clip, select the clip and choose Advanced > Restore Clip to Original. That returns it to its original length. (Or better still, Option-drag the clip to some other place on the timeline to make a copy of it, then Restore the copy.)
Emptying the trash does two things: 1) discards the CLIPS we've trashed -- clips perhaps created by splitting Clip A, and 2) sometimes it discards the source files for those clips. But #2 occurs only when no other project clip references that Media file. So long as any clip in the project relies on a Media file the file is not discarded. That means any clip that uses that source file can be restored to the file's original length and content.
So the stuff you lost may be gone. Or not.
    B. A backup copy of the project file exists inside the project package. It is a copy of the project file as it was BEFORE you last saved. If you've saved the project just once, it may help.
I suggest making a copy of the project and working on the copy. To make a copy, select the project in the Finder and choose Edit > Copy "your file name goes here".
To look inside the package, Control-click on the project icon and choose "Show Package Contents" from the popUp menu. You'll see several project files inside the package, one with a tilde (~) in its name. That's the backup. Double-click on it to open the project. The discarded clips may appear, or they may be gone. (This will NOT recover any Media files that have been discarded.)
If the backup project looks usable, quit iMovie without saving, move the current project file outside the package, change the name of the backup project file to match the current project file, open the project and save.
    Karl"
