    Hi cfgolf,
Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities. I agree with your assessment that something is going on with that previous backup. If you restored from that backup and the issue continues, I would recommend restoring and Set up as new. Before you restore, make sure you Transfer content so that you can sync it back after setting up as new. The instructions on how to Transfer content and Set up as new are both listed in this article.
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4137
    2. Transfer content
Before you erase your device, take a few minutes to transfer your content from your device to your computer to ensure that all your critical data is safe.
    6. Set up as new
Complete the setup assistant. When prompted to set up your device, select Set Up as New iPhone and tap Next to continue.
Skip the Apple ID sign-in, in case the original issue was related to any of your content on iCloud.
Note: After setting up as new, you will need to enter the Visual Voicemail password for iPhone (on carriers that support Visual Voicemail). If you've forgotten the password, contact your carrier to help you reset it.
After erasing and setting up as a new device, your device is now in a factory configuration. Test to determine if erasing and setting up as a new device resolved the issue. Content on the device may have caused unexpected behavior.
If the issue is still present, you may want to contact Apple Support.
If the issue is now resolved, sync one type of content at a time back to the device. For example, if you had an issue playing music, add songs from iTunes and confirm they will play. If your contacts weren't loading successfully, add the contacts back. After each sync, test to see if the issue has returned.
    Cheers,
    -Joe

  • Restore photos to camera roll with fresh install?

I was trying to free up memory by compressing videos (using Shrinker app on the iPhone) and deleting the originals, but deleting videos wasn't reducing the memory used by Photos & Camera (as viewed by Settings-->General-->Manage Storage). I had backed up in iTunes and manually copied the contents of the iPhone via Windows Explorer in Windows7 (Computer\myname's iPhone\Internal Storage\DCIM). From looking at the DCIM folder I could see that I had reduced the Photos & Videos from around 6 GB to under 3GB, but the iPhone & iTunes were still showing the Photos & Videos at around 6GB. I tried restoring from backup in iTunes, but that didn't fix the problem. So then I decided to restore the iphone and start from scratch.
My question: is there a way to add my backed-up photos&videos to the camera roll, vs. syncing them? If I sync them from a folder on my computer, iOS treats them differently and I can't edit or delete them from the iPhone. Or do I need to just restore back to my original state and try to solve the original problem? Thanks!

I tried to sync them back via iTunes but they are then not saved in Camera Roll, which was my initial question...but anyway, thanks for the reply.
Pictures are never imported to Camera Roll.  Camera Roll is only for temporary storage of pictures taken with the device.
Once the pictures have been copied off the device they can be synced back via iTunes but they will never appear in Camera Roll, they appear in folders instead.

  • IPad won't restore photos in camera roll while restoring from iCloud

    Hello Apple community,
I reseted my iPad after iOS 8.1.2 update and now i'm restoring from a backup, I got my contacts, apps... restored exept my photos, only 5 photos were restored, I can see downloading, my ipad is stuck on this since yesterday.
Please help me and thank you in advance

Actually I posted here only after trying ezjules suggestions  No luck.  Even stranger is that even after I "stopped restoring" my camera roll is acting the same,; still says Downloading at the bottom. Strange.. Here is a screen shot after I have stopped the restore in settings.

  • Is there anyway of restoring a deleted camera roll?

I was trying to update my phone via Itunes and it has deleted all my camera roll including pictures, videos etc.
For some reason, the restore point is after I did the update, meaning on doing this, everything is still gone.
It has saved 18 photos in my photo stream though, plus contacts etc, so surely they must be somewhere.
I saw the storage was correct on the bottom bar when my iPhone was plugged in and thought pressing sync would put it back on to the phone, but that didnt work, instead just synced the new memory and I now can't revert back to find that sync which should have everything.
Is there anyone out there who can help, and would there be a sync saved on to my computer somewhere?
Or, is there a reliable software download that can find them for me, as its got some stuff on that I really didnt want to lose.
Or finally, is there a number to ring Apple on that you don't have to pay £25 first to talk to anyone?
Thanks in advance for any help of any sort.
    Mike

if you backup to computer you can restore it by connecting to the computer using usb and using itunes on the computer to restore the device with the backup from the computer
if you backup to icloud you can restore from there
    otherwise no

  • My iphone has currently been restored but my camera roll is not showing up in my photo application as well as my iphone 4 is reading as a iphone 3

my phone has been not loading uplately taking longer to open apps and also force closing them as well but my main consern is that my camera app and my photo app seem to be out of sync the pictures i take on my caera app do not show up in my carea roll on my photo app

I think you're referring to the import wizard that pops up when you connect any camera to the PC, correct?  Yes, it does have it and normally that pops up but it doesn't anymore.  I've gone into the control panel and set it so that it asks me everytime what I want to do everything it's connected but that didn't help.  I just noticed that when I go into device manager that there's a yellow exclamation mark next to the iphone so I'm assuming that has something to do with the issue but I'm not sure how to resolve it.

  • Why are my photos in my camera roll missing after updating to iOS5.1.1?

I just updated my iPhone 4s to the newest iOS5.1.1 to my horror, my photos in my camera roll are all missing.
I backed up and everything before updating but my photos are gone.
I've rebooted it, restored it several times but it won't work.
My lockscreen and homescreen wallpapers are saved in my camera roll previously and they're still present.
    Why?
    HELP ME PLEASE, SOMEONE?

Your pics are very likely gone.
You should be importing all pics taken with iphone to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera. especially before any update/restore/etc.
    Camera Roll is temporary storage.

  • I have a 5th Gen iPod Touch. I went in my messages to save a video in my camera roll. The video is not in my camera roll but my memory keeps on going down and I don not want to restore my iPod. Please help me

I have a 5th Gen iPod Touch. I went in iMessage to save videos that were sent to me in my camera roll. The videos do not appear in my camera roll but my memory keeps on going down. I do not know how to solve the problem. I do not want to restore my iPod but I want to get my memory back. Please Help ME

Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.
An "other" larger tha about 1 1/2 usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.
    First try:
"First you go settings/general/usage/music/then left swipe over music and press delete and you would think it deletes your music but it doesn't instead it deletes your other but make sure your ipod is connected to a computer while doing this"
    as recommended by:
How do I get rid of "other" storage: Apple Support Communities
Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
To restore to factory settings/new iPod see:

  • I have restored my new replacement iPhone 5s from my latest iCloud back up. However my camera roll pictures are not displaying. Its not saying i don't have any pictures, it just shows empty white squares? How do I get my pictures back? Thanks!

I have restored my new replacement iPhone from my latest iCloud back up. However my camera roll pictures are not displaying. Its not saying I don't have any pictures in my camera roll, it has all the spaces for them, but it just shows empty white squares? How do I get my pictures back? Thanks!

It's difficult to say whether it's stuck or not as the time to restore a backup can depend on many factors.  You'll have to decide when you think it's just not continuing.  You could try turning the phone off (hold the power button until you see the red off slider, then slide to turn off), then back on to see if that would get it going again.
When you're convinced it's just hung, you can go back to settings and tap Stop Restoring iPhone to stop the restore.  You'll then have to try restoring it again (Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup).  Be sure it's connected to your charger and wifi while it's restoring the backup.
You might also try the approach posted here by ezjules: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19518589#19518589.  This seems to have worked for some people who had trouble restoring their photos from an iCloud backup.

  • I created an Imovie on Ipad. Before exporting the Imovie, I deleted the video clips from camera roll. Error message "this proj. contains clips which have been deleted from your photo library." Help!  Can I recover the "preview" file of my video in Imovie?

Is there an app out there to find the files within Imovie app on my Ipad where the Imovie "preview" is playing from?
I deleted the original vidoe clips from my Camera Roll before exporting the Imovie to Youtube because my camera roll was out of memory.
I'm using the latest Imovie app for Ipad.

  • My iPhone 4 is unable to upload photos from the camera roll onto facebook. Keep getting the message "unable to upload now"

My iPhone 4 is unable to upload photos from the camera roll onto facebook. I keep getting the message "unable to upload now, try later"

I suffer same.  AppleCare can't seem to solve the problem.  I did a restore from backup. Then I did a restore as new phone (virgin). Then I did a restore as a new device and then backed up from a stored backup (which does not replace media).  To no avail.  Some days it works fine, and on others it's extremely bothersome. The major symptoms:
    1. It can take 5+ seconds to delete a photo.
    2. It can take 10+ seconds for the camera app to activate. In many instances, the moment is long gone.
    3. Switching from camera to video can take 5+ seconds.
    4. Saving a photo that's been optimized in iOS 5 can take 30 seconds. Absurd.
Note that Photos and Camera aren't the only affected applications. What'sApp can have the same issues on occasion. Voice Memos don't respond like they should, either.  I suspect that there's some behind-the-scenes operations with network feed to which iOS gives its full attention (contrary to the UX getting full attention is is historically the case). This makes the user interface painfully slow at times — and, as most of us here would agree — painfully annoying.  This might have to do with changes designed around iCloud, but I'm not even (yet) using it.
The bottom line is that what used to be a quick, pretty good phone camera is now totally lackluster and unreliable for fast shots.  Sometimes I think Apple spends too much time worrying about form and not enough about function.

  • Restoring camera roll photos

I've lost my camera roll pictures on my iphone. Not sure what happened to them; can I restore them from a file on my laptop from my last backup? If so, how do I do that?

    Ummmmm, what?
If the pictures were in camera roll, the only way to retrieve them would be to restore the backup.
If they are in photo stream, they should simply sync back once the device is signed into the same iCloud account.
Keep in mind, iDevices are not intended as sole storage of pictures.

  • Lost photos / camera roll after restore and update.

As the title says , I recently had to restore my iphone 3gs due to having problems with MAIL (problem fixed now.) but after doing a full backup and restore on the phone and update to the iOS 4 ( i think>) , I lost all of the photos that I had in the camera roll album folder , now I have loads of photos there that I do not want to loose ! I know there should be a way of getting them back from the backup but how ? Plus to prove even more that they are still there somwhere , when I connect it to the iTunes on my PC (Windows Vista) , under the yellow section bar it shows there are 315 (1.26 gb) photos on my device...but when I disconnect it and go into the album , there are 0 ! Now I have been reading about this online and people say that you basically take the images off your pc and sync them back onto the phone...but I havent got them saved on my pc anywhere...so where are they? PLEASE HELP me out on this one ,
    thank you in advance.

The only place they may be is in a previous backup from before the restore. No Apple tool that I know of accesses these files within the backup file. There are reportedly some 3rd party tools that can get to the photos imbeded in the backup. The other option is to restore the old backup and then import the camera roll via iphoto or some other tool.
If you have no copy of the old backup, I think you are out of luck.
As you know by now, the iPhone's camera roll is treated as a digital camera, not as part of the sync.
For the second post, if you'd like Apple to add the import to the sync process, you can request that via the www.apple.com/feedback web site.
    Thanks.
