Restoring MPBR with Mountain Lion instead of Lion

Help i'm trying to restore my MBPR 15" and when I go to the restore panel on startup it only restores to regular Lion not Mountain Lion. The Macbook came with Mountain Lion and i'm not selling it. I just want a fresh copy of Mountain Lion and I really would not like to buy it off the App Store.
Thanks

Did you ever register the computer with Apple? Register Your Apple Product and Your Support Profile for Registered Purchases.
I'm really not sure what you are doing, but here's the correct process if you have a Recovery HD:
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
  1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
  2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
  3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
  4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Mac Pro with Snow Leopard instead of Lion?

Planning to replace an aging G5 with new Mac Pro. The machine's primary usage is editing in FCP (not FCP X). Most projects are long form and I'm in the middle of one right now that will be in post for the remainder of the year. Can I get the new Mac Pro with Snow Leopard (running 10.6.8 currently) instead of Lion to avoid potential issues moving the project over?

Not if you buy it new. All of them come with Lion. However, the current Mac Pro's originally shipped with Snow Leopard, and while it's not entirely clear, it may be possible to install Snow Leopard on a new Mac Pro. There are a number of threads here discussing that but the Cliff's Notes version is that the 2010 Mac Pro requires at least 10.6.4, and the last retail version is 10.6.3 so the retail installer won't work. If you can't get Apple to send you the Snow Leopard installer that once shipped with the Mac Pro, posters have said you can't use 10.6.4+ installers specific to another recent Macs to do the job. However, there is a discussion here http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20120123175902871 which explains how that can be made to work. I haven't tried it (I got my Mac Pro while it was still shipping with SL), I don't know if it would actually work, and I don't know if it's even legal, but there it is.

  • Why did my brand new macbook pro come with Snow Leopard instead of Lion?

I JUST bought a brand new Macbook Pro assuming that it would come with Lion, but it didn't. My brother who just bought an Air the day before me got Lion with his computer. Shouldn't new computers come with new software? I'm confused. Can anyone help me?

  • I installed mountain lion instead of lion and safari is gone.  How to fix?  OS 10.6.8  Thanks! D

I must use chorme but would prefer Safari again.
    Thanks for helping.

    Safari 5.1.10 for Snow Leopard
If it doesn't install or work afterwards : use Pacifist to install it, then run the installer again as normal.

  • Installing Lion instead of Lion Server

I have a Mac Mini which had OS X server installed (10.6.8).   I was wondering if it possible to install the non-server version of Lion.   If so, how?

My understanding is that the installer will detect SL Server and automatically install the Lion Server add-on, prompting you to purchase and download the add-on.  If you have a non-server Mac Mini, then you should use your original disks to reinstall the non-server SL, before installing Lion.
If you have a Mac Mini Server, then there's no supported way to install the non-server SL.  You'd have to install the non-server SL somehow first, or Google one the ways to do a "clean" install of Lion.  Either way, you likely will have to erase your existing SL Server installation in order to install the non-server Lion.

Don't post in all caps.  Besides being more difficult to read it's tantamount to shouting and is considered rude in forums.  What problems are you having? What model Mac do you have, how much RAM and free space on the boot drive?
Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down) and try the following in order as needed:
1 - select Disk Utility and repair both the disk and disk permissions.  Reboot normally.
2 - reinstall the Mavericks system.

  • Frustrated with Mountain Lion. Where can I get Lion instead?

Since I can not upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, where can I purchase/download OS X Lion instead? Can not find it anymore in App Store or Apple website. Please help.

You can still get Lion but you have to CALL the Apple Web store, and or Phone ordering #, and they will email you a code you can use on the Mac App Store to download Lion. Cost $29.99.
    It is something like 1-800-MY-Apple.
    NOTE:
If they sell it to you and you download it SAVE those files to another folder on your drive and use the lastest version of this program,
Serial Serveur » Lion DiskMaker (US)
To make yourself a Lion Install USB thumb drive so you will always have a way to reinstall Lion on all but the newest Mac computer you own (the newest Mac's have a special build of Lion that the normal Lion installer will not work on).

  • Tap to click not working properly in Mountain Lion. How do I get apple to fix this major issue with mountain lion?

The tap to click does not work with mountain lion as it did before the mountain lion install. I purchased a brand new imac in August of 2011 and got a wireless keyboard and selected the wireless trackpad instead of a mouse.  The trackpad worked wonderful pre upgrade with tap to click. Now after the install of the newest beast, I have to actually press the trackpad rather than a slight tap. I have carpel tunnel and this is causing great stress upon my hand. How do I get apple to fix this major issue with mountain lion?

Perhaps, I was not clear enough.
I have an imac purchased in Aug. 2011 which came with Lion 10.6 (two uprades before mountain lion)
Recently, I just purchased a macbook pro retina with Mountain Lion
On my imac, my settings allowed me to "tap to click" everything EXCEPT the initial log in at the star up of my imac, again running Lion 10.6
On my macbook pro retina which has Mountain Lion, I set up the "tap to click" option, but notice that a "hard" click was neccessary when trying to click things. I thought this was a macbook thing (my first one) so I went and upgraded my imac to Mountain LIon, BIG MISTAKE! Now both my imac AND my macbook only have limited "tap to click" options. Before mountain lion I could "tap" to highlight and select text, tap and drag, and many other thiings that Mountain Lion has disabled.
I am truly surprised that no one has noticed this MAJOR issue.
Is there a way to uninstall this update, similar to how on a PC you can go back to a restore point.
On another note even the way PREVIEW has changed is less user friendly, there used to be icons on the bottom right corner of the screen, now I have to double tap and select the option I would like to switch between contacts and thumbnails. This is really annoying and is causing me time when reviewing files.
Just in case anyone was wondering, I did go to system preferences -> trackpad -> select tap to click
In fact almost all of the trackpad functions have been selected.

at least that the operator has confirmed to me that he called me. I also have problems with either the start of the mac with the power off. I can not understand if it crashes or is just very very slow.
Finally, I have a problem with the external hard disck. I often said to have been ejected incorrectly (not true) and I start to restore the startup recovery disk because disk utility is ineffective from the normal operating system .. is a shocking thing, but how you reduced. in four years it had never happened. seem to have windows or worse. Wake up.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. • Does an upgrade to ilife 11 contain idvd for use with mountain lion (10.8.5)?

Does an upgrade to ilife 11 contain iDVD for use with mountain lion (10.8.5)?  I received an advertisement about upgrading to iLife 11 and it discusses sharing via iDVD, which was disabled when I upgraded to Mountain Lion OS 10.8.5.  Would purchasing the iLife 11 download restore the functionality of iDVD, or is this just another way to get the sheep to upgrade iMovie with no way to export to iDVD or equivalent.  Why is there no Apple warning that Mountain Lion disables and does not support iDVD?  I used to think Microsoft was a trickster, but I'm of the opinion that Apple meets or exceeds their slippery machinations.  Am I just stuck with purchasing a 3rd party software to replace iDVD?

If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • I have Minimac with OSX Server - can I reload it with Mountain Lion?

I have a minmac and runs OSX Server. I do need the server control so can I go ahead and restore with Mountain Lion?

Actually, when you install Mountain Lion client, the Lion version
of Server and its components will be quarantined as an incompatible
app and could then be disposed of.
So either delete before or delete after willl work.

How can I connect my new MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion to my hp b210 printer?  My printer is about 1.5 years old and works wirelessly just fine with my PC.  I just switched to mac.  The printer is supposed to be airprint compatible according to HP.  HP has no software drivers for me to download.  Instead they say to use Mac Software Update to get the software.  However, there are no updates when I try that.  I have tried adding the printer manually using it's IP address and can print a test page, but when I try to print using an application on the Mac it cannot find the printer or says the printer is in use.  Help!!!

  • How can I use apple remote with Mountain Lion? Any Front Row alternative?

    Hi All,
I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
All great except for my Apple Remote control.
Before, I could effectively control my iMac media with Apple Remote by using Front Row (music, photos, videos, good integration with iTunes and iPhoto).
Now, as I understand, Front Row is expired.
So, my Apple remote still works but with very limited options (just music, forward, backward and volume), and it's a real pity.
Any of you Guys know how to restore Front Row?
Otherwise maybe suggest an alternative (sth similar, should allow iMac media control by Apple Remote)?
So far I tried to restore all Front Row files by a Time Capsule Snow Leopard backup (as indicatred on some other Communities).
To restore was easy, but then, no way to launch it.
    Any advice will help!
    Thanks in advance/all the best.
    Marco

Thanks Klaus1 for your prompt answer, although I went again through a dated discussion.
I also got the feeling that somehow they want to push Apple TV..
But, respectfully speaking towards our Friends at Apple, is it fair to promise what you don't deliver?
I have choosen apple because I percive it's different.
    At currently published link: http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC377Z/A/apple-remote
    they do promote the following:
    Apple Remote with Mac
The Apple Remote gives you total command of your music, photos, videos and DVDs from anywhere in the room. It works with Front Row - a menu-based, full-screen interface - to make accessing the digital content on your Mac as simple as navigating your iPod. When you press the Menu button, your desktop fades and the sleek, Front Row interface takes its place, to give you control over your music in iTunes, your photos in iPhoto, the videos in your Videos folder and your DVDs. Turn up the volume. Shuffle. Skip to the next chapter on your DVD. Play a slide show, a home video that you made in iMovie, even a film trailer.
Compatible with Apple products introduced in 2005 or later that have a built-in infrared (IR) receiver. Not compatible with MacBook Pro with Retina display.
Cost for this is 15£ (19€).
Now, I have iMac and Mac Book Pro (no retina display) both with Mountain Lion installed, and I understand both of them are not compatible with Front Row.
Actually I adore apple tv and I got 2 at home nicely working on 2 different TVs.
So I accomplished twice their wish of selling this product to me.
Why shall they deceive me (and many others, as I read) by killing a still promised service?
Should I read all forums before buying a trusted-brand-product like apple, to ensure that id does what declared?
Don't get me wrong, I'm an enthusiast user of the whole apple family, since many years, and still I am.
Just politely complaining for this decision, which creates to Many an easy avoidable disservice.
    Cheers
    Marco

  • New MBP 2012 came with Mountain Lion, I would like to revert to Lion.

    Hello!
I've recently bought a new MBP 15" ( not retina ) and it came with Mountain Lion.
As I use Pro Tools, and lots of third party plugins and I know that it isn't all very compatible yet, I've decided to install Lion instead.
So I connected my new macbook to my other one (early 2011 MBP 13" ) with firewire and wipe it all out, re-partitioned and used it to install Lion so far so good.
After everything is done and installed. I tried powering up the new MBP it will just show me a " Stop Sign " and switches off after a while.
I plugged them back together and booted my old mac ( 13 ) on the new one's hard drive. Everything worked perfectly so the install was succesful, and I even did the sofware updates. When I tried booting it again. No luck. STOP sign is back...
I'm afraid I believe that Apple has blocked something somewhere... Or is something not compatible?
but I really just hope I'm doing something wrong and that someone can just tell me what it is.

So I called APPLE today. And it's NEW to the last batch of computers but as I sadly suspected, the motherboard is simply not compatible with anything but Mountain Lion. And that's why it worked when running it from my 13".
It's never been an issue and they "warned" not to but it was never impossible nor a problem.
So what I used to do is just not possible anymore due to HARDWARE.
    Too bad...
