Restoring music from IPOD to the computer

HELP ME PLEASE!!!! i goofed up the last time i tried this.I have a computer that i just acquired and i want to put my songs from my IPOD back into the computer. How do I upload my songs from my IPOD back onto my computer without erasing them completely like i did once before.

Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. 4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

I recently purchased an iPod. I thought it would make a great backup device until I read about all the problems the iPod is notorious for having, including crashing suddenly. The day I bought the iPod, I deleted about 75% of my music files from my PC to free up space on my computer. However, upon learning that this was not a great idea due to iPod problems, I now need to restore the music to iTunes. How do I do this? I tried to troubleshoot last night for a little while, and selected the option in iTunes, "Consolidate Library." Thought this would be the answer. I don't think it was though, as I could not see my music files on the PC afterwards. I also tried to set my iPod to "Use as a hard disk," went to the drive, and tried to find thie music. The music does not show up though in this drive. Could somebody please shed some light on how I can restore music from my iPod to iTunes? In addition, what exactly is the "Consolidate Library" function?

My computer suddenly died and all I've got is an iPod loaded with music. Can anyone tell me how to download the music from the iPod to the computer? All I can find on Apple is how to do it with a working computer. Thanks.

Buy a 3rd-party ipod manager program - CopyTrans gets good reviews.

My ipod classic has 80Gb and still works well. Problem: The HD on my computer died completely taking all 5 days worth of music with it. I was able to Authorise my new computer thru iStore to retrieve the few online purchases I made but that's it. The remaining disk space (the majority of it) will remain idle unless I either:
1 - synch anyway and lose the existing content (not an attractive option)and build everything up from scratch (lengthy and expensive).
or
2 - find someway of allowing my new computer to synch the music on my ipod from my previous crashed computer.
Any ideas would be warmly and gratefully received.

Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library.There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.

Can't get my music from ipod onto new computer?

So my iPod has been synced to our desktop, and I have bought some music from my ipod that is not on the desktop. But now i have a new computer and i want my music from my ipod, not the desktop, on the itunes on the new computer, but transfer purchases isn't working. So.. is there a way to transfer from the ipod on to the new itunes? Or can someone at the genius bar do that for me?

First of, in iTunes, select "Store" in the menu and authorize the computer.
Then, when your iPhone is connected right click on it and select "Transfer Purchases", this should move your content from your iPhone to your computer.

Computer Crashed, need to download music from Ipod to new computer

My old computer with all of my music on it crashed and is totally kapaupt. However, like a big dummy, I did not have a back-up for my music library. Is there any way to transfer my music from my Ipod to my new computer????

As you may have already found out that while we can transfer music from iTunes to an iPod, we cannot transfer music from iPod to iTunes.
You need to move your music from your iPod to your new iTunes and one of the ways that you can do this is with the help of a third party software.
Please read [*_This Discussion Thread_*|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10570955#10570955] and pay particular attention to the post from Zevoneer. In his post all available software is listed which you can use to accomplish what you want. Most of the software is free. Good Luck.

Our old Desktop computer crashed, finaly have a new computer, but am unsure hoe to transfer all content (music, games, movies & photos) from iPod classic to new computer.
Our last computer run on Windows XP & the new one is Vista, have already down loaded new version of iTunes to new computer, but don't want to plug in iPod, just yet. Don't want to loose all our music (over 2000 songs ) Some are from the iTunes store & some are from our CD colletion, which took ages to put on computer. I also have over 200 photos that were on old computer & is on iPod that I would like to transfer to new computer. Have also purchased movies from iPod Lounge (not iTunes) & am hoping that I will be able to transfer these as well. I have searched & have found several different ways you can do this, but am still unsure of the whole process. If anyone out there has had this issue,a bit of guidence would be appreciated. Thanks
