Restoring my 3GS iPhone

I have contacted Apple Support because I am locked out of my iPhone. They e-mailed me instructions on how to restore all my settings to their original settings. The problem, however, is that iTunes is telling me I need to unlock my phone before iTunes can restore me phone. This is crazy! However, also, they are suggesting that I pay a one-time fee for this problem to be resolved. Nothing was mentioned to me when I spoke to the rep this afternoon before I left work. I tried to connect with support a few minutes ago and the only way to get them is to call!!!!!!!!!!! I have no landline and my phone is LOCKED! CAN ANYONE HELP??????? I was willing to lose all my info to get my phone back but it's not looking like an easy thing to do. Has anyone had to do this before with any luck on their own using the information that they send you?

If you locked yourself out of your phone, there are only 2 ways to get back in:
1) you can restore from the most recent backup you made of the phone using the computer to which you last synched. This will remove your password, but all data new on your phone since that backup will be lost.
2) sometimes, you can't even get into the phone to do step #1 above. In this case, you will have to place your phone in DFU mode (search this forum on how to do so) and restore as a NEW phone. ALL your data will be lost.

I would suggest you try to update your iOS 8.0.2 to the latest iOS 8.1.0 with iTunes on your computer. Don't try to do the update on your iPhone, it takes time and some error always occur. After updating to iOS 8.1.0, if your iPhone can't restart properly, try Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS trial version. It will say that your iPhone is not in normal mode, offering you the option 'restart the device'. Just click the button to let your iPhone restart.

You can try restoring the latest version in iTunes. Be aware that the jailbreak may have altered how your Mac works so you may want to make a clean install of OS X (on a spare disk) & retry installing the newest iOS from Apple onto the device via iTunes.
You can try all the usual steps to restore iOS onto a device.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
You also cannot install older OS's from iTunes so you have little choice but to update the 3GS to iOS 6 (or perform more hacks). If it keeps failing I'd suspect something is altered on the Mac to allow the original jailbreak.
You must search elsewhere if you want to keep the jailbreak.

I'm not sure what that means Richard, but I did change the router's IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.5.1- isn't that what you meant in your first post. I know that isn't reflected in my screen capture that I took last night, but I did do that this morning after I read your post.

I did this and still same results as far as I can tell. Can't get online through the router.

I tried this- at least to the part about checking the IP address under WAN. I assume you mean the WAN page in the modem setup- nothing looked any different after trying what you suggested, and I'm not really sure where I would be "getting IP in public range" or what that means.
I'm about to give up and just buy a new router to see if I can get the same lack of results with a different one. My ISP maintains that everything is set up correctly on their end and really can't do anything more for me. The Modem works and is set up correctly and they can give tech support for a router.

If you are having the same issue on several computers then it is a hardware issue! Not a software issue! Replacement is the only resolution!

3GS iPhone Will not Reset / Restore

I am having a problem restoring 3GS iPhone I do get a Apple start up screen but nothing further. When I attempted to iTunes it says that it's in recovery mode and wants to do something but it never does.
I think it's not completely erased or reset and that's the problem but I don't know.
Any idea out there?

OK, I understand. Try this ... it's much safer. It will simply restore your backup, but not do anything to your iOS:
While your iPhone is plugged in to iTunes, right click on the iPhone icon on the left side of the iTunes display.
Choose "Restore from backup ..." from the pop-up menu that appears.
Again, what this will do is place that backup back on your iPhone without changing iOS. So you should be very confident in the backup contents before doing this.

Error 23, 28, 29: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Also attempt to restore while connected with the white USB Dock Connector cable that shipped with your device, on a known good computer and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value, (00 499901 064000 0), can also confirm a hardware issue. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured security software can also cause these errors.

Synching 2 3Gs iPhones to one iTunes account on one computer

I have a few questions regarding synching two 3Gs iPhones with one iTunes account on one computer.
I had synched both phones (mine and my wifes) to our desktop computer but saw that apps were being placed on both of our phones and contacts were being added to both and duplicated.
1. If I try to synch my wifes iPhone to a her laptop with a new itunes account and it asks about erasing the data, will it get rid of the photos and contacts? I have looked this issue up and no one really seems to know.
2. If I try to synch both iPhones to the desktop with the original itunes how do I avoid the issues of transposing apps, contacts being added to both? Several answers out on the Net say to make two seperate accounts. Does that mean two seperate "iTunes" accounts? Or two seperate profiles on the desktop computer.
The main reason I need to do this is because my wifes iPhone is about two or three firmware updates behind. I would like to update her firmware and back up all of her apps and contacts. I am backing up her photos to Shutterfly just in case, because if something happened to those I might not be around to see iPhone 5. hahaha j/k

1. If you manually backup your wife's phone before you sync for the first time to the laptop, you can save all data and settings of the phone and restore from that backup again after the initial sync.
Here's how to backup manually:
Set up the same iTunes account on the laptop, disable autosync in iTunes/Settings/Devices.
Connect the phone, right click on it in the device list and choose "backup" iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, to copy apps and purchased media to the new library.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

2. If you're syncing both phones on one computer, either create a second user account on your computer, log in and do the same manual backup process as described above, or, take the time to set up each phone individually, including the settings for calendars and contacts, which apps to sync, etc.
iTunes will remember the settings for each phone and you'll only have to do this once.
You can only use apps on different devices if you're using the same account you did at the time you bought them.

Is there a problem with iPhone update server, I can't seem to update my IOS on my wife's 3GS iPhone, keep getting message that the server is not reachable, yet I am connected to internet and had no problem syncing the phone or downloading iTunes software

I have repeatedly tried in recent days to update the IOS software on my wife's 3GS iPhone but keep getting message that the iPhone update server cannot be contacted. The phone syncs normally and I am sure I am connected to the internet properly. Also I have successfully updated ITunes software during this same time frame. What gives??

Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. Follow iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
