Restoring my iPhone 3GS.... Why wont it turn back on? I'm going insane!
So I just tried to restore my iPhone 3Gs for like the umteenth billion time it gets all the way to end of the factory restore and restarts well at least its supposed to. But when it shuts down to restart it never turns back on and the only way to get it to turn back on is to hold down the home and power buttons at the same time the problem is that just puts it back into restore mode ant its just frozen there ive done this about six times and the apple care on the phone has expired. what can i do? ahas anyone ever had this problem? or can somebody please tell me how to fix it? im pretty sure im not doing anything wrong i followed the instruction like it was high school test im just not sure what to do!
Sounds like a hardware failure. Bring your phone to Apple for evaluation.

Then the SIM may have failed. Try removing and re-inserting it. If that doesn't fix it, you will have to get the SIM replaced by your carrier.

If the screen shows a plug going to itunes, then you have no choice, It's in recovery mode. You'll be given the chance to restore from a backup either from itunes or icloud.
I assume when you got the message to update (was this for the ios or update some apps?), that was before the device when dead. At any rate, doing a restore does not change the ios. -

I'm practically at wits end, here.
For two days I've been trying to restore my iPhone 3GS and so far, nothing.
The problem happened after I downloaded and updated my iPhone with iOS5. When I tried to restore it from one of three back-ups that I had, I ran into
that error (-50). Managed to get passed that and tried again. When I did, I get the message saying "iTunes could not restore the iPhone ****** because the backup session failed."
It doesn't just do this for my most recent back up; it does this for ALL of my back-ups. Is there any kind of fix out sure-fix for this (barring getting a new phone)?! I think I've tried several strats that I've seen in other threads and nothing has worked.
(btw, the comp that I'm using primarily is Windows Vista)*update* GOOD NEWS, EVERYONE! Turns out that I was able to restore my phone from a back up, after two days at it!
Unfortunately, the back up was from a year ago! At this point in time, I'm just glad to have my contacts back, though I feel that now would be be best to make sure I keep backing up my phone to make sure this doesn't happen again o.O -

It started by not turning on and it still does not unless plugged in. Then once it displayed a colorless grey screen that said "no service" and the battery symbol said 100 %. After resetting the iPhone it now is recognized as an iPhone in recovery mode.sounds like it's time to bring your phone in for evaluation

I have exactly the same issue as described above : I installed the update 5.1.1 on my iphone 3GS and since then, I can not turn it on anymore. In Itunes, I get an error 37 when I am doing a restauration and it stops.
This error has nothing to do with firewall : I tried to restore the phone on several computers, including in an Apple reseller and it did not work anywhere.
I spent several hours on phone with the hotline from Apple which arrived to the conclusion that it is a hardware issue, but the phone was working perfectly fine until I installed this update! -

Im trying to restore my iphone 3GS as i am giving it to my dad. When I hit the restore button when connected to my PC and itunes it takes me to my documents folder and asks for a filename. I cant find anywhere on the internet that this has happened to anyone else and the steps that itunes say are supposed to happen arent. please help.It says at the top under Redeem after I touched that:

That usually means the phone was hacked or jailbroken to unlock the phone and when you update the phone it locked back up again.
Only way to resolve this issue, is to find out who the orignal carrier was and have them unlock it. If you bought this from a 3rd party contact the seller and have him/her unlock it for you by contacting the phone carrier. -
i had recently followed orders to restore my iPhone 3gs (iOS 6.1) from a question on apple support. However it was working fine before that, it's just that my phone didn't have signal. So it said to restore my iPhone and now it says that the Activation server is temporarily unavailable and when i plugged it into my mac, it said that i ddn't have a sim card installed. What can I do to fix this besides bring it to the store? it also bugs me because this answer was supposed to work but it just messed my phone up even more. To move the folder back you need to access:
\Users\(your username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
And insert the folder back to it, iTunes will automatically recognise it -

I just bought the phone off ebay and it was working fine before I tried to update it. This is when the problems started. Firstly, it wouldnt update because it said there was something wrong with the iphone, so i chose to restore it as there was nothing on the phone anyways. After I restored it, its saying there is no sim inserted and it wont let me activate it. I really need help with this.Try again now. I had the same issue this morning with my phone. After a restore it said it could not activate and to try again later.
If you try again and it doesn't work, click the home button and edit your WiFi settings. Forget all networks and start the activation again.
Instead of entering any WiFi details this time, scroll to the bottom and click "Connect to iTunes".
This is what I did and it activated for me.
**EDIT** Sorry, I missed the part about the missing sim. Mine did not say that. It just said "your phone could not be activated at this time. try again later"
