Try doing a level reformat of the iPod's flash storage instead to see if that kills the restore loop using the instructions in the article below.

Either redownload them directly to the iPod by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
or sync them to your iPod via iTunes

  • HT1339 after restoring my ipod nano (6th gen) it says that it is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. i cannot get passed this stage. help!!!

I have restored my ipod nano 6th generation and am being told it is now in recovery mode so needs to be restored which is what i have just done. I can't get any further than this. Please help.

Are you really running Windows 98? I sure hope not. :S
I have noticed a few others with the same problem the past couple of weeks. Many of them were able to resolve the issue by doing a low level reformat of the iPod's flash storage using the instructions in this article.

  • I need help restoreing my ipod nano 3rd gen so its like new

I need help restoreing my ipod nano 3rd gen so its like new

Plug it to your computer using iPod USB Cable (any cable should work excluding iPhone 5 and Shuffle cables)...... when you see your iPod in iTunes go to that iPod and click restore...... the whole process should take (depending on what you have on your iPod and its is up to date) it should take no longer than 30 minutes...... then it will ask if you want to set up as new iPod or restore from back-up (itunes back up), since you said:
    so its like new
click set as new iPod and follow through what they said.

  • HT1711 I restored my Ipod Nano.  I thought I would keep all my songs on my PC.  It seems to have erased most of my downloads.  How do I retrieve?

I restored my Ipod Nano due to most of the songs crackling or breaking up while playing.  I thought I would keep all my songs on my PC.  It seems to have erased most of my downloads from my PC.  How do I retrieve?

Restoring your ipod will have no effect on the music stored on your computer.
If for some reason the music is not on your computer, then use your backup copy of your computer to put it back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy, then you can transfer some purchases in some countries:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • I can't restore my ipod nano 5g

I can't restore my ipod nano 5g, I follow all the steps of the iTunes program but when the process of restore is finish it starts all over again saying that an Ipod in process of restore is connected and to start using it I have to restore it... I can't use any of the bottoms of the Ipod, but the lock one does work. Please help me; I've proved to update the iTunes, to change the USB port and also to reset the computer, nothing seems to work...

The folder that you need to delete, iPod Software Updates, should be in this location on your computer:
    C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\
If it is not there, then you may want to try searching for this folder, in case your iTunes/Apple software decided to place its software updates for iPod folder in another location.
Go to the "START" menu, and select "Search". Select "All files and folders", and make sure that you are searching over your entire drive. Type "ipod software updates" in the blank, and click on OK (or hit Return) to begin searching.
Any folders of that sort of kind showing up in odd locations, or does your search return nothing?
Also, by the way, you are getting this exact error message, right?:
The iPod "[your iPod's name]" could not be updated because the firmware file could not be found.
If it says something different, then quote what the error message exactly says.

Does this video play okay in iTunes?  Have you tried resetting your Nano?  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If it plays okay in iTunes, try removing the video from the iPod and resyncing it.

  • After restoring my iPod Nano it won't reset.

Recently I had some trouble with my iPod Nano (4th Generation) where whenever I plugged it in iTunes would freeze and my computer would be unable to access the iPod or unplug it. This occurred after updating iTunes and then restarting my computer while the iPod was still plugged in, for whatever reason my computer would not log out with the iPod still plugged in so I had to remove it physically. When I tried plugging it back in the computer would not restart until I had removed it again. After all this whenever I tried plugging it in iTunes would freeze and stop responding and I Windows would not let me access it. After reading some articles, reinstalling iTunes and rebuilding my library I eventually managed to get the iPod connected by putting it in disk mode and then connecting it to my computer. With that done I then proceeded to try restoring the iPod. This appeared to work but I think I removed prematurely when it appeared that it wasn't going to get past the apple logo. I tried again and got it back into disk mode and tried restoring it again. This time I have left it plugged in with iTunes open but it still won't go past the apple logo and it has been like that for at least 30 minutes. Is it still recoverable?

    Hello ABonyMouse,
The following article provides steps that can help get your iPod back to a working state.

  • Can't restore the iPod Nano

I have 3 iPod Nano's and iTunes 7.0.2 can not restore one of them with "iPod Software 1.1.1 for iPod nano (Second Generation)" after one of the teenagers connected it to his Mac from school. It keeps telling me that it can not get the update.
There was a problem downloading the iPod software for

    The iTunes diagnostics are ok.

I am almost ready to return all 3 iPods to get music players that work.

I have now tried reloading iTunes and Quick Time several times on 3 different computers (1 with Win 2000 server and 2 with XP Pro). Restore and Updates (other 2 iPods) don't work. I will try another Internet provider in the morning. If I am having this much trouble (I am a system administrator), how do the average people deal with the problem.

  • Restore my iPod Nano 5th gen

When I repaired my iMac G4, I decided to use it to sync my iPod content. But I want to restore it to defaults to make it work better. I am running iTunes 6 and I don't want to download iTunes 11 just to reset my iPod. How do I restore entirely my iPod Nano 5th Gen to factory defaults using iTunes 6?

I click restore, it said: "The iPod software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct, and your network connection is active, or try again later." It's not the Internet connection, I'm using the same computer with the problem to write this message. Can I bypass iPod update and restore it and install the updates manually or something?

  • ITunes keeps trying to restore my iPod Nano over and over

I picked up a sixth gen iPod Nano the other day but have run into a issue with it. When I first got it I completed a sync and unplugged it only to find no music synced, iTunes reset the device to factory but did not move over any media. I am using iTunes 11 on Windows 7. I connected the Nano a second time with no issue and iTunes advised that it needed to be reset. I clicked ok and iTunes proceeded to download something and then apply the reset. At the end of this process iTunes advised the iPod needed to be reset and the process started all over again, and again, and again. After giving up I unplugged the device and it no longer turns on, Windows does not see it as a device in the file manager, and iTunes will only offer to reset it yet again.
Is there any way to recover this device?

    Hello, djhood17.
Thank you for the question.  Try the steps in the article below regarding the reset loop you are experiencing.  Start with the section labeled Constantly restarting.

Your problem can often be resolved by changing the drive letter for your iPod. The following link will show you how to change the drive letter.

  • Should I restore my iPod nano 2nd gen?; click wheel is unresponsive.

My iPod connects to iTunes perfectly fine, and when disconnected from iTunes, the hold switch turns the screen light on and I can see the menu. However, when I try to actually use the iPod with the click wheel, it does not work at all. Would restoring my iPod fix this problem? Or does the issue seem bigger than that? I realize that I will lose all of my music (most of which is not on my current computer), but I guess if that is the only way to fix my iPod, it'll have to do! Thank you!

Then it is probably a hardware failure and you will need to get the click wheel replaced.
