Restoring my iPod on a Windows PC

Is it odd that my week old iPod already asked me for a restoration?
I uploaded all my songs and videos to a new 80GB black iPod earlier in the week.
Everything has been fine.
But I also own a 4 GB iPod Mini and I decided to update the songs on that device as well.
Once that was done, I decided to plug the new black 80GB iPod in and a message popped up saying my iPod was in restoration mode and needed to be completely wiped out.
Granted, this only took 5 minutes but I wasn't sure if I had a defective unit or if this kind of restoration is necessary every time I switch between my two iPods.
Or is there another problem at play here? (Do iPod updates require a restore as well?)
Thanks for the help!

I have an iPod classic 6th gen 160gb and everytime I try to restore the ipod give me a error 1439 and become imposible to restore the iPod on my windows PC, but in a Mac works fine I guess cause when this trooble happen I always go to the Apple Store and they restore it without problem, so i want to know what could be wrong? Is my pc or is the iPod?
    Thanks in advance.

iPod Classic went on the fritz today just after syncing. Couldn't restore via iTunes, kept getting 1439 errors, Windows wouldn't format as FAT32, claimed the "Volume is too big for FAT32". Finally tracked down EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition (Free) and formatted as FAT32 with 128k clusters. The iPod is filling back up again. Might be worth a shot here...

You can Only Sync to one iTunes Library at a time.

Cured the problem! Reinstalled an earlier version of itunes from oldapps.com (version 10) now everything works as it should. I would suggest that if you are experiencing these problems that you do the same. I must say that it is a brave business decision on behalf of apple to effectively lock out all windows 7 users from their products and sales channels and I can only wish them luck in this very shortsighted policy.

  • I just factory restored my iPod 5 touch and when I plug it into iTunes to restore the back up I made, iTunes becomes unresponsive and closes. But when I unplug the iPod, it starts working again. Using Windows 8 and iTunes is updated, please help.

I just factory restored my iPod 5 touch and when I plug it into iTunes to back it up, iTunes stops responding and closes. This only occurs when the iPod is plugged in, when it isn't, iTunes works fine. I am using Windows 8 and iTunes is updated (as of this posting). Any suggestions on getting around this? Thank you.

Also, when I put it through the Windows diagnostic, it lists an "incompatible program" WHILE my iPod is plugged in.

Getting error code 1611 when trying to restore my Ipod. I have tried a forced restore and disabling my computer security and still nothing...ready to throw it out the window at this stage...help!!

    Error 1611
This error typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, this error may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
If you also unsuccessful on another computer then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. It would see that your iPod needs service as specified in the article.

  • I have restored my iPod classic and everything has been wiped off, now when I connect it to the laptop, iTunes doesn't recognise it and windows won't format it, an error message comes up "unable to format"

I have restored my iPod classic and everything has been wiped off, now when I connect it to the laptop, iTunes doesn't recognise it and windows won't format it, an error message comes up "unable to format". Can someone please help me sort this problem, it's so frustrating!!!!!!

It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

You can restore the iPod icon by doing a "reset home screen layout" on the Iphone. Go to Settings ->General -> Reset -> Reset Home Screen Layout. It will come back

  • Does restoring an ipod classic (prior format on Mac) in Windows delete music?

Does restoring an ipod classic (which was previously formatted on a Mac) in Windows 7 delete the music already on ipod?

    Thanks fiend,
I don't have access to a Mac. This ipod (bought 2nd hand) is my first apple product & came with some music on, but I can't add any, till I reformat to use in Windows. Was hoping not to lose existing music but ..... Thanks for helping a novice.

  • Anyway for me not to restore my ipod in order to conncet to windows?

My ipod is Mac format, And since my macbook is not working right now im downloading songs on my windows laptop. When I connect its said that I need to restore my ipod which means it will erase all my files and I will start all over again. I don't get why my cousins ipod can connect to my macbook to get song w/o restoring her ipod which is a windows format.
Anyway for me to get song from both my mac and windows w/o restoring it?

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. Macs however can read Windows formatting which is why your cousin can use a Windows formatted iPod on a Mac. There are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows. XPlay for instance gets good reviews you can find XPlay at this link: XPlay 2
You can read another user's experience of using XPlay at this link: iPod on Mac and Windows

  • After windows system restore, most ipod data not copying

I recently did a system restore on my computer using windows XP. When I tried to update my ipod, it said that 81 items were not transferred because my computer was not 'authorized' for them. All of the items were on my computer long before the system restore and were all purchased legally from the itunes store. So now most of my music, podcasts, and all of my tv shows won't sync to my ipod. I did a restore on the ipod, but that didn't help. Does anyone know what to do?

Is the new memory according to recommended specs?
there is no connection between battery and memory as far as i know. but while restoring OS to factory settings, it is advised that you keep original factory hardware (use old memory sticks etc.).

  • I have plugged my ipod 4th gen into my computer to reset it, and after agreeing to the trems a window pops up saying " it cannot restore your ipod. check your network settings or try again later. i dont know what to do! please help

hello. my ive been trying to restore my ipod touch 4th gen because it was frozen on the apple logo. i got it to go to the connect to itunes image. i plugged it into my computer to try and restore. i open itunes and it says "you must restore this ipod to use itunes". i click ok and then i accept the terms. after that it shows that it will take 41 mins to restore, but then it says "we connot restore this, there was a problem. it also says to check your network connections or try again" my network connetions are on and its still not working! please help

Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update usually resolves the timeout error.

  • IPOD detected by Windows but NOT iTunes – possible solution

I have a new 30GB Video IPOD with an AMD PC running Windows XP SP2 and like many others posting on this site, my iTunes stopped recognizing my IPOD. ITunes did work correctly immediately after my initial software installation and I was able to sync some music, but it failed thereafter and I was unable to add any more files. Like many other users, I tried all suggested fixes including the 5R’s, uninstalling and re-installing the software, changing selective start-up items using “MSCONFIG”, etc. Nothing worked – until I tried the following…
    1) Uninstall iTunes & IPOD updater software using Windows Add/Remove Software tool in the Start/Settings menu
    2) Reboot Windows
    3) Connect IPOD to USB port (Windows should detect the IPOD)
    4) Run the original IPOD CD installation disk, load the IPOD Updater software (but not iTunes …yet)
    5) The IPOD Updater software loads first, so when prompted to load iTunes, wait (you may minimize the window), go into the IPOD Updater software (Start/Programs menu) and open the IPOD Updater window by clicking on the icon. If your system works like mine, the IPOD should now be recognized and the “RESTORE” button should now be available. Don’t click the “RESTORE” button – just leave this window open (minimize the window if you wish) and go back to the iTunes install window.
    6) Continue with the installation of the iTunes software.
    7) Once installed try opening the iTunes program to see if IPOD is detected (at this point it still didn’t work for me)
    8) With the IPOD still connected, and the IPOD updater window still open, go to Add/Remove Software (Start/Settings) and click on “remove” iTunes – you’ll be prompted to “Repair” or “Remove”. Choose REPAIR. Once this process is complete, try opening iTunes again – at this point my computer now recognized the IPOD

i could do everything fine up until step 6), the installation of itunes. when i tried to, with the ipod updater window still open, it said it could not continue without closing the updater program. any suggestions?
