Restoring new iPad 2 from iPhone backup?

Can I easily make my iPad 2 have same folder structure as my iPhone 4?  I just got iPad 2 and tried to "Restore from Backup" from my iPhone 4, however, the folder structure was completely lost.  Apps are on iPad, but not organized into my folders like my iPhone 4.  Also, my links to websites that were on my Home Screens are also missing completely.  It seems tedious to have to manually re-create everything I have done on my iPhone.  Also, are there any disadvantages of restoring from the Backup of an iPhone?  Have I messed up somethin

What if you get the "iPhone couldn't restore due to corruption"? That might be because of a difference in the iOS or simple because the previous backup process wasn't fully successful. Then I might recommend you to take a look at the iPhone Backup Extractor. Also I would love to see you picking up such a subject, how we can deal with corrupt backups. Cheers!

  • Restored new iPad from iPhone, but apps' settings didn't transfer

I just got a new iPad. I chose to restore it from my iPhone backup when iTunes asked. All of the apps made their way over, but I was surprised to see that the settings, such as login info (username/password, email account settings, etc.) didn't make it for any of the apps. Is that normal? Do I really have to set up all the apps by hand (including email accounts) - there's no way to have all the settings and preferences get copied over as well?
    Mike

I am also assuming you bought a brand new out of the box iPad and it is
running iOS 4.2. which I should have asked from the get go but moving on ....
yep - brand new iPad, running the latest iOS.
From the reading I've done, I find it odd that the devices tab shows 3
different iPad backups in iTunes. The article states...
+iTunes keeps only one backup created during the sync process for each device.
yes! I saw this too - it's very weird. I could make a screengrab of what I see - there are definitely more than one iPad backup (but only one iPhone backup) listed.
The fact that you recent backup occurred so quickly indicates that the
information wasn't restored to the iPad. Did iTunes ask for the password? If
not then it wouldn't have transferred the info from your phone when you "
restored and that's why it's telling you the operation could not be completed
    would be my assumption.
it did ask for the password (which it also had in the keychain, so it was automatically filled in). It did a second phase after the first quick "restoring" where it took a while to copy the apps - so I know it did copy all the apps (I see them on the iPad), just not the settings...
Here are some articles that may be relevant in one way or another. Forgive me
    if I am repeating information.
thanks; I did read all this, but everything states that the settings should come along when I restore
I'm sort of at a loss now unless you delete the encrypted backup, unencrypt the
phone and backup again, restore the iPad as a new device and then backup and
live with having to enter all of the passwords.
yeah, I can do that. I will also try creating a new account on my Mac (with an empty iTunes), connect and back up the phone to an encrypted backup, and try restoring that to an iPad (maybe my existing backup on the iTunes account is somehow incomplete since it used to be unencrypted).
I really thought this would be a relative no brainer but it might make sense to
speak to someone with more brains than me (that shouldn't be too tough) like
    Apple Support. http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
yeah, everything I read on-line makes it seem like this should be easy. I'll call them tonight when I'm home in front of the Mac and the iPad...
    thanks!

  • Help getting data from iTunes onto my New iPad from iPhone backup

Hi for 2 days now I have been trying to sync my New iPad2 with my iPhone 3GS, I have followed lots of threads & advice which has been helpful but its not quite happening for me!
I set up iCloud and iTunes as advised, my iPhone & iPad share the same Apple ID. I backed up my iPhone to iTunes successfully, and restored the iPad via iTunes using the iPhone backup, it went thru the motions OK so I assume completed but I can't see any change.
Under "Purchases" in my iTunes account it has two tabs one for the iPhone and the other iPad listing all my Apps so clearly it recognises my Apps but the Apps only feature on my iPhone I can't get them onto my iPad. I even deleted some apps and reloaded them since the sync & backups but it still doesn't work. Strangely under my "Account" in iTunes it says only 1 Device is recognosed by iTunes and thats my New iPad, yet it still shows a Tab under Purchases for my iPhone so I don't understand why this is not listed as a recognised Device under the Accounts tab.
My contacts, calendars etc are in sync between the two devices wihtout any trouble at all.
I did think it was because some of the apps were downloaded before the sync / backup but some threads lead me to beleive you can sync the content no matter when it was purchased. Under the "Purchases" tab for my iPad I can view my "Apps" which has a "Download all" option so Ibeing at a loss what to do next I proceeded to Download All and it was clearly doing this for some time but still nothing on my iPad.
I was advised to turn iCloud off whilst I do the backup and restore on iTunes, and then turn it back on after. I have turned my iPad off/on after these updates but still the apps do not transfer across.
I feel like I am so close now but for some reason something is still not working! Please Help - thankyou.
(Just to add both devices are using the latest software update & iTunes working with Vista Windows on PC.)

Connect and select iPhone in computer iTunes sidebar, in Music tab,
    select
         Sync Music,
         Selected Playlists, artists, albums....
Select the music you want on iPhone.
         Click Sync button (bottom right)

I'm selling my iPad 3 today and want to get the new iPad 5 as soon as it releases.  Before I sell my iPad 3 I'm going to backup the device and then erase all content and settings from the device.  Will this also delete my iPad backup from my iCloud account?  I plan on restoring my iPad 5 from my iPad 3 iCloud backup.  Will this work?  Thanks for any help!

  • Restore iPad from iPhone backup

    Hi
I'm a long time iPhone user. Just got an iPad. I have backed up my iPhone to my PC and then restored the iPad from the backup.
The restore from backup definitely isn't working.
I'm following all the steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109
but it's not transfering messages, email accounts, wifi passwords, map bookmarks or anything that is listed in the list of backup-ed items here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
    Super frustrating!
    PLEASE HELP.

It's simply, you have to connect iPad with iTunes and right click it on the sources in the left sidebar of it. Then you have to choose from the menu "Back up" when it's done disconnect iPad and connect iPhone do the same thing but from the menu you have to choose "Restore from Backup" and then choose the iPad backup you did before.

  • Updated iPad 1 to IOS 5. When trying to restore my iPad from my backup it gets half way through and the iPad reboots and iTunes says "An error occurred while restoring this iPad (-1)"

Updated iPad 1 to IOS 5. When trying to restore my iPad from my backup it gets half way through and the iPad reboots and iTunes says "An error occurred while restoring this iPad (-1)"
I have tried to restore my contacts and company data at least 20 times and every time half way through THE iPAD REBOOTS! When it boots back up it is at the brand new iPad screen.
This makes me angry as I do not use the iPad for fun and games. I use it for business. My company data and records for the last year are gone. ALL of my out standing customer invoices are gone. ALL payments received are gone! ALL Business contacts and emails ARE GONE! All my company, personal email accounts and settings ARE GONE!
What am I supposed to do now? In 6 hours I have to get on the road and conduct business with a empty blank factory out of the box iPad. How am I supposed to know who owes me money or who has paid their bills Apple? All of my meetings and calendar dates are GONE!
Everything was supposed to be backed up and restored after the update!
Question???WHY DID YOU MAKE THIS UPDATE WIPE OUT ALL SETTINGS AND APPS ON THE iPAD??? All the other updates left everything on the iPad intact and ONLY upgraded the IOS,and when it was done everything was still there.
Yes! I have done everything. Rebooted computer, checked for updates, Hard booted iPad, Factory restored iPad to ios 5 twice, tried every usb port I have, unplugged all other usb components.
Everytime half way through "Restoring iPad from backup..." The iPad turns off shows a spinning circle then shows the Apple logo and takes me to the brand new iPad setup screen.
Apple, you have no idea the level of stress you have created today.....

Check the console app to see if there are any error messages. I had one app showing an issue (Pet Hotel) the error was (truncated):
    ERROR: Restore message response: 102 rename error: File name too long (63) at path "/var/mobile/Library/SafeHarbor/com.pocketgems.tappethotel/Container/Documents/ savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHis tory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGa meHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/sa vedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHisto ry/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGame History/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/save dGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory /savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHi story/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedG ameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/s avedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHist ory/savedGameHistory/1313349538-pocket_gems_crash_report.txt" (MBErrorDomain/102)
I manually snyc'ed that particular app and then re-ran the restore and am now the proud owner of a working iphone. Not sure it is the same problem or app but looking in the console was the key!

  • Is it possible to restore an ipad from icloud backup of an iphone?

I don't know if this is technically possible.  We have several iOs devices associated with one apple id, an iphone, ipad, and ipod.  I wanted to know if I can delete all the stuff from my ipad and restore it with stuff from the iphone. Thanks for any help.

    Hey there Crusauvage,
It sounds like you have an iPad you would like to restore from an iPhone backup. According to this article yes, you can:
    iTunes: About iOS backups
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4946
Only app data from App Store apps and sync settings will be restored to your device when you do the following:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Restoring iPad from iPhone backup to get rid of 'Other'

I have a 32GB iPad 2 and an iPhone 4. In Itunes the iPad shows 5.99GB of 'Other' which I have been unable to ascertain exactly what this comprises of although a search of these forums indicates it may be corrupted material.
In the hope of regaining the 5.99Gb (or at least some of it) I am thinking of restoring the iPad from my iPhone 4 backup which has 2.35GB of 'Other'. This will at least release 3.6GB of space (if it works).
Any comments or suggestions about the feasibility doing of this? There seems to be conflicting views on the Internet so some comments would be appreciated.

  • HT1688 how do I sync new ipad with iphone backup?

How do I sync new ipad mini and iphone 4s?

Make a backup of the iPhone, connect the iPad to the computer and iTunes and restore from that backup.

  • Can't restore new phone from a backup

I went to the Apple store today and had my iPhone 4 replaced under warranty because the sleep button was stuck. The guy told me to come home, plug it into iTunes and choose the restore from previous phone backup option. I did that and halfway through it stopped, and gave me an error. I had no other option but to click "Ok" and next thing I know it went to the page where you sync it and it already put the phone under my name. Now I can't get back to the screen where you restore from a backup! I went into device preferences and the backup from Sunday night from my old phone is still there, but I have no idea how to restore it to my new phone. I really want my pictures back into my camera roll, contacts, texts, and all that back! Does anyone know how to get back to that screen where you choose to restore?
    Thank you!

If anyone else is looking for a solution to this same problem, I was able to get it working looking through several older discussions.
The solution was to use the password that I had on my iTunes account the very first time I set up the iPhone about a year ago.  I changed my iTunes password about 10 months ago;  but apparently, the backups continue to use the password that existed when the phone was first set up.
A couple of troubling things with this are that 1) I didn't apply a password when I did the backup this afternoon so I don't understand why it was required when I did the restore a few hours later. and 2) it makes zero sense why iTunes would not be smart enough to use the current accout password when requiring the password to restore from a backup made with no password.
I thought iTunes and Apple were smarter than that.  With so many posts stating exactly the same problem, it is clear that this is bug in the software.
    Best,
    Craig

  • Apple Configurator not restoring new iPad 2 with backup

I've been using Apple Configurator to restore new, out-of-the-box iPads with a back up image in order to skip the registration process and bind them to Profile Manager. Now that iPads are coming with OS 6, it seems that it's causeing the iPads to fail restore and I have to set the iOS setting to Latest (used to be "No Change").
I've remade back ups, updated to Apple Configurator 1.2.1, and taken out the profiles, but it seems that no matter what I do I can't restore an iPad 2 with just a backup without installing the latest iOS. It takes 4-5 times longer for each iPad and really slows down my deployment.
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Cheers!

  • How do I restore my ipad from a backup on icloud

I am setting up a new PC windows 7. How do I download all my programs and files from the Backup on icloud

If the iPad has ever been synced to a computer, move the content (the ENTIRE iTunes folder) from the old computer to the new computer.
If the iPad has never been synced to a computer and the content does not exist on another computer, simply download previous purchases from iTunes.

  • Setting up a new iPad from a backup a real pain

With the technologies available one would think that when buying / upgrading to a new iPad it would be easy.
Don't fool yourseld it's a HUGE pain, what makes it worse is when the OS is different.
Why would there be a STOP option during a restore if it does nothing when you press it????
All I want to do is install the new OS then be able to select the beckup I want to restore, not what Apple thinks I want to restore.
Come on Apple you can do better than this. even MS offers this option.
