Restoring not restoring backed up information
I've restored my iPhone multiple times, but the last two times I've done it, I lost all of my favorites, settings, SMS messages, notes, stocks, weather settings, etc. I thought iTunes backed these up?
Both restores were running the latest iPhone firmware; I don't remember the iTunes version I was running my first restore, but the latest one was with iTunes 7.4.2.
Not a biggie, but it's pretty annoying. Is there some preference that I'm missing here?
Not quite accurate...Notes will not backup and is an issue for many users; Favorites is backed up in a sense because it links to explorer, using iTunes as a conduit, so those will come back. Stock, Weather and Clock are not backed up and you will always have to rebuild your choices. You will also have to always reset your passwords and iPhone settings for your preferences.... For a RESTORE using iTunes.
A RESET does not loose or change anything.

Restoring backed up information onto new iPhone?
My old iPhone 4s got stolen but was backed up by iTunes. I bought a new one today and when it asked me if I wanted to restore information from another iPhone onto my new one, I accidently restored my brothers iPhone onto mine rather than mine. Unfortunately, no. When you sync with iTunes it creates a backup of the data and settings on your phone. This backup can later be used to restore your phone (or replacement phone) to recover the data and settings. You can also back up your phone to iCloud if your are running iOS 5, but you would have had to do that before losing your phone. If you did backup your phone to iCloud or by syncing it with iTunes, there is no backup to restore to.

How to restore backed up information from desktop file
I had my computer worked on and the tech had to back up all my information and he stored it in a file and put it on my desktop. I now would like to reinstall all the pics, and other information. How do I do that?
What type of file is it? If a folder, drag the items to the appropriate locations such as User/Pictures folder.

Disk Repair reported that it could not repair the HD Disk. I am to reformat the disk and restore backed up files. OSX Utilities give me a choice of restoring from time machine backup (which I have on MyPassport) but no information on reformatting the disk, which I assume I have to do first. How do I reformat the HD ...or does the restore from Time Machine do both things?
Boot OS X Recovery and use Disk Utility.
If Disk Utility reported the disk cannot be repaired though, you should replace it with a new one. -
I am trying to restore my phone from the backed up information on my computer. It is asking me for a password. I tried my screen lock code and my apple id. Does anyone know what password it wants?

open itunes on computer
plug cable into computer not phone
turn phone off
hold home button and plug cable into phone. do not release home button until an itunes graphic appears on device.
look to computer should have message about recovery mode click ok and restore

If the non-syning ones play in iTunes on the coputer:
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

Getting Information From Restored Back-Up???
I recently backed-up and restored my iPhone 4s as new.
I have forgotten my email address and password for one
of the social networking apps I had on the phone.
I was wondering If I were to restore the back-up,
would I still be able to see the details of that app's login details?

ED.I had my computer wipe clean and had to reload the software. after doing so i was doing a sync and it wipe out my hand device and not i lost all information. before i had computer service i saved palm informaiton on a storage drive and would like to know if there a way to reload to computer and get saved information?

There is no 4g.
If you don't want to restore it with your old iPhone information, then just restore as a NEW phone, not from the backup. Don't quite understand what there's not to get. :-| -
I took my mac to an iStore in South Africa however my country does not have an iStore. Macbook upgraded from 10.5.8 to mountain lion. I lost the update when I tried to restore my old information. How can I get my update back without paying again?
Ok, that sounds like a valid approach...but now the question is, when you say you lost the upgrade when you tried to restore, exactly what do you mean? Restore from a Time Machine backup, or another kind of backup? What happened to the operating system when you did that?
If it damaged the operating system, you should be able to recover it by restarting your computer holding either the Option key (should result in a grey screen that shows the macintosh hard drive and a recovery hard drive), or by holding the Command and R keys while starting.
You can use the recovery hard drive to reinstall Mac OS X either way. If the Option key restart, click on the recovery hard drive to boot from that.
Then with either approach you will have a screen with a drop-down that gives you choices, such as install Mac OS X, Disk Utility, Terminal. You will want to use Install (or Reinstall) Mac OS X...note, you must be connected to the internet from this point on. -
my ipad screen is black and will not reset and does not come back after restoring, the info is still on internal because i can see it on itunes in the apps catagory it's the display is not working, can see backlight but black...does anyone know how to fix, other than take it to apple.
thanks!The wish list only works on apps you have to pay for. To get it tap the icon of the app you want to save. After it opens at the upper right corner is a box with a arrow. Tap that then tap add to wish list list in the box that opens.

How to restore backed up files (not lightroom catalogue) from one external drive to another.
I recently backuped my photo files from one external drive to another. The backup (carbon copy cloner) pointed to some corrupt files on the original drive.
I have deleted those files and am finding good copies of them in Time Machine backups.
I want to get rid of the original external drive; use the recent backup as my main external and then back it up onto a brand new drive.
What I am not sure about is how to point lightroom to the backups so it knows to look on the new drive instead of the old drive and all those exclamation marks and question marks go away.
There are close to 60,000 images in numerous folders all with one 'parent folder.'

Can I point to the one parent folder and all the subfolders will come back?

I recently got the new iPhone 5c I used icloud to back everything up from my 4s to my new 5c. Now, I keep getting a pop up that says Continue Restoring? (This iPhone has not been backed uprecently because it has not finished being restored. Would you like to finish downloading any remaining purchases and media before backing up, or delete them along with any app date?)
I seleted to finish downloading because I didn't want to lose anything. It still will not finish downloading and I have tried this several times.

This message is displayed if your iOS device has been trying to complete a restore for more than three days. This can occur if your restore has been interrupted due to network connectivity issues or some other problem occurs.

How do I restore an iCloud backup if my device is already set up for use?

I have tried to update IOS 5.1 in my Iphone 4 and unfortunately I got an error message and phone is stucked at restore point. When synching by 4th gen ipod touch it skips the first step - backup-, does steps 2 through 5, then I get a message the ipod could not be backed up because a session could not be started with the ipod. How do I fix this? Do I have to restore my ipod? Will all my apps be erased?
You have to have an internet connection, either wireless or through a computer with iTunes. When you choose Software Update you can only update to the latest version for your iPod Touch, iOS 6.1.6

CRC Error in OBI 11 for Windows Disk2
Downloaded all 4 zips, 3 of 4 fine , disk2 reports CRC error, unzipped with 7-zip and WinRAR, both same error. It unzips though, but running the Installer results in CRC error too a long way into the install. Downloaded from OTN twice, same error. I
