Restoring old Bookmarks - after structural changes

Hi all,
Is there any way of reflecting/restoring the 'old' bookmarks with the new elements? We have thousends of defined bookmarks and scared that they may all have to be recreated to see the new fields after few additions and deletions to the web reports?
Thanks for your time.
Regards,
Hari

Hi:
As far as the changes do not remove any of the previously existing fields, I don't think you'll have any problem. Either transporting or reloading your data.
If you wana be safe, just create a copy of the ODS, transport it to QA. Then make the changes in Dev, tansport and check results.
But, again, I think you'll be just fine.
Regards,
Luis

how to restore safari bookmarks after ios. update

The only way is to restore from a useful backup, if you have one.
If you sync the iPad to iTunes and use Time Machine regularly, you would likely have the appropriate backup to restore from. In that case:
Restore the iPad backup set from Time Machine from a date before you overwrote the bookmarks. The location of the backup is ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ (you can get to it by pressing Cmd+Shift+G in the Finder and entering this path).
Connect the iPad, run iTunes and restore from the backup.
If you use iCloud Backup, then you can restore from iCloud and choose which date's backup you'd like to restore from. You can check if you're using iCloud Backup by opening the Settings app on the iPad, then going to the iCloud submenu and looking at the status right below "Storage & Backup", where it would say "iCloud Backup is off." (or "iCloud Backup is on.", as the case may be).
In any case, keep in mind that restoring from a backup means you lose all application data changes after the date of the backup.

  • Restoring Old Bookmarks on TenFourFox

I backed up my applications and data, including TenFourFox on my Mac G-4 PPS running OS 105.8 (Tiger).
I then installed a new OS and restored backed up applications. Where on my Mac files are my old bookmarks? What is that file called?

Found the specific file on the backup HD. For a manual restoration of old bookmarks. the path is User>username>Library>ApplicationSupport>Firefox>????>Bookmarks.

  • How do you restore Firefox Bookmarks after an OS overlay for Windows2000?

Second time system has been crashed by power interruption. First time, the OS overlay "fix" solved the problem and everything was still there regarding bookmarks when the Firefox browser was reinstalled. This time, the OS overlay looks like it swiped everything on Firefox. The folders are still on the hard drive but now I have a Firefox and a Firefox II folders but only one active profile that matches what the articles say I would find. The one "places. sqlite" file I can see from troubleshooting is 10 MB big...that's got to be the old bookmarks, so how do I make it active in this latest copy of Firefox that had to be re-installed again from the actual Mozilla website?

I'm not certain what it was as it wasn't really a system restore nor was it a legitimate reformatting process. It seemed to delete everything except emergency backing up of some files that I was allowed to select. I could see the file names and locations but while halfway, I accidentally started the process halfway and it started the process. I could've turned it off but I knew better than to turn off a computer in a vulnerable state. Better to get some data and limit the mistakes.
It wasn't really a recovery, the computer was going into the blue screen and wouldn't boot into the start up menus, etc so I'm lucky that I was able to salvage most of the files with the built in emergency backup. I'm lucky because the last time I had another computer that died and I couldn't salvage a single file and there were thousands of files and bookmarks on it!
A good lesson learned, always backup and be ready to expect the unexpected! I tried the recuva program and it wasn't that thorough and I couldn't find my files. Thanks!

  • How to install old bookmarks after formating PC but I didn't back up anything?

I just reformatted my laptop without back up any Bookmarks.
After formatting & installing Firefox, I realize that none of my Bookmarks are at Firefox.
Please let me know any possible way to install back my old bookmarks as some are very important to me as don't know where to find back.

Ok so it's evident you don't want help here, so here's the answer. If you didn't backup Firefox, then you lost all your Firefox bookmarks. I tried to ask you if you made any other backups that possibly included Firefox's data, but you refused to answer. So I'm assuming you didn't, which means, your Firefox data is gone. Sorry. You should have backed it up.

  • Maybe this question has been found already, but I have yet to find the answer. How can I restore my bookmarks after it has been deleted from my 'bookmarkbackups' folder?

So it has been a couple months now since I last cleaned up my bookmarks toolbar. And I could remember a couple of bookmarks tabs I wish I did not delete. I found some articles saying I could try restoring previous versions of my bookmarks from the dates of recent system restore points. But the earliest date I found was of only last week's. I've checked everywhere in my Firefox profile for anything that I could restore to date back into that time, but they too only tracked back as early as last week. I believe the automatic backups Firefox had made during that time has now long been deleted from the system in order to make room for my most current ones. How am I going to be able to retrieve those bookmarks when their aren't any backups available now to restore from?

If you do not have backups of your bookmarks, either in the bookmarkbackups folder or saved elsewhere, then you can't restore your bookmarks.

  • Restore Desktop Icons after Resolution Change

I often give talks using a projector. The projector has a lower resolution than my display. This causes my desktop icons to pile up in a jumble. Worse, when I return to the standard resolution after the talk, my desktop is still in a mess!
I seem to recall earlier versions of Tiger/Leopard could remember the locations of the icons and restore them after switching back to the native resolution.
Is there a solution for this? Possibly I have a preference set wrong so that the restore does not take place?
Sorry if this is already answered but I didn't see it come up searching the forums.

I never tried it, but if you have one Space for your presentations and another for your usual work, will the unseen desktop still get the icons "mangled?" I would think the resolution change would only apply to the Space that you are using. Maybe not.
Consider this, then - create another user just for the presentations. My rhetoric question would be, would the icons of the original user still get "mangled" if you used the new account for the presentations?
If neither of these solutions work, then the alternative terminal solution would work. You would simple restore the original .DS_Store file. You could write a simple script to do that.
I'll follow your ideas shortly, thanks .. and they make a lot of sense.
BTW: are you a Nero Wolfe fan?
    Yes
I've got them all, I think, been reading them for over 20 years, and re-read them every couple of years or so.
I have the entire corpus, the A&E shows, including widescreen double-length European versions and all the OTR shows. Guess that makes me a fanatic
I also look for the "Pastiches" .. I've got 6 of Goldsborough's but haven't found others.
Nero Pastiches have not interested me, but I have many of those of Holmes' plus the Sacred Canon, the Brett TV series, almost every movie, the Russian series, OTR, etc.
Believe it or not, I learned a great deal of computer diagnosis from these stories. Their value greatly transcends their genre. You get to look past the obvious.

  • I cannot find my old bookmarks after moving my original c: drive to e: drive and installing a new c: drive. Please advise.

My old c: drive was becoming slow. I moved this drive as my backup e: drive (didn't delete any files) and installed a new c: drive. I can view and move all my files from this e: drive to the new c: drive. However, I have not been able to import my Firefox bookmarks. I have looked all over the hard drive and cannot locate them. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
The path to look for would '''E:\Users\???\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\***.default'''''', assuming that it hasn't been deleted and the old installation of Firefox was a normal installation. The bookmarks + history are stored in the '''places.sqlite''' file. The auto bookmarks backups are in the '''bookmarks''' folder. Please also see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder & Files]. The link also has information regarding other files which you may want to copy.

Did you remove the JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder as well?
It is better to try to recover a JSON backup because that is a text file and can easily be checked if the recovery succeeded.

  • Restoring old Iphone after upgrade

I just upgraded to 3GS and want to restore the details of the old iphone across to the new handset but during setup I received a message saying that this could not be done as the software was too old and that I would need to update the software first and then restore the old iphone to the new. The software is now up to date but I don't know how to go back and restore the old iphone. Can anyone help?
Just to be sure I haven't got it completely wrong, My calendar, contacts, notes, apps etc are all synced but my language settings and text messages and stock settings etc are not, these things are transferable, right? It is possible that restore facility only extends to certain things. Any help to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Phil. Actually what I am looking for is some advice on how to find the option for 'recreating' the old iphone on the new one. I already had the option once but had to update the software first, now that I have done that I don't know how to go back and do it.
    I really appreciate your help.

  • Renaming session restore backup doesn't work, how do I restore old session after a crash?

Computer crashed and Firefox didn't remember my session. It happened a couple weeks ago so I had looked up how to fix and I learned from my mistake and saved the sessionstore.bak file before restarting Firefox. I closed Firefox, deleted sessionstore.js and renamed .bak to js but on startup it still doesn't bring up the restore session. Restore previous on the history tab still greyed out, about:sessionrestore brings up no tabs. I even tried copying that same file and also naming copies as sessionstore-1 & 2. How do I get it to work?

You can try to restore a previous version of the sessionstore.js or sessionstore.bak file. You need to rename the .bak file to .js to make Firefox see that session.

  • Firefox Sync restores old bookmarks

I have Firefox Sync set up on multiple computers. I start one of the computers pretty rarely, maybe once every 2-3 weeks, and that messes up Firefox Sync. Suddenly all my other computers get old stuff from my "seldom-online" computer.
Is this a bug? Is there any way around this? I really like Sync, but if there is no way around this I think I have to disable Sync on that other computer.

Does anyone else have this problem?

  • Pages reverts document to old version after time change

Just went through the automatic change from Daylight Savings to EST and an hour or so afterward, I open a Pages document to find that the past four weeks of work had been lost.  This copy was saved on my internal Mac HD.  The iCloud version of the document contained only one sentence; a single save event from when it was first created.
Fortunately my Time Machine rode to the rescue, but this was very unsettling to lose that much work so easily.
I don't know if this was related to the auto time change from Daylight Savings screwing up the document's version control or merely coincidental.  I'd like to get an understanding of what happended here.  In the meantime, I've fired up my Vista VM and now working on the document in Word.
Pages is 09 v 4.2 (1008), the OS is 10.8.2 on an i7 8GB Mac.  Safari and Mail were the only other apps open at the time.  The document contains only text with no embbed objects.  Nothing unusal about the fonts either.  It is about as ordinary and simple a document as one can get.

    Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies. I was starting to wonder if it was just me having this issue. I'm saving to my work PC laptop (Lenovo), but has has this also on my Mac.
I've read about the network and external drives issue, but I've always avoided working anywhere else but my internal HDs. Not using graph tool but it's hard to narrow it down as I work on so many different projects at the same time. The latest file has been saved as something new and modified a couple of times (complex vector icons, but no shading/3D nor links). I do NOT have the "save compatible pdf"nor compression options enabled.
Other designers at work don't seem to have this issue, but they don't work with AI as often as myself, and mostly stick to the standard features.I would really like to figure this out as it's slowing me down and surely getting other people to wonder what I'm doing with my time (besides spending it here  ).
Is it possible Adobe is unaware of this problem???
