Restoring Old Calendar

I need help! For some reason iCal, Entourage 2008, and Leopard are not syncing properly. I keep getting double entries on iCal, which are then transfered to my iphone. Last night I deleted the Entourage folder out of iCal, since I thought it wasn't fully synced. Well, it ended up erasing my entire Entourage/exchange calendar.
I still have the calendar (including dupes) on my iphone. Is there a way I can restore the iphone calendar back into iCal/Entourage? Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Juan

I just experienced the same problem. Some calendar events were in iCal/Entourage 30 times. I noticed I had 2 entourage folders in ical, so I deleted them, and it deleted all my appointment from entourage. Everything is still in my iPhone, but I'm afraid that if I try to sync it I will lose everything!
I'm running Leopard, but for some reason time machine wasn't seeing my external drive, so no backups for the last day or so. Am I up the creek????
Please help.

  • Restoring iCal calendars after disk crash

OK, I haven't found this on any discussions I've read so far.
My disk died on my MacBook Pro on Wednesday. It's in the shop. Fortunately I had backed it up on the Saturday before. Now I am temporarily using my iMac. Both are (were) on Leopard.
My question is - what did Apple do to the calendar files!? Through Tiger, calendar files were .ics files, and they corresponded directly to my different calendars by name. When I went to Library/Calendars, some of those were there, but they were ones from long ago. However, there were all these .calendar folders there with an Event folder and a file called info.plist in each of them.
In the Events folders for all these are files named, for example, 00C6C072-2C48-4B99-B3A2-B3241655578A.ics, and these .ics files are the only ones iCal seems to want to import. But when I import them, they are single events, as far as I can tell and the name of the "calendar" in my Calendars list in iCal is, for example, 00C6C072-2C48-4B99-B3A2-B3241655578A. This, of course, isn't at all helpful in trying to restore old calendars - or new ones - by importing them. So, it seems to me that Import is useless in this situation or any other.
Has anyone got any info that can help me understand what they've done here and why (well, no one probably wants to know why), and how I get my calendars back?
Hopefully the tech fixing my MacBook Pro will be able to recover some data from the disk drive, and the old calendars will be among the data recovered, but even then, with this new system of saving calendars and events, how does one import calendars into the newly installed iCal?
I'm not looking forward to having to rebuild my calendars, but it's looking as if I may have to. So far, this design of iCal is not a better idea.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

Well I finally solved the problem. The confusion is in the wording.
Both iCal and Address Book have functions that work well to move calendars and contacts from one machine to the other.
    Menu\File\Back up Database.
    Menu\File\Revert to Database Backup.
Well I was scared of the Revert to Database Backup. It works. When you do so, you just point the program to the backup that you just made from the other machine, if it's what you are trying to accomplish.
I hope this might help you.
Maybe everybody knows how to do this and I am a slow brain - Leon.

  • How can I get my old calendar app restored

The new update changed my calendar and it is now HARDER to use. Is there a way to restore the old calendar? If not is there a calendar app that is similar to the old IPHONE calendar? I'm just about ready to leave apple for another phone becasue each change they make is not user friendly.

No, you cannot downgrade the software. However, you can take a look at apps like Week Cal, Fantastical, Tempo.

  • Can you archive old calendar items in Entourage so you don't run out of space on your Blackberry?

    Hi everyone,
I have a Sprint Pearl 8130 and I am syncing with PocketMac to Entourage 2004 on an iBook G4 running OS 10.3.
Most of my syncing issues are minor (for some reason, in contacts, work and home email addresses switch fields, but I can live with that) and I don't have too many complaints about PocketMac for now....
My question is - Does anyone know how to archive old calendar items so that my Blackberry doesn't run out of space? I have calendar items going back to the beginning of 2008.  I don't need past calendar items on my Blackberry, except for reoccurring items, like birthdays and such, and maybe a month's worth of old appointments just for reference.  My Blackberry has run out of space a couple of times and when it deletes the appointments from my Blackberry, syncing wants to either delete from the Mac or restore to the Blackberry.  I know you can do this with a Palm and their Palm software, since I used to have one and I was able to archive items older than a week.  Then you would be able to access them in a separate archive profile.
I have searched everywhere and the closest thing I can find is to purchase Missing Sync and set to match my sync date range.  https://support.markspace.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=327.  But that doesn't really solve my issue of running out of space on my Blackberry.  The other thing that I could think of is to export the calendar items into a .rge file, then delete the calendar items from there, sync, and have PocketMac remove items from my Blackberry, but it would be a pain to easily access old calendar items.
I appreciate any thoughts, ideas and especially solutions!

I have the exact opposite issue you mentioned
my client wants his archived calender items to be synched to his 8830 world wide ed.
he is running RIM software (DesktopManager) v 6.4
    BES 2007
current issue is that his archived old calendars are not synchronizing to his handheld; we tried to force his PC to synch those items manually through cable, which didn't help, since our BES policy force waireless synch policy to the device and wireless synch never can see the archived items files
I think if you can set the option on your device so it turns on the calendar wireless synch, and also make sure MAC does not select archive to synch
    Calendar > Options > General settings or /Wireless synch set to ON;
if you running BES set Calendar Wireless synch off

If you erase the hard disk and you install a new Mac OS X copy, Time Machine will start a new backup and will stop using all backups you made in the past.
One option you have is to reinstall Mac OS X and restore a Time Machine backup, but restoring only some files: for example, instead of restoring everything, restore only your user files, and not your applications, so you will have more free space. Also, doing this, Time Machine will continue backing up to your old backup, because Time Machine will detect that you have "the same computer with the same files and the same Mac OS X version", but it's not.
If you have more questions about Time Machine, see this site > http://pondini.org

  • How do I retrieve my old calendar and lists from my iPad now that I've updated it?

How do I retrieve my old calendar and lists from my iPad now that I've updated it?

You're almost there. When you look in that Profiles folder, you should see one or more folders with semi-randomized names. The most recent one probably is your last active profile.
You have a lot of options for how to recover:
    * Restore last bookmarks backup ([[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]])
    * Manually copy over saved password files to your currently active profile folder ([[Recovering important data from an old profile]])
    * Attempt a complete "transplant" of your old settings folder to your new installation of Firefox (e.g., this thread: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/965036 how to install and migrate info to a new laptop with Win 8])

  • Restore MobileMe calendars from Time Machine

The new MobileMe Calendar  and Time Machine don't play nice together. This Apple Tech Note says:
'Important: Do not rely on traditional methods for backing up calendar data, such as exporting the iCal database, Time Machine, MobileMe Backup, or iTunes backups of iOS devices. Any changes to the data in the cloud will be more up-to-date than data in those backups and override a restore done from those backups.'
So if you accidentally delete your calendars,  they are deleted on MobileMe: you restore the cached versions from TM, and MobileMe promptly brings them up to date by deleting them again.
However it is possible to restore from Time Machine by following the following steps:
Turn off your internet connection. Make sure that it really is completely off.
Restore from Time Machine. This should restore your calendars to list under your MobileMe username.
Now carry out this process with each calendar:
Select a calendar listed under your MobileMe login name.
From the File menu choose Export...>Export. An .ics file will be saved at your designated destination.
Create a new calendar with the same name as the one you've just exported from, choosing 'On My Mac'.
From the File menu choose Import... Select the .ics file and choose to import it into the calendar you just created (make sure you don't import it into the MobileMe version).
Now your calendars are listed under 'On My Mac' as well as under your MobileMe login name.
Reconnect to the internet. Your MobileMe calendars will disappear as before. Now carry out the following process with each of the 'On My Mac' calendars:
Select your 'On My Mac' calendar. From the File menu choose 'Export...' then 'Export...'; from the sub-menu. This will create an .ics file at the location chosen in the Export dialog.
From the File menu choose 'New Calendar' then your MobileMe login name in the sub menu.
A new calendar called 'Untitled' will appear in your sidebar under your MobileMe login name. Change its name to that of the calendar you exported.
From the File menu choose 'Import...' then 'Import...' from the sub-menu. A navigation pane will open: navigate to and choose your exported .ics file.
iCal will ask you where to import this to. Click the drop-down menu and select the MobileMe version of your calendar (make sure not to choose the 'On My Mac' version). Import.
Your calendar contents will appear in the MobileMe version of the calendar but this may take some time. You need to leave iCal running until the rotating icon at the top of the sidebar disappears.
You can now delete the 'On My Mac' version of the calendar (control-click it in the sidebar list and choose 'Delete').
You should back up your calendars periodically by exporting the .ics files as in step 1 above and keeping them safely.

    Kevin,
Can I use Time Machine to go back and restore my old calendars so I can find that data that I lost!
You may be able to find the individual events in Time Machine, but depending upon the number of "Files" in the "Events" folder, they may be difficult to identify.
I don't want to replace the information in my Calendars, only look back at some old ones!
The data will be located in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars folder, which (depending upon the number of calendars) will have corresponding folders with alpha/numeric names for each one of your calendars. Open the alpha/numeric folders and you will find an Info.plist file and an "Events" folder. You can use Text Edit to open the plist file, on your current calendars which will help you to identify/narrow down the correct calendar. The "Events" folder will contain separate event files for each event with icons that display the date of the event. It will help if you know the date of your lost event(s).
Use Time Machine to recover the individual event. If/when you find the event(s) restore to your Desktop, double click the event and import it into iCal.
Also, I did a Backup in iCal. Where are those files stored?
If you did a backup using iCal, and do not remember where you specified for the backup, use Spotlight to identify where the backup file was placed. Use .icbu for the search term.
    Good Luck.
    ;~)

  • Old calendar entries have disappeared

Hi. I have a dreadful memory so use my calendar rather like a diary, writing entries each day of things that have happened. My calendar has deleted all entries older than around 40 days. Can you please help me restore old entries and stop current ones from being deleted. Many thanks - and best wishes. Sue x

Connect your iPhone to your computer. When iTunes is launched, click your phone's entry under "Devices" then click the "Info" tab. Under "Calendars", uncheck the box next to "Do not sync events older than X days".

  • Restoring lost calendar using TM with new MobileMe calendar sync enabled

I have several Macs set to sync my calendars using the new MobileMe calendar.
I accidentally deleted an entire calendar, and it has now been deleted from all computers as well as MobileMe.
I have a Time Machine backup of one of the computers.
Can I simply restore ~/Library/Calendars from the TM backup and have everything sync through MobileMe properly again?
I know the procedure for backing up calendars has changed for people using the new MM calendar, and am afraid that change may also break the old TM restore procedure for iCal...

BusyMac has all the info you need about this and it isn't great news.

  • How can I remove old calendar names from the iTunes sync list?

I gave my calendars new names as part of reducing the total number of calendars in my iCal, and now iTunes still lists the old calendar names as well as the new ones in its "selected calendars" list, even though these names are no longer present in my iCal nor on my iPod Touch. How can I remove the old calendar names?

The "genius" folks at the Apple Store lived up to their names. The key was to reset the iSync history in the iSync Preferences.

how can i restore old backup without deleting my existing data. unfortunately i have deleted few of my old photos and restored them from my old backup. i got the deleted photos but lost my recent data and photos. how can i get those too.

You cannot. However, if your back up is through iTunes on your computer and you do an internet search for something like "iPhone BackUpExtractor", I believe there is software that will help you access the SQL database that is your back up. You may be able to pull out what you need.
Once you restore from a back up, any data that was on the phone is gone.
