Restoring old files to bb z10

Is there a way to get my latest back up file onto my z10 if my bb id is different from when i backed it up to when i restored it to factory settings? if anybody can help i would deeply appreciate it. i am mostly concerned with restoring my documents.

See the paragraph concerning deleting a BBID using information in the original email you received when you created the BBID. If you followed those directions, then according to the post, you should be able to create a new ID with the same username and email address and everything would transfer to the new ID. I don't know if that would then allow you to restore the old backup if you signed in with the new ID created with the old credentials.  Maybe.  However, if you simply deleted the ID, then for certain you are out of luck.
If you just deleted the ID then it is gone, doesn't exist anymore. If you created a new ID with the same username and password it will effectively be a different ID.

  • Having trouble restoring old files from an external Time Machine back-up to a new internal hard drive...HELP!

O.k. So my main hard drive died on my iMac and I had to replace it. I have my old system backed up on my external with Time Machine. How do I access it to get my old files back on my new hard drive? I have read multiple forums and I have yet to find a solution. I was told that when I first turn the computer on and get to the third screen, it would ask me if I wanted to restore from a previous back-up. It did but it didn't show my external until I went through the set-up and got to my home screen. The drive showed then. It also asked to install updates...and I did. So everything is up to date. I have not turned time machine on yet because I'm affraid that if I do, it will erase my old back-up on my external. I tried using the Migration Assistant in Utilities and all I get is the spinning wheel when I tried to get that to work. So now I am here asking for help. I'm not very hopeful that I'm going to be able to get all of my old files back...  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the video link. I did it pretty much exactly the way the young man explained. The one thing I didn't do was click "customize" as he does and unclick the multiple language support and he also clicks "rosetta" to support older programs. I wonder if that's the issue? The guys at Macmall told me that I would need to update the o.s. before I restored. I did that originally but have since (as mentioned before) erased the main drive. I noticed that when he does his install, his external drive does not show up on the list in which you want to install the o.s. on... should I unplug my external? I'm just trying to look at ever detail. I know the recovery file is there. The one thing it (the external) did say before I started posting here was "in progress". I'm not sure what that means? I promise I'm not an idiot. I consider myself an above average user. I usually help other that have issues... but I've yet to restore from a Time Machine back-up and I'm looking forward to learning how to do it.... the right way. I appreciate all of the advice. I have some pretty important files on my external back-up. I am really hoping that this is possible. I'm beginning to think the external is where the issue lies. The "in progress" next to the file name concerns me. I know there's a lot of data on the drive because it's nearly half full. So there's stuff there....

1-You didn't give us many details on when/why it is failing to work.
2-First ,have you turned on File History and set it to use the external disk that has your files?
3-Are you selecting from the left side _ "Restore Personal Files" ?

  • System Disk Name Change - Restore Old Files?

The name of a friend's main system disk was accidentally changed some time ago. The backup sets from both the old name and new name are still in TM under the same computer name. When we look at the backup sets they appears as (the leading dots are just to show the folder hierarchy since consecutive spaces are deleted):
    Backup.backupsdb
    ..computer_name
    ....2009-01-01-timecode
    ......Macintosh\ HD
    ....2009-06-01-timecode
    ......New\ Disk\ Name
When we go in to TM to restore, we can see the backup sets that match the current disk name but not the ones with the old disk name.
How can we go about restoring files that existed when the disk had the old name? Selecting "Browse Other TM Disks" does not show the backup sets with the old disk name.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

OK, here is the whole story as I understand it (this is a friend's iMac).
The drive was originally named "Machintosh HD". There are backup sets going back to August, 2008 where the only folder under the date folder in Backups.backupdb is named "Machintosh HD".
In late August, 2008, the internal drive was renamed " `1| ". The only folder in the date folders in Backups.backupdb is named " `1| ".
Two weeks ago we installed a new, larger internal HD. At that time, we discovered the problem with the drive name and renamed it "Machintosh HD". We are now able to restore from any backup where the folder in the date folders in Backups.backupdb is named "Machintosh HD".
For the time period from late August, 2008 - August, 2009 TM greys out the dates for the backup sets. It will not allow us to restore from them.
Prior to renaming the " `1| " drive, we could restore from any backup set between late August, 2008 - August 2009. We were not able to restore from the backup sets prior to August, 2008 where the name was "Machintosh HD".
It appears that TM wants to see a directory that matches the internal drive name in order to allow a restore from it.
I'm sorry for the confusion on the names. I have been using Unix systems for years and automatically include a \ when I type a file or directory name that includes a space.

  • Installing a new harddrive and using time machine to restore old files

I want to replace the old 250 gig harddrive on my Macbook pro with a new 750 gig one I just purchased. I have made backups with time machine and have heard that after you install Snow leopard on the new drive you can just create your old computer with all the files back in place with the time machine backup you made from the previous drive. Im sure plenty of you have done this I am just wondering how it went and some tips of how to not mess this up. One question I have is do I need to do all the Snow Leopard updates for the system (I think my disc is 10.6.4) , or iTunes, quicktime etc, or will that all be resolved with the time machine restore. Same goes with iLife, should I install iLife first or will that come over with the time machine restore. I think im thinking into this too much but just not sure how this all works. Thanks for your help!

    Prepare your new drive:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    7. When completed quit DU and return to the installer. You will have an option appear to restore from a TM backup. You can select that option or you can complete the installation of OS X. Upon completion of the Setup Assistant you can opt to restore from an external drive or a TM backup.
Be sure your TM backup drive is connected and powered up. If all else fails you can always finish the installation and the reboot, then restore from your TM backup using Migration Assistant.

  • After system restore, old files taking up too much space on TM drive...

Time Machine just saved my *** this AM, some sort of a system error while I was repairing permissions, I used the System Restore on TM, and when it all came back, my TM drive is too full to continue using.
Is is safe to re-format the drive and start fresh?

This is because TM does a new full backup after a full restore.
Seems a bit weird, but you did replace everything on your disk, even though it was actually all the same stuff.
And yes, erase the TM drive/partition with Disk Utility (do NOT delete via the Finder), and start fresh.

  • Restoring OLD files from stolen laptop

    Hey,
I just got access to an old external hd, which contains a time machine backup I had of my laptop which got stolen. It has photos backed up from my iPhoto library I really want to get back.
The only details I can see online are for using time machine backups to install or set up your laptop, but I have been using mine for about 5 months now, and have new data I also want to preserve. Any advice on ripping photos from an old iPhoto library on time machine, and adding to the new one?
    Thanks for your help guys,
    Steven

    2. I buy the new Z10 but cannot restore the backup which is available at my PC (*.bbb) because it was made by BB desktop .
    3. With blackberry link software it does not show option to restore old BB phone backup
    Question
How to restore existing old backup from PC even the old device is not available !!!!!!

    Hey nalomar,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
BlackBerry Link can not restore BlackBerrry 7 or older backup files.  If the BlackBerry Torch smartphone was still working, you can migrate your data over by following these steps: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB33322
Let me know if you have any more questions.

  • Restore old fce files

Some years ago I used Final Cut Express (3.5.1) for video editing. For some reasons (too complicated, no further support from Apple?) I went back to iMovie and recently to Adobe Premiere. Now I have the problem that old files in fce format do not open anymore and  When I try the system askes for licence-data, which I don't have anymore after all those years. Is there a way to restore or convert these files to mp4 or any other format that can be handled by iMovie and/or Adobe Premiere? Also I am surpised that there is an acive FCE community, I thought Apple stopped supporting the application???

Hello, and welcome to the FCE Forum.   Apple Discussions are supported by users (volunteers) just like you.  This is not the Apple Support Organization.
While FCE was in fact discontinued back in June 2011, there are still many users making good use of the program.
When you say "files in fce format" exactly what do you mean?  Do you mean your FCE projects, or video clips you imported into FCE or finished videos you exported from FCE?   The projects themselves (files ending in .fcp) cannot be used by iMovie or other applications except for the (also discontinued) Final Cut Pro/Studio.
    However ...
Video clips that you imported into FCE are all QuickTime (QT) files and may be used by iMovie, QuickTime, Final Cut Pro X and  other editing apps that support QT/DV and-or QT/AIC.  Clips that you imported into FCE reside on your hard disk - they are not "inside" FCE.  As long as you still have the clip files you can reuse them.
Finished video that you exported from FCE may be different file types depending on how you exported your videos.  If they are self-contained QuickTime files then you can reuse them the same as clips you originally imported into FCE.  If you exported video as MPEG4 or H.264 (the most common non-QT export types), those files should be usable in iMovie, Final Cut Pro X and other editing apps.

  • Time machine cant restore my old files

I erased my hard-drive 2 days ago and i have been unable to restore my old files backed up with time machine. Every time i tried to restore the Address book or i Cal, it always says that i already have the same file and if i want to keep both or replace the old one. And if i do replace it, it seems to work but my Address book remain empty.
When i go through my backed files with the time machine machine, i can see some of my old data but i just dont how to restore them. Can anybody tell the right way of restoring the i Cal and the address book??
    thanks

I had something simlar and discovered that the permissions on my backup disk we're completely and remarkably (in that the new owner or the entire backup was a non-administrator user on my system) changed.
My symptoms were like yours: backups from before a certain date not highlighted in white (i.e. not available for browsing via Time Machine).
My restore became a nightmare of knife-and-fork work. Very disappointing.
    Please try this:
Browse your backup disk (i.e. the disk you pointed Tome Machine at) with Finder or Terminal. Down a couple of levels you'll come to a folder containing one subfolder for every backup taken. Go to one of the backups you cannot open via Time Machine (so any 12th Jan backup name will start with "2008-01-12...", and so forth).
Browse into the backup folder. The sub folders to open are:
    1. the name of your hard drive
    2. Users
In the ./Users folder there'll be a folder in there with your username. I f if, like mine, the permissions have been hosed then you'll be able to tell pretty easily.
If you're using Finder then do a Get Info on the "yourusername" folder and tell us what permissions are set. If you're using Terminal, do an ls -la on the same directory and report back.

  • I just had to restore my entire system. i cannot find some of the old files on time machine

i only wanted to restore a few files that i had on my time machine backup.  the problem is that i cannot find those files when i pull up the time machine.  help, please.

If they are truly old files that you deleted at some point in the past, then they may have been erased by Time Machine for more recent backups. In that case they would be gone.

  • Why are some of my old files on my mac after I do a complete restore?

Whenever I get a new Mac or I restore my old one some of my old files such as music photos and movies are on my new one.  I think it is auto saving some of my email attachments.  It seems a lot of the images where ones that I took or veiwed with my Ipod/iPhone.  Is there anyway to stop this?

If i deauthorize this PC can i reauthorize it after i do a complete restore thus saving that precious last authorization in case of an emergency?
    Yes.
Note that if and when you reach the maximum of five authorizations, you can (once per year) deauthorize all the systems. There will be at that time a button in your iTunes Store account information for performing that deauthorization. You could then authorize those systems you're using.
if i create a new i tunes account can i play the songs currently on my ipod and those purchased with the old account?
If you mean a new iTunes Store account, that account authorization would only be valid for content purchase through that account. It will have no effect on authorizations from your current iTunes Store account.
    Regards.

  • Weblogic config restores wrong old files on boot

    Hi,
I'm installing a new weblogic domain for an environment from a source env and once I configure everything in the config.xml and the surrounding domain config files I start the admin and everything is fine. The settings in the domain are correct.
Then I start one of the JVMs and during boot the old config.xml (from source env) appears along with its backups and uses the old config.xml.
    Why does that happen?
I tried deleting domain_bak in servers dir, I cleaned all JVM cache but the old files still get restored. I see them listed in domain_bak's file __deleted_files_index__ but only their names are there, nothing more.
    What to do??
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I understood that there is a managed server that is using the old config.xml; did you try deleting the managed server directory? I had a problem like this some years ago and I had to delete this directory (I had made a backup before) and then I started that managed server and a new directory was created with the new configuration.
    Best regards,
    Raúl

  • Restoring old tabs via a Carbonite sessionstore.js file

I had a Firefox crash this morning that, upon restart of Firefox, did not let me restore my previous tabs. I tried to restore (using the Windows 7 restore previous version function) a previous session from yesterday, but I don't think I went through the steps correctly. Then I realized I have a backup version from Carbonite available.
I downloaded it to my desktop. Would someone mind walking me through the steps of correctly restoring the file?
    Thanks very much.

Hi Crumbleey, Firefox will only look for sessionstore.js in the same location. Make sure Firefox is not running when you do the restore, or you can copy the file in by hand from wherever the restore is willing to place it.
