Restoring or Reinstalling deleted files

I accidently deleted some files, such as, KeyText.data, Body.data, and such.
Now my lingvo Universal in my Dictionary does not work and my spotlight crashes when I am typing for a search.
I tried using Pacifist to restore these files but it still does not work.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

I think they were files fro lingvo universal, which transalates languages the dictionary.
When I used Pacifist if found them on the instalation disk under the different languages that apple offers.
But here are the problems that I have right with my Mac.
1. When I use the option to see a definition of a word on the web with a shortcut, Dictionary crashes.
2. When typing in spotlight, spotlight crashes after about 3-4 letters.
I don't know if these problems are linked or just happened to occur at the same time.

Where is your back up? You should always maintain a back up of important info/music/pics for this very reason.

  • Re: Restoring deleted files/restoring originals

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could help me with restoring deleted files. I think I have someway or another managed to delete my original photos from iPhoto. Is there any way that I am able to restore these deleted files? If I haven't deleted them (who knows!) how do I restore my files to the original, as a lot of my photos in iPhoto are not opening. Also, I have 'lost' an iDVD project that I know that I have not deleted, but I cannot seem to find it anywhere.
    Thanks, Fiona

    Hi fiona,
what did you do that you think you might have deleted photos?
Did you rename any photos in the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder?
navigate to Pictures/iPhoto Library and go through the Year/Month/day folders and see if your photos are there. Take a look at the screenshot so you know where to look.
This is a view of how the iPhoto Library looks in the Finder.
It is organized by Year folders. Inside the Year folders are Month folders. Inside the Month folders are the days of the Month. Inside the day folders are the photos you took on that day. If you imported video clips and RAW files on that day they will be in an Originals folder. If you have edited any photo imported on that day, the original will be in that folder also.

  • Roaming User sync does not work and/or deleted files on desktop restored.

    Hello
We have a customer with MBP's and a Server 10.6. At the MBP is a local Admin Account configured and all the employees have roaming profiles.
Sometimes we have the problem that deleted files and folders at a Desktop will be restored after relogin AND it seems that some Adobe Products prevent syncing sometimes if files at Desktop opened.
Is there any solution for that?

    Same issue here.
I have BB 9700 and Yahoo! BIS account.  Worked like a charm until about a week ago.
It was even synchronizing my calendar and mail between BB and Outlook 2010 - never really understood how it managed to do that, but I was very pleased.
As of lately our telecom administrator spent hours on the phone with AT&T, Yahoo and RIM trying to resolve this problem.  I was told by RIM tech. support that I've got too many messages in the inbox (measly 5000 e-mails) and that BB stops synchronizing after about 800 messages in the inbox, because it is timing out with so many messages to go through.  Sounded like a total BS to me, but I still went ahead and cleaned up my Yahoo inbox and no luck, as I suspected.  I was also told by tech. support that it is due to my using Outlook 2010 Beta2, which is not supported, hence the issue - another ferry tale, IMHO.
Hopefully, RIM will be able to get us back on track - manually deleting 60 emails every day is extremely annoying.

  • Restored from Time Machine and now having problems when deleting files..

I recently had to restore from a Time Machine Backup on my Macbook Pro 7,1 (2.66Ghz, 8GB Ram) ... and now, I've noticed that when I delete files from my laptop, they're not going to the trash bin, they're just "gone" ... the trash bin stays empty.  Any ideas how to fix this?

Select the icon of your home folder in the sidebar of a Finder window, and open the Info window. In the Sharing & Permissions section, click the lock icon and authenticate. Delete all permssion entries except read & write access for you. From the action menu (gear icon), select "Apply to enclosed items." Close the Info window and try again.

  • How do I restore deleted file in numbers

Deleted file from ipad by accident, anyway to bring it back easily? Have not synced with itunes yet.

try the menu item "Edit > Undo ...":
If you have peformed too many actions since you deleted the file, then try restoring from a Time Machine Back up.  After that consider the menu item "File > Revert To...":
If you do not have a Time Machine back up YOU SHOULD GET ONE SET UP!
I have been very thankful more than once for having a good backup.

  • How to delete files from time machine volume

Before selling my old MacBook Pro, I had backed up all my data on to an external WD hard drive using Time Machine. I had since switched to a desktop but since I did not have any need for the MacBook Pro files at the time, I had put aside that WD hard drive. Recently, I wanted to clear some space on that external drive to make way for some of my present files. I drilled down in to Backups.backupdb and tried to delete files, but was met with the error "
An error occurred. The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -5000.) Insufficient access privileges for operation".
It did prompt me for a username and password before showing that message. I tried both my current user/pass as well as (what I remember to be) my old user/pass on the MacBook Pro. Both presented me with the same error message.
I also did try to mount the drive as Time Machine on my present system, and then try to enter Time Machine and delete it from there. However, clicking on "Enter Time Machine ... " does nothing.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Linc,
my back-up data is managed by Time Machine; the actual data is on a second internal Hard Drive with a capacity of 1TB - not partitioned. I am using Time Machine and have access to all data backed up since Mavericks Clean Install but not the data prior to this date.
When I open the 1TB drive in Finder I can see a folder "Backups.backupdb/Sigi's Mac Pro/ followed by many folders of backup dates going back to 2010-09-20-103441 and up to 2014-02-07-142414 all followed with folder Macintosh HD.  February 7th  2014 was the date of the clean install.
These Backups are followed by backup date folder 2014-02-08-075554 with a subfolder of MacPro-320GB (this is the name I assigned to my Boot Drive during formatting; I suspect I should have assigned the same name as before ie. Macintosh HD) and 2014-02-11 with a subfolder Macintosh HD, these are the ones I get access to by way of Time Machine > Restore.
Weird thing is on Febr 11 when I relised my possible mistake and renamed the Bootdrive back to what it was initially ie. Macintosh HD despite this I have access to all backup data since the Clean Install in both folders MacPro-320GB as well as Macintosh HD but not to any data prior to the Clean Install.
Is there something that Time Machine knows and prevents access or is it simply a matter of renaming the subfolder 2014-02-08-07554/MacPro-320GB to ........./Macintosh HD?
I like to restore selectively and not everything - It was hard work reinstalling apps that were supposed to be the troublemakers (ref my discussion on Maverick problems) but I now need to get onto data specific to some of these apps as well as other data I may have missed. Long story? Yes and sorry.

  • IPod could not be restored because the firmware file could not be found

Initial problem was no audio and skipping through songs at a rate of about 1 song per second.
Tried the 5 R's and that didn't help.
Installed iTunes 7 and then it wouldn't recognize the nano. Followed Apple's instructions when iPod not recognized, including uninstalling iTunes, uninstalling latent update installers, deleting the iTunes directory, clearing the recycle bin, deleting temp files, etc. Then reinstalled iTunes 7,
Plugged in my nano and Got the message, newer version of iPod software available, update software (version installed was 1.1.1 and newer version available was 1.2)? Clicked ok and that was the start of my troubles. That process failed and suggested that I restore to factory defaults (not exactly what I wanted to do, having to reload my songs, but went along).
Did a restore to factory settings and now get the message
The iPod could not be restored because the firmware file could not be found.
Anyone got any ideas how to update the firmware? I'm hopeful that a file can be downloaded to do this rather than sending in the nano to have it updated.
    <opinion on>
After an hour of updating software and a couple of hours of reading the forums looking for the answer, my eyes hurt, it's 2:30am, and I'm frustrated to the point of throwing this in the trash.
My kids have a shuffle and a mini and I've updated software on both with no problems before. If I realized I would have to become a system admin for iPods, I would never have invested.

  • Re-sizing photos from recovered deleted files....

    Hi all,
Recently I had the bad experience of a "Tech" deleting all my photos, documents, tunes etc, when he reinstalled the OS during a repair visit. Yeah, I know!
Anyway, I got the computer to Mac Medics and they were able to recover most or all of the deleted files. Yay...
While going through the photo files, I found, so far, most of the pictures that I cherished the most. But, they had been shrunk down to small 160x120kb pics.
All of these pics that I took were at least 1000kb or larger. Some had been reduced to just the faces and were of poor resolution.
I am wondering if there is any way to restore them to proper size? I looked at the "revert to original" option, but it is not highlighted on any of the photos.
Is there any tricks to restoring the recovered photos or am I .....
I have to tell you also, I do not like the new iphotos. I liked the photos on one screen that you could look at at scroll down.
    Thanks,
    Brian.

Sorry Brian, but they didn't recover your photos, they've recovered the thumbnails that iPhoto uses for display in the iPhoto Window.

No, in a word, there isn't. You cannot "revert" because these are now your "originals".
Is there any tricks to restoring the recovered photos or am I .....
You could ask them to scan that drive again and ask them to recover image files +only larger than 400kb+.
I have to tell you also, I do not like the new iphotos.
    That's iPhoto.

    Have you tried Photos view?

How do I clean up mail in my icloud?  I have already deleted old mail (from all my e-mail accounts) on all devices, and emptied the junk & deleted files, but it still shows that I am at max on my icloud. What do I do to free up space? (photos & apps do not take up that much room).  When I go to manage storage on any device & it will display how much room each program or app is using, it still shows that my e-mail is taking up the most room.  Is there a way to actually log on to the icloud server to manage what it stored there?  If so, how do I do it?  Also, on a related subject,  why does my mail not sync accross all devices?   ie. when I delete an email on one device, why do I still see it on all my other devices?  How can I change this?
I have an iphone5, ipad2, ipod 4th gen, ipod 3rd gen, all running on my same apple id - but I have a PC not a Mac home computer - is this part of the problem?  Looking to upgrade to a Mac sometime this year...
    Thank-you for the help!

I do have the Time Capsule and spoke to Apple Care here in Sydney about it yesterday.  They told me my mail is not backed up there unless I create a special folder. I just tried ringing them again but Apple Care is closed today...
Mail is backed up automatically. If you make backups automatically, open Mail application and then, open the Time Machine app (in /Applications/Utilities). You will access to the Time Machine interface, and you will be able to see all your mails of all the backups you have, and you will be able to restore them. It means that your mails are backed up onto the Time Capsule

  • How to delete file names from Adobe Reader list

How can I delete file names from the Adobe Reader list?  I have deleted the file & it's empty, but deleted file names remain in my list & it's very annoying.  I can't seem to find an option anywhere to delete the file names.

Thanks for the answer, I will try this & post my results with this method.  I have set the amount to zero, & it seems if I want to put back valid files into my list I first need to find them in another file in my pc, such as documents, open them in Adobe Reader, & then then they will reappear in the Adobe Reader list.  Is this correct?  Thank you!
This seems to be the case, you need to restore each file you want in your list one by one by accessing them elsewhere on your pc, & then you must open them with Adobe Reader to have files reappear in your Adobe Reader list.  However, this seems to be a tedious process if you only want to delete one obsolete file from your list by first emptying the list & rebuilding it file by file.  It works, but I'm wondering if there is a more sensible & efficient way to do this?
