Restoring Oracle 11g backup to 10g (or XE)

Is there a way to restore the Oracle 11g backup to 10g (or XE).
- impdp/expdp will be helpful for this exercise.
- or i have to use some other utility.
Please let me know.

h1. Using Different Releases and Versions of Export
Whenever you are moving data between different releases of the Oracle database, the following basic rules apply:
The Import utility and the database to which data is being imported (the target database) must be the same version.
The version of the Export utility must be equal to the earliest version of the source or target database.
For example, to create an export file for an import into a later release database, use a version of the Export utility that is equal to the source database. Conversely, to create an export file for an import into an earlier release database, use a version of the Export utility that is equal to the version of the target database.
In general, you can use the Export utility from any Oracle8 release to export from an Oracle9i server and create an Oracle8 export file. See Creating Oracle Release 8.0 Export Files from an Oracle9i Database.

  • Can we restore oracle 11g RMAN backups to 10g server

    Hi,
I have RMAN backups (full backup)of oracle 11g database. My server was suddenly crashed due to hardware failure.
We have another Oracle 10g server. Is it possible to restore RMAN backups of 11g database to Oracle 10g server???
    Thanks

I don't have 11g server ready with me. The other server running oracle 10g and I dont have rights to install oracle 11g on the 10g server. So I can not test the RESTORE/RECOVER commands.
If anyone had experience in the past, please let me know whether we can RESTORE RMAN backups of 11g database to oracle 10g server...
    Thanks

    Thanks,
-ZubairYou have to use 11G Clusterware , if you want to use 11g Database and you can use 10g Database as well.
(You can not use 10g Clusterware and 11g Clusterware on the same host...)
But you can use 10g Database and 11g Database on the same host, But you have to use 11G Clusterware.

  • Oracle 11g  Backup and Recovery

    Hi ,
Please let me know which is the best book for Backup and Recovery perferbable RMAN which also include Oracle 11G fundamentals for recovery .
Looking forwrad for your responsce ..
    Thanks

    rajeysh,
I do agree with you on the book and the online docs but nowadays i do think that the oracle online documentation could have wrong or misplaced information. So reading the online documentation along with a book that has some hands on experience parameters should be the best solution. Also you can support the knowledge by searching the internet.

    Dear 789393,
What you can possibly do is go to the amazon and search for RMAN. See the results and search web and comments about those specific books. You can purchase whichever you want that meets the criteria of yours.

  • Restore Oracle DB Backup on RAC with ASM on Standalone server

    Dear Experts,
We have our Production Enviornment on Linux as OS and Oracle DB on RAC and ASM. We are taking the backup through DB13 of Production system.
We want to rectify whether the above backup is restorable or not. For this, we want to restore the backup on Single Standalone system without RAC and ASM.
My questions is 1) Is it possible to restore database from RAC and ASM to normal Standalone server ?
                             2) If possible, can anyone let me know the challenges we could face during the same procedure.
    Looking forward for suggestions.
    Regards,
    KK

    Hi Ketul,
I suppose restoration can be done to standalone system using brtools.
    Refer steps in
SAP note 1627541 - BR*Tools support for Oracle ASM and Exadata/ODA
905359 - Using BR*Tools for Oracle RAC databases
    Hope this helps.

  • Oracle 11g database & OBIEE 10g user id case sensitivity

    Hi,
Previously we used to point OBIEE to 10g database and the following query used to return data. But now we have database upgraded to 11g R2. Is there a way to make the 11g R2 database case insensitive and make the following query return results? Here when EMP_LOGIN = upper(bmiller) query is working, but not when EMP_LOGIN = bmiller.
    select T32660.X_DISTRICT as c1,
    count(distinct case when T32385.OPTY_WID > 0 then T32385.OPTY_WID end ) as c2
    from
    W_POSITION_H T37785 /* Dim_W_POSITION_H */ ,
    W_POSITION_D T36585 /* Dim_W_POSITION_D */ ,
    W_EMPLOYEE_D T32660 /* Dim_W_EMPLOYEE_D */ ,
    W_OPTY_D T31547 /* Dim_W_OPTY_D */ ,
    W_ORG_D T31796,
    W_REVN_F T32385 /* Fact_W_REVN_F */
    where ( T32385.PR_TEAM_POS_WID = T36585.ROW_WID
    and T31547.ROW_WID = T32385.OPTY_WID
    and T31796.ROW_WID = T32385.PR_ACCNT_WID
    and T32385.PR_TEAM_EMP_WID = T32660.ROW_WID
    and T36585.ROW_WID = T37785.SUB_POSITION_WID
    and T37785.EMP_LOGIN = upper('bmiller')
    and T37785.EMP_LOGIN = 'bmiller' )
    group by T32660.X_DISTRICT
    order by c1
    Thanks
    MNRK

If this query was working in the old system, my assumption is that something was changing your session's NLS_COMP to Linguistic. If OBIEE isn't issuing that ALTER SESSION in a login script, the next most likely scenario would be a login trigger that was issuing the ALTER SESSION when the OBIEE user logged in. That trigger would have remained in place had you used the DBUA to upgrade. If you did an export and import, however, it's possible that you didn't export the login trigger.

  • Oracle 11g Case Insensitive Issue

    Hi,
For our .net framework 4.0 Application we need case insenstive search. So I have tried setting NLS_COMP=LINGUISTIC & NLS_SORT=BINARY_CI in environmental variable.. But this is not working. But when I tried firing trigger on each logon and setting NLS_COMP for each session.. It is working.. But because of performance reason we don't want to fire on trigger for each database logon.
Pls Let me know why it is not working setting environmental variable. We are using Oracle 11g client and 10g server and connecting from our .net application through ODP.NET.
    Regards,
    Raghu

Do you see the same behavior when connecting via SQLPlus after setting the environment variables? Is this an ODP.NET specific issue? If it's not specific to ODP, you'll probably get better insight by posting in one of the generic database forums.
With respect to ODP specific solutions, have you already checked out the OracleGlobalization class?

  • Backup on 10g, restore on 11g

    Hello,
What steps should be done (if possible) to restore on Oracle 11g a backup taken on Oracle 10g? I know that for minor version upgrades (10.2.0.2 to 10.2.0.3, for instance) after restore and recovery performed with RMAN, the instance must be upgraded/adapted to the new Oracle version. Is this kind of procedure appliable for major upgrades, like 10.2 towards 11.1, or should I upgrade the DB instance independently of the backup/restore procedure?
    Thank you,
    Adrian

Thank you Steven, the document seems to be exactly what I'm looking for!
The 11g version of the whitepaper is here: [http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/pdf/maa_wp_11g_upgradetts.pdf].
I'm going through it now, and one of the things I don't understand is the configuration of a physical standby database for the source DB on my target machine (where my target DB will eventually be hosted). The standby DB is in itself new to me, but it seems that I'm creating a copy of my source DB (10g) on my target machine (which will run an 11g instance), and then I'm using the TTS feature to move the data from the non-system tablespaces between the two instances on a machine. The benefits I see is that once my export (from the physical standby) is done, I don't have to move dumps and dbf's from one machine to another, and of course, my source DB will not face performance issues, as the export is done from the standby. On the other hand, it seems I will have to install the Oracle 10g software on my target machine too.
Another point I'm having troubles understanding is how will I manage both instances on the target machine, given that I want the same configuration (datafile location) on both the source and target machine.
The whitepaper states in phase 1 (Initial setup): The datafile location of the physical standby datafiles should be the final desired location for the target database datafiles. A bit further, in phase 2 (Prepare the Source and Target DB), when creating the target database with DBCA, I will also have the same datafiles in the same location as my standby.
    What am I missing here?
    Thanks again for your time
    Adrian

    3. Installed Java Glassfish Server 3.1.2.2 (ogs-3.1.2.2-windows.exe) (Java EE6 Compatible)
    4. Run Restore, Succefully Restored. (the Backup is taken from System "A" that worked properly with Apex 4.2 before hardware crash.)

  • How to take a backup manually in oracle 11g express edition?

how to take a backup manually in oracle 11g express edition? i want to take backup of a database and want to restore later on on a different computer .

Stop database, and copy all files to another machine. That sounds to me to be the closest answer to the question posted. And perhaps the easiest solution.
Install XE on the "another machine", shut it down. Shutdown the source database. Copy the datafiles to the new host. Startup your "new" database, it will be an exact clone of the original.
To find out what files need to be copied, as system (or sysdba) run:
    select name from v$datafile;
    ... file1, file2 ...
    show parameter control
    ... control_files ... file1 ...
    alter database backup controlfile to trace [reset logs];
    show parameter diag;
... diagnostic_dest ... <drive:>|/diag_pathTo do a proper database clone its better to recreate the controlfile and reset the archive sequence number- leave out the controlfile copy part. In the diag_path location find the trace file under diag/rdbms/$ORACLE_SID/<db_name>/trace it should be the latest ora*.trc file.
The trace file has the commands to recreate the controlfile, which includes the datafiles and putting the tempfile back in place. If the datafiles are in a different location, i.e. in Windows going to a different drive, or you want do put datafiles in a different folder location, the create controlfile statement is the easiest time to get the file directories right.
If you add the "reset logs" qualifier (don't use the brackets!) you'll get just the reset logs version of the create controlfile statement, otherwise you'll get both NORESETLOGS and RESETLOGS versions of a create controlfile statement, run one or the other. Not both. Not the entire trace file, just the create controlfile, alter database open [reset logs], alter tablespace temp add tempfile ... bits. No recovery is needed for a database that is shutdown when datafiles get copied to a new location/host.

  • Migration using data pump Oracle 10g - Oracle 11g

    HI all,
    1)
Right now I`m using Oracle 11g. I have a plan to import data from Oracle 10g. I would like to know if its possible to import data which was exported by datapump on Oracle 10g ?
Should I convert somehow expdp output from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g format ?
    2)
Next question is. If I will use expdp to create dump of complete database. May I use *.dmp to import selected users ? Or only full database can be restored ?

Yes, you can import 10g dump into an 11g database.
Maybe you should take some time and read the section on datapump in the fine Oracle® [Database Utilities|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28319/dp_import.htm#i1007324] manual.

  • RMAN backup is getting failed after oracle 11g upgarde (11.2.0.2)

    Hi Basis Expert,
We have done oracle 11g ugrade (11.2.0.2) in our Dev BI system.
But after the upgrade the RMAN backup is failing. The backup use to work fine when we were on 10g (10.2.0.4).
Has anyone face this issue earlier.
    Appreciate your help.
    Regards,
    Anil Shenoy

    Hello Anil,
    Syntax is -
    ln -s /path/to/original/ /path/to/linkName
    Output will be -
    linkName --> original
In your case, 112_64 is the link name according to above SAP Note and 11202 is the original/physical path. So, the command should be -
    ln -s /oracle/<DBSID>/11202 /oracle/<DBSID>/112_64
And the Result should be, 112_64 --> 11202 (in short)
So, I think you should change the existing link, 11202->112_64
    Thanks

  • Oracle 10g reports migration to Oracle 11g migration

I have migrated oracle 10g reports to Oracle 11g reports and generated REP file. But when we execute REP file using RWRUN.EXE I am getting below error.

to avoid this I tried below work arround which was posted in "https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2365028" URL. but not success.
    1. Go to C:\Oracle\Middleware\asinst_1\config\FRComponent\frcommon\tools\admin
    2. Make a backup of the file 'cauprefs.ora'
    3. Open up the file in a text editor:
    --In the file, look for:
    Reports.PluggableDataSourceFactories =
    ("oracle.reports.plugin.datasource.xmlpds.XMLDataSourceFactory",
    "oracle.reports.plugin.datasource.jdbcpds.JDBCDataSourceFactory",
    "oracle.reports.plugin.datasource.textpds.TextDataSourceFactory")
    --Replace the value to: Reports.PluggableDataSourceFactories = ()
    4. Save the file and try running Reports Builder again. Data Model should open up without crashing.
Could you please help me to resolve this issue.

When I use rwrun.bat report is not invoking i use below command line. I am executing rwrun.bat from C:\Oracle\Middleware\asinst_1\config\reports\bin path.
