Restoring original adjustments of a Mac Book Pro 13 last model

Good morning
I just bought a Mac Book pro 13 (last model) and I tried to use assistant migration to migrate everything from my old Mac Book (OS X LIon and updated), by ethernet connexion by cable, but the operation avorted twice. No interesting solution for the moment from the Apple Care telephone ahelp. They seem as bewildered as me.
I am looking for a solution in my old Mac, but  before going in the Old Mac to see what's going wrong (I had done, though, the necessary adjustment, like deactivation of all applications opening automatically, never deactivate hard drive, unlink my computer to Dropbox etc..) I want to  restore my new Mac Book Pro with its original features (without any trace of the precedent operation, or user accounts etc..)
SO: Is it better to format hard disk and restore original adjustments (as if I had just open the computer) or to use in Disk utilities the command "Reinstall Mac OS X and its application"?
I should think it is the first solution but I liked an advise from more clever folks than me.
Secondary question:
Could the problem be because my new Mac Pro had been configured in the Apple Store with the same user account than the one on my old Mac (and same Apple ID)?
Or is there other possibilities?
Thanks for your Help. I would'nt like to go the Apple Store and have it done for me, and die an idiot. (french expression)
Cathy

Doing a Clean re-install of Lion would not hurt as yes the failed MA may have placed certain thing on the system before it finally failed, I wouldn't know about that.
If you chose to do that look into creating a Lion Install USB thumb drive so you never have to download the Lion install files again and so you won't need a internet connection to re-install Lion.
IMHO it really isn't a time eater. IMHO it is the only way to have New computer without all the JUNK you have collected on the old one transfered over. It is the only way I setup a NEW computer. Buy the computer, Windows or Mac, Wipe the drive and reinstall the OS CLEAN. Install the programs I want on the new computer and then copy my personal files over.
Now there will be other opinions on this. Some of the Apple Fan Boys will state that OS X is so great that it never needs cleaning or a reinstall. That has not been my experience over the years of working on other peoples Macs.

The hard drive on my Mac Book Pro failed last week.  I just put a new Samsung SSD in this thing and had to load the Snow Leopard OS that came with the computer.  I had Mt. Lion on the old drive that I had purchased last year but no boot disc made.  I have made several attempts to get the Mt lion soft ware on the computer but the Apple store does not have it only mavericks but my Snow Leopard version is too old for it so I cant get it either.  How do I get something to run the software that I had on the old drive?

Unfortunately I lost my life and am trying to rebuild.  Isn't the technical era great.
    Backup, backup, backup
As a minimum, use 3-2-1 (or even more)
3 copies of your data (original copy counts as 1)
2 different backup utilities/storage formats (protects from bugs in the software)
1 copy off-site (protects against theft, fire, and natural disaster)
More backup copies are even better.
Backup disks are cheap compared to the lost of personal data that does not exist anywhere else.

I am a student and it took much time and money to buy that mac.please let me know if someone can help me replacing the logic board.its just two years old and as new as i bought. pls help

You're having the problems as discussed in this -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0 - thread. There is no scheme to replace the logic boards as there was for the 15" mid-2010 model. Depending on where you are and what consumer rights you may have under the laws of your country, Apple will likely want to replace the logic board (at a substantial cost). The best 'fix' for the problem at this time is to have the GPU BGA reballed back onto the logic board.
Take a look at the thread and see if you've the same problems - it only affects 15" and 17" 2011 models, not the 13" model. If you've the 13" model, you have a different problem.
    Good luck,

  • My mac book pro colors have turned brown instead of blue how do I get it back to its original state?, My mac book pro colors have turned brown instead of blue how do I get it back to its original state?

How do I turn the colors back to the original colors that came on the MacBook. Somehow all of my colors look to be disorganized for instance blue is gold etc. I am not sure how this happened but I really would like it fixed any suggestions?

Your first choice is to go to System Preferences>Displays>Color.  Make sure that your profile set is the appropriate one for the MacBook Pro, which should be "Color LCD".
I'm going to skip all of the normal suggestions of resetting this and that, because from what I've researched this in the past, and it appears you have an issue with either the graphics chip (low probability) or a worn cable causing one of the color channels to be bad or your LED screen has a problem.
In other words, it's probably hardware related.

  • How long does a mac book pro battery last?

Just want to know how long a MacBook Pro battery is supposed to last as in, what is the useful life expectancy?

MacBook Pros have used different battery technology since their introduction 5 years ago. Even screen size can affect battery life. Of course the big hitter is usage patterns, so what I get may be completely different from what you see.
The main factor is battery life is cycles count. YOU must be using the MBP on battery power a little every day even if you use it as a desktop machine. The battery must be used regularly of it will die an early death.
You should be doing 1-2 cycles a week. The concept of cycles is explained here:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/
Apple says a battery should retain 80 percent of it health (not charge) after 300 cycles. The batteries in my Late 2007 MBP have not been so gracious. The first one lasted 11 moths before leaking out at about 45 cycles; the second plummeted to only 50 percent health at 15 months and 60 cycles. Hopefully the newer models do better.
Probably the best explanation for battery life and health is this User-contributed tip:

  • Can I install a SATA SSD on my Mac Book Pro mid 2010 Model 7,1? OWC recommends a SATA 2 SSD to get get 3Gb/s transfer rate.

I have a mid 2010 MBP Model 7,1 and I would like to swap out the HDD for a SSD.  I was looking at replacing it with a Samsung EVO 840 (500Gb) SATA 3 SSD with 6Gb/s transfer rate.  But OWC recommends a SATA 2 with 3Gb/s transfer rate.  OWC recommends the SATA 2 because  my system will allow 3GB/s whereas with the SATA3 it will restrict it to 1Gb/s.

I was looking at the Corsair website and found a couple rams they
recommend. They both use 1.35V which I believe is the same voltage as my
current 2x2G Ram.  I have a local computer parts vendor that carries the
Corsair Rams for my MBP 13" but the voltage is listed at 1.5V.  Would they
still be compatible with my system?

  • Installing windows 7 on mac book pro late 2013

Installing Windows 7 on Mac Book Pro Late 2013
    Background
Mac Book Pro Late 2013 uses a USB 3.0 hub for the external ports, the keyboard and mouse devices.
Windows 7 does not have the drivers to support USB 3.0 ports so these must be integrated into the boot.wim and install.win files so that Win7 can be installed and used on a Mac. If these drivers are not integrated when win7 is booted up then the mouse and keyboard will not function.
    Requirements:
    Two USB Flash drives
    Access to a Mac computer
    Bootcamp Assistant application
Access to a Windows computer with windows 7 installed
Windows 7 install disk or ISO file
    WinUSB application
Windows Automated Installation Kit for Windows 7 (WAIK)
    Method
    On a Mac
First prepare a USB Flash drive by formatting it using disk util app, found in Application Utility folder, to FAT format this will store the Apple drivers that can be downloaded from Apple using BootCamp.
    This will be called USB1
Using Boot Camp Assistant select 'Download the latest windows support software from Apple'  to get the files from apple for win7 for your particular machine these will be downloaded and copied to the USB Flash drive called USB1.
    On a PC
Using a PC download a copy of WinUSB from  www.joshcellsoftwares.com this software can create a bootable USB with the win 7 files copied on to it.
Obtain a copy of Windows 7 either in DVD or ISO format.
Using WinUSB and the Win7 DVD create a second bootable USB Flash drive. This will be called USB 2.
    About DISM
DISM is a windows application that allows the editing of windows image files with the extension of WIM.
If DISM is not installed on the PC it can be downloaded from windows website.
To test to see if DISM is installed, open up a command prompt. Then type 'dism' without the quotes this will display the help description of DISM.
    Drivers
The apple drivers need to be added to the boot.wim file so that mouse and keyboard can function during the setup phase.
The apple drivers need to be added to the install.wim so that mouse and keyboard can function after the setup phase.
The video drivers are also added as it appears to cause problems if they are not included.
Create a directory structure like this:
    c:\appleboot\
    drvrs
    mount
    win7x64install
    win7x64boot
Create the following files in c:\appleboot\ with the following code:
    adddrivers.cmd
    color 0a
    dism /image:c:\appleboot\mount /add-driver /driver:c:\appleboot\drvrs /recurse
    ================================================================================ ==========
    mountboot.wim.cmd
    color 0a
    dism /mount-wim /wimfile:c:\appleboot\boot.wim /index:2 /mountdir:c:\appleboot\mount
    ================================================================================ ==========
    mountinstall.wim.cmd
    color 0a
    dism /mount-wim /wimfile:c:\appleboot\install.wim /index:4 /mountdir:c:\appleboot\mount
    ================================================================================ ==========
    unmountcommitfiles.cmd
    color 0a
    dism /unmount-wim /mountdir:c:\appleboot\mount /commit
    ================================================================================ ==========
Copy the following files into their respective directories:
Copy from USB 1 into drvrs the $WinPEDriver$ directory
Copy from USB 2 \sources\boot.wim to win7x64boot directory, this will store the original file
Copy from USB 2 \sources\install.wim to win7x64install directory, this will store the original file
Then copy boot.wim from win7x64boot directory to the c:\appleboot\ directory
Then copy install.wim from win7x64install directory to the c:\appleboot\ directory
Once all the copying is completed then run the following cmd files in this order:
    For boot.wim
mountboot.wim.cmd - this will mount the file for adding of drivers
adddrivers.cmd - this will add the apple drivers to the mounted boot.wim
unmountcommitfiles.cmd – this will commit the changes and unmount the boot.wim
    For install.wim
mountinstall.wim.cmd- this will mount the file for adding of drivers
adddrivers.cmd - this will add the apple drivers to the mounted install.wim
unmountcommitfiles.cmd – this will commit the changes and unmount the install.wim
Copy the files back to USB 2
Copy the boot.wim and install.wim files from c:\appleboot\ directory  to USB 2 sources directory and overwrite the files.
    BOOTABLE USB
You will now have a bootable USB Flash Drive that has the additional drivers needed to install Win7 on Mac Book Pro Late 2013.
    Mac Preparation
On your Mac using Disk Util reduce the size of the partition of Macintosh HD so that there is approx. 80GB free for the use of Win7.
Add a second partition, label it win7 and format it to FAT. This is so that win 7 setup can identify the correct partition.
    Installing Windows 7
Insert USB 2 into your Mac and reboot, whilst holding the option key down.
After reboot there will be three icons displayed one is the Mac operating system, the second is the recovery partition and the third is an orange icon indicating a bootable USB drive.
Select this and win7 setup application will proceed to boot up with the keyboard and mouse functioning.
Follow the prompts and when the drive selection appears select the win7 partition and format it to NTFS so that win7 can be installed. When windows setup reboots press and hold down the option key and select the windows partition so that setup can continue to install.
After completion of installation of win7 insert USB 1 with the additional apple drivers. Goto the bootcamp directory and click on setup.exe file this will install additional drivers needed to use Win7 on a Mac.
Once completed reboot your Mac and select windows to allow the drivers to update in windows.

Yes this is correct that the /index:4 refers to the ultimate version of windows in mountinstall.wim.cmd
    dism /mount-wim /wimfile:c:\appleboot\install.wim /index:4 /mountdir:c:\appleboot\mount
Users should do what applekryzzle suggested if you have a different version of windows. Thanks for the tip applekryzzle.
With regards to the Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller drivers they are the ones that are provided by apple via boot camp assistant.
These appear to work correctly and downloading as per instructions simplifies the procedure.
For those that are interesred the updated drivers can be found here https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22824&ProdId=346 7&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20%20*&DownloadType=Drivers
I have also seen in other discussions that some users get black screens i believe that it is the lack of video drivers which is included in the download from apple using boot camp assistant.
I'm certain that this works on Mac Book Pro Late 2013 models and i feel confident that this will work with other models.
I will appreciate any feedback if this works on other models.

  • Mac Book Pro crashes after 10.9.4 update

I have a relatively old Mac Book Pro (3 years)

I installed latest Mac OS X 10.9.4 - and started to have crashes that caused reboots. I had to turn the Safe Mode and it allows me to operate now.
I am getting a feeling that it's Graphics Card driver that is crashing:

      Built-In: Yes
Did anybody experience this problem? How to make sure that Mac is using proper card? I noticed that crashed contained Nvidia reference, but I don't have and Nvidia card.
    Any help will be appreciated.

If you search for these problems independent of 10.9.4 I suspect that you will find that many people were having this failure before the update. I certainly am not an expert and would not have weighed in had I not seen your comment regarding kernel panics, which are pretty rare in my experience.
Humor me as I speculate further: My problems got worse when the discrete graphics card heated up.  Perhaps 10.9.4 is causing it to be used more? I used ice packs and gfxcardstatus to keep mine from crashing long enough to do a Time Machine backup, but by the next day it wouldn't even boot up. So by all means try the combo update or whatever but a backup is definitely in order in case this amateur turns out to be right, since in my case time was of the essence.
