Restoring Original Track Info?

I know how to change the Genre/Grouping info for a track, but how would I go about restoring the original Genre per i-Tunes for an individual track? Is there something similar to the "get album artwork" or "get track name" options?
Thanks,
-b-

if you select a track and do a "Get CD track names", that should restore the original Gracenote track info for the track.

  • Need help restoring original track data in Match

Truly hope someone can offer advice! I know there are several threads about changes made to track data while Match is syncing don't stick, but I have a slightly different problem:
I upgraded TuneUp and without knowing it, TuneUp startet "fixing" my entire library by deleting many composers and ruining other carefully edited information
By the time I realized what was happening and shut it down, some 2.000 tracks has been wreaked havoc upon
I restored the library from Time Machine, but apparently Match had had time to sync so that the wrong edits were flushed back to my library
I have now tried several ways of fixing this:
Restoring the library and using one of Doug's scripts to add a space at the end of all track names to make "my version" the latest, but this process takes so long that it times out and by then Match has again ruined my track info
Turn off Match, restore the library, make changes to some track info for all tracks, and turn Match on again. Under this approach, Match seems to treat the cloud copy as the "original" even if I made changes to my local copy later
Restoring the library, allow Match to start syncing so that my local library is viewed as part of the Match set, then disconnect the internet connection and make track changes, turn on again and sync Match again. Still, the Match changes are flushed back to my local library
Unless there are other suggestions, I see no way out by let Match stay turned off... Anyone with better insight than me into how Match treats changes and which take priority that could help?

    Hi,
I'm not sure this will work. I use an app, no bearing on this issue, called Ivolume which adjust  the volume of the tracks. To get match to recognise volume change and that the file has been update, Ivolume adds information into comments box. My understanding is that this change allows latest file to replace the one in the cloud.
My thoughts are that you have matched turned off, restore library pre problems then add a comment for those tracks affected. Once done turn back on match. A long shot but worth considering.

  • Restoring Original Track Data

I recently edited the details of a large number of tracks and I want to restore the original data I.e. Artists Name instead of Various Artists as I had changed it to. I thought if I deleted the tracks from ITunes and re imported them this would restore the original track data but it doesn't seemed to have work. I also tried changing the location of the folder I was importing from to see if this would make any difference but it seems wherever I import these tracks from they retain the changed information and not the original...
    Anybody able to help???

It depends whether or not you have iTunes organise the files too. If so it will have renamed the files to match the new information, otherwise you can use a tagging tool to reset the tag from the file properties such as filename (Track No./Name), folder name (Album), parent folder name (Artist).

  • Any recovery for track info lost in restoration?

My prayer is to gain back track info for my desecrated music collection. It was once quite respectable. While traveling in Asia, Macbook was caught in endless cycle of 'logging in' - brought him to nearest authorized dealer and backed up files. Thousands of tracks were lost when they (a) could not be backed up, or (b) would not transfer from backup. Hundreds more were stripped of their track information. ITunes spent hours "processing gapless playback information" (whereby it regained some of the lost labels) before it froze once more. The shop responded by restoring the system -again- at which point several more albums were lost. Since then, iTunes is no longer "processing --" and the tracks remain unnamed, all jumbled together. The iTunes store helpfully responded to my request to replace purchased items by recommending that I backup files (thanks, apple). Is there any hope ..?

Without an application that provides for this being installed on your iPhone, and without a MobileMe account being accessed on your iPhone which provides for this, the answer is no.
In the U.S. in the event of an emergency - someone dialing 911 but unable to provide their location, the police can request cell tower location services via the carrier for the iPhone, but a carrier in the U.S. will only do this in the event of an emergency when requested by a proper authority.

Ah yes school boy error there out of frustration and discontent..
My issue is with music/apps/films etc not downloading from iTunes / App Store.
They initially fail and message is displayed stating unable to download / purchase at this time, yet if I retry it says I've already purchased (?) or alternatively I go to the purchased section and there they are waiting with the cloud symbol..
However some items get frozen in the download window and cannot be retried or deleted. Message appears stating to tap to retry, but even if you stole every bath and sink in the uk you'd still not have enough taps.
I post here as the iTunes guys are useless in there 'help' and have only advised posting here or phoning apple, at my expense, to explain a problem that could be rectified by forwarding my original email to a techie. However the tech team apparently don't have an email address as they're from ye olde Middle Ages..!
    Anyways I digress.
So I tried sync to pc, but instead of showing the file as ready to listen/use/view, the iCloud symbol shows and I'm back to square one as the item is unable to download..
At frustration station waiting for a train from pain...
All my software is up to date, and had all worked fine prior to the last big iOS update that resulted in all the changes in display and dismay.

  • Why doesn't my iTunes Library list any  track info.  for the CDs I burn?

I've bought a new PC and after setting up iTunes i began to copy my CD library back into my new iTunes library on my new computer.
But when I copy a CD now the only album information that copies is "track 1" "track 2" "track 3" etc. No song titles, no artist names, no album names. No album covers. All of this information was automatically copied from the same CDs on my old computer with a slightly older version of iTunes.
What's wrong? How can I fix this?

Are you reimporting the CDs themselves or are you copying over the files from the old computer? I assume the latter.
If you are copying over the old files from the old computer, what format where they imported as? My guess is that you used AIFF or WAV files? If so, that is the problem. WAV and AIFF files can not store info like artist, track title, etc. like you can with MP3 and AAC files. Instead the iTunes database file (the .itl file on a Windows machine) keeps track of that stuff. If you move the WAV or AIFF files, that information is lost/disconnected.
Try this and see if it works. Pick all the tracks from an album and then use the Get Track Info command. Since they were originally imported by iTunes, it may work and fetch the proper information.

  • Burned CD's display wrong track info and include profanity

My wife burned a cd for me about a week ago from her itunes library on a 2007 macbook. When I inserted it into my 2007 macbook pro the cd track info was completely different than what she burned. The music was write, just not the track info. We recently tried burning another cd to use at our church for pre-service music. When we imported that cd into the computer the track names and info included profanity in them. A bit embarrassing at that moment. Can someone help me figure out what would cause this issue?

When a CD is inserted into iTunes, the times of the tracks are analyzed and sent to a service called Gracenote, which attempts to match it with CDs in its database. You had the misfortune that your track pattern matched something different in Gracenote's DB. This is not common but it can occur, especially on CDs with only one or a small number of tracks.
To avoid the problem, play the CD in a boom-box instead of on your Macbook, so that nothing will display. If you prefer to use your Macbook, get the original files from your wife and play them directly in iTunes. Then you can be sure the correct titles will display.

  • How to restore original values to an iMacros demo file

Made mistake when I tried to edit one of the demo files for iMacros and would like to restore original demo file

    Gday again!
This is a supplementary message to my question concerning the drastic obscuring that happened after I said YES to change of settings.
I checked the Console. log and found this information. It might help me to get answer to my question. Here´s hoping!

  • Import loses (some) track info on eject

When I import from a CD and use get track info, iTunes does the right thing. However, upon ejecting the CD, I often lose some, although usually not all, of the track info. Usually it just loses the first track info (maybe it's the one I played?) Sometimes it loses all the track info (but I haven't played all of them!) I can restore the info by re-doing the get track info from the library listing, but this is really weird and almost certainly a bug. (I'm on 1.1.1.11 -- weirdly :-)

ps. This is definately a bug. I just tested it several times under various conditions and it at least consistently loses the first track info (defaulting it back to "Track 1"), and sometimes more than just that one.

  • CDDB track info

anyone out there know how i can get track names to songs that are already on my hard drive? the only way i know is to burn a copy and get it that way. any tips on going around this long process.
    thanks.

You can get track info on files that have already been imported into itunes. You don’t have to always do it from a CD. If the files were imported with itunes to begin with. Then all you have to do is select all of the tracks for that CD. And go to the "Advanced" menu and select "Get CD Track Names". It will ask if you want to get CDDB information for multiple items. Select "OK" and off you go. Itunes is going to treat the tracks like they are a CD.
I hope this helps. I was thrilled when originally I found this out.

  • How does a chart track info on more than one row

As you can see by the attached graphic, I haven't had a problem until the new year hit where I need the chart to continue tracking info on two rows of data (year 2007) that continue onto another two rows of data (year 2008), and so forth into future years. Is there a way to do this with the current table, or do I need to create another table from which to build a chart.

In the example above, I removed the actual date values and created Text Labels only. This is probably why the graph is showing weird labels. The problem with Text labels are their use in an X-Y (or Scatter Graph.) Numbers needs to have a Month format for date data types. Do we need to go further with your request? For continuous lines, yes, the data needs to be formatted that way. The X-Axis values are coming from one row of data and in your original example "Feb" is only "Feb" (not Feb-07 and Feb-08).
    Regards,
    Edit:
The dark colored cells result when the graph is selected. If you want to reformat the cells you can do so by changing the cell's Font and Background colors using Inspector.

  • Track Info Display

My iPod decided to stop displaying the track information all by itself. If album art exists, it displays in a large box. If there is no album art, it's just an empty box and nothing else. Please help me restore the track information. I would prefer that to album art, but it's okay of both display simultaneously. Thanks for your help.

    Hey Pod Man,
I saw your post and wasn't sure what the final solution was for you. I'm having a similar problem... not sure what I did today to screw it up. If I have album artwork, it displays with no tracking info. If there isn't album artwork, it's a blank box.
I'm praying you had a solution and that this thing didn't crap out on me after only 3 years!

  • Track info causing itunes freeze?!

i am running windows xp on thinkpad - no built-in cd so using duronic drive. i insert a cd and when try to get track info - itunes hangs (i changed preferences so it didn't seek automatically as that also caused hang) - any ideas? thanks

The iTunes Match service does not modify your existing ID3 tags to insert tags from the iTunes Store. You're tags are synced to the cloud and remain just as they were in your original library if you download the "matched" tracks from the cloud.

Is it possible to get track info for a file / album after it has been ripped, or will iTunes only do this on CD insertion?
