Restoring problem, Out of Free space

OK, here is my problem.
I am trying to restore from a backup and I get the following message:
iTunes could not restore the iPhone "iPhone" because the backup could not be saved on the computer.
Additionally my computer will say Low Disk Space:
You are running on very low disk space on C:......
The problem is when this first appeared I removed about 5GB worth of programs on my C drive and when I tried to restore the same problem again.
I think that maybe when you try to restore it starts to put the information on your computer before transferring to IPhone. If that is correct, how can I delete those restores that didn't go through? (I.e. I had over 5GB of space at the start of the restore process and now I have zero space.) I think part of the problem is I have tried to restore like 6 times thus, taking up more and more space.
Thanks in advance for the help, I am so frustrated right now. I tried looking up the answer myself online but had no luck.
Tim

AppleRunner1,
Right Click Start> Click Explore> Find your iTunes folder, this should contain a folder labeled previous iPhone Back-ups, erase what you need to. But be careful if you erase the wrong one you could lose alot of your most recent data i.e. contacts apps and music.
Hope this helps,
Ryan

  • Out of free space?

I had 400mb of free space. I added one new music album and wanted to sync. I get a message no photos are synced (the 20mb i had on it were gone) because i'm out of free space. After syncing, the info says i still have 365 mb of free space. I sync again, wanting to get my pictures back on the device, but get same message telling me not enough space. But i do have enough! What's wrong?

I think it's something to do with the recent 3.1 upgrade - did you download and install that? I haven't found a solution yet but it appears to be listing my entire music library as "other" now and so I can't use the space I've got. It's really weird.

  • After a restore still not enough free space to download itunes library

After several problems syncing my ipod/itunes (I had not used either in a long time), I downloaded the new version of itunes and still had problems. Then I restored my ipod through this new version of itunes and now it says I do not have enough free space to update my ipod and this bar located at the summary tab says I have 4gb available, which doesn't make sense to me since I thought I had 60gb (I really don't understand this stuff). Yet when I turn on my ipod there is absolutely nothing on it (since I restored it). I'm so confused...help!

    Which iPod do you have?

  • Restoring library, not enogh free space

Something inadvertently deleted my User Library while trying to redirect a new user to an old Admin user file on a separate partition.
I need to go back to using the original user on the original structure running osx 10.6.8
Fortunately there is a TimeMachine image from yesterday of the user folder, where it shows the "library" intact.
Unfortunately when I try to restore just that Library folder it says "The item “Library” can’t be copied because there isn’t enough free space."
There is plenty of space.  And I have attempted this 5 times. I have reset permissions and restryed etc.
the library looks like it has a HUGE amount of files.
Everything is gone as far as mail and all presets unless I can get this Library back.
    what to do...?

In Time Machine, try control - clicking on the file and see if it will allow you to restore the library to the Desktop. If it will, then drag it into your User folder.

  • My iphone will not let me restore because "not enough free space" is available , but i have zero pictures and barley any music, and maybe 4 apps. i have a 8GB iphone 4 , how do i fix this?

  • Problem reading available free space on HD

Second time this has happened this week. Computer begins to lag, so I run Disk Utility and repair prmissions. Then I verify the disc. See attached screenshot for the result. I've ran disk utility from startup and everything began to work normally until this morning. I attemped to verify disk and got the same result that the drive was corrupt. It seems the issue has something to do with determining the correct free space on the drive... any ideas? Thanks.

First, repairing permissions, althout hugely popular, is a waste of time unless you have a specific indication of a permission error involving system files, which you don't and probably never will.
Live verification of the startup volume in Disk Utility sometimes produces false errors. Boot from your recovery partition (command-R at startup), launch Disk Utility from the Recovery desktop, and run "Repair Disk" (not "Repair Permissions.") If you get the same error and it's repaired, repeat. Also select the icon of the internal drive above the volume icon and check the SMART status in the bottom of the window. If it's not "Verified," the drive has to be replaced immediately. If you get real directory errors more than once in quick succession, you have a hardware fault in the mass-storage subsystem, regardless of the SMART status.

  • Ipod out of free space

I have an ipod classic 30GB. Only 10 GB is music and it says the rest is "other". There is no "other" stuff but music.  I don't want another ipod. I do need a new battery but other than that how can I free up this "other" space?

If a Sync of your Classic with its iTunes Library doesn't remove most (but not all) of the Other, then you may need to perform a Restore.
A Restore is carried out using iTunes (there's an option for Restore on the Summary pane).
Be aware that a Restore will remove everything from your iPod and put back onto it only what is selected to copy to the iPod and is in your iTunes Library.

  • Problems with a free space on C: drive - Nokia N97

Greetings to everyoneMy phone tells me that his C: drive is full and ask me to delete some data from his. Thats nice, but when i accessing C: drive (of phone) via PC suite or file manager on the phone i can't see any huge files on it. But memory description tells me that there is 68 or something like that megabytes of messages on it. I has been setup email client with imap access to the server. Laster on i has found that he store all messages on C: drive and changed to Mass memory, but after i tell phone delete it in old place he didnt done it. The question - Why? and hw to manage it? I didnt found any solution, so i reseted phone totally (

You need to sort this out as low memory causes all sorts of other problems
the situation arises from two factors:
    1. The phone comes overloaded with junk installed onto C
    2. Because you won't yet know the phone's idiosyncrasies, you will do things to eat up C memory.
the (or at least my solution which has worked for at least three days - good going in n97 land) solution.
    1. Fantasise that Nolia will send you meaningful help by email
    2. Wake up
    3. Back up your user data (contacts, images, sounds etc) onto a card or off the phone.
    4. Hard reset if you're feeling brave and then Reformat E
    5. Re-install firmware
    6. Reformat E (just to be certain)
    7. Practice safe installation by making sure everything stores or saves to E
    8. You will need Y-browser from Dr.Jukka  (who I imagine fleeing through the Finnish night pursued by .....), any way: http://tinyurl.com/yuw58e
    9. Phone Info app to tell you how much memory
    10. Keep checking that messaging hasn't gone back to c again
there are other less radical and probably more sensible routes, I chose this to make sure nothing popped up to respawn problems

  • I'm out of "free space" for my iPhones & iPads

I need to buy more space, but I'm curious if I should just buy the smallest package, or if I need to estimate what my long term needs will be.  Basically, if I buy the smallest package & then need more space, will I get a credit when I have upgrade to the next level, or will I have to pay full price?

Though this is not specifically stated in the documentation, I would expect you to be charged for the upgrade on a pro rata basis - i.e. the fraction of the extra cost for the proportion remaining of your year's subscription.

  • I was wondering if I could save apps on my iCloud account. Because I ran out of free space on my iphone

You don't have to save the apps itself. Just delete them from your device to get some storage capacity back. You will be able to re-download all of your purchased apps again and free of charge.

  • ITunes library out of free space?

For some reason well beyond my understanding, iTunes is reporting that it needs over 37.5 GB to back up my 64GB iPad.  What does not make sense in all of this is that my hard drive has 1.4TB left.  So what gives?

Actually, further to my last reply, I just played a song that wasnt located on my computer any longer (I deleted the file but left it in iCloud when prompted by iTunes).  The song has an iCloud icon next to it.  I double clicked it and it started playing.  When I opened up the info windon on this song, the Location says "iCould".  So, that leads me to believe that indeed we can delete the files from our master computer, and, stream them or download them from iCloud!  How great is this?  Can anyone coroborate this?  Cheers,  Mark

  • Time Machine Restore "Not enough free space"

    My Problem:
    1) I backed up my iphoto library to a 1TB external HD
    2) Deleted my iphoto library from internal SSD
    3) iMovie cannot locate any of my movie files anymore therefore;
    4) I am required to use time machine to restore my iphoto library
    5) I have an abundance of free space on my internal SSD to do what time machine is built to do
    6) 130 GB free space on internal SSD. iPhoto requires 60 GB to restore
    7) NOT ENOUGH FREE SPACE TO RESTORE??
What i need from YOU (the expert out there):
    1) Either inform me how to relocate lost movie files for iMovie or
    2) Educate me on how to restore large files back to my internal SSD
What I have TRIED and DONE to NO avail:
    1) Emptied the "Trash" (apparently that was supposed to help)
    2) Create 2x the space required for the restore of iPhoto on my internal SSD (apparently sometimes it needs twice the memory, which by the way is bogus)
    3) Used my second backup of iPhoto, with a copy and paste function

    Brilliant.
Now if I could solve my iMovie video relocation problem I would be back in business. Definitly won't be able to always have my iPhoto complete library on my internal SSD.
    Thanks!

  • In restoring my mac mini to factory specs-what is considered "free space" as in the question of erasing free space.

When you go to do a factory restore what is erasing "free space?

Don't bother with that option, unless you are going to sell your computer and want to be sure that your data can't be recovered.
To be more specific it securely erases the unoccupied space of your hard drive, leaving the rest of your data intact.

You mean you have a PC keyboard? If that is the case the Command key translates to the key with the Windows flag.
The Alt key is the Option key on an Apple keyboard.

  • "Free Space" Partition disaster on new Mountain Lion iMac

    "Help"
I just received a new 27 inch iMac as a replacement for my old machine, which apparently disntegrated during warranty. In setting it up, I tried to create a small partition on the hard drive to run a Linux distro for testing purposes. It seems that with the non-system disc versions of the OS this has become more complex, and what I recall as an easy process turned into a disaster where 2 of the 3 TBs on the machine are locked out as "free space". I humbly retreat from any thoughts of working with partitions on this machine - I just want to clean it up and get it to a one-partition state for music and graphic design production. I have a backup. Here is a snapshot of this nightmare:
I also note that at the top level, where I am used to seeing "Hitachi" (or whomever makes the hard drive) it says Macintosh HD. That can't be right?
Here is a diskutil list report:

Any thoughts? restarting to Command-R seems like it would not address the partition problem at all. I suppose I could put it in target mode and use my laptop to wipe it, but I'm not sure that would address the partitions either. I am completely comfortable with removing the built-in system recovery area if necessary, as I made a system mount on a USB stick.
