  • Harvest selective contacts from an older itunes backup.

I would like to selectively capture some old(deleted) contacts from a May 2012 itunes backup ona Dell pc. The caveat is that if I would restore from May 2012 backup, I am afraid that I would lose the new contacts that I have added since May 2012. Does anyone have a solution to my dilemma?

You will lose all content since May 2012 if you restore that backup.  One of these should help: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=iphone+backup+extractor as an alternative.
You should also be syncing your contacts to an app on your computer or to iCloud, as described in the manual.

  • Water damaged so got new phone. Restore from iCloud? or Older iTunes backup?

Hi. My wife bricked her old iPhone 6 by water damage. We now have a new unactivated phone from Verizon. My question is...how should I restore her new phone? From her daily iCloud backup? Or from the older iTunes backup from a few months ago?
I've heard that iCloud restores don't typically restore everything like Photos, etc, so I'm wondering if I just try to restore from the older iTunes backup to get more of the photos back.
    Any help would be appreciated.

If the photos were in the Camera Roll then they will be in the iCloud backup.

new iPad air. set it as new device. asked in itunes to restore from previous older iPad backup. it's not restored\i'm asked to do it agagin and again, in loop
tried defining the iPad as new - the same problem. started it in recovery mode - the same

    The definition of insanity.....
Does it ask for the old device by name?  How do you know it isn't restored?   Have you completed setup and checked on the device?
Are you using the same iTunes account and Apple ID?
On your iTunes account, Open preferences, go to devices tab
Look in the box for a backup of your old device.    Is there a backup?
If there is no backup, you have nothing to restore.

  • Even though iOS cannot restore backups of newer devices, can it restore data from an older device using 7.1.2 to a newer device using iOS8

    Hi ,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you cannot use your Wi-Fi after the latest update to your iPhone 4s. I know you have already done some great troubleshooting by restoring with iTunes but the Wi-Fi becomes unavailable very quickly after you set it up. Go ahead and set up the iPhone so you can get into the Setting and then follow the steps provided in the attached article.
iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1559
         Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Restart your iOS device.
Make sure that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Make sure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.
If you complete all of these steps and still are not able to access the Wi-Fi, it may be necessary to follow the link at the bottom of the page and contact Apple Support.
    Have a great day,
    -Joe

  • Is there anyway to pull the data from an iPhone/iTunes backup file?

Is there anyway to pull the data from an iPhone/iTunes backup file so it can be read and imported into a DROID phone. Have a customer with a dead iPhone and they went out and purchased a DROID as a replacement and would like all their contacts to be imported into the DRIOD. Is there any software out there that can do this?

Here is one that can at least get at the data: iPhone Backup Extractor
There may well be others of better value. Google is your friend.
You'll probably need to do something with the data you can extract, like add it to Outlook, rather than being able to send it directly to the driod.

  • HT204136 Restoring from iCloud and iTunes backup used together

How would I restore my iPhone if I'm doing iCloud and iTunes backup together? The articles lists that as an option, but when it comes time to restore, can't you only pick one to restore from?

  • Restore from an old iTunes backup but preserve recent app data

I may need to restore from an iTunes backup that is several months ago, and I'm trying to figure out if there's any way to preserve the newer app data that gets synced to iTunes.  Obviously it's not an issue for apps that store data in the cloud, but for my apps that store data on the device, when I sync *after* restoring from an old backup, will the more recent app data that *presumably* is on my computer in iTunes overwrite the old app data now on the phone?

Yes, if you restore from backup all the old dats gets erased.

  • Restore iPhone from archived, time-stamped backup

    Hi all,
Long story, but after having the battery of my iPhone 5 replaced I now need to restore from an archived, time-stamped backup that iTunes created when I last restored my Phone.  Current iTunes version, IOS 8.1.3, up-to-date Windows Vista.
I can't figure out how to get iTunes to see that backup and let me use it ... only the current incremental backup is visible in iTunes.
Any help will be hugely appreciated!  TIA - John

Uninstalling & reinstalling iTunes won't have any benefit.
Assuming you haven't done it already go to Edit > Preferences > Devices and tick the box against Prevent iPod, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically.
How many folders are listed under %AppData%\Apple Computer?
How many backups under Edit > Preferences > Devices?
This is how my three backups are represented by three folders:
Assuming there are two folders, but only one backup listed I would close iTunes, copy the entire Backup folder to another location for security, then rename the folders so that the dated folder replaces the current one. In the example above I would probably add -Bad to the second folder name, and then remove -20141204-010305 from the third. When you restart iTunes it should be possible to restore the data from your older backup set.

  • How can I restore music from iPhone to iTunes Library?

iTunes deleted music (the proverbial !) in my iTunes library, however the music (I want it in the library) still plays on my iPhone. I have repeatedly trying synching the iPhone (the music is still playing ok on the 3GS) but whenever I click on the song in iTunes library, I get the ! and "cannot locate song". How do I get the music on my iPhone back onto the iTunes Library? I tried synching iPhone but still ! in iTunes. This just happened the other day when I opened iTunes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Len

If you have back up your music, you can restore from the backup.
To restore information from a backup, use one of the following methods after connecting your iOS device to the computer with which you normally sync:
Right-click (or Control-click) the device and choose Restore from Backup
If you have a new phone, you can connect to iTunes and it will prompt to restore from your backup
    Solution from Apple.com: ht1766
If you have no backup for your data on iPhone, iPhone data recovery software is your last shot! I used Wondershare iOS Data Recovery and it worked well, there are also other options available.

  • Restoring Photos from iCloud without the Backup

So the guys at the Apple Store thought my backup was corrupt and asked me to Factory Reset my phone and manual restore the data.
So far so good.  However, the phone is refusing to restore the photos.  It brings back a few hundred and then stops.
I have the pictures saved elsewhere because I'm deeply paranoid about such things, but I am missing something or is this really how iCloud works?  Because if that's the case it's practically worthless compared to local backups???

You're welcome.  You can still recover your photos though...  Here's the process:
Connect your phone to iTunes, right-click on the name of your phone on the left side (if using iTunes 11 first go to View>Show Sidebar) and select Back Up.  This will create a backup of your phone on your computer.
Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Contents and Settings.  This will erase the phone and bring your back to the setup screens again.
Go through the setup again, and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below), sign into the iCloud account where your backup is stored and select your backup to restore from.
When it's done restoring, import the photos to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
After confirming that your photos are saved to your computer, go back to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings again.
Go back through the setup screens again, and when given the option, this time choose Restore from iTunes Backup, connect your phone to your computer and restore the backup you made at step 1.
After restoring, if you want the recovered photos back on your phone, put them in a folder on your computer, then select the folder to sync to your phone on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and sync your phone.

  • How do I restore Reminders from a Time Machine backup?

    Hi,
For reasons which are long and unimportant I have to restore my mac from a time machine backup without being able/wanting to use a full migration assistant etc
I'm currently having issues with restoring my Reminders from the TimeMachine backup I made. I have manged to restore Notes, by going to Library --> Containers and restoring the "com.apple.notes" folder, but this process doesn't work with the similar folder in Containers ("com.apple.reminders").
Am I doing something wrong here? Where does Mountain Lion store the reminders data?
    Many thanks for any help

    OS  X Yosemite  version 10.10.1
I recently lost most of the contents of my Reminders. Although I can't be sure of the cause, I suspect a certain Mac cleaning utility.
I was able to restore my Reminders with the help of Apple Support, but the procedure was not straight forward as the ~/Library/Calendars folder “contains account data and generally speaking it will cause iCloud to activate even if deactivated and remove the data since the time stamp on the data is older than on iCloud”.
Here is the procedure that I followed:
    1. Disconnect from Internet
    2. Make a backup of your current ~/Library/Calendars folder
    Locate Calendars folder using Finder
List the folders in your Home folder
Click on Go  → Hold down alt key to see Library → Click on Library  → Click on Calendars
Copy the Calendars folder to Desktop
    3. Locate Calendars folder in Time Machine
    Locate Library folder using Finder
List the folders in your Home folder
Click on Go → Hold down alt key to see Library → Click on Library
    Enter Time Machine
Locate Library folder for the day/time you want to restore
    Click on Calendars folder
    4. Restore Calendars folder
Then Restart and check your Reminders to ensure that they are OK
    5. Make a local backup of your Reminders
Export each Reminders list to (say) Desktop
    Reminders → File → Export
    6. Reinstate previously saved Calendars folder
    Locate Library folder in Finder
Copy saved Calenders folder from Desktop into Library folder (over-writing previous Calendars folder)
    Restart
    7. Update Reminders from local backup
Import each Reminders list from Desktop
Reminders → File → Import → select backup file → select appropriate Reminders list
    8. Reconnect with Internet
