Restoring Sound

My husband and I connected my Mac Book to our Samsung HDTV. We connected a non-apple audio output to the MB audio outlet. No sound was output. Once I disconnected the audio plug the internal speakers do not appear in the list for the sound output menu from the systems preferences. I can only hear sound if I plug in my headphones. After I disconnect the head phones there is a red light from the MB Audio port. How can I restore sound to my MB from the built-in external speakers?

So If I can hear with my earphones plugged in and it makes the sound at start up do you still think it is defective?
Yes, do a search on this forum for "audio red light".
Also, the end of your headphones has a plug on it, not a jack. It can be more specifically called a jack plug but it is a plug, to tell what kind of plug it is. The hole in the side of your MacBook is an audio output jack. It also has an audio input jack on its side.
Many people use jack and plug incorrectly but it makes it very hard to understand what is being talked about. Try going to any online store that sells electronic hardware and you will find the proper definitions used by the industry.

    Hi
    In iMovie'11 (version 9.0.x)
    on top menu row - Apple/iMovie/File/Edit/Cut (Can vary dep. on language - in Swedish Apple/iMovie/Arkiv/Redigera/Klipp . . . )
down Cut menu - Slow playback/Raspid Playback/Re-play in Slow Motion and onvards
Here one can select the Pre-Set speeds
Are you familiar with getting 'inspector' to run?
No - but I guess that Double Click on clip/sequense or ctrl-Click on it might open it.

Everything in your project will be exported when you use the share menu.
If you want to export only half, I suggest that you
    1) Select the project in the Project Library.
    2) Click FILE/DUPLICATE PROJECT
    3) Give the duplicate a name, like Project A snippet.
    4) Open the duplicate project in the Project editor and delete the segments that you do not need.
    5) Then Share.
You mentioned surrounding a portion of the clip you were editing in Yellow. Once you do this, you should right-click and then select either DELETE SELECTION, TRIM TO SELECTION, or one of the other options available. That is a key tool in editing.
You mentioned MPEG Streamclip. I agree that MPEG Streamclip is a great tool.

  • How do I restore sound on this system?

I have a a Compaq Presario SR2037X that I got from a family member.  I have only the system itself, no driver discs or anything.  I put in a new HDD and graphics card, and I installed WIndows XP onto a clean drive.
Right off the bat, the system couldn't utilize any of the hardware on the board.  I found most of the drivers at this page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=33033...
and installed them to restore most functionality.
The sound drivers required an additional driver for "HD Audio," which I found elsewhere.  Yet when I then ran the driver-installer on that page for the audio, it unpacked a bunch of stuff and then closed, never even saying it was successfull in its installation.  I was left with four or five identically-named audio devices showing up as unknown devices in the device manager, plus a few other unrecognized audio componants.
I next installed the drivers for my graphics card, (which is by nvidia, same as all the built-in fixin's on the MoBo,) and the drivers it installed *seemed* to fix those audio drivers, as now the device manager recognizes them ad Nvidia audio devices.  (Once again, a list of four identically named devices in the device manager.)
However, I still have no sound.  When I open up the "sounds and audio devices"-properties in the control panel, it simply says "No audio device" and has all the controls greyed out.  Under the hardware tab it lists the nine sound controllers I can see in the device managerm and they all claim to be working properly.
I do not know where else to find proper drivers for this built-in sound card.  (I found several sites I've never heard of before that offer updated drivers, but I don't trust them.)  I do not know how to get the system to properly recognize and operate what it already has.  I do still have the original hard drive available, and could copy files from it if I had knowledge of what exact files are needed.  How do I get sound working on this system?

    Hi:
I recommend you reinstall XP and load the drivers from scratch using the links I have provided below.
Chipset.  Install first and reboot. That should also install the network card.
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_winxp_15.26.html
Next, install the graphics driver and reboot.
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-285.58-whql-driver.html
Audio driver.  Accept the agreement. Download and install the 6th one on the list (first one in green).
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownT...
If you installed an add on graphics card, you will need the drivers for that.  If your add on graphics card has HDMI out, it disabled your onboard audio.
The fix is simple. Go into your BIOS. Look for the onboard audio setting. Change it from Auto to Enabled. Save the setting there and again when you exit the BIOS.
You should now have onboard audio.

  • How to restore sound to exported avi? - Flash MX 2004 Pro

    Hi,
Over the last couple of days I have been tinkering around with Flash MX 2004 Pro. More specifically, I have been importing avi's to the library and then placing the embedded video into a movieclip so I could have more control over it. While in the library I could preview the video along with the sound. Exporting the video again in avi format it would render the sound. However, all of a sudden it will only preview the video and not the sound in the library and the same goes for when I export a video there is no sound. The strange thing is the sound is still present when I test the movie. I have tried reinstalling the program with no luck. Any ideas?
    Many thanks.

Well there is no answer to my question, but I did finally get the Adobe Media Encoder dialog box to come back again.
After uninstalling Premiere and QuickTime, then shutting down the computer, rebooting and logging on to the Admin account, shutting down again, rebooting again, logging in to the Admin account again ...
I then went in to the registry and removed all the Entries that had either of these in it:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\DVA\COM
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\DVA\FLASH
    and these as well
    C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTComponents\FLV.qtx
    C?\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTComponents\FLV.qtx
Rebooted the computer, logged back in to Admin.
I then re-installed QuickTime, and rebooted.
I then installed Premiere and the Adobe Media Encoder Flash dialog now shows up.
I'd be careful messy with the registry if you are trying to fix this type of problem.  Try uninstalling quicktime and premiere and do the above shutdown, reboot sequence a number of times before doing anything to the registry.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that Flash Website I've working on...

  • TS5150 How can I restore sound to video content streamed to my apple tv?  Used to have sound but now do not.

I have no sound when I stream videos to my apple tv.  That is a problem when trying to stream concerts or anything.  I downloaded the latest updates, but no change.  I used to be able to do this no problem.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I followed the apple support trouble shooting guidance  but it did not help any.

Check Sky's website - I believe they prevent the video streaming in the app (as do several other companies, possibly due to rights issues beyond logic).

  • HT1414 Restore sound

My sound does not work in my apps. What do I need to do...I started over multiple times.

Update iOS: settings > general > software update
    Power iPad off/on
Verify volume works, press buttons to adjust
Toggle silent/volume switch (next to volume buttons)
Test to see if it is one, some, or all apps
If its all apps, then reset iPad > hold down on/off and home button simultaneously...the ipad will power off/on, when you see the Apple logo release both buttons
    Test for audio

  • Hp g60 418ca, how to restore sound after installing windows 8.

I installed Windows 8 on hp g60 418ca.  I have tried all troubleshooters, guidelines, etc. but have not succeeding in getting the sound working.  There are no windows 8 drivers, but I've tried the W7 and Vista drivers using various compatiblity modes.  I've tried to let W8 update the driver.  The devices DO show up in control panel/device manager and when I test them the volume level bars move up and down, but no sound comes through speakers and/or headsets.
Do I just need to wait for HP to release drivers... what is the best approach?

    Hi doug_125,
More than likely HP is not going to support hardware for W8 on any system purchased before Oct 1st 2011. Some updates for W8, most W7 drivers will work in W8.
If you still had Windows 7 installed, you could run the Upgrade assistant software, it will scan your PC and generate a report on what is currently installed on your PC is compatible with W8.
    http://goo.gl/z8LVf
Here is a document for covering upgrading to Windows 8 http://goo.gl/CO6uV
The document is fairly extensive, covering all sorts of issues. There is a section about audio drivers. Perhaps it will help.
Please let me know if it does help.

  • Restore sound when not using headphones?

Sound works only with headphones.  How can I get sound back without headphones?

Hi William, begin by opening "System Preferences". Next proceed to "Sound" (under the "Hardware" category). Then go to the "Output" section. Select "Internal Speakers" as your output medium. Proceed to select "Sound Output" from the drop-down list titled "Use audio port for: ". Finally ensure that the "mute" checkbox is unchecked and that the volume slider is at an audible setting.

  • How to restore sound card to default on late 2012 mac mini??

I have a late 2012 mac mini with a sound card that is not working right? The issue is the line-in is not working at all, and the microphone is grayed out, like its disabled?? Please Help!!!

The only ways any Mac Mini could have a microphone, since there is none installed:
    1) if you have a display with built-in mic; or
    2) have an external camera, with built-in mic.
An iSight camera, original FW400 model, has a built-in microphone. Some Cinema
or wide displays with their own speakers and extra ports, may have a built-in Mic.
A newer Thunderbolt 27-inch or 27-inch LED Apple, has built-in iSight or facebook
kind of camera and those include a microphone.
So while nobody doubts a microphone would be necessary for a local voice input to
a Mini Mac; there is no reasonable doubt of built-in mics, as no MINI model had any.
With that off the table, the other information already presented is worth revisiting...
    A reset of the SMC/PRAM may help an actual hardware or software (firmware) issue;
but, it cannot reconnect with a non-existent 'built-in' accessory where none is present.
The system profile hardware information in the Mac OS X will show all the components
and their software aspects, as does most published information on the entire Mini line.
If a reset of the System Management Controller, or Parameter Random Access Memory,
fails to change the situation, try both of them again. Carefully & deliberately. And then,
if there is no traction and the peripheral aspects of other accessories which would be
most likely to include built-in audio input are also double-checked for function, you may
choose to inquire of an expert, product specialist, Authorized service provider, etc and
have them perform tests to see if there is some other hardware failure involved.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • What can I do to restore sound(speaker&headphones) on my iPod Touch 4G?

This is my second 4G iPod Touch as the first one was also had a defective speaker, I visited the Genius Bar and they said they could not fix the problem nor replace it as my warranty no longer valid. However, the "replacement" they gave me turned out to be defective, so when they asked me if I wanted to shell out another $129 to replace the "replacement" they had originally given me seems unethical.

Things just break sometimes. The warranty on a replacement iPod is the remainder of the original iPod or 90 days, what ever is greater.

  • HT4085 Temple Run2 app has disabled sounds on iPad, has anyone had this happen?  If so, how was it restored?

I muted sound on iPad while playing Temple Run2 app and was not able to restore sound later.  I have sound turned all the way up on the iPad and in the app but sound will not play.  Other notification sounds were also affected but not all sounds.  Has this happened to others?  If so, how was it restored?  Thanks.

    Try a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo.

  • [Amixer] Invalid Argument - Sound but not levels

I recently bought a USB Headset. I'm using ALSA without Pulseaudio. The sound is working fine, but I have a problem setting levels etc.
When I open amixer and the default card is set to the headset, the mixer fails to load with
amixer: Mixer default load error: Invalid argument
I have read the whole internets about this. The usb-snd kernel module is loaded properly.
Some intel users have fixed their issue with using mode=generic. But if i'm correct this will disable 7.1 playback ability.

A frickload of kudos to anybody that will either be able to recommend an alternative mixer (without having to install OSS/Pulse) or be able to link or recommend a fix.
    Kind regards,
    Mastermind

So I just spent another couple of hours battling with alsa.
I went from sound but no mixer, to no sound at all. And then back to having sound again after 4 hours of command mashing. All that after just a weekend in suspend/standby.
The only difference I could detect was that the subdevice on the card changed, but simply defining (and alsa restoring) that one in the ~/.asoundrc did not do the trick.
I also came across a more detailed error with the crashing alsamixer.
/usr/share/alsa/init/default:171: value write error: Invalid argument
/usr/share/alsa/init/default:185: value write error: Invalid argument
Commenting these lines did not fix the error.
    Some more outputs:

  • Problem with sound in Call of Duty 2

I bought Call of Duty 2 while my grandfather was buying a new iMac. We brought it home, set it up, and CoD 2 worked fantastically on his computer. I brought it home to my older iMac G5, and tried to set it up. The graphics are fine, the gameplay is there, but the only audio that plays is the background music and environmental sounds (wind, distant gunfire, etc.). No gameplay sounds (gunfire, voices, footsteps, etc.) can be heard. I read up on this in the forums, where people had solved the same problem by going to Audio MIDI Support in Applications/Utilities and changing audio output to 44,1000 Hz 2ch. I tried doing the same thing, but the audio output pane in the MIDI support app only said "output not supported". How can I fix this? Please help!
    iMac G5 2 GHz, 512 MB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi
In Audio MIDI Setup, change Properties For to Built-in Output. It will then change from Output Not Supported to Input Not Supported & the Output bit will become active.
Another way of restoring sounds is to open GarageBand, play a few notes on the screen keyboard, then quit GarageBand.

  • Sound delay in Call of Duty 2 with Creative Alchemy

    Hey!
I get sound lag with Windows 7 (64 bit ultimate) when I play Call of Duty 2 like the animation come first then the sound get in after. It's really annoying. This only happen with windows 7. I've got windows xp too and everything is fine but I want it to work well on my windows 7. I have another sound card (Realtek integrated) and there everything is fine on Windows 7. It doesn't work properly only with Windows 7 + 3d sound in game. My friend have 'Creative Tactic 3d Alpha + included sound card + the same options as I (3d sound in game, windows 7 + creative alchemy' and he doesn't have any problem with this **** delay in game. Any solutions? Thanks you in advance!

    Hi
In Audio MIDI Setup, change Properties For to Built-in Output. It will then change from Output Not Supported to Input Not Supported & the Output bit will become active.
Another way of restoring sounds is to open GarageBand, play a few notes on the screen keyboard, then quit GarageBand.
