Restoring the backup file but asked to enter password to unlock
Hi,
I need help. I tried to update the iPad OS then all of the sudden it prompt that the restoring the data was interrupted but no one was unplug the usb connector to the iPad. It asked if I wanted to use the older backup to backup the file but it prompt to Enter the password to unlock your iPad backup file. I tried all password that I used but it does not accept.

it is asking for your administrator password on the computer as the back up file is encrypted by the compputer.

If you encrypted the backup, there is no way around it. You will need to configure your iPhone as a new device.
From iTunes: About iOS backups:
In the iTunes Summary screen, select "Encrypt iPhone backup" if you want to encrypt the information stored on your computer when iTunes makes a backup. Encrypted backups are indicated by a padlock icon, and a password is required to restore the information to iPhone. You may want to write down the password for your backup and store it in a safe place. If you use a Mac, when you set a password you can select to store the password in the keychain. With iOS 4 and later, you can transfer the iOS keychain backup to a new device if you encrypt the backup.
Warning: If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and then forget your password, you will not be able to restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable. If you forget the password, you can continue to back up and use the device, however you will not be able to restore the encrypted backup to any device without the password. You do not need to enter the password for your backup each time you back up or sync.
If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore, choose set up as a new device. -
The title says it all, I was unfortunate enough to lose an iPhone 5s but luckily I have 'Find my iPhone' enabled on it, luckily I have found my old iPhone 4 and would like to know if 'Find my iPhone' will remain activated on the lost/stolen handset should I restore the backup file on my old iPhone?

BillyYou'll be fine restoring your backup to your old iPhone 4s. Just make sure your 4s is up to date to restore the backup. Bummer about you losing your iPhone 5s. You don't have to worry about the lost device being removed from Find my iPhone once it is turned on it cannot be removed unless you turn it off yourself.

please can someone help me to restore my backups on time capsule after reinstalled the new system. I tried after finished reinstall but it could not find. I also tried with the migration assistant in utilities, it also doesn't work. I always have time machine backed up all my files but now I can not bring anything back

What "new system" did you reinstall?
Are you upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard?
Or did you reinstall Leopard? If so, why and how (that may provide a clue)?
How is your Mac connected to the Time Capsule (use Ethernet for best results)?
You may need to repair the backups, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting. -
Problems with restoring a backup file after I had to get a new computer!
I have tried many times now in many different ways to restore my library. I have the backup files on my desktop and the itunes software loaded I have tried importing the backup files but I get the message that some of the the files were not imported because they could not be found. Then absoulutely nothing is in my library. The files are fine but nothing will import. I need help.

I am trying to restore files from an NT back up on a SBS 2003. The backup was taken on this machine and trying to restore to the same. I get this error: The backup file contains unrecognized data and cannot be used.
I tried copying it to a different machine with no luck. Any suggestions?

Since the backup file cannot be restored on a different machine, the backup file could be corrupt. You need to use some third party recovery utilities to restore the backup file.

Error code (-50) Restoring the Backup after upgrade to IOS 5
When i finished upgrade my iphone 4 (IOS 4) to IOS 5 and trying to restore the backup file, there is a problem with message "An error occurred while restoring this IPhone (-50). Please help to get my all files back.

I need to restore the backup to my iphone 3gs but the password associated with my Apple ID. It says the password I entered is not correct. Should i be putting in my Apple ID password or would it be a different password to unlock the backup.
I believe it is asking for the passcode you use for the screen lock on the phone.

I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer. -
I have an empty folder and 3 .jpg files stuck on my desktop. When I drag them to the trash I am asked to enter my administrator's password. I do this but the files and folder will not delete. My daughter's iPhone 3gs has just been replaced by Apple. When she tried to restore her backup files she was told to upgrade to itunes 10, but she can't because her Macbook is too old to run it. What do we need to do to get all her stuff onto the new phone?
Here's what I'd do, go back to the Apple store, take the phone & computer. Ask the geniuses how to fix this since they replaced the phone. You never know, they may just update the computer for free...its happened before...can't gurantee it will happen for you, but worth a try.
Otherwise, you're looking at purchasing a retail copy of Leopard, however if her computer can handle Snow Leopard you can purchase the $29 upgrade disk & install a full copy of SL. -
i have lost an fcpx project. when i search it, i'm directed to a backup file, but it's just (gibberish/code) text.
i think i was asked to install an update (something to do with libraries?) before i started working, but i didn't do the update.
don't know if this has anything to do with problem.

The backups for your version are date-time stamped as the name and with an extension of .fcpproject. They look like this.
The original project is named CurrentVersion.fcpproject.
You need to replace the CurrentVersion with the backup file and rename it to be CurrentVersion.fcpproject.
With FCPX closed, I suggest you move the original to the Trash, but not empty it. Then promote your backup one level higher in the project folder hierarchy (to be at the same level that the original previously occupied. Then rename the backup.
Open up FCPX, which should now recognize your project.

I am running W7 and FF 14.01. My admin account FF works fine. My working account has the problems. In the past I have been able to get the bookmarks back but not this time.
The bookmarks were there yesterday morning and gone in the afternoon. Nothing changed between the AM and PM to my knowledge. The '''*.default''' is the old profile, and the one with the random numbers is the newly reset profile. Once overwritten you can try to start Firefox in the reset profile and restore the backup. If this doesn't help you can also try to right-click the bookmarkbackups folder in the old profile > '''Properties''' > [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Previous-versions-of-files-frequently-asked-questions Previous Versions] > '''Copy''' and then overwrite the copied versions into the newly reset profile folder.

my problem is with importing saved .json backup file in fresh installed firefox 3.6.8? Message "unable to process the backup file", when i choosed option "Restore" from menu "organize your bookmarks" !?
Normally that i followed all instructions from your support site, and that i tried many things, but nothing helped :( !?
my .json file isn't corrupted cause it was saved on another partition before formatting my OS.
Please don't tell me that my bookmarks are lost :( cause i had many important things in that bookmarks, on 100.s pages :( ....

Can you restore that JSON backup in a new profile?
Did you make sure that it is really a JSON backup and that there is no missing or hidden other file extension?
A JSON backup starts with: {"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded"
A HTML backup starts with: <!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1>
You can try if you can restore that JSON backup in a new profile.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)
