Restoring the default font set

I recently installed a large collection of fonts and have since noticed an incredible decrease in my system performance. So, I'm wondering if there's an easy way to get back to the default font installation set without having to completely restore my computer? I may or may not have a backup of the system before I installed all of the fonts, I've likely made a new backup since then. I'm using Linotype FontExplorer X to manage fonts and I'm worried that this app also has something to do with the font problems on my system. Could anyone shed light on what exactly FontExplorer does with my fonts that OS X wouldn't do by itself?
Thanks!

FontExplorer like most other font managers allow you to collect specific fonts into groups that can be activated or deactivated according to need. This helps reduce the OS load of having to handle all the fonts that are installed in the several fonts folders.
For more on font management I suggest you visit the User Tips Library and read the tips on font management.

    I played with my finder's view setting and I set it default to all..
    Now I want to restore the default view setting, how is that possible?
    Thanks!

    Go to your home folder -> Library -> Preferences. Locate the file com.apple.Finder.plist and trash it. Then control-option-click Finder's Dock icon and select Relaunch. All Finder settings will now be back to the OS X defaults.

  • How do you change the Default Font setting for a HP 6310 all-in-one?

    I've had this printer for a couple of years and has worked great, but just recently, the main body of text is shadowed, like a shadow font. If i print from MS word and select my font it prints great, but the default font for printing emails and anything off of the web has this shadow

    It has no style so seems to be beyond the user's control.
    I've tried changing it to something else and redefining the Free Form style, but it doesn't apply when you create a new comment.
    The closest you'll get to what you want is to have a Style that you like and apply it to every comment when you open it, using an FKey shortcut.

  • How do I change the default fonts on Firefox for Android version 21?

    Is it possible to restore the default fonts from earlier versions of Firefox to use on web pages for version 21 instead of using the new shipped Open Sans and Charis fonts?

    Smo,
    That is incorrect, you can change the fonts used in content to your own choosing albeit only through advanced about:config preferences. This is not recommended.
    Change these in about:config;
    *font.name.serif.x-user-def
    *font.name.sans-serif.x-user-def
    *font.name.sans-serif.x-user-def
    *font.name.monospace.x-user-def
    *font.name-list.sans-serif.x-user-def
    *font.name-list.sans-serif.x-user-def
    *font.name.serif.x-western
    *font.name.sans-serif.x-western
    *font.name.sans-serif.x-western
    *font.name.monospace.x-western
    *font.name-list.sans-serif.x-western
    *font.name-list.sans-serif.x-western
    I've never tried changing these so you are at your own risk here.

  • How can I set the default font in tables

    I am using Pages "09 4.3.  I use Myriad in Table cells and have to change the font in about 6 cells in a table before Pages accepts that is the one to use.  I would like to be able to determine the default font in one operation when I first set the document up.  Does anyone know if this can be done and how please?

    Find out what the Paragraph Style is that is used in the table by selecting some text. Change it to what you want.
    Open the Styles Drawer > click on the red arrow next to the style > Update it > When you are finished save it as a Template

  • Is it possible to set the default font in Pages with Workgroup Manager?

    School district. We use iWorks '09 (currently) and several teachers would like the default font for all students to be a specific font (Comic Sans because of the shape of the letter 'a' and the number '4').
    I know about creating the template and using the template, but that must be done for all student accounts, and must be done again for any incoming new students.
    I would prefer there to be a way of setting this in WorkGroup Manager? I don't see that it is possible though. Or am I missing something?

    You might also consider using color groups with Illustrator. Let me know what you think. It may help you out with projects that use the same color preferences.

  • Setting the default font

    Hey,
    I was just wondering if there is a way to set the default font to whatever you want. It is especially frustrating for footnotes (no matter how many times you change the font of your footnotes, every subsequent footnote is created in the default Helvetica).
    I've looked around in Help and such but can't find any option to set the default font.
    Thank you!
    Jesse.

    I described several time ways to do that.
    It requires surgery in the index.xml file describing the used template.
    Assuming that the used template is Blank.template.
    Create a new document using it.
    Save it as my_Blank.pages.
    Using the scheme which I described many times, open its index.xml file.
    To do that I use the free TextWrangler.
    Search for "footnote" to reach this block of code :
    You see the entry spelled <sf:fontName/>
    Edit it as :
    <sf:fontName>
    <sf:string sfa:string="LucidaGrande"/>
    </sf:fontName>
    to get :
    Of course, you may use an other fontname.
    The rule is to use the official internal fontname.
    I already posted a long list of such names.
    Save the edited index.xml file
    If the original document contained a index.xml.gz file, remove it so that when you will open the doc it will be forced to use the edited index.
    Create a new document
    Leave it empty and save it as a custom template : my_Blank.template in the dedicated folder.
    Each time you will create a document starting from this template, the footnotes will be automatically created using LucidaGrande
    Some lines below the fontName descriptor is the fontSize one.
    The default one is :
    <sf:fontSize>
    <sf:number sfa:number="10" sfa:type="f"/>
    </sf:fontSize>
    You may edit it as
    <sf:fontSize>
    <sf:number sfa:number="9" sfa:type="f"/>
    </sf:fontSize>
    or an other integer value so the footnotes will default to this fontSize.
    Of course, double check what you do.
    When you will be satisfied of the result, maybe you will wish to edit the inthebox template.
    It may be done but it's an other story.

  • Why did iphone 4s only restore the default setting

    I had a problem with my iphone 4s restoration. I tried to unlock my phone becaue I have been with my contract for over one year. Following the instruction received from Apple, I first backed up my iPhone 4s to iTune and then erased all content and setting by going to Setting ->General -> reset > Erase All Content and Setting. When it completed, I got a message my phone has been unlocked and ask them if I want to restore my backup. But after the restoration completed, I found it only restored the default setting and content. All the apps I downloaded were not there. Can anyone tell me why this happened and how can I get all my apps back?

    "But is this a potential problem? "
    Probably not.

  • How do you change the default font in Illustrator CS5?

    I have upgraded my Illustrator to CS5 and my default font has changed to a strange font. In Photoshop and InDesign, I was told that all you have to do is change the font in the Character menu to the font that you wish to be set as "default" and it will be the font that you always start with.
    NOTE: Does this mean that if I use a different font in a different document, the font will stay that font unless I change it back? Isn't there a way to make a particular font the font that I would always what I start with? All this setup means, is that the "default font" will always be whatever the last font that  was being used was. There has to be a way to make a default font that I will always start with no matter what the last font that was being used was.
    Illustrator gives you no option on font type, unless a file is open. Then, if you change the font and close the file, next time you start a file, it will go back to what is was to begin with. There has to be a way to change the default font for all of these programs to where the font always stays the same unless you change it. Mine is just set to use a weird font that I would probably never use.
    I just never thought it would be that big of a deal to change default settings for the font.

    Okay, I basically made three different documents and I made sure that I had everything chosen in each. I then saved the three to that file and they now appear in the list:
    Settings for all 3:
    72psi, 150psi and 300psi
    Rulers Visable
    Times New Roman
    12pt
    14.4pt
    I then went in and started three new documents. I used the three different New Document Profile's that I made and they all had Rulers, their sizes were correct, but the font stayed Myriad Pro. Did I miss anything? And, Yes, I did change the font and the setting before I saved them in the New Document Profile.
    One other thing, I did create a file in the folder, but it was spelled incorrectly. I then went into the folder, erased it and made a second. Then, I went to open it in IllustratorCS5 and it was still listed. I went to the file and it wasn't there anymore, but it was still listed in the New Document Profile. Is there a way to get it off of the list or is all I have to do is restart Illustrator?

  • How do you change the default font in indesign cs3 on a mac?

    Hi, I have tried closing all indesign docs and then changing the font in the font menu to helvetica (from times), then opening a new document and it still gives me [Times (TT)] when i draw a new text box and write something in it.
    I have tried quitting indesign and reopening it and its still the old default font of [Times (TT)] - which is also not an available font on my machine.
    I have also changed my basic paragraph style to helvetica from times, and it still doesnt change the default font when i open a new document.
    When i open a new document in indesign it comes up with helvetica in the character pallet as the font, its just when i go to draw a text box and write something in it that it writes it in Times.

    Is it possible you have more than one text frame object style, or that you have some default paragraph style set other than [Basic Paragraph]? If you are only editing Basic Paragraph and your default text frame is set to another syle, or you have another paragraph style selected when you begin typing, you might see this behavior.
    If not, try resetting your preferences. Replacing InDesign Preferences

    Then right click bring up this menu while inside active field and click on item with arrrow:

    Now what ever you typed should reflect the new Font setting.
    we may be as you say. But then again other people act like whats on the other side.
    We do our best. And if we fall short, well we gave it our best shot.
    Okay. In the interests of being completely clear:
    I have already tried this. Several times. This procedure will change the default for any of the fields that I place by hand. It does not change the default for any of the fields placed by the Wizard. I was unable to find a solution to the problem in any of the manuals, books, or on-line forums, which is why I posted here as a last resort. This leads to two conclusions:
    A. Your advice is incorrect
    B. There is a problem with my installation of Acrobat
    I will assume that A is not the correct conclusion. I will therefore try a re-install of my software to see if this clears up the problem. There have been other issues with other Adobe software on my machine that a re-installed has fixed nicely. Luckily, I don't have to do this at all often.

  • How do you change the default font in Outlook 2013?

    I am trying to set the default font in Outlook 2013 as per the customer's request and am having no success.
    First I create a NormalEmail.dotm file and added it to the Office Customization Tool, created an msp and added it to my package. After installing Office 2013 I check and the NormalEmail.dotm
    is on the machine in %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates folder waiting to be loaded. When launching Outlook 2013 on first run it renames my NormalEmail.dotm to NormalEmail15Pre.dotm. I created the file in Word 2013 so it's not a 2010 version and it (NormalEmail15Pre.dotm)
    open cleanly in Word 2013 (it does not open in compatibility mode).  If I close Outlook and rename NormalEmail15Pre.dotm back to NormalEmail.dotm Outlook opens and uses my template without any issue. This is not a solution as I have 1000's of deployments
    and can't do this manually. One other thing, I did have this same problem with the default font in Word 2013 but by implementing a registry setting (HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Options\MigrateNotmalOnFirstBoot = 1) it used my Normal.dotm
    template on first run, if such a setting exists for Outlook I can't find it.
    Also I did try to set the font through the mailsettings (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\MailSettings) in the registry as we did with O2007 and O2010 but
    those do not load into Outlook when tweaked.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/odsupport/archive/2009/04/24/how-to-deploy-specific-fonts-in-office-2007.aspx
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi, I found out how you can set it.
    You need two registry keys to be set in order to keep the preloaded settings.(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\MailSettings)
    These are:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\LanguageResources]
    "LangTuneUp"="OfficeCompleted"
    "OutlookChangeInstallLanguage"="Yes"
    both are String entries.

  • Is there any way to change the default font for outgoing text-messages, in "Messages"? (OSX 10.10)

    Is there any way to change the default font for outgoing text-messages, in "Messages"?
    I can change it for one conversation, but then it resets to the default, tiny font.
    The preferences menu only lets me change the conversation font.
    (OSX 10.10)

    Hi,
    As you may remember there used to be a Messages pane to the Preferences where the Font and colour of the Balloons or background and the Font text colour could be changed.
    And there was a Format Menu for character, word and Sentence changes in the current IM or iMessage.
    Those have gone in Yosemite's version of Messages (Despite it retaining the designation of Messages 8 the same as Mavericks' version).
    All that can be done now is set the size of the font and this has been moved to the General Section of the Preferences.
    The Yosemite version has also been fixed to using the Balloons style of send and receiving any type of messages as well.
    Changing the Font would involved editing the Balloon.transcript file.

  • What happened to the default folder set (for your own libraries) in Edit/Preferences, in Adobe Photoshop CC?

    Once again I come to my computer, and it's not the way I left it. While I love cloud, I think in some way, the concept of Customer Service i.e. Providing a Service to a Customer "Set Service, for a Set Price" has lost the value of "service"
    I find it extremely disheartening, to always be dealing with changes Adobe makes, it costs me an exorbitant amount of time. I don't work with a team, so it's just me. And every other week, there is some changes, when my 3D quite working in CS6 I had no forewarning, just woke up one morning and "Poof" no more 3D, the software turned off the feature in my CS6, however, it did work in CC.
    The things I find most disheartening
    features quit working with NO PRIOR WARNING.
    Plug-ins, libraries what, now have to be stored in the cloud in order for MY system to automatically see them?
    Again No Default Libraries on our machines ( unless you think I'm going to store 2 Terabytes of libraries on the cloud and/or in my AppData Directory *not*  Nothing but system/program files themselves go on my Primary drive, everything else is on external drives, this is a security issue and one I'm not about to change, nor should anyone have to change it, since it is a *best practices* standard.
    I still can't access items in (for instance: Color Themes created on Kuler, are available on my computer, but not for me to put them into a library on the cloud. I have over 100 color themes there I have created, on my Creative Cloud account, why can they not be imported or drag/drop into the library designated for it. When I log into my Cloud Account on My iPad it is the same cloud account as on my PC, yet it doesn't even see my previously created color scheme's? Why? Does anyone have any ideas?
    I use a font manager for Windows called High-Logic, a Font Manager, Creator and a Scanner for Hand Writing Fonts Great Program, I've had it for over a year, while there is no plugin for Photoshop there is for In-Design and for Photoshop, I use the Font Manager on my computer to activate the font I want and it shows up in the Character Tool Box automatically.  Yet, just in the last week, every time I try and create something in Photoshop, I'm fine, until I go to use a font, at which time, my working project goes "dark" ( no longer visible) until I click on another tool in Photoshop.
    I cannot keep having these issues, it's way too time consuming, it's exorbitantly time consumer attempting to get a response to questions in the forums (no one's fault, it's just the nature of the forums themselves)
    The true cost of a product is not only in it's subscription based fee, but also includes the time it takes to keep up with product changes, additional training, the cost of delivery (cable connections/provider).  So far since the first of the year I have logged over 100 hours to either 'fix something that quit working with no notice', time spent re-reading documentation seeking a solution, time spent perusing the forums for a solutions, or posting a question, time spent in additional training/books, etc."
    While I understand I'm relatively new, as I had a 5 years off from working, I went from Macromedia Suite 8 to CS5.5 -full suite  (heck-of a learning curve)
    Yet, I cannot believe I am the only person having these issues, otherwise the forums wouldn't be so full.
    I did try limiting the permissions to not allow Adobe to update the software automatically, however, the permissions I wrote, were in fact re-written by adobe's cloud synchronization, Which I did find disturbing on a few levels. None of which I'll go into, but it needed to be mentioned that *yes, I tried that too*.
    *I ended up re-configuring my machine AGAIN* and deleting CS6 altogether, The performance change after I deleted CS6, was/is the difference and why I am still with my cloud membership.
    **I have reconfigured my machine numerous times, to facilitate the cloud, I am on a PC, Adobe and Microsoft Development Environments do not play well together, I ended up removing them altogether and creating a vm for them and basically all my development work. And have twice since reconfigured it for various reasons.

    Hi
    One of the reasons that Edge fonts and web fonts are though to be preferable to the old font stacks was because of Android tablets/smartphones only having the Droid font family available, (Android 4.3 added the Roboto font family also).
    This meant that Android device users defaulted to the 'Droid' font or a user installed font. The default font if the user had installed a custom font and set it as default, could be anything, (even a comic script font) thus possibly destroying your text and/or layout completely.
    If you are not using an Edge font or a downloadable font do not forget to set the last three fonts in your font stack to -
    '...., Roboto variant, Droid variant, default font'

  • Body text appearing as TNR, not the default font

    I'm having a problem with the font settings with mail sent from Mail.
    I've set the default font to Arial, but all emails sent to other people (using Outlook under WinXP) see it as Times New Roman. I've even specifically selected Arial from the Font Pallete and it still comes up as TNR. If I select another font, like say Verdana, they see that fine. It's only Arial that screws up.
    I also have Arial in my signature, but that comes up fine - even at the same time as the body text is screwing up

    Try setting the default in Mail preferences to something else other than Arial, then change the font to Arial in the message via the Font Palette.
