Restoring the window layout

I have constant freezing when opeing up Final Cut Pro X (10.1) - the message given by the welcome-screen is "Restoring the window layout".
I know this is an "old" problem and I've had it with earlier versions of FCPX as well - but now with 10.1 the problem is constant in the way that it happends almost with every start. The workaround I've found (deleting Library/Application Support/Final Cut/Layouts AND Library/Preferences/com.apple.finalcut.plist, AND then reboot the computer) work fine every time. But - of course this is not ideal in any way.
Is there any one out there who have found a cause to this behavior?!

What the heck are you guys talking about?!
This issue is coming up again; the issue was previously resolved with 10.0.3.
Followed all steps in KB, followed tips found on reputable FCPX sites, no luck.
We are opening a ticket with Apple, hopefully they'll give us a fix, or they'll acknowledge the regression and will issue a patch ASAP.

I downloaded Final Cut Pro X, and at startup, the software freezes, showing "Restoring the window layout". I tried all the solutions indicated on the web, nothing works... (deleting preferences, deleting layout, using PreferecencesManger...)
Please help!
My computer is a Macbook Pro 15'' Mac Os 10.6.8

Well, this is one of those situationewhere deleting the preference file would actually be useful, because that is one of the things stored there - but you alreday did that...
Are you still on 10.6? Your profile says so.. although it has to be 10.6.8 then.. as FCPX does not run on previous versions.
Do you by any chance have a Window Manager or extension installed??

Removed layouts folder but still "Restoring the window layout"

MY ORIGINAL PROBLEM
All my Final Cut Pro X files are save on my external hard drive. When I open FCP with my hard drive plugged in, FCP says "Restoring the window layout" and a grey background appears. If I open FCP without my harddrive and then plug my harddrive in once FCP has loaded,FCP works. Please Help!
The problem seemed to be solved by putting the layouts folder on the desktop
But I just loaded up FCP and its the same stupid problem all over again.

The extrernal drive doesn't have FCP installed on it. It only has the FCP projects and events.
It isn't the drive I use for time machine

Available space: 543.78 GB
Used space: 456,046,366,720 bytes (456.05 GB on disk)

"Restoring the window layout" hang - tried everything! HELP!

I'm in Mavericks and am experiencing that "Restoring the Window Layout" hang that is kinda infamous around these parts.
Except that in my case, I've done EVERYTHING that all the other links suggest. I have:
*Trashed the Layouts folder (inside Users/myusername/Library/App Support/Final Cut Pro)
*Trashed prefs (inside Users/myusername/Library/Preferences)
*Followed the instructions to remove FCPX entirely (as found here: Final Cut Pro X 10.1: How to remove and reinstall Final Cut Pro X) *and* repeated the removal of Layouts and prefs as stated above.
And the problem still persists.
I am [attempting to run] the latest version (10.1.2). Purchased through the App Store so it is verified as the latest.
I can in no way get FCPX to launch properly. Every time I try, it hangs during the launch on the "Restoring the Window Layout" launch screen. I do see my last-used project partially drawn behind it, but the window is all funky (things are in weird places).
Please help...kinda desperate here...

I am certain I had trashed all the prefs mentioned in the other threads (there were about 3, in the Users/Prefs folder), but I tried your key command, got the prompt to completely trash all prefs, and it did indeed cure the issue. Thanks a ton!

Have you got loads of projects on your external HDD?
If so it will usually take a long time to launch FCP X.
You need to hide those you are not using with this excellent free app which used to cost $5 and was a bargain at that price.

If you are using the latest FCP X 10.1 you need to close any unnecessary Libraries.

FCP stalls at Restoring the Window layout

Hey all,
FCP doesn't seem to want to open and stalls constantly on "Restoring the Window Layout"
I've tried Final Cut Pro X: May stop responding at "Restoring the window layout" or open to a gray window - Apple Support but that doesn't help at all.
I've tried reinstalling the whole programme. That doesn't help at all.
in my Force Quit Applications box I'm getting a notification that com.apple.audio.InfoHelper is not responding
Anyone got any ideas? Or do I just put this down to Apple's new definition of what a "professional" application is?

Trashed ~/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro/Layouts - quit, restarted, no change
Trashed ~/Library/Preferences/ anything with com.apple.finalcut in the title - restarted and it now works.
Hoping it lasts longer than the first time it "worked"

In the Finder, hold down the Option key and then choose Library from the Go menu.
In the Library folder that opens, go to Application Support > Final Cut Pro.
Drag the Layouts folder from the Final Cut Pro folder to the Trash.

Final cut stuck when opens on "Restoring the window layout"

The software crashed and after I started it again there was a mess of files which are not found although I downlaoded them from the camera.
Now the software doesn't show anything. Only gray screen and it is stuck on "restoring window layout"

Try opening the Home Library (not the Root level library) >ApplicationsSupport>Final Cut Pro and drag the Layouts folder to the trash.

Freezed - Restoring the Window Layout

Help! My fcpx is freezing when opening. Take a look at the screen shot.
I'm using an external 2TB WD Harddrive and have not had this problem before. I recently installed the Mavericks latest update, maybe this has something to do with it?

Which version of FCP X do you Think you should have?
The version shown in the screen shot is 10.1.1.
This newer version changes the game particularly with the media management side of things.
In a word Libraries.
Close FCP X and hold the Option key when re-starting.
Select any Library shown except the one that was trying to open (if you know which one it was).
FCP X usually asks when you move from an older version to the newer if you want to update.
Note: before doing any updating be aware of the consequences.

The new monster machine has been delivered and I'm working on setting it up;

I however, don't want to spen the next 6 days setting up AA2.0
is there anyway to transfer the window layout settings from one AA2.0 install to a new one,
the first run layout is way too much junk for what I use it for
I tried searching but nothing of any relevance was presented in the results
all I want is to have it look as close to AA1.0 as possible
which I have already managed to do on my home machine
and the previous (old machine) install here
however, I'm not kidding when I say it takes 6 days to set it up the way I want
just trying to move the level indicator below the main window and above the rest
is nearly impossible it always goes behind or in front of the main window
making a huge useless 1000Px wide x 800Px tall level indicator (screen res 1152x 854)
or it pops behind or in front of one of the other small windows
here's my setup:
Edit View:
1> Regular Tool Bar (not the Hybrid)
2> Main window
3> Transport Controls
4> Time window
5> Zoom Controls
6> Selection / View position indicator
7> Level Indicator
8> I float the Cue list & only open it when I need it.

The other AA2.0 machines aren't running

I've been using 2.0 like this since I set it up and I don't use a lot of the "extra features"
working strictly in EV, I like my wave as big as I can have it while still being able to
use the rest of the machine
the work I do has me splitting words to correct:
stuttering
ummm's
repeated words
andahhhh's
etc.
all while making it sound like the speech errors never happened
1152 x 864 on a 17" monitor makes the normal windows text tiny and unreadable
without modification to the default font size and then selecting the Windows (Large) theme
I'm from the old school when a 15" monitor was considered huge and 800 x 600 was the res. to have
here's my screen from home office setup on the exact same monitor res. as the AA1.0 from the office setup
I just want to transfer the settings for this layout because it's what I use

Can I restore the Windows side of my partition to factory settings without affecting the Mac side?

I want to restore the Windows 8 side of my partition to factory settings, but I don't want the mac side to be affected. Is there any way to do that?

You provided no information about your computer, your operating system, network, errors, or Windows version. But I'll take some guesses.
What did you try? What happens when you try? Any error messages? Did you download and install the Windows Support Software, or install it from your Snow Leopard Install Disk if you are using Snow Leopard? Did you look in the Windows Help menu to see how to set up wifi in Windows?

Where is the "Window Layouts" file?

I exported my 65 GB movie.
I didn't check the location; just assumed it was going to plant the last place I exported a movie to.
I clicked the "export" command again to see where it defaulted to; I can see the movie name, but the finder cannot locate either my movie nor the "Window Layouts" folder it is in, presumably because it's buried in a bundled file somewhere.

I'm going to have to export the movie again unless somebody can tell me where the *** this file is...

I just downloaded and installed a nifty little program called "Find File" which searches inside bundles and packages, too.

FCP really shouldn't export movies to a preferences file! That seems a little like a glitch to me...
