Restoring time capsule to original setting

My time capsule stopped making back ups [last one in June 2012]. Now I want to restore it to original settings, don't care to loose back ups, have hard drives as well, how do I do this?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
See "How do I reset my AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule?" > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728 Then, choose "Factory default reset" and follow the steps to reset the Time Capsule. You can do it on AirPort Utility or pressing the reset button of the Time Capsule

  • My airport time capsule did not set up successfully, and then status light flash amber

    Hi, Guys
I am the first time user of the time capsule, please help how to proceed?
I have set up the first time and my airport time capsule does not set successfully, then I try to reset to factory setting. After this, although I use the ethenet cable to connect the router to the airport, the status light flash amber, always, even after the reset.
Also, I can see that airport time capsule base station from the wireless network when airport is plugged in. However, when I want to access to it.

Thanks for your guidance, but the product is really anoying. First, I am sure that the airpor utilities is 6.3.
and I also follow your instruction that to set the IPv6 as local link mode. But still get the same error as mentioned in my first post.
Therefore, I have tried to use the bridge mode but could not find it, and therefore still can not set it up successfully, even though I reset the factory again(press the reset button 5 secconds at least).

  • Restoring Time Capsule HD to its Original State

Is there a way to wipe the time capsule hard drive clean? We no longer have a laptop that was backed up on our time capsule, and I can't seem to find an obvious way of restoring the Time Capsule Disk to its default state.

Yes, you can erase the Time Capsule disk.
    1. Open up Airport Utility and click manual button in the lower left
    2. Click on "Disks" at the top of the window
    3. Click "Erase"

  • Restoring Time Capsule to Factory Settings

My time machine is no longer backing up my hard-drive, and I think I may have to reset the Time Capsule. I have stored lots of home movies on that disk. Will restoring the Time Capsule to factory settings erase the disk?

Thanks, Pondini. I've been through the manuals and the boards and FAQs but can't figure this one. My last backup was in December. Now when I try to back-up, Time Machine starts cycling through (i.e Making Backup Disc Available), but then it just stops: "The Machine could not complete the backup. The backup disc is not available." That's the error message.
When I go into Time Machine on my Systems Preferences and click Select Disk, I get None. If I then go to Set Up Time Capsule, Airport Utility does find my Time Capsule.
I click through where it asks whether I want to change some settings for this Time Capsule. I click all the way through, changing nothing. And of course, I haven't resolved the problem. I don't want to go back to factory settings because I have archived a lot of old home movies on the Time Capsule and am afraid I'll lose them.
The only changes I've made recently that may affect this have to do with a mobileme account. I've been using one mobileme account for work for several years. Three weeks before I started having problems with the Time Capsule, I started a MobileMe account for the family. Now, when I sync all of our machines, the system looks for a new local host, which I have created. About the time I started syncing my computers is about the time the Time Machine stopped backing up.
Can switching between the two local hosts be the source of my problem?

  • Time Capsule can't set up as wireless network, but Airport Extreme works

I just bought a Time Capsule to use as a back-up hard drive and a wireless network. I currently have a Airport Extreme for my wireless network and it works fine. When I try to plug in the ethernet cable into the Time Capsule to set up a new wireless network - all I get is a blinking amber light on Time Capsule and Airport Utility can not find Time Capsule. When I plug the ethernet cable back into the Airport Extreme to see if my DSL is working - the Airport Extreme light is back on and I can connect to the internet. I updated the Time Capsule with the latest firmware so that's no it. Any ideas?

    OK, thanks for the clarification.
First, make a note of the configuration settings in the Airport Extreme as you will likely set up the TC the same way. Open AirPort Utility, click on Manual Setup at the bottom of the pane and then click on the Airport icon at the top of the next page, which is a summary of your settings. Would be a good idea to write these down and keep them handy.
Then do a hard reset on the Time Capsule to get it back to factory defaults. You would do this by first pulling the power cable for a few minutes. Then using an unfolded paper clip or something small, hold in the reset button on the back while you plug the power cable back in and continue to hold the reset button for at least 10-12 seconds before you release it.
Power off your computer, then restart. When it's back up, connect an ethernet cable from the computer to the WAN port on the back of the Time Capsule. This should help Airport Utility "see" the Time Capsule so you use Airport Utility to configure it.
If you have set up the Extreme, the TC set up is basically the same unless you have changed the modem or some other things in your network.
    Post back on your progress.

  • Just bought new time capsule- need help setting up WiFi network with another router

    Here ismy situation.
I had a wireless network setup up at home using a Belkin wifi router.
I have 2 macBooks (1 pro, 1 air) and 2 iphones that connect wirelessly and a desktop PC that is hard wired to the ethernet port.  In addition, I have a Verizon wireless network extender plugged in by ethernet.  All of the hard-wired gear is in our 3rd floor attic office (and the wireless signal was strong throughout the house).
The Belkin wifi router was plugged into a wall ethernet jack that is in turn wired into a Linksys router in the basement (along with multiple other ethernet ports througout the house) and is hardwired to the Cable modem next to it.  All of the hard-wired ethernet stuff (including the router in the basement) was there when we bought the house, and I have no clue in the tangle of wires how to sort them out (but don't really think I need to)
I just purchased a TimeCapsule to do wireless backups of my 2 macbooks, and tried to set it up alongside the existing wireless modem.
Needless to say, this did not work well. I called  AppleCare, and was told that the TimeCapsule needs to be the "1st" wireless adapter, so I went into the basement, and connected the time capsule directly to the cable modem, and then out to the basement router.  The Belkin router still needs to be in the attic to supply the PC and the Verizon adapter (so it is near a window for GPS signal).
If I try to name the WiFi network the same SSID on both the TC and the belkin router (to have dual signal strenth coverage) the whole thing gets messed up and the TC cannot be "found" by the aiprort Utility software.
What I have done now is that I have 2 side-by-side wireless networks with 2 unique names (actually 3, because I enabled the 5Ghz signal on the TC), but our wireless devices do not "switch" automatically from one SSID  to another stronger signal SSID as we move through the house
Here's the question: How do I name them the same so that the devices will switch effortlessly to the stongest signal?  I understand it involves switching the "channels" but don't know how to do it right now.  Currently, everything works, so I don't want to mess it up tinkering.  Another caveat- there are several other wireless networks from neighbors houses that I can "see".  I jsut downloaded a program called iStumbler that shows the channels, but not sure what to do with that info.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

OK.. sounds like a mess.. or at least messy and the previous people should have left a log book with all the IP address info in it.. you have far too many routers.. but from here it is impossible to tell how they are configured. Most are probably just setup as AP.
Naming rule for wireless.. Same SSID same security different channel.
SSID ie wireless name to work on the PC side should have no spaces and no special characters. TC name should also follow that rule. So the devices need to all set with fixed channels.
Don't worry too much about iStumbler and what is outside your house.. there isn't enough channels at 2.4ghz anyway. And you are going to need to use them all. There are only three non-overlapping channels. 1, 6, 11 so set each device to one of those channels. The TC should be as close as you can to where you normally use the MacBooks.. and turn on the 5ghz. You will have to leave it to automatic name so the Macbook can also roam across from 2.4 to 5ghz. But if you care to use a different name and force it onto 5ghz the speed is much better as long as you are in the same room.
Roaming is great in theory.. often in practice it just doesn't work.. you need to step in and turn off wireless and then turn it back on.. you can quickly see which router it is connecting to by hold down the option key when you click the airport fan in the top menu area.. and look at bssid.. you will have to figure out which number MAC address relates to which router.
Also do not be surprised if Lion gives you issues. It seems to often drop out and lose connection to the TC as a backup device even if internet is still working.

  • How to restore Time Capsule from Archive?

Ok, I understand how to archive the Time Capsule Disk (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1281).
But how do you restore it?
    Thanks in advance!

Copy the file back by dragging it to your time capsule hard drive.  Take a look at this link, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427

  • Time Capsule and iTunes set up not working, please help.

I have moved my itunes library to my time capsule and changed my itunes preferred path to its time capsule location. However when I restart my apple laptop, after having shut it off for the night, and open itunes (time capsule is visible and accessible to the laptop), itunes has reversed the preferred path I set to point to my time capsule to my local laptop hard drive instead. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have looked in other discussions concerning lost itunes file paths, however I never had this issue with my wired external drive; and I only start iTunes after I am sure that my computer can access the files on my time capsule. Thank you.
My laptop is a Macbook Pro 2.3 Ghz running Mac OS X (10.5.2)

If you're still experiencing "disconnects," even with the earlier firmware, but not experiencing these at all when directly connecting your computer to the modem, there is a good chance that one of the following may still be the problem:
o Bad Ethernet cable between the D-Link & TC.
    o The TC is faulty.
    o The D-Link is faulty.
o The TC & D-Link are just not compatible with each other.
o The ADSL signal strength, coming from your ISP into the D-Link, may need "tuning."
I'd start with trying a known good Ethernet cable. If that doesn't resolve the problem try contacting your ISP/ADSL-Provider next to see if they can run a ADSL line diagnostic to verify that there is a good signal to the D-Link; While you have them on the line, see if they can provide you with another modem.
Finally, if available to you, try temporarily replacing the current TC with another TC or another wireless router.

  • Time Capsule & U-Verse - Set Up Questions

I've got AT&T U-Verse and want to use Time Capsule for my Macs, iPhones, and iPads (pretty much everything but my TV's - I'll let those continue to run through U-Verse).
I want to set up my Time Capsule so that I maximize speed for the aforementioned Apple devices.  However, I do not know what to do when asked to set up my network by Airport Utility.  Do I create a new wireless network?  Do I replace my base station or wireless router?  Do I join my current network?
I was thinking that I would have a network for my U-Verse devices and a network for my Apple devices.  Can I do this?  Is this my best option?  Will I get the most out of Time Capsule's abilities?
    Thank you for your help.

Having posted your question.. several other posts come up on the right side.. the top one pretty much answers your question rather than me doing it again.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/9957659#9957659
Using search is a good plan before posting.
In my opinion just set the TC to bridge, plug it via ethernet into the existing router. That is the best for all the devices.. and creates one flat network. You can use either the TC or the existing router wireless if it has it.. it makes no difference. Just use the strongest signal in that area of the house. So you can set them up with the same wireless name and same security but use a different channel.. this means using manual setup for wireless.

  • HT1178 scan cannot find time capsule for new set up

I have connected airport time capsule with ethernet cable direct to the computer, but the scan for the new time capsule comes up with nothing.
Can anyone suggest a way to scan manually when manual scan button is greyed out.
    Thanks

Unfortunately, if you check the Specification page for the System Requirements for the new Time Capsule, it reads like this:
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
         or
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3
    http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/specs/
So, if you have a new Time Capsule, you will not be able to use 10.6.8 to set it up and administer it.
If you have an iPhone or iPad handy, that could be used to set up the new Time Capsule.
If not, then you will need to upgrade your Mac to at least Lion (10.7.5) or higher.

  • Just bought new Time Capsule, need help setting up...

Okay so I already have my wireless network set up in my house with two airport expresses, I have the airplay and wireless printer set up as well.
Just bought a time capsule today and want to know the best way to set it up.  Is it best to use the TC as the "main" wireless router, connected to my cable modem?  Is it harder to set it up this way, am I going to have to hard connect the printer to set it up with the Time capsule?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Personally, I would always use the AirPort device that provides the fastest wireless performance to create my main wireless network.
If you bought a Time Capsule 4th Generation, http://support.apple.com/kb/SP627 chances are high that it is the fastest device you own.
I would set it as "Create a wireless network" and set the two AirPort Expresses as "Join a wireless network" or "Extend a wireless network".
    Enjoy your new device !

Hi Thanks for the response. In desperation I went and dug out my old Maxtor back up drive. Plugged it in via USB, and Time Machine worked straight away.
Time Machine works fantastically - I am now wondering whether to just plug the Time Capsule into the USB?
Otherwise, it is going back to the shop!
    Thanks again.
