Restoring Windows XP on Qosmio G20

Hi all,
I have problems with my Qosmio running slow and I suspect some virus or Trojan. So I have decided to restore my system but my surprise is that I cannot find a cd of windows restoration. Is that possible? I only have a CD that says QosmioPlayer Recovery CD-ROM and and CD that says Additional Software CD.
If I put the QosmioPlayer recovery in the drive, it will boot on it and I get various recovery options: 1 recover to initial state 2 update qosmiopayer functions 3 delete qosmio player 4 cancel
This does not look like a windows recovery CD :(
Is it possible to recover Windows without the CD ? I'm pretty sure i did not loose any of the cds that came with the qosmio.
Can someone shed some lihght ? THanks,
Alain

> I have decided to restore my system but my surprise is that I cannot find a cd of windows restoration. Is that possible?
LOL why this should not be possible ;)
> I only have a CD that says QosmioPlayer Recovery CD-ROM and and CD that says Additional Software CD.
Qosmio player recovery disk contains only the Qosmio Player software. the additional software cd contains only the 3rd party applications which were preinstalled on this notebook. But this is not recovery disk!
> Is it possible to recover Windows without the CD
You need an disk; either recovery disk or Microsoft Win XP disk.
> I'm pretty sure i did not loose any of the cds that came with the qosmio.
Hmm then this means that someone has stolen your disk as mentioned above; both disks Qosmio Player Recovery CD and Additional Software CD are NOT system, recovery disk!

  • Qosmio G20 Vista drivers? Not needed to install Windows Vista

    Hello,
I am new at this forum. My name is Francisco and I live in Brazil. I own a Toshiba Qosmio g20_105 and it is running Windows Vista Ultimate EN RTM 6000 without problems.
To do this, you must perform a fresh install of Windows Vista. The drivers for network (Intel PRO100),for audio (Soundmax), for TV (Toshiba PCI Tuner), modem (toshiba modem), Alps pointing device are installed directly from microsoft. You must install Toshiba nvidia display driver, Toshiba Bluetooth (monitor and stack), Toshiba texas flash media driver, toshiba RAID (driver and utilities), toshiba remote control manager and ConfigFree for Windows Vista.
You must have the Toshiba RAID drivers to install from the windows Vista DVD. Otherway, Windows does not recognize Toshiba RAID 0 and RAID 1.
Below some pictures of my G20 Desktop screen:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen1.jpg
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen2.jpg
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen3.jpg
And here is an example of using deskscapes animated backgrounds with Windows Vista, called dreamscene.
    It is in paused mode
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen4.jpg
To perform a fresh install of windows Vista:
Please, download the Toshiba RAID drivers from here:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/raid.rar
    1. Copy the contents of this archive onto a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive.
    2. Insert your Microsoft Windows Vista Edition Bootable DVD.
    3. Power on your computer and press F12 to display the boot menu.
    4. Choose the option to boot from the CD/DVD drive.
    5. On the first setup screen, choose your language options then press "Next".
    6. Press "Install Now".
    7. Type in your Product Key then press "Next".
    8. Accept the license terms by checking the box then press "Next".
    9. When asked "What type of installation do you want", press "Custom (advanced)".
    10. When asked "Where do you want to install Windows", make sure your media containing the Toshiba RAID drivers is connected to the computer, then click on "Load Driver".
    11. Browse to the location you have copied the RAID drivers to then press "OK".
    12. Setup will return to the previous screen, but it will show that you have selected the TOSHIBA RAID driver.
    13. Make sure the TOSHIBA RAID driver is selected then press "Next".
    14. Continue the installation of Windows Vista as normal.
Now you will need the Toshiba drivers for your Qosmio G20:
    See the Device manager info:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiodrivers1.jpg
    Drivers:
    1. SD memory controller
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/SD_memory.rar
    2. Bluetooth monitor and stack
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/bluetooth_mon.rar
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/bluetooth_stack.rar
    3. Nvidia display driver GeForce Go 6600
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/nvidia97.52.rar
    4. Texas FlashMedia controller
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/flasmedia.rar
    And finally the Toshiba utilities:
    Toshiba Configfree
    Toshiba Assist
    RAID utilities
    Remote control manager
    Toshiba SD Memory utilities
    That's it...
So I must tell to you that Toshiba Qosmio G20 is Windows Vista Ultimate capable, indeed.
Hope this helps people who need and want to install Windows Vista Aero on their Qosmio G20 machines.

1 Backup your personal files and important data to a removable device, CD, DVD, flashmedia, pendrive, etc...
2.Check your Qosmio player installation. if nedeed, reinstall it with the latest version (multilanguage), posted on Toshibas site (download drivers section).
3.Download and copy the Toshiba RAID drivers to a removable media
Please, download the Toshiba RAID drivers from here:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/raid.rar
4.To perform a fresh install of Windows Vista, Follow the steps below
-1. Copy the contents of this archive onto a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive.
-2. Insert your Microsoft Windows Vista Edition Bootable DVD.

-13. Make sure the TOSHIBA RAID driver is selected then press "Next".
-14. Continue the installation of Windows Vista as normal.
    5. Go to Microsoft update and download all important updates available. If you wish you can install your native language, if other than English, from the Microsoft site.
let Windows install all the drivers found for your Qosmio G20.
    6. Reboot your machine and follow with the steps below.
    DRIVERS YOU MUST INSTALL:
    1. Alps pointing device driver (This is from Alps and working fine with your Qosmio G20)
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/alpsdriver.rar
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmioalps.jpg
During the installation, Windows will complain that you are installing an early device driver. Do not attempt to this, Install it anyway.
This is because the Windows driver for this device is originally installed with a more recent date and version from that you are trying to install.
But the driver posting here is the correct from the Alps for your Qosmio g20.

    3. Nvidia display driver GeForce Go 6600
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/nvidia97.52.rar
To install the nvidia 97.52, you must do it manually:
    open the Device manager
look for the Video adapter/nvidia Gforce go6600
    Driver update options
Look for a driver in computer
Choose a list of device drivers in computer
    With disc...
Lool for the place you've extracted the nvidia 97.52.rar
Find the nvts.inf and open it
You will come to the following screen:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmionvidiainstall.jpg
From a list choose your video card (go6600) and install it.
If you think it is difficult, please see the VIDEO Nvidiainstall.avi:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/nvidiainstall.rar
After the extraction, play it with Windows media Player
    4. Texas FlashMedia controller

5.SoundMAX integrated digital audio. Driver 5.12.1.5410
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/soundmax5.12.1.5410.rar
run the setup.exe and at first remove the driver you have installed on your Qosmio G20.
    reboot the computer
Run the setup.exe again and install the new driver. At some install point, Windows Vista will need a confirmation, if you trust Analog devices incorporated to goes on..
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiosoundmaxinstall.jpg
Continue with the installation and after finishing the process, test the functionallity of the new driver
    OR
If your G20 model is using the Sigmatel HD audio chipset, so you must install other driver than the Soundmax integrated digital audio
It is the SigmaTel HD Audio Driver for Windows Vista Version: 6.10.0.5324

  • Qosmio G20-102: RAID problem when installing windows xp media center

First I didn't find the raid driver for my qosmio. I tried another Qosmio G20's RAID driver but when it reachs the stage when I ask windows to format the C driver it shows me an error. It says that it finds an error in the file KR10N and it ends there.
please help me and thank you.

    Hi
It seems that the Qosmio G20-102 belongs to the PQG20E series.
Searching on the Toshiba European driver page I found the RAID driver v1.03.0008 for Windows XP MCE (can be used also with XP Pro).
You will need an external USB FDD to include this driver into the OS.
But note; after the RAID driver installation you shouldnt format the HDD or create a new partition because this will delete the RAID driver from the HDD and the OS installation fails!
I hope I could help you would also appreciate a feedback ;)
    Best regards

  • Qosmio G20 and Windows 7

    Hi there,
I've got an old Qosmio G20-115 that uses the RAID controller for the two hard disks. I've tried installing both Windows 7 (RC1) and Windows Vista but I'm always getting stuck at the point of Windows installation detecting the hard drives. After reading various reports from this forum and other sources around the web, I've tried on numerous occassions to get the installation to detect the disks using drivers from various different sources but to no avail.
Is there something more fundamental I'm getting wrong? What should the RAID settings be set to in the BIOS when trying to install an OS? Has anyone managed to get Windows 7 (RC1) working on their G20? Has anyone got some drivers that they've tested and managed to get Vista/Windows 7 onto their G20-115s?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Boarder,
Thanks for your reply. The G20 is old, but the hardware (aside from the RAID controller) is still very generic isn't it? Is there a specific piece that won't work with Windows 7?
List of drivers I've tried so far (both XP & vista)

All to no avail. I've even tried installing Vista but keep getting the exact same issue - none of the drivers seem to pick up the hard drives.
    Thanks.

  • Qosmio G20-156 running slowly after system restore

please help since my son crashed my pc and i restored it with the cd that came with the machine im having problems with screensaver running slowly and some programs running slowly like nero vision which was fine before. i tried all the usual stuff like lowering graphics acceleration but no joy please help
    e-mail me at [email protected]
    my machine is a qosmio g20-156 pqg21e

    Hi
The screensaver is running slowly??? I dont know what you mean but possibly some pictures or anything moves slowly. So I dont think that this has something to do with the hardware but more with the screensaver settings as suggested above.
The Qosmio is a very powerful notebook and a application such screensaver cannot be a problem.
But Silas gives you a very nice advice. Check the background processes and disable not necessary applications which starts at the beginning

  • Widcomm 5.0.1.1200 drivers on Qosmio G20-127

Is there any possibility to install Widcomm Bluetooth software drivers on Qosmio G20-127? I want to use them instead of Toshiba and Microsoft Bluetooth stacks. I have modified btwusb.inf file in Widcomm 5.0.1.1200 with my own PID and VID (taken from Toshiba inf file) but I am unable to install the drivers yet.

I looked into it, You can force windows to use the widcomm drivers, But there is a chance you will completley muck everything up. I read on a forum that a system restore wouldnt fix the toshiba bluetooth after trying the drivers.
I found a site where they are discuss the problems in more detail.
Where they keep updated on the current drivers
    http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=563654
and where they tell you about bugs that may occur when installing.

my bluetooth works perfect, so im not about to try anything, but good luck..

  • Qosmio G20 Beeping a lot and dimming screen - why?

Occasionally my Qosmio G20 starts beeping a lot and reducing the brightness on the screen.
This happens while it is running on AC power and with the power option set to highest level.
Simoultanesly there are some blue lights above the keyboard that starts blinking.
The only way to stop this behaviour is to press the key below the blinking blue light, and then go to the control panel an manipulate the power settings. To do that, I have to change the brightness, press apply, restore the brightness and press apply again. After that it may work for a long time before the next incident.
I have the latest Windows updates, I have an anti virus installed, and I have spyware removers installed, so I don't think any of those are to be suspected.
Usually this happens while the PC is playing a movie, but occasionaly it happens while I am playing a game or when I use it for work.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    regards
    Olav

    Hi
I would recommend to check the Toshiba power saver.
Select your power mode and check the setup action settings.
Please check the Alarm level settings.
You should take a look also on the basic setup. There you can check the screen brightness.
Please be sure that the unit uses the Toshiba power saver schemes in the Windows power options properties.

  • Qosmio G20 - Error extraction failed THotkey

    Hello,
I have a Toshiba Qosmio G20 At the opening I have a message
    Extraction failed THotkey
    Error code 0X00031402, 0x00000002
I click OK, the window disappears
I read the topics for this pb
    I ran the antivirus
    I ran Spybot
I created a shortcut in start THotkey.ex: negative
I did find msconfig nothing works
I did 2 system restores to 2 different dates: nothing works
in addition to what this THotkey??
    Does anyone has a solution?
    thanks

    Hello
It is not easy to say what is wrong there. On old Qosmios there are preinstalled hotkey utilities for display devices and also Wireless hotkey. So I dont know which one is troublemaker.
Try to install both of them again but before you do this try to install Common modules.
If this will not help Im afraid there is some problem in registry entries.
BTW: check also if some of these tools are listed in software list. If yes, you can try to remove it from the system and after restart install all three tools.

    Hello Pattayamad,
    About your question:
Hi...I'm so confused!!!!....please can someone advise me......Been reading all the posts on this.....What is the best way to Connect G20-139 running Vista Home to a HD Plasma?????........
Right now you will not be able to connect your Qosmio g20 to a high definition TV. Not because the Qosmio, but because you are running Windows Vista on it. The actual nvidia drivers are not working properly to enable the Scan progressive output to your Plasma TV. You can use only the Svideo output, which is not so good. Lets wait for the new graphic drivers for the geforce go6600.
Can i buy a D-video to HDMI cable (searched the net but not sure on what i'm looking for in a cable...LOL).....any help please....i'm no expert!!!!
No, there is not a D-video to HDMI available. You can use the D-video to component cable (red, green and blue RCAs) or you can buy the SCART adapter to component, and use the cable supplied with your notebook (D-video to SCART) with this adapter.
but , if you want to output Scan progressive resolutions with the video component cable, you must use the windows media Center 2005 OS. Not working with Vista.

  • Qosmio G20: Can't read Roco brand DVD+RW disc

I have Roco brand 8x DVR+R and the Q G20 wont recognize the disc. I think it may be due to the Brand Roco since the Sony DVD+RW works fine except I cant save the video from the Sony to my HD.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

I have solved this problem using Sonic Record Now!
I was able to copy my DVD using the Sonic Record Now that came with my Qosmio G20 to a Roco Brand DVD +RW. Once I made a copy of the orignal DVD, it did not work until I closed the Record Now and opened my media player. I could open using Real, Windows Media Player and WinDVD. None of these programs could read the DVD prior to recording and they could not format the disc.
    Thanks

  • Re: Qosmio G20 blocked on JBOD in the BIOS

    Hi,
I have a problem with the Toshiba Qosmio G20-109 .
The system does not start, the two hard drives in JBOD (unable to start Windows).
    HDD1 - 120GB
    HDD2 - 250GB
So I wanted to put the first HDD 1 1RAID-0 using the method described in the manual : I entered the code 1 2 3 4 and I pressed Enter.
The problem is that once entered the BIOS code remained frozen and blocked.
I tried everything , I 'm not despairing by reaching install an OS.
I hope there is a solution.

    It's simple.
    1RAID-0: HDD 1
    JBOD: HDD 2
DVD Drive does not boot a modified Windows. I had an official version that starts but does not have the driver.
I created a CD with the driver using nLite but he did not recognize.
I found on the internet a CD Win XP SP3 Toshiba OEM.
Miraculously, he possessed the RAID drivers and recognized the hard drives that allowed me to install Windows.
I installed Windows on the HDD 1 and I just formatted the HDD 2.
Thereafter, I installed Windows 7 with the driver.
    Toshiba RAID: 1.11.17
    Toshiba RAID Virtual Device: 1.1.0.0
I updated the firmware of the DVD drive : D100> D101> D102 it allowed me to start the CD created with nLite.
All drivers are up to date for Windows 7.
Only the buttons to the TV does not work (touch keys) !!

Got a Qosmio G20-117 english version Running windows MCE 2005
Just bought a new logitech MX5000 keyboard mouse set for use with it and i have found out that the bluetooth module inside needs a different driver or something for the whole of the logitech settings to be able to work. The mouse and keyboard connect using the supplied logitch bluetooth adaptor however this is a bit pointless if i already have bluetooth inside! The mouse and keyboard can be connected by the qosmio but the settings are not accessible.

  • Qosmio G20 - sound and tv tuner drivers (digital)

    Hello all,
I recently purchased a Qosmio G20 (490ls) in Japan and have had nothing but problems thus far.
The original OS that came bundled with the computer was Windows XP Home (Japanese). I can not read Japanese but I have an English version of Windows XP MCE so I didn't think this would be an issue.
I could not install it correctly so I handed it over to a tech and he accidently wiped everything (the OS, drivers etc) and I do not have a recovery disk from the original.
Anyways I gave it to a new tech to install and they are almost finished except they are missing 2 drivers --- the sound driver and the tv tuner driver. The European drivers are analog and do not work on the Japanese version, however, it needs digital drivers.
I am in desperate need of a "digital sound driver" and a "digital tv tuner driver", if anyone could help me out or point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated =)
    Thank you

    Hello Michael
I am very happy that you are there. Maybe you can give us very useful information. I have heard that just TV tuner from Japan can be used in whole world without any standard restriction.
Do you know something about that?
Maybe it is the reason why you can not configure it properly. I am pretty sure that the driver for your unit is designed just for Japanese market and it is possible that our European driver doesnt work properly. Check the driver from US download site

  • Qosmio G20: How to get rid of large, green on-screen volume display?

    Hi,
I have a Qosmio G20 which i bought in Japan last year and have since changed it over to English operating system and drivers. However one thing ive noticed that is different from the Japanese set up is that everytime i adjust the Volume level using the wheel on the right hand side of the laptop, a large green Volume level display comes up on the screen. I want to get rid of this cos it takes up nearly half of the screen. The Japanese version didnt have this problem.
I checked all the settings in Control Panel and various Properties sections as well but couldnt find anything.
Any suggestions how to remove it? Any other Qosmio users have this on their screen?
    Thanks.

OK, here's how the volume bar works in all Media Center (2004-2005) and how to change it :
Create a .txt file with the following :
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Media Center\VolumeDisplay]
    "Disable"=dword:00000000
    "FontSize"=dword:00000024
    "Color"=dword:00ffffff
    "Timeout"=dword:000003e8
    Don't include the --------
Now here are what the settings do:
Disable: (enable or disable the volume bar)
    - 00000000 (bar is shown)
    - 00000001 (bar is hidden)
FontSize: (decide the font sized used to display the word "volume")
    - 00000024 is font size 36 (it's hexadecimal value), for exemple 00000014 is fontsize 20, etc..
Color: (the color of the control bar and of the word "volume")
00ffffff corresponds to white, 00000000 corresponds to black. also hexadecimal.
If you want an easy way to find out, just check the color you want in HTML:
If HTML is #00AAFF for exemple, then you need to put value 00FFAA00, or for HTML #556677, the value will be 00776655
Timeout: (it represent the duration of displaying the volume bar)
    000003e8 corrsponds to 1000 ms = 1 seconde. For exemple, 1,5 second is 000005dc, or 2 second is 000007d0
So replace accordingly the above with the value that you like, save as "bar.reg" then double click on it and reboot the PC!
Enjoy, it was quite a hassle to find those keys because they don't exist initially! (and because for each try, I must reboot.. :/ )

  • Qosmio G20 wakes from hibernation for no apparent reason

    Greetings All,
For a while now I have noticed that my Qosmio G20 tends to wake from hibernation at random times for no apparent reason. When I place it into hibernation overnight it successfully transitions into a hibernation state but (usually) after a few hours suddenly wakes from said state for no reason.
Obviously this isn't a critical issue but I do prefer to hibernate whenever practicable (as opposed to standby) and it is rather annoying to awoken at 4:00am by the Qosmio's triumphant burst of music (still it's better than windows 'ta da!' :P)
    Any ideas?
    Kindest,
    Lee.

There is indeed such an option available on screen 1 of the BIOS setup, unfortunately it is presently set as disabled so I guess that isn't the cause of my woes. :(
Thanks for replying though, always nice to learn a new thing. ;)
    Lee.
