Restrict Component in a BOM from Planning

HI Techies,
I have a specific requirement where my client uses Phantom as a component in BOM and they are materials which does not require to be planned for the Components of the Phantom too. They had the flexilibility of using them with Qty = 0 in order to restrict them from planning in their curren ERP System.
But SAP does not allow to create a component with qty = 0 and they don want to use text item as they are phantom with a lot of components in them.
Can you please guide me with any possible solution to restrict the Explosion of Phantom and restrict the Components from planning scheduling and costing?

From your advices and few other Forums i have done the below scenario
I had three requirement for a Semifinished material to be restricted for Planning, Scheduling and Costing
The Structure of my material is as below
Finished Good
   -->   - Dummy Semifinshed Material
>>                            - Component 1
   --> - Real Semifinshed Material
>>                            - Raw Material 1
>>                            - Raw Material 2
Restriction for MRP:
I created the Dummy Semifinshed material with the MRP Type - ND so that it does not plan for the respective material as well as the component1 that belongs to the semifinshed material as mentioned above.
Restriction for Scheduling:
I created a Controk key which does not have Scheduling selected for it. Created a Dummy Operation with the control key and Assigned the Dummy Semifinished Material to that Operation.
Restriction for Costing:
Selected Do not cost indicator in the Material Master Costing tab for the Dummy Semifinished material and also in the BOM for the Finished Good, Selected the Component Dummy Semifinshed and Made the relevant to costing indicator as Empty.
Hi Techies i feel this might work the requirement. But should i need to think or care about anything which will be spoiled because of the above logic.
Please advice me.

Thanks again for your reply. I was trying to CIF sales BOM in APO but only the header material are being created in APO. The component are not added in PDS. This is how I create it in SAP R/3:
1. transaction cs01 --> enter header material, plant and BOM USAGE =5
2. inside cs01, i entered components, quantity for each components and ITEM category = L (stock item)
i also eneterd base quantity for header material
3. create production version for header material with routing and this BOM
4. create and activate material CIF model for header and components
5. create and activate PDS CIF model for header and components.
After doing all these steps, PDS is created in APO but I only have the header material (no components)
I tried changing BOM to other bom usage and components were populated in PDS.
Am i missing nay steps? Thanks.

How to transfer Sales BOM from ECC to APO DP

Hi,
Demand planning require Sales BOM from ECC. Sales BOM in ECC will not have Routing & Work center, then how a PPM with Sales BOM can be transferred. If i have to create a dummy routing & WC for those sales BOM it will be tidious job to create all the master data. Is there any way to transfer the BOM alone from ECC to APO.
Please throw some light on it.

Are you sure about ciffing Sales BOM(usage 5)to APO as PDS ? Did you test it or your comments are based on SAP documentation?
I tried to CIF Sales BOM as SNP PDS, it is creating PDS with only parent item.Child items are missing.I have not used any production version here.
If i use production BOM(usage 1), it is creating PDS with both parent and child items.I have not used any production version here also.
SAP says BOMs can be ciffed to APO as PDS. No productions versions are required. but it has not mentioned about BOM's usage. May be , Is it by default production BOM?
One more question, Is it possible to create production version with BOM usage 5? It has no meaning right..
I think system does not allow you to create production version with BOM usage 5.
I also tried with BOM usage 2. In this case also it behaves like sales BOM.
looks like only production BOM can be ciffed with proper BOM structure in APO.

Plant specific component views in BOM

Hi,
I have 2 Plants say, A and B. I have a Product say P which has several components C1, C2, C3 ...
I wish to create a single centralized BOM with all the components. However, Plant A should be able to view components C1 and C2 only whereas Plant B should be able to view components C2 and C3 only.
When I make changes in the centralized BOM, the change should be reflected in the respective Plant views accordingly. I do not want to create BOMs individually at each Plants for the Product.
I tried using Group BOM and Plant Assignment, but not able to restrict component visibility as required above. I tried using Effectivity Filter using Effective Parameter as Plant. But doesn't seem to work ...
Is there any simpler way ...?

Creating Production Order from Planned Order

Hi,
We are trying to use the BAPI 'BAPI_PRODORD_CREATE_FROM_PLORD' to create Prod. Orders. But it is failing with the message, 'Cannot be saved. Maintain serial no.' Now, the problem is there is no input parameter in this BAPI for providing the serial numbers. Our current Z program manually generates the Serial Numbers and uses BDC for 'CO48' to create the Prod. Order but has a horrible performance and for that reason we are trying to switch to BAPI instead).
Now, the question is how best to achieve this objective: Use the BAPI to generate Prod. Orders from Planned orders with user-given serial numbers when there is no input option in the BAPI?
I think of couple of options but not sure how good they are:
1) Can we create/attach the serial numbers to the equipment/material first and then create production orders?
2) Use implicit enhancement to add another parameter to BAPI and use it instead. This one seems little technically complicated because the BAPI itself calls tons of other programs (including CO48) to create Prod. Orders so the right place to insert the numbers might be difficult.
Any clues how to solve this problem would be appreciated..

REM manufacturing is simpler way to book the production.
What is needed for REM is first question.
1) REM profile
2) Material on REM with this profile and REM tick
3) Have normal BOM and routings/ rate routings and work center
4) Define Production Version
5) Define Product Cost Collector on which all costs are booked whenever you do your confirmation thro MFBF
Having defined these master, once you run MRP you get planned order of PE type. It was earlier also callled as RS i.e Run Schedule.
By using MFBF, backflushing transaction can book the production. REM is period based type of production booking unlike discrete where you make a production order of particular material for some dates, it is lot based production booking.

Thanks for the reply . if i dont give them essbase write role user cant submit data through smartview or Excel addin. at the same users want to see adhoc reports making connection in smartview through planning, then users can send data.
1. I want users to restrict export dataform to smartview, if they can export dataform to smartview it automatically makes connection using planning and users can pretty much change data.
2. is there any way to restrict users making connection through planning in smartview.
3. when users make smartview connection through essbase, the secuirty works fine and they cant change the data.

Routing not getting copied from planned order to production order

Hi PP gurus,
I have created BOM & Routing for Fert material.Both are valid from 19.05.2008.
When am converting planned order to production order today i.e. 20.05.2008 am getting a pop up ''no task list maintained for the material''.
When i check in CA03 & CA02 for the same material , system gives pop up no task list maintained for the material .
In CA01 , for the same material it shows routing is available & asks to create for 2nd counter.
Pls. throw some light on this as am stucked .

You would have created this FERT material Routing in the same group counter of any other material. So while creating it will show the same group counter number of other material.
Delete the existing FERT routing and recreate the Routing for FERT with different group counter.
Now you convert from plan order to prod order. Then the system will allow.

Change a Material A from Planning at APO( XO ) to MRP (PD)

if i change a material from planning at APO to R3, what is the impact that i need to prepare ?
do i need to delete the planned order at APO for the material and set the deletion flag for the material at APO or delete the material.
Do i need to set a C5 to delete the APO planned order at R/3?

Hi,
When you change the material MRP type from X0 to PD, the integration model stops integrating the material between R/3 and APO meaning any changes done to the material or the BOM or routing or orders or any where the material is referenced is not integrated any more.
So, just to be safe, before changing the MRP type, go to transaction WUF ( where used Function) in APO and search for all orders.
Depending on your configuration, usually PPDS orders are set to immediate transfer to R/3 but SNP orders are set to periodic. So in both the cases, you have to delete the material using program /sapapo/rlcdelete with selection deletion in R/3 and APO or send deletion. If it is SNP order, you need to run the transaction /sapapo/C5 to push the changes/deletion.
Then you can change the MRP type to PD from X0.
So after you change the MRP type, create and activate your integration model again. Check in CFM2 to make sure the material is not being picked up any more by the relevant integration models.
Then it's up to you to keep or delete the APO product master.
The orders generated for this material are also no longer integrated.

Storage Locations from Planning

Hi Gurus,
I want to avoid some storage locations from Planning, if any dependent requirements come specif for those storage locations I want no procrurement proposals to be made. how to do that.

1) In MMSC transaction there is a setting -MRP select 1 storage location stock excluded from MRP
2) In MRP View 2 or in Bom item Maintain the Production storage location fied with is specific storage location.Your sceanrio will work

If user have Read permission, they can copy it. So actually you cannot restrict user from copy your files if they could read/edit.
Some programs could help restrict users from edit/modify/copy the content of their files such as Office files, PDF files etc as Oscar said above.

Automatically trigger the event to load data from Planning cube to Standard Cube

We have a below set up in our system..
1. A Planning BEx query using which user makes certain entries and writes back data to the planning cube.
2. An actual reporting cube which gets data from the planning cube above.
Now, what we want to do is to automate the data load from Planning cube to Reporting cube.
This involves 2 things..
1. Change the setting " Change real time load behaviour " of the planing cube to Planning.
2. Trigger the DTP which loads data from Planning cube to reporting cube.
We want to automate the above two steps...
I have tried few things to achieve the same..
1. Created an event in SM64,
2. In the Planning cube "Manage" Screen, clicked on "Subsequent Processing" and provided the event details. ( Not sure if its the correct place to provide the event detail ).
3. Wrote a ABAP program which changes the setting of the planning cube ( " Change real time load behaviour " to Loading )
4. Created a process chain, where we have used the event as a start variant, used the ABAP program as a next step, DTP run as the last step..
This i hoped, would trigger the event as soon as a new request comes and sits in planning cube, which in turn would trigger the process chain which would load the data from Planning cube to reporting cube..
This is not working. I dont think the event is triggering, and even if does i am not sure whether it will start the process chain automatically. Any ideas please ?

How to write data from planning folder into a planning cube in BPS

Hi All,
I have an issue in writing data from planning folder to planning cube.
I updated the excel sheet in planning folder in UPSPL tcode.
After clicking on save button in the excel sheet the data did not get updated into the cube.
I set the real time cube to planning mode.
Please let me know if there are any settings to save the data to cube or how can it be done.

Don't you find a yellow request in the cube administration transaction ? What happened if you set it to green ?

Can you access that address on the machine hosting planning?
The file structure on the web server depending on which app server you use should be something like \Hyperion\deployments\Tomcat5\HyperionPlanning\webapps\HyperionPlanning\help\en\hp_information_map\hp_information_map.html

Hi We are using Oracle EBS 11i, we are having problem that when one of our finished Product moved from one org to another we are not be able to copy and we have to do manually enetr each line of BoM in new Org,
Any one can help me to find out the solution which will help us to copy one BoM from Orag 1 to Org 2.

Hi Umair,
While using the copy option, go to the org where bill is not present.
Enter the Parent Item in the header and go to tools--> copy bill from
There you can select the org from which bill needs to be copied.
Also make sure your responsibility has organization access to those inventory orgs.
