Restrict/disable ability to turn on auto download of apps

Hello!
Is there a way to restrict the ability to turn on the auto download of apps onto the iPad?  It seems like this may be a big oversight, unless I am missing this setting on the iPad itself or the iPhone Config Util.
THanks,
-Josh

Turn it off in the settings - Settings>Store>Automatic Downloads>Apps>off.
If you want to restrict downloading of apps - then enable restrictions - Settings>General>Restrictions>Enable Restrictions, enter a passcode and then restrict downloading of apps.

  • Group Policy to disable ability to turn off wireless networking in Windows 8.1 Update

I am wanting to disable the ability to turn off wireless networking in our Windows 8.1 Update clients using Group Policy. We are a school that runs classroom management software enabling the teachers to view what the students have on their screens.
Students just switch off their wireless to avoid detection. I have searched the Group Policy listings and can't find anything.
    Thanks.

    Hi  GeoffAUS,
I can’t find a direct group policy to disable the users’ ability to turn off the wireless network in Windows 8.1.
If we just disable the display of wireless connection, we will need to additionally disable the ability that disabling the driver in device manager.
We could try the workaround to use UAC to control the wireless connection.
Go to Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security Settings->Local Policy->Security Options, and set the option
User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for standard users.
Please make sure the computer automatically connect to Wireless.

  • HELP!! How do I turn off auto download on my Apple TV ?

Fellow Apple TV users. I presently have a limited download max of 500MB during the day except for 2-6 am when I program my computer to download my purchased iTunes content.
For some reason, after the last update, my Apple TV is automatically downloading my purchased content. This uses up my limited download quota and I am penalized to the point where I have to wait 3-5 min. just to see the Google homepage. Very frustrating !! I NEED to turn off the auto download function on the Apple TV so I can go back to my old system.
Can anyone help me with this ?
    Thanks

other than disconnecting it from the network, no i don't believe there is.

  • HT1491 How do i turn off auto download for videos i buy from iTunes on my iPad?

I do not want to auto download tv shows (especially entire HD season passes) purchased from iTunes on my iPad.
I see the setting for music, apps or books, but not for videos
    Anyone know how?

No, I said bought on iTunes with my iPad. A computer was not used.  I bought season 1 of the Waliking Dead and my iPad auto queued all 6 episodes in HD for download. I do not want to download 36 gigs of video... I just want to watch them on my Apple TV.
In retrospect, I should have just bought them on my Apple TV or desktop and not my iPad.
But now the videos are in my dl queue and I can't cancel the dl, only pause.

  • Ability to turn on cell data for apps is not available

So, my girlfriend and I believe that we have run into an interesting issue with which we need help.  We had updated her iPhone 5 to iOS 8.2 a few weeks back. After that, it seemed to be mostly ok as she got used to the new system.  We had updated the system for her because she was having issues with constantly going over her data on her cell plan, so after the update, I turned her cell data off on each app as it became available to do so.  We noticed that, for some reason, those switches would flip over again and again for no reason, but we would just turn them off again.  Over the weekend, she was able to switch the button to allow maps to use cell data, as we were in an area that we have never driven in before, and then she turned the data back off for that app, with no problems.  Yesterday, however, she was by herself in a similar situation. When she went to turn on the cell data for maps, she found that the option was no longer there; and not only for maps - the only options to turn on are for facetime and passbook. She could not even turn on cell data for the App Store so that she could download google maps instead.  Can someone please help to get this back? So far, we have tried combinations of turning overall cell data on and off, LTE on and off, powering off the phone, soft (home/lock together) reset, restoring/upgrading to iOS 8.3 and then bringing everything back through a restore of data.  The last thing I have is doing a full reset and starting from scratch, but I am hoping that there is something else that we can do before that.

No, Detect Displays had no effect. However, I made the USB connection from the ACD to the iMac after the system was on. Following a re-start, all controls are available. Thank you for your response.

  • I forgot my restrictions password,so i was unable to download any apps or songs and unable to sync

i forgot my restictions password.. so i was unable to sync my phone, unadble to download apps and songs...

The only way to remove the restrictions password without actually remembering it is by restoring via iTunes. You may even need to do it in recovery mode, but I'm not completely sure about that part.

  • I'm trying to turn on automatic downloads, but I see an alert that says 'This device is already associated with an apple ID.'

I recently bought a new ipod 4 gen 32 G. I had an 8 g .I'm trying to turn on automatic downloads so when I buy a song from Itunes it automatically downloads without plugging it into computer to sync.  When I turn on Auto Downloads, It say...This device is already Associated with an apple ID You can auto-download purchases on this device with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this device with a different Apple ID for 30 days. When I click OK it turns th downloads off..Can someone help me? I've returned the 8g to regular factory settings as I'm giving it to a friend.

    You have to wait. See:
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
You can still sync the media from your iTunes library

  • 2 iTunes libraries on one iMac - can't get around auto download for both devices

recently switched from Windows to MAC and happy sofar
I have an iPAD for a while, synced to an iTunes library with my apple-id on my iMac.
My son got an iPod touch for christmas.  He has his own apple-id and I want everything kept seperate (he not messing around with my credit card info and I don't want all his fancy games in my library).
So he has his seperate user account on the iMac - seperate iTunes library - seperate apple-id.
    So far so good...
But when I want to turn on auto download on his user, I get this famous message, that this computer is already associated with an other apple-id (sure, my id from my user account)
And I don't dare to switch it to his id because I am afraid that I would not be able to use auto download on my user account with my id.
Seams that the id is not linkt to a user account on a computer but to the physical computer itself.
I did a lot of research and the information I found is that the official and easiest way to use two devices for different persons with their own apple-id is to set up seperate user accounts with seperate itunes libraries.
So we keep everything seperate, the only issue is we are using two accouunts that happen to be on one machine.
Since I am a new MAC user, is there anything I am missing? Any config /setting that is not correct yet?
How are families with just one computer supposed to use individual apple-ids?
    Thanks
    Peter
    (iTunes 10.5.2)

    addition:
I know about the article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
Method one suggests to set up two user accounts. This is just what I did, but it is still not working...
    What am I making wrong?

  • Itunes 11.4.0.18 crashes everytime it tries to download the app Tink

My iTunes started crashing a few seconds after start.
After some troubleshooting i have found at its trying to download an app I have on my iPhone that causes it to crash.
It’s a financial app called Tink.
The only workaround I can think of is starting iTunes when the computer isn't connected to the internet. But there must be something to do! Can I force itunes to download the app from my phone?
Can I somehow make it NOT trying to auto download the app (turning off the option to download purchases from other devices does not resolve this)?
I’ve tried starting itunes in safemode and I have performed a repair of the installation.

It's very simple ....just open iTunes and then you will be able to see a Library Tab on your right hand side ...just click on down arrow appearing on Library icon, a drop down will appear then click on apps from that drop down. It will move you to another page containing apps, here you can delete just by right clicking or you can also select an app and press delete button to remove app from iTunes.

  • I just bought 2 mini ipads for daughers plus my ipad we use same apple id and now every time i download an app in one of the mini ipad it will download in my ipad 2 and in the other mini ipad what can i do to stop this?.

Help me i just bouth 2 mini ipads and now everythig my daugher download in one mini is downloading in the other and in my ipad 2 we have the same apple id for the 3 ipads

    Do two things:
    1.  In Settings > iTunes & App Stores, turn off automatic downloads for Apps.
    2.  Assuming you sync using iTunes, turn off the automatic app syncing on the App tab when you have the iPads connected that should not receive the downloads.

  • Why do the auto download switches turn off in app store/settings on iPad2

In settings/app store there are three auto download switches. When I turn them on they immediately turn back off on my iPad 2

    Try resetting the iPad Brian...
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that didn't help, make sure Restrictions are not enabled. Settings > General > Restrictions

  • How to turn off email auto download?

    Hi All,
I'm running Tiger (10.4) on one hard drive and I'm running Leopard (10.5) on another - working on familiarizing myself and looking for problems. 10.4 uses Mail.app 2.1.3 while 10.5 uses Mail.app 3.5.
With Mail 3.5 - I've been unable to find a way to switch from auto-downloading of emails in favor of "Manual." This "feature" of auto-dowloading emails has always bugged me (a lot). So I use "Manual" downloading with v. 2.1.3. and want the same "sanity" with 3.5.
Secondary problems: I notice that 3.5 cannot verify the certificate of my ISP Pop server and keeps warning me "this may be a fake certificate" and gives me options to "stop" or "connect." Geez, there's no doubt about the SAME certificate when using Mail.app 2.1.3.
Also, it appears that Mail 3.5 is taking "forever" to send (upload) image attachments. I haven't had a chance to really track this down, but it seems like Mail may be converting every .jpg file to .png - which increases file size. I watched the Activity window and saw upload speeds of from 0 to 2.7 kbs - but suddenly the indicator bar jumps ehead and the mail is sent.
Any have any idea how to stop auto-downloading of emails with Mail.app 3.5?
Any further help with those secondary problems will also be appreciated.
    TX in advance.

Thanks Klaus1 - it's interesting to see that Apple designers still have not caught on to the idea that "icons" for important things need to be distinguishable from one another.
That is, the icon for the overall preferences panel (in 10.4) looks a whole lot like the icon used for Mail 3.5 prefs (in 10.5) and it's located in the same spot as overall prefs on Mail 2.1.5. So I naturally thought the icon on 3.5 was for "overall prefs" and ignored it. Thanks Apple, for letting your employees take so many naps during their work shifts.
You get a "helpful" for your post. Now if I can get responses on the slow upload (on DSL) by Mail.app and figure out why it doesn't recognize my (national based) ISP's certificate, I'll be a happy camper.
