Restricted Account - Can't access mail

Hello: I have set up a restricted internet and mail account for my son. Under system prefs, Accounts, I have mail and safari checked. I added a few email addresses for my son to the "accepted" list. When I log into his side of the computer, only Safari shows up, not mail.
He wants to be able to receive a few emails from friends, but I can't find the app on his side.

Welcome To Discussions design2k7!
Some background information will be needed before
anyone can assist you.
Exactly which Mac model G4 do you have?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is
available?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or
added?
What has happened since the last time you were able
to access the applications?
Have you made any changes to the OS, upgraded, added
or updated any programs or applications?
Have there been any unusual occurences like a system
crash, power outage, application freeze, force quit,
etc?
And anything else you can think of!

Power mac G4 (tower)
57.14 GB available: 7GB (I know...)
1GBram (original)
I shut down the system (instead of sleep) over the thanksgiving holiday
I had also added a wacom tablet the same day-I have since removed it and have been using the original mouse
No unusual system problems, crashes, etc.
It seems to be only operating system applications, I can't even use the calculator
thanks!

  • ITunes accounts can be accessed under one User but not a second User.

    Hi
I'm having problems setting up iTunes on a new PC I've recently purchased. On my old PC - (Vista), myself (David) and my wife (Chris) had different Windows Users accounts, both with separate iTunes accounts which we could access with no problems.
On my new Pc (Windows 7) I have downloaded iTunes and can access my iTunes account with my ID and password when the PC is logged in as 'David' as the User, as can my wife BUT when the PC the PC is logged in as my wife as the  User 'Chris' neither of us can access our iTunes account with our relative ID and passwords. We get the message.. "The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.".
I have seen this sentence on Google and on various forums including this one but cannot find a solution which fits my problem which is our iTunes accounts can be accessed when the PC is logged in under one User but not a second User.
Has anyone have ideas to attempt to resolve this issue?
    Thank you

  • I took Lion off my Macbook Pro and put Snow Leopard back on and now I can't access Mail or iPhoto. How do I get Mail and iPhoto to work with the Snow Leopard I just put back on?

Hi. I was having slowness problems with my Macbook Pro and thought I would re-install Lion but put Snow Leopard back on by mistake. I bought the computer used with Lion on it and don't have access to the USB drive or a username/password to reinstall Lion. Now I can't access Mail or iPhoto since I put Snow Leopard on.
Is there a way to get my Mail and iPhoto working again with Snow Leopard or do I have to "re-upgrade" to Lion?
    Thanks!
    Steve

You can't. When you converted those libraries to Lion's format, you lost the ability to go backwards. Unless you saved a bootable backup./clone or Time Machine backup of your previous SL installation, you're up the proverbial creek w/o a paddle.

The single download means that you won't be able to redownload it from the store without paying, either on a computer's iTunes or an iOS device - it doesn't stop you from copying the audiobook to your other computers or syncing it to your iOS devices, you just can't redownload it. (I believe that they are all supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them requiring the one-time download.)
You can download audiobooks on your computer's iTunes and sync them to iOS devices, you do not have to buy them directly on the device (if you do then you can copy them back to your computer's iTunes library by connecting the device and using the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option on your computer's iTunes).
What you are doing to sync them should work i.e.
    - connecting the iPad to your Mac
    - selecting the iPad on your Mac's iTunes
    - selecting its Books tab and selecting the audiobooks that you want to sync to the iPad and syncing/applying that selection.
You should then get an audiobooks option in the Music app on your iPad. If they aren't appearing there  then do they show in Settings > General > Usage > Music on the device - if you have audiobooks on the iPad then they should be listed there under an 'audiobooks' heading.
By 'restart the iPad' do you mean a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
You could also try closing its Music app via the iPad's taskbar : Force an app to close in iOS.
And do a soft-reset and retry syncing.
I assume that music and other items sync ok ?

  • One of my iCloud accounts can't get mail

I have 2 iCloud accounts, with Mail.app on my Mac configured to check them both from my main user account. The primary email address is fine. The other one has problems. It used to be a Mac.com additional address (not an alias), the kind that used to cost $10 extra. I converted it to an iCloud address when I moved to iCloud, and it has mostly worked until recently. I'd get the occasional spinning gear next to the mailbox, but mail would eventually show up. Today, The spinning gear is non-stop, and the account can't get mail. To check, I tried to log in to iCloud online with this account, and the same thing happens, endless spinning gear. What is going on, and how can I fix this?

I am having this problem too, I called Apple about it and was told they were having server problems, some were working and still some werent, My server...p04-smtp.mail.me.com , is one of those that is still screwed, I was told that it shouldnt be very long til its fixed but if its not tomorrow, to call back. its something that we cant do anything about

  • After upgrading my ipad 2 to iOS5 I can't access mail, contacts, calendars option

    Hi All,
Newbie here so please go easy!
My problem is that after upgrading my iPad 2 to iOS5 I can't access the mail, contacts, calendars option from general settings or even from the Mail program.  This is therefore preventing me from setting up anymore than one e-mail account.
Do I need to do a system reset / restore?  If so how do I do a system reset in particular?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Thanks for reply. Sorry for delay in responding, for some reason I wasn't able to respond using my iPad so am using my iPhone.
The restrictions have not been enabled at all, so I assume that this should not really make a difference. I also have an iPhone 4 and have upgraded this to iOS5 but have no issues accessing the Mail, Contacts, Calendar option from general settings. This also does not have restrictions enabled therefore appears to have the same setup as my iPad but with no problems.
Sorry once again for the delay in responding.
    Many thanks

  • Can't access mail in .mac program

Please help!!! As of 2 days ago, when I go to mac.mail program, I can't access any mail in inbox. I can go through the apple/mac program to see my mail. When I go into mail, it just shows an empty box. I can't get into any of the other folders either. And when I want to close mail, I have to force quiet. Any suggestions? I am sitting here in Yemen and have no access to Apple help.
Thanks for any help you can give me!

I don’t fully understand what you say. What are the “mac.mail” and the “apple/mac” programs? Are you saying that you have a .Mac account and that it works fine on the web, but Mail has some problems? Or do you mean something else?
How many mail accounts do you have what type are they (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?

  • Can't access mail, contacts, calendar tab will not open

I can not access my emails.  I updated my password on my PC and tried to updated my password for my email account on my iPad but when I go to the account settings page and tap on "mail, contacts, calendar" tab it will not open.  I have the original iPad and every since I downloaded iOS 5 I have had all sorts of  glitches on my iPad... Frustrating...

    Hey Paul,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. There are two options to assist with the issue, Reset All Settings or backup and restore the device and setup as new.
To Reset All Settings on the device: Settings > General > Reset All Settings
If you need to restore your iPad, the following article will assist with this.

  • Can't access mail messages?

For some reason I am unable to access my emails using the apple mail application. I know new mail has arrived because I checked on the email server but the mail application load wheel in the inbox just keeps on going and going until it stops and shows no new messages.
The total unread message count is also inaccurate. There are about 20 emails unread which were accurately displayed before and now it shows 43. I counted myself to make sure that there wasn't really that amount of new mail.
Does anyone know the sollution to this?
I know a couple days ago my wireless router (which I use to obtain internet) reset and is now somewhat slower when on the net but none the less am still able to surf the web and less speed should be required to access new mail messages.
Please let me know what I can do thatks.
    Dorian

    You’re welcome.
I re-created the index and it did not fix the unread count number.
Report the names of the files and folders present at the first level of the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folder.
In order to post the exact file names and avoid typing mistakes, proceed as follows. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/. With that folder open, if you’re looking at it in View > as List mode, first collapse any expanded folders so that the Finder only shows the files and folders at the first level. Now, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post.
Post also the contents of INBOX.mbox.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.
The problem is not due to internet connection though because I am
able to go on the internet and browse just fine.
A suboptimal Internet connection alone wouldn’t cause this, but it could have a bearing on it even if you can browse just fine, so it was something to look at anyway.
I went to get info on the mail account and it only displays the emails
in 2005 and one from today from sender unknown and unknown subject.
OK. That’s the problem then. Sometimes Mail chokes on a message it cannot download and that prevents it from downloading the rest as well. You’ll have to remove that message from the server in order to solve the problem.
Problem is, you cannot assume it’s junk just because Mail shows it as such in the Account Info window, so you should look at it by other means first in order to determine whether you want to keep it. Does this account allow web access? If not, you may try using another mail client such as Thunderbird.

  • Ipod touch Mail Blank Screen- can't access mail

    Hi,
When I try to open mail on my ipod touch, it opens a blank/black screen (still with the grey bar at the top with the time) but never comes up with the inbox or any menus to interact with (can't access my mail).
I recently added another imap account. Does it have troubles with too many messages or otherwise- surely it would say that rather than staying on a blank screen.
    Any thoughts?

Have you tried resetting your ipod by holding the Home & Sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo?

  • Can't access mail program'

I can't access my mail program on mac book air.
    OSX 10.9.5
i deleted 1300 emails at one time.  Since then each time I try to enter the mail program, I get kicked out.
I restarted the computer ,after several attempts to access the email program, but still have the problem.
I know my start up disk is almost full.
    What can I do now?

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside a photo or iTunes library will corrupt the library. Changes to such a library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.
