Restricted Distribution Question

I've been researching restricted and private distribution, mainly reading: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/digitalpublishingsuite/articles/restricted-distribution-with-d igital-publishing-suite.html
I understand you need an enterprise account for private distribution, but what about restricted?? Even in the link above I can't get a clear picture.
For example, can we get a Pro account, and create a publicly available multi-folio app... but then require a username and password to access additional folios. Therefore, we control who can download the folios within the app (ie: not have them publicly available per se)...?
We have a client that we've created a number of digital sales brochures for, but they are only for use by their sales force. Currently we're using the Adobe Viewer to distribute them "privately" to the sales force, but this has been troublesome and the user group is expanding too much globally. So, we need a method to distribute the sales brochures, but not have them available to the public. Enterprise level account is probably out of the question due to cost... so I'm hoping "restricted" distribution using the Pro account is possible!
If this won't work, any other suggestions would be more than welcome!

Thanks for the info everyone. I talked briefly with Adobe today and I agree the Enterprise account seems to be required for what we'd like to do, but at $50k+ per year, its out of my small media company's price range! They are supposed to talk to me about their agency solutions sometime soon... waiting for that Adobe person to call me.
I'm curious about what Richard brought up, the B2B store... does anyone know if its possible to publish (using a DPS Pro account) to the B2B app store instead of the "public" iTunes store??

Restricted distribution

Is it possible to restrict my content to certain users with the DPS Pro Edition?
I have a publication that only our clients (architects) are allowed to download and view.
Can I do this with the Pro Edition or do I need the Enterprise?

Adobe form distribution question

Form created in LiveCycle and distributed with Adobe Pro...3 choices for distribution.
1) Through Acrobat.com (which stores the responses on Adobe servers)
2) By email (This is not an option for me because these forms can not invoke an email client on submission from the user. --> group policy locked-down machines.)
3) To an internal server
Option 3 works great for me as long as the person submitting the form is on my LAN. The problem is that we have users not on the LAN submitting the form. My repository for the responses needs to be accessible from the internet.
What I tired:
Shared folder on server. Full permissions for "everyone" just to avoid that as a problem during configuration....
Folder web shared by IIS.
Trying to use the distribution wizard to set this up for that folder. It wants a UNC path but that will not work for external users and no matter what http path I put in there is tells me it is unable to create the shared folder....
Obviously, if the forms can distribute and submit to Acrobat.com then they can submit to my own server. The question is how can I do this? Very frustrating.

CPU Processing Distribution Question. Will 4 core VM use all physical cores on physical processor(s)?

Sorry if the title is vague, I am unsure how to properly word my question down to a single line. Anyways, on to my question, if I have two 16 core processors in a server, but I have 1 virtual machine that is setup with 4 cores, will the vmware only use 4 of the physical cores, or will the processing be distributed among all the cores? If searched the documentation but was unable to find much information about this specific situation. The reason I have it set to 4 cores instead of more is because the application I am trying to run only uses up to 4 core and if I can use vSphere to distribute out that processing it would greatly improve the performance. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the Community - a VCPU can only run on a single core at a time - so your 4 VCPU vm will run only 4 of the 32 cores that are available in you ESXi host but each - the ESXi host is also smart enough not let the any of the 4 VCPUs share core either. By default the VM's VCPUs can be scheduled on any of the 332 physical cores

Newbie with fill-able form distribution questions

Please can someone help me understand a few things about creating electronic forms in LiveCyle Designer ES so our HR department can:
Make the blank forms available on our Intranet
Make the forms fill-able by our own employees with Intranet access and Acrobat Reader 6 and above.
Allow the form and the form data to be emailed back to HR as an PDF attachment
Allow HR to send out the part filled form as an email attachment to Authorising managers (numerous people involved in the authorisation process)
Allow the authorising managers to submit their authorisations back to HR
Allow HR to store and print the completed forms with all the authorisations (not digital signatures, just email addresses I think)
Is the above possible just using LiveCycle Designer ES (stand-alone version) to create the forms, saving as 6.x, setting the compatibility tab settings correctly, sending to HR so they can do the distribution bit in Acrobat and then putting the form_distributed.pdf file on the Intranet? Or do we need other tools to accomplish the above?

I'm pretty sure this is possible with a standalone version of LiveCycle Designer. I don't believe any of the functionality you described requires a LiveCycle server. My only caution would be the use of Adobe Reader 6.0. At the very least, if you can push the use Reader 7.0 (or even better 8.0), your ideas will function better. There is a pretty big gap from 6.0-7.0. If you'd like to discuss this further, feel free to email me.

Document Distribution Question for Confirm Receipt Workflow

Hi all,
If I do a document distribution for recipient list (CVI7) with several users as recipients of the document, all of the workflows with links back to the dist log for confirming receipts go to the person who initiated the distributions. Is there any method of directing these workflows directly to the users specified in the recipient list?

In stndard sap it is not possible.It might be done by changing the recipient in the workflow. So consult a workflow person for this.

I tend to use the drop-in on another thread if the person has not reached Level 6 (As it is now).
Otherwise I would tend to use the the Level 6 + Lounge and a more formal "Bat Signal"
Someone dropping in to one of "my threads" is likely to be asking something about Messages or iChat and be "on Topic" in that sense.
(Of course there are days when I could argue that the drop in question does not match the specific on going question in hand . But I know I can be fickle).
I know I follow a fairly narrow band of topics, partly based on knowledge and partly on time restraints. I no longer have a job that gives me days off in the week which I used to use here in other communities.
I could understand someone of level 6 or higher who I consider to be more knowledgeable than myself having question that were "off topic" more often than I might and finding it a distraction.
However at the end of the day it is a matter of perception.

Manual distribution question

Hi,
We are building an Integrated Planning application which will be mainly used to split out (distribute) keyfigure values from one record (a characteristic Region not-assigned) to multiple other lines where this characteristic region has a value. Those other lines are already existing but I am wondering what the most efficient procedure is to make this application keeping in mind these requirements :
a) the users should manually re-distribute the values from the first (not-assigned) line to the others, so no automatic distribution is required
b) the value on the not-assigned line should decrease automatically when a value is distributed to one of the new lines. (the users must be able to see how much they still have to distribute)
c) The amount on the original not-assigned line should never be exceeded when distributing values to the new lines.

u can work in wad or anlyser by creating two analysis grids
and fox formula.
in the first analyser grid u need to display # value.
In the second analyser grid u create ready query input and give plan data manually and u need to have one planning function to be executed by pressing save button after entering plan data
In that planning function u need to write the logic for reducint the amount of input from # region so that in the first analysis grid it will display the difference.

Java3D + Newer Eclipse Version - Access Restriction (solution + question)

Current eclipse versions don't go well with java3d. Programs that worked fine before now produce 100s of strange errors, e.g.
<tt>"Access restriction: The type SimpleUniverse is not accessible due to restriction on required library C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\ext\j3dutils.jar"</tt>
Java3D is installed correctly and everything was (and is) working perfectly well with older eclipse versions. I googled for a solution and found out that changing
<i>Windows -> Preferences -> Java -> Compiler -> Errors/Warnings -> Deprecated and restricted API -> Forbidden reference (access rules)</i>
to <i>"warning / ignore"</i> eliminated the error(s).
Can anyone explain me what is going on here? Why is Java3D "Deprecated and restricted"? Is the default setting of eclipse correct or oversuspicious? Did I miss anything else? Will the next java3d / eclipse version be fix this? Do I have to fix this?

my Eclipse Helios SDK 3.6.1 installation also shows this behavior, even if all classes of all three Java 3D-jars are declared as accessible in their access rules! See:
Project -> Properties -> Java Build Path -> Libraries JRE System Library [JavaSE-1.6] -j3dcore.jar, -j3dutils.jar, -vecmath.jar
I have no idea what is going on here. Following work arounds do the job well without accepting 'forbidden references':
A. Per project add the three Java 3D-jars to the Libraries and place them on the top:
Project -> Properties -> Java Build Path -> Libraries AddExternal JARs.. ..\jre6\lib\ext\j3dcore.jar, j3dutils.jar, vecmath.jar
Project -> Properties -> Java Build Path -> Order and Export Top j3dcore.jar j3dutils.jar vecmath.jar
B. An alternative is to create and add a 'User Library' in this way:
Windows -> Preferences -> Java -> Build Path -> User Libraries 1. New: J3DAll, 2. Add JARs.. select all three at ..\jre6\lib\ext\j3dcore.jar, j3dutils.jar, vecmath.jar
Project -> Properties -> Java Build Path -> Libraries Add Library .. -> User Library -> Next select J3DAll Finish
Project -> Properties -> Java Build Path -> Order and Export Top J3DAll

General restrictions ON question

I noticed today that my restrictions are locked and have entered every password I think it could be. It will not unlock. I have researched and found that I will need to restore to get this to "reset". I have backed up to cloud and itunes. If I do the complete restore and then back up to the cloud to not lose my photos and contacts will this readd the "lock"? I have no problems doing the retosre, my concern is when I go to back up the lock will reinstll itself.

1. go on my Mac log into icloud and make sure all of my contacts are there. I checked my settings on my iphone and those are set to already push. My concern was does that include phone number as well? Cloud is my only email source so all of my email contacts do currently push anyway. My worries are that when I do the complete restore that I wont know how to get the contacts back to my phone, phone numbers etc. But if I am understadning correctly it is as simple as activating my current cloud back on to my newly restored phone and whala? They will all, emails and phone number that I have now will push back to my phone?
2. Allan and Lawenrce I know push is enabled on my phone for my photos, I just checked. However, I noticed last night that I have to automatically push them to my mac when the phone is hooked up just like a camera. Is there a setting on my mac I need to change before I do the restore? And how do I send them back to my phone from iphoto? I am alomost certain I have never saved my photos IN Itunes, but can if I need to.
3. When I restore is it going to also wipe all itunes stored on my mac for this phone? Currently my iphone is synced with 3 itunes accounts that they merged that are all mine over the years. But when one of us in the house uses itunes sometimes it pushes to my iphone from one email or another, but they are all linked now in one itunes account. So ex: I have 300 songs on one email account then another 3000 on another email. They merged both emails last Jan to one account but the pushes from itunes still come from both emails from itunes for my apps or music when things need to update.
I am not some kid trying to bypass moms restriction code. I am mom trying not to go have to spend an hour at the geniuss bar doing what I could have aready done to fix the issue and be done with it to carry on with my home business.

Iphone app distribution questions

My app is a very simple table drill down within a tab bar. From recommendations on this list I'd like to keep my data (the catalog - 250 items of 6 attributes) in a plist.
I can't give the user the ability to edit or add to the catalog/plist. But the catalog will get updated on the order of 3-4 times per year.
What's the simplest way to keep all the users' catalogs up-to-date? My first guess is just to reissue the app package with the updated plist built in. Thoughts or suggestions?
As for the initial distribution, I'm selling the app to a manufacturer that wants their 5000 dealers to have access at no charge. I'm guessing that means putting it on iTunes as a free app. And as above, resubmitting it to the iTunes store whenever I have an updated catalog. Thoughts or suggestions?
This is my first foray into actually finishing an app and trying to distribute it.

Oopss, sorry, yes. Server/remote versus local, on the device. It would be an elegant solution, with its own benefits, of course. I think you appreciate the extra effort tho.
If you need an example of how easy it can be to get into trouble depending on a simple upgrade solution...let me outline a true example.
I know of an outfit that paid handsomely/$$$$ to have a full page color ad appear in a major industry print magazine about an upgrade to an existing app that was in big demand, only to have the ad come out nearly three weeks before the app was approved. When the ad was placed, approvals were running between 7 & 10 days. By the time their print ad hit the streets, approvals had slowed to more than 3 weeks. Clearly they failed to count on a lengthy approval process.
They spent far too much time fending off rants on their forums, while also finding themselves defenseless against negative reviews in the app store. The magazine ad promised one thing, but what was being downloaded/purchased was another.
When the app was finally released, they didn't mess with the original app release date and choose instead to forego any visibility an updated release date would have bought them.
This happened to a competitor, and their timing loss was my coincidental gain. My app made it into the store right after their print ad surfaced and before their app was approved. Cha...ching for me.
So again, while pushing an upgraded app is a good plan if you pay attention, don't get too comfortable relying on a specific release date and don't let a client talk you into putting your neck into that particular noose.

Android IOS Rim Distribution Question

Is it possible to distribute builds to employees/clients of a company without a verisign certificate?
What is the best (and cheapest) way to do it?

For mobile apps you don't use a Verisign key - you use the one supplied to you by Google, Apple, and/or RIM.
For Android apps: just link to the .bar file on a protected part of your website.
For PlayBook apps: If your app is intended for a limited number of users, you can either side-load the app onto their tablet from a PC/Mac, use the sandbox option to to allow them access to unpublished apps in App World, or you can publish it in App World and control who can use it via a licensing server.
Also, RIM is working on a "corporate" App World, where an enterprise can simply add their own private apps for internal use and control it via BES policies. They talked about it at DevCon in november. Not sure about a release date.
For IOS: don't know, probably something to do with the entrerprise distribution options in App Store.

Final distribution questions

Hi Guys,
A few things that I fail to fully understand when building the final (well an AdHoc distribution version):
1) after building the adhoc distribution version, I drag the app to the itunes applications screen, it shows the nice + sign and adds the app to the applications (I can then sync) and everything works fine,
the only thing that bothers is that my app (on the itunes screen) has some icon I do not recognize (seems like a default Icon of some sort (its bw with a pencil and a ruler and a paintbrush), on the device my app shows with my icon (Icon.png listed in the plist.info file). Other apps I have installed from the itunes appstore have correct images (both on the itunes application and on the iphone) what am I doing wrong? or is this an effect of something that was not installed from the appStore?
2) What are guidelines and were do I update and display the version number in my app?
I see plist.info has a few entries that I'm not if I'm suppose to fill in or is it apple's private things.
any hint would help. How do I dynamically get this value to show in my About Screen?
the suspected entries are:
Bundle version
but the docs also mention another entry that is suppose to track the build number.
3) my plist.info has the following bundleIdentifier line:
com.yourcompany.${PRODUCT_NAME:identifier}
this does not seem right, an I suppose to change this? where does this reflect?
4) my plist has the following:
Bundle creator OS Type code with value ???? (4 qmarks)
what is that used for?
Any help on these would be greatly appreciated.

SSL/Certificate creation/distribution questions

I'm extremely new to SSL and using certificates and have been having some trouble figuring out exactly how to create and implement them.
Environment background:
Currently, my entire network is closed off from the outside world. It's a mac-only network, basically sandboxed from a PC-only network via a router (to provide access to the internet, that's provided from the PC network). No port forwarding is set up and I don't have any external IP addresses pointing to my router, so currently there's no way for an outside source to see my network. With not really any need for secure traffic, SSL and certificates aren't really needed (basically, it's a video dept at a university with ~150 users). However, once I get external access (the main IT dept's been "working" on this with our ISP for, um, about a year <coughcough>), I'm wanting to do some stuff with VPN as well as wikis and chat (chat could theoretically be useful internally now). Even though we don't really have much worth hacking, once I get a window to the outside world, I'd like to button up my server/network as much as possible.
Since all my services will be set up and provided by me, I'm comfortable using certificates I create instead of purchasing any--if I knew how to do this, which brings me to my questions. I've tried creating a certificate within Server Admin, but it says it's not trusted (and clients don't seem to see it, anyway). I've also tried the instructions here: www.eclectica.ca/howto/ssl-cert-howto.php, but got an error when actually running the openssl command (OpenSSL is installed and appears to be functional). How do I get a trusted certificate(s) and then, how do I distribute them to the clients so they see and use them? Exactly what path are these created to, or should be placed, etc?
I'd initially like to use SSL for increasing the security of my logins (all network users), but like mentioned, I'd also like to secure other services (is a cert needed/useable for VPN?). In that regard, do I only need one certificate, or would I need certificates for each separate service?

Hi There,
If you create a "self signed" certificate you will get warning messages in your browser but can configure your browser to accept these warnings. This is ok if it is just a local access machine and you are the only one accessing it.
If outside people are going to be accessing it, you will want to use a 3rd party SSL certificate from a trusted authority such as Verisign, GeoTrust etc.

ALE Distribution Question

We have a scenario triggering MATMAS Idocs to other systems.
Change pointers activated.
So Matmas Sent from system A to B and A to C.
in System B then can change some thing which comes back to A as Inbound Idoc and will be posted to System A.
this triggers MAtMAS again sending data from A to B.
Its like a Loop.. right ?
How can u avoid those situations?. I just want to add new field to BD64 model so that If a change made by particular User should not be triggered Change pointers.
Can someone explain me how that works. In BD 64 there are not many fields in MATMAS you can select to filter out.

1) Tcode BD61---> check the change pointers activated check box
save and goback.
2) Tcode BD50---> check the MATMAS check box save and comeback.
3) Tcode BD51---> goto IDOC_INPUT_MATMAS01 select the checkbox save and comeback.
4) Tcode BD52---> give message type : matmas press ok button.
select all what ever you want and delete remaining fields.
save & come back.
5) 5) go to Tcode MM02 select one material and try to change the description and save it
it will effects the target systems material desciption will also changes
6) goto Tcode SE38 give program Name is : RBDMIDOC and Execute
give Message type : MATMAS and Executte
