Restricting apps that aren't free

I know how to set a restriction on the app store (i.e. disabling the app store itself) but I don't want to do that, I only want to restrict purchasing apps that are not free. It's happened before that either myself or someone who's using my phone accidentally buys an app because we thought it was free. Is there a way to do this?

Just remove your credit card from the App store.
You can get free apps but if you try to get one that costs $$ you will first have to put in a credit card #

I want to restrict my children from installing any apps that are NOT free. How do i do this? Do i have to restrict their Apple Store use in whole or is there something that will just deny them when they try

Sorry, but there is no option to restrict downloading just to free apps. It would seem like a useful option, so you can suggest it to Apple via their feedback pages, if you wish:

And now because I want to communicate with apple support I have to go through the hectic website and community support, this is ridiculous.
I have 5 iPhones in my account and this makes me reconsider upgrading to iPhones again.
Why Apple put a phone number in the bank transaction, if there is nobody to talk to!!!!!!
I hope someone from Apple support can answer my question.

Go to getsupport.apple.com.  Or, call 1-800-MYAPPLE.
Just because an app is free to download doesn't mean that there aren't in-app purchases available.
Go to iTunes on your computer, log into the iTunes Store with your Apple ID & password, and check your purchase history.  Be advised that all iTunes & App Store purchases are final.

  • If you download an app that is not free is that charged monthly or is that a one time fee?

i have free apps, but i was wondering about the ones that are not free, are those a monthly charge or is it a one time charge?

An App purchase i.e. a not free one, should be a one time cost. However be aware that you can also purchase a subscription to for example magazines. Subscriptions would be recurring costs. These should clearly indicate this when you try to purchase them. The subscription is normally done within the App itself (the App is typically free).

  • HT5188 VPP and apps that are now free?

Configurator treats Keynotes, iMovie etc as paid apps and doesn’t allow to install them unless you buy the redemption codes in VPP. And obviously I don’t want to pay for apps that I could get free for the latest sets of iPads.

  • Syncing apps and deleting apps that aren't on home screen

My first question is about syncing apps. Should apps that I install directly on the iPhone from the App Store (not through iTunes) not show up in my synced apps list? At first syncing apps gave an error (I forget what it was) now the last time (or time before) that I synced it asked me to register the computer for syncing apps (or something like that) so I did. There are only a few apps showing in my apps section in iTunes (ones I tried downloading and syncing to my iPhone but unsuccessfully so I used the App Store on my iPhone to install them). At least I was smart enough to test it with free apps. So, I'm wondering if my apps don't show on the apps page (in iTunes) and I delete from my iPhone, that would mean that I wouldn't be able to reinstall without redownloading (and possibly paying again if it's a paid app), right? Is there a way to get my iTunes to sync my apps properly? Maybe its a Windows 7 problem?
    Next question ...
I've downloaded more apps than fit on my homescreen but now would like to delete at least one of those. Is there a way to do this? This may relate to my previous question in that it seems to not be working to sync my apps so I can't use iTunes to control them. I will need to do it from my iPhone.
Another quesion relating to my first ...
If my apps are not synced properly and my iPhone crashes will I lose all my apps or are they backed up when the iPhone is backed up and can be restored from the backup?

They should. You can use File menu > Transfer Purchased From to move them, if needed.
Extra 'screens' show up in iTunes, on the Applications tab, if your software is the latest version. You can manage the apps there.
App data is backed up and can be restored. The apps themselves are synced, but not backed up. However, you can redownload apps for free:

  • App Store prompts to update apps that aren't installed, with wrong AppleID

Alright folks,  I replaced a 3.5" HD in an iMac with a 2.5" SSD. To clone the data over to the new drive I used Carbon Copy Cloner.  A fine tool I must say.
They took the iMac back to the business and fired it up and have been using it except for a strange problem.
The App Store keeps prompting for updates to software that is not installed on their iMac, and it asks for my AppleID password.
Today it happened with Pixelmator.  I have Pixelmator on my MacBook Pro, I didn't install it on their iMac.  It is not present on their iMac. I did not sign in with my AppleID on their iMac either. There is no reason for my AppleID to show up on their iMac at all!!
    Steps we've taken.
Checked to see if the App Store is signed in under their AppleID.  It is signed in under their ID.
Signed out of the App Store and signed back in, same thing.
Restarted, redid steps 1 and 2.
Checked "Internet Accounts", "iCloud" and "App Store" in system preferences. My ID is not in any of these preference panes.
Please give me some advice!  Any idea where I should start?

Your Apple ID is encoded in OS X and any Mac App Store apps that you have bought. If you cloned your drive to the Mac, that is why your Apple ID is associated with that Mac. The Mac needs to be handled at this point as a 2nd hand Mac.
Preparing a 2nd Hand Mac for use -
You need to erase the HDD, reinstall the version of OS X that shipped from the factory on the Mac and then set it up as new with your own Apple ID.
User Linc Davis explains how a new owner can prepare a 2nd hand Mac for their own use.

  • "Free" apps that are not free - recourse?

Has anyone experienced any issues with downloading a "free" app and then receiving a text stating the app is 9.99/month?  What is the recourse?
Unfortunately, I don't recall the name of the app (game), but the text I received is a "mobile registration alert" with my phone# and the cost, with name Fonesocial (800-814-2129) in text.  On principle, I texted back complaining about the deceitfulness of the app and refuse to call the number.  I'm watching my bill to see if I get a charge from them.

How do I prevent phone numbers on my account from using Premium Messaging?
Account holders can disable Premium Messaging via My Verizon.
    To disable Premium Messaging:
Make sure you are signed in to My Verizon
Click on the Safe Guards icon.
Under Service Blocks, click on “Add/Remove Blocks”. A list of available service blocks will display.
Check the box next to “Block Premium SMS”.
Note: this needs to be done for each line on the account that you want to prevent from using Premium Messaging. This will prevent anyone from using those lines to subscribe to new Premium Messaging programs or from incurring premium charges from new programs.
Here is a link that should direct you where you need, I found this with a quidk search... http://support.vzw.com/faqs/Premium_TXT_and_MMS/faq_premium_txt_and_mms.html

like someone else suggested, block premium messaging on your account.
This is correct that this is a common way of authorizing a Premium messages but some programmers has figured out other ways to trick you into granting permission to allow them to charge your account. Basically you should be safe from the Market but when you buy from other sites outside the market network they can sometime work the premium message agreement into the agreement policy information to download app.
Best to read everything you are agreeing to these days, electronics agreement  can be just as dangerous even without credit card or account numbers, all they need is cell number.

  • Reinstall apps that were once free

Just want to check something out. If you purchase a free app then delete it and now want to reinstall it, am I correct in saying that the cost of the reinstalled app will be the price on the day of reinstallation ? For example downloaded a free app and deleted by mistake. Had a look at the Store and current price is £1.79. I am assuming that if I reinstalled it I would be charged £1.79.

No, you won't be charged anything. If you've bought an app, you can redownload it for free, even if you've deleted it.

  • Missing paid apps (that were previously free) after migrating to iPhone 5s

I just upgraded from iPhone 5 to iPhone 5s. I have a lot of music and pictures there, so to make it faster I first connected my iPhone 5 to my Mac and made a backup via iTunes. After that I plugged in my new iPhone 5s and restored it. Then when the phone restarted, it took about 2-3 hours to download all the apps onto the new 5s. So I thought everything was done, but I then discovered that some apps were still missing on the new iPhone 5s.
For instance, this is a screenshot from iPhone 5s:
And this is how it used to look on my iPhone 5:
As you see those 4 games are missing.
I thought about it and the only thing that comes to mind is that I got those games after one of the Apple's promotions. I believe for free. Does this mean that those previously promoted apps don't migrate to new devices?

Thanks. Logging out from Settings -> iTunes & App Store and then logging back in fixed the issue.
