Restricting bandwidth for video calls on 9971 devices

Hi,
I've got a 9971 hanging of a relatively poor ADSL line and I need to restrict the bandwidth it uses when making a video. It works when it's configured to be in a location with high BW, but when I created a new Location and restricted the video BW to 400Kbps, I can't make video calls anymore. I then tried increments of 100Kbps until it began to work at 1000Kbps.
Am I missing something here? Can I set the video resolution for sending on 9971 devices.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Cheers

Hi,
You should be setting the bandwidth parameter under REGION and not LOCATION. REGION will allow you to set the "Max Video Call Bit Rate" on a per call basis.
From the SRND document at https://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/srnd/7x/video.html#wp1046094, there is a very well written explanation on how the video bandwidth can be modified:
"The Video Bandwidth field accepts values in the range of 1 to 8128 kbps. However, to allow for compatibility with H.323 and H.320 videoconferencing devices, Cisco recommends that you always enter values for this field in increments of either 56 or 64 kbps. Therefore, valid values for this field include 112 kbps, 128 kbps, 224 kbps, 256 kbps, 336 kbps, 384 kbps, and so forth.
When the call speed requested by the endpoint exceeds the bandwidth value configured for the region, Unified CM automatically negotiates the call down to match the value allowed in the region setting. For instance, assume that an H.323 endpoint calls another H.323 endpoint at 768 kbps, but the region is set to allow a maximum of 384 kbps. The incoming H.225 setup request from the calling party would indicate that the call speed is 768 kbps, but Unified CM would change that value to 384 kbps in the outgoing H.225 setup message to the called party. Thus, the called endpoint would think that it was a 384-kbps call to begin with, and the call would be negotiated at that rate. The calling endpoint would show the requested bandwidth as 768 kbps, but the negotiated bandwidth would be 384 kbps.
However, if you set the Video Bandwidth to "None" in the region, Unified CM will either terminate the call (and send an H.225 Release Complete message back to the calling party) or will allow the call to pass as an audio-only call instead, depending on whether or not the called device has the Retry Video Call as Audio option enabled."
So to make a video call on a your poor ADSL line, you can update/create the Region to use a Video Bandwidth of 384kbps, the phone will be able to establish a Video call in VGA format at 15 fps, which is fairly good. At 625kbps, you are looking at 30fps. The change will affect any new calls and the configuration is not done on the handset and not just related to 9971 phones.
Please rate if you find this useful.

It is not clear what the specifications of your setup are supposed to look like . However could take a  look at "

I would recommend 3rd party apps such as Line or Skype for video calls ... As for future plans to implement video calls in the Lenovo dialer, I am not sure.

  • Bandwidth Requirement for Video Call

    Hi,
I am having Cisco 9951 phones in my all location now we want to configure Video call between two location (Head office to SRST locaiton). Please help me how much bandwidth is require to make video calls.
Also, what all configuration is require for the same.
    Regards,
    Shambhu

The default is inter-region max video call bit rate is 384K, close to one video call.
The default Interregion max video call bit rate is 384K.
The bandwidth would depend on the resolution being used. The recommended bandwidth for resolutions are as follow:
    VGA 360p@30fps: 768 - 2000kbps
    VGA 360p@15fps: 448 - 767kps
    CIF@30fps: 320 - 447kbps
    CIF@15fps: 256 - 319kbps
    QCIF@30fps: 128kbps – 255kbps
    QCIF@15fps: 64 - 127kbps
And 9971 IP Phone supports below formats:
    SQCIF (128 x 96 pixels)
    QCIF (176 x 144 pixels)
    QVGA (320 x 240 pixels)
    SIF (352 x 240 pixels)
    CIF (352 x 288 pixels)
    VGA (640 x 480 pixels)

  • Why do I have to use a 3rd party for video calling...

I have downloaded the newest version of skype, and it says I am using BtvStack.exe for Skype. It will not allow me to make video calls from my desktop. How can I change this!? Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you are not using any Bluetooth devices with Skype, then you don't need this BtvStack.exe application at all.
In Skype open Tools -> Options -> Advanced settings. At the bottom of this screen you should see a menu item saying “Manage other programs access to Skype”. Click on this menu. Do you see any applications listed there?
If you see BtvStack.exe in the list, then remove this application.

  • Dx650 - Just CUCM for video calling?

We have CUCM 10, running on a BE6K.  We just ordered some video endpoints (DX650).
Will person to person video calling work for users on our CUCM cluster?  I realize for external calling we need Cisco TelePresence Server/Cisco TelePresence Conductor/Expressway.  But I assume for internal phone to phone video we don't need anything?
And CUWL standard will be sufficient?
    Thanks, Bill

Point to point calling will work without any issues. You may need to have enhanced license as I believe it is seen as a telepresence device.

You aren't addressing Apple here. This is a user-to-user tech support site.  Apple doesn't participate here. We are all iPhone users like yourself
There is nothing whatsoever misleading about how FactTime is described by Apple.  It works EXACTY as stated. If you are mislead, it's due to your inadequate reading comprehension or lack of effort reading what Apple actually said.
There is no "international" standard for cell phone video calling.  Most other phones use proprietary systems or 3rd party apps such as Skype (which also works on iPhones).  FaceTime is on WiFi internet connections only because all carriers have refused to allow it on their cell networks due to the huge number of iPhones.  The FaceTime standard is open source and other manufacturers are free to implement it, but have refused so far.

  • Using Skype for video call on iPad2

I installed Skype for iPad and when I try to place a video call, the video button is present but not active.  I have gone through the audio test call several times and that works fine.  How do I activate the video function?

    Barry-
Looking at preferences and settings, I can not find any way to change access to the video button.  I see it is not active when you place a call to the audio test server, but that is to be expected.
I had a problem with the Macintosh iChat video program, where video was not available when my internet access was too slow to support video.  I do not know if that applies to Skype or not.  If you can have someone call you using their video button to make the call, your Skype video may activate and work correctly in the future.

  • Any Fix For Video Calling Since Releases of versio...

Still stuck on Verson 6.22.0.107 Due to a bug (downgrade) that was intruduced in Version 7.x
In Version 6.2  Im able to activaily join a 100+ chat group, type /golive, have people join the call and share my webcam (buttons avlilble)
In version 7.x.xxx Im able to activaily Join a 100+ chat Group, Type  /golive, have people join the call but  NOT share my webcam, (The buttons grayed out)
There is no reason for the latest version of skype to have webcam disabled in a large chat like this. Exspecially when the prevouse version CAN do it.
This makes my FaceRig, and ManyCam become super redundent when Im not able to use them during a large skype call.
I personally demand a fix for this or Ill be staying on version 6.22.0.107 for the rest of skype life.

Thank you for the comments so far.
The Audio MIDI Setup is (and has been) set for 44100, 2channel, 16 bit.
I've found that it apparently has to do with Quicktime 7 (I'm using 7.0.4, now) When I use QT 6 (which is what came with the install disk, and after an archive and install) The problem is not there--no stuttering of the video at all. Also, there seems to be no writing to the disk during playback in QT 6. When I upgraded to QT 7, because it's apparently needed for iLife, 06, the writing to the disk occurs during video playback. It stutters exactly when this occurs.
So, it seems to be a situation with not having enough cache to handle disk writes during playback. Does anyone know what is causing either the disk writes during playback, or, if there's a way to increase the player's cache for video playback from an internal drive?. Oh, and I am using QT Pro.
It seems I have a choice of going back to an earlier version of QT, and an earlier version of iTunes, or coming up with a way to stop the disk writing during playback. Could it be caused by the serial disk interface rather than the old standard ATA parallel interface that used to be used? Does anyone know a way to increase the QT cache (for video playback from internal drives)?
    So far, I've tried:
Archive and Install of Tiger, then update to 10.4.5,
Reinstall of QT 7.0.4 from 6
    Turned off Spotlight (using Terminal)
Set processor to not nap (which doesn't hold through a reboot)
    Set processor to Maximum processing
    Tried using only single processor
    No resolution yet.

  • Enabling 3G for video calling - N96

Upon trying to make a video call, I get a message saying it's not supported by the network, but I have this with T-Mobile for free as part of my package (they have confirmed).
However, as I disconnected from a 3G web session, I noticed the 3G icon in the top left was showing, so I tried the call again and it started dialling ok.
However, the 3G icon disappears, and I can no longer make video calls.
How can I enable the 3G or make video calls without this issue?

  • IChat and "Insufficient bandwidth" for video chats

I have spent hours and hours trying to solve this problem, after having spent a lot of money for an iSight specifically for use with iChat, which I now find don't work together. I just made the switch from PC to MAC and have been nothing but amazed until this... Here I have to give a huge "thumbs down", though. Apple has really screwed this one up.
The error when trying to connect video is "Insufficient bandwidth to maintain..." and sometimes "A communications error has occurred".
If anybody out there, especially APPLE can help me fix this, I'd be very appreciative. Note that I had GREAT success with aMSN, Yahoo Messenger, and Skype (for the mic).
Based on lots of reading, here are things I've done without success. Note that I have a very good ADSL-2 20MB connection! The machine is a new Mac mini Intel core duo.
    1. Set the QuickTime streaming bandwidth to below what I know the ADSL line can do.
    2. Set port forwarding for all the ports I found in all the FAQs, Apple technical documents, etc., etc.
    3. Tried turning the UPNP of the ADSL modem both ON and OFF.
    4. Made sure there is no firewall.
    5. Tried every setting for the video bandwidth setting in iChat.
    6. Tried both .mac and AIM accounts. (You never know...)
    7. Made sure I have none of the known conflicting software indicated by Apple.
    8. Made sure that Apple Remote connections are disabled.
    9. Upgraded to 10.4.7.
I have actually read that some people got around this problem by connecting their MAC directly to their ADSL modem and (presumably) turning off its routing functions. But what am supposed to do with my 4 other computers, then?
Apple, please FIX THIS! There are abosolutely tons of people with the same problem and no solution.
Mac mini intel duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Ok Ralph... Thanks again.
When you said "two lots", I thought you may have meant that the DHCP server might be giving out IP addresses on two sub-nets (192.168.0.xxx, 192.168.1.xxx, etc.).
Since all of my machines have a static IP (except my business laptop, which I have to drag around to customer sites), I actually tried turning off the DHCP server to see if it helped. It didn't.
Also, I don't quite follow what you're saying about the NIC actually having two addresses (masquerading)... one from the modem and one from the DHCP. This should not be true, as it is the specific purpose of NAT to avoid this. Only the modem/router should really know "who is who" and relay packets appropriately.
The only pseudo-exception I can see for this is if the iChat software on the client and/or the AIM server is passing through the external/internal IP addresses as part of its data packets... ie., not in the IP headers to be handled normally by the NAT layer. If so, then this is just quite simply a design flaw in iChat... and a really stupid one.
One other point... Should I understand from your reply that if I set the modem up for "single user" mode (ie., turn off NAT and DHCP), then I would need to manually forward the right ports?
