Restrictions Passcode never set

I never set a restrictions passcode on my iPad.  After most recent upgrade, restrictions is turned on.  In trying to turn restrictions off I am asked for a passcode.  General passcode will not work.  Every time I try to turn it off it shows a failed attempt.  I am afraid I am going to be locked out.  How can I turn restrictions off when I never set up a passcode?  No one else has access to my iPad so there is no one else who could have inserted a passcode.  Is this a default with the new upgrade?

It's a computer.  Computers are not perfect, and never will be.  Neither are the humans who built and designed them.
If you backed up the device before this started, the backup may not have the restrictions.  Therefore, you can restore the device and install this backup.

  • Can't get onto iPad asking for passcode never set one up

I download ISO 7 yesterday and now can't get onto my iPad as it's asking for a passcode ...I haven't ever had a pass code or been asked.. Help?

Does your screen look like this (below?).  My sister called me with the exact same problem after updating to iOS7 on her iPad Mini.  She was convinced she didn't have a passcode!  She hadn't realised that she'd set one up as part of the iOS7 upgrade, which you will have done by default unless you hit the 'skip' button on that stage of the setup.  Are you sure you didn't type something in whilst upgrading to iOS7 without realising this was going to be a passcode?  When I asked my sister to think back to what she'd done she remembered what she typing and unlocked the iPad using the same word!  I hope this helps

  • Restriction passcode that was never set, IOS 7.0.6 Latest update

Well this is certainly frustrating.  I recently updated IOS to 7.0.6 on my iphone 4g.  First I noticed my screen was locked to vertical.
When I went to change this I came along my restrictions, and noticed a restriction passcode was set.  I never had this locked, I have tried every set of  numbers I usually set to ...sadly with no results and longer wait time.
I searched the forums and got discouraged.  Reset to factory settings or to latest back-up.  Latest back-up would be great, if you didn't back it up when passcode restriction was on, which then means you have to do a factory reset.
From now on I am going to configure my new iphone device with calendars, contacts, & notes with a more reliable source, like my laptop or computer.  Completely tired of these issues of having my information for ransom, with the possibility of it being lost for good.
To solve my problem, my idea is to look around the forums on how to transer all my contacts, notes, and calendars to a different platform other than iphone.
Any help on this would be great.
I  have a MacBook Pro, ipad air, and the last MacPro tower.  I thought I was ingenious when I set all my contacts, notes, and calendars across all devices under same Apple ID.  (mail, account, and other stuff was under device apple id, I just kept the same ID as phone for 3 mentioned above).
It was a good idea in theory, but there is something buggy with the contacts, and now this restrictions passcodes.  I will remember in the future for any ipad, or iphone to have it synched with an account that is reliable, especially for these apps.
I'm due for a new iphone, wondering if that will quick fix the first problem, not sure if my solution above is even a reasonable solution.  So any help would be great.

  • HT1212 i never set up a passcode but now it ask for one and then disabled my phone

How can I regain the use of my iphone after being shut out because i do not have a passcode- never set one up but hit wrong thing.

Connect to the computer that you last backed up the phone to and click the Restore iPhone button in iTunes. This will wipe the phone, restore the backup, and remove the passcode.

  • How many times can you attempt the restrictions passcode?

I've forgotten the restrictions passcode I set on my iPod. Since I don't want to perform a complete systems reset just yet, I want to try to attempt remembering my passcode... how many times can I try the restrictions passcode without permanently locking it?

This is for the restrictions passcode correct? Not the regular passcode....
And I heard somewhere that if you guess too many times, you will be permanently locked out of your device...

  • How to recover restriction passcode that i forgot?

attempted 22 tries to turn off my restriction passcode, never succeed.

The recommended solution is that you have to reset the device as new because if you restore from a backup, the backup will also have the forgotten Passcode in it and yo will just be restoring that Passcode to the iPad. However, if you have a backup that does not contain the Passcode, you can restore from that backup and that should solve the problem.
If you are a little more daring, I found this in my Pages app. I copied this months ago and forgot all about it. You can read it and see if you want to give it a try. Everything inside of the + signs is what I copied from another discussion and they are not my instructions.
+1. Download iPhone Backup Extractor http://supercrazyawesome.com/ (This is for OSX, if you are using Windows there are other Backup Extractor programs although my iPhone syncs with a Mac so you will have to tweak these directions to work with the Windows program, here is one of the Windows programs I found: http://www.iphonebackupextractor.com/)
    2. Extract the Zip file you downloaded, move the App to your Applications folder, then run the App
    3. Click on Read Backups, in the window that pops up click on the backup file of the device you need the lost pin for, then click Choose
    4. You will have a list of all the Apps on the phone. Scroll to the bottom of the list and click on iOS Files, then click on Extract. Choose a folder where you want the files to be extracted to.
    5. After it finishes extracting go to the folder where you extracted the files and follow this directory path: iOS Files --> Library --> Preferences
    6. In that folder find the file "com.apple.springboard.plist" and open it. (Read note below if on Windows)
    7. In Property List Editor look for the key titled "SBParentalControlsPin"
    8. Look to the right of that entry and you will see the 4 digit PIN. You can now remove/modify parental controls
(NOTE: If you are on Windows and do not have a program that will read PLIST files then open the file with Notepad instead. It will mostly look like garbled junk and words running together but towards the end of the file look for 4 successive digits, if there is more than one place with 4 successive digits then try them all, one of them will be your pin).+

  • I wish to reset my ipad.  However, when I selectGeneral Reset Erase all content and Settings, I am prompted for a a Restrictions Passcode (which I have never set).  I have now entered random codes 11 times and the ipad not reset. How do I get past this?

I wish to reset my ipad (as advised by the Apple Store) to attempt to resolve an issue with a non-responsive part of the screen..  However, when I select General>Reset>Erase all content and Settings, I am prompted for a a Restrictions Passcode (which I have never set).  I have now entered random codes 11 times and the ipad has not reset. How do I get past this?  I am now at the point where I have to wait 60 mins before I can enter another random passcode.  I just want the ipad to clear down, erase everything so I can start again.

The other option is to force iPad into Recovery Mode.

  • I never set a restrictions passcode but my ipod is asking for one help?

Can anyone help me? I'm trying to do a reset of all settings but it asks for two passcodes, my normal one to unlock my ipod but then it asks for a second passcode called a restrictions passcode but I never set one.

What do mean by full setting reset?
A few other users has said that they had a Restrictions passcode but they said then never set one. Two possibilites.
    - A glitch set one
    - Someone got hold of yur iPod when the screen lock was off and added one.

    Forgotten RESTRICTIONS Passcode
    - Restore from a backup that was make before you added the Restrictions passcode. If you restore from a backup made with the Restrictions passcode the Restrictions passcode is also restored. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod. . Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
    - If you are up to file manipulation see the following but it may not work for iOS 6.1.3 or iOS 7

  • HT201304 I never set a restrictions passcode, but somehow there is one set. I don't understand Apple sometimes. I think its time to make the switch.

I never set a restrictions passcode on my iPhone. I recently tried to make an in-app purchase, and I was directed to this passcode for the first time. There is not any support for Apple on this issue. If I cannot use Apps, what is the point of having smartphone? This coupled with Apple/Yelp maps is going to force me to switch.

So if I understand you correctly, you are saying someone from Apple had access to your phone and without your knowledge set a passcode restriction on your phone.  Is that right?  I do not think so!  Apple is not responsible for the passcode that is set on your phone. Restriction Passcodes do not appear by themselves and cannot be set remotely and can only be set by someone who has access to the phone itself

  • I never set up a restrictions passcode.  How do I reset?

After the last upgrade I added a passcode as requested.  I never set up a restrictions passcode.  How do I reset the restriction passcode?

Note: If you lose or forget a restriction passcode, you will need to perform a factory restore to remove it.

  • Restrictions passcode I never set.

About a week ago I discovered I was having problems watching videos online.  I got a message saying "This video is currently unavailable Learn more". I clicked on learn more and one of the suggestions was to turn my restrictions off. I know I never set the restrictions on but I checked anyways. Low and behold the restrictions were on. I am the only person he uses my iPad and I definitely did not set a restrictions code. Plus this problem only started a week ago. My iPad was updated to iOS 7 when it first came out.  So now it is asking for a passcode that I know I never set and I am up to three failed attempts.  As far as I'm concerned this is absolutely unacceptable considering the only fix I have found is to completely wipe my iPad.  I refuse to wipe it,  I will live with not being able to watch certain videos, however I'm deeply disappointed with Apple on this issue.

My 6+ iphone is not allowing me to access icloud nor any of my email accounts.  I've tried to reset it but it asks for my 'restrictions' passcode which I

    Hi nadzpad,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your iPhone 6 Plus. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly what you are seeing or describing. If you are being asked for a Restrictions password, you may find the following article helpful:
