Restructuring Forest-Domain - Best Migration Tool

Hello,
My Client is about proceed towards a multiple Forest-Domain strategy,
We have studies some of the product available for the migration of the object to new domains,
Quest Migration Manager (now dell), Smart AD Migrator (BinaryTree), ADMT (Microsoft)
However apart from these tools which are capable of migrating standard objects types from directory to other..
for e.g.: users, computers, groups, My client has Embbeded PCs, Micro-Terminals etc..
I need to know what all Tool->Vendor are capable of migrating unknown, rarely used, custom made objects.
An Extremist

ADMT is a good migration tool. I already used it to migrate 60k + AD objects.
I am not sure about support of PCs running Windows Embedded but you can give a try. If it does not work then I am not aware about a Microsoft tool to manage that.

What's the best migration tool to be used from sybase 12.5.3 to Oracle12c? Thanks!

    Hi,
If you have access to My Oracle Support then review this note for alternatives -
How To Migrate Non-Oracle Databases For Which a SQL*Developer or Migration Workbench Option Is Not Available (Doc ID 393760.1)
For example, you could use a gateway and connect to Sybase then copy table to Oracle, but this won't do things like move stored procedures etc and you would have to move these manually.
Load the non-Oracle data into flat files and use SQL*Loader to put the data into Oracle tables. Again manual  work is required for the other objects.
In Oracle 12c there will be additional features to help migrate from non-Oracle databases.
In the 12c documentation there is a migration guide:
    Oracle® Database Migration Guide 12c Release 1 (12.1)
    http://st-doc.us.oracle.com/12/121/gateways.121/e22508/migr_tools_feat.htm#sthref8
It lists steps as possible solutions how to migrate from a foreign database to Oracle in the section:
Other Oracle Products that Enable Migration
There may also be third party tools but Oracle only provide SQL*Developer.
Is there any particular reason why you don't want to use SQL*Developer ?

    Mike

  • Active Directory Cross Forest Domain Migration

    Dear All,
We are in the process to rebuild new Active Directory infrastructure. Multiple single forest domains in organization which needs to be consolidated/migrated on single Active Directory Domain. For this consolidation, have some queries to be addressed before
    going to start consolidation.
What is the best practices and what tool should we use for domain migration/consolidation
Active directory is on Windows 2003, forest and domain level is on Windows 2003, this will support to Windows 2012 R2 forest and domain functional level, will be migrated
directly from windows 2003 to windows 2012?
When move users to new domain, how will they access the other resources on the network. For e.g. Printer, File server, local web base application
After moving some computers to new domain would be possible to access remaining computers on old domain?
How the file server data will be moved? Best practices with NTFS folder permissions and users rights?
Is there any policy to register network printers on new Active Directory domain?
How users would be access web base application on new domain as their FQDN would be define with old domain name? Any option to change old domain FQDN with new domain that would be describe with any URL link?
Kindly give your valuable input to meet the desire result.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Dear Lucky,
Ya you can Migrate contents from multiple forest domain. Using ADMT (Active Directory Migration Tool)is the best way to migrate AD content. But you can't migrate from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012 R2, cause in Windwos Server 2012 R2 don't
have the supportebility of Windows Sever 2003.And not only users you can also migrate all others info (i.e. Computer object info, groups info, Exchange mailbox info, security info). You can migrate users face by face, means which peoples are in old domain they
can access old domain and new users are in new domain. For more info please follow the given link:

    Hi,
We have a parent-child multi domain AD environment . The root CA is placed in parent domain (Domain-A) and one enterprise sub-CA & one enterprise NDES CA in child domain (Domain-B). We have other child domains as well ( Domain-C,D,E). Now we are consolidating
all child domains and migrating all resources to root domain-A. We already have finished all users/computers/servers migration. now need to migrate the CAs from child domain-B to parent domain-A. Can anyone help me with the migration process and what all checklist
I have to follow ? Also, is there any impact to the CA certificate and other the enrolled certificates, because the domain name of the CA will change.
AD is on windows 2008 R2 STD & CAs are on Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise OS.
    Thank you in advance.

    1.  First of all it is possible.
    2. Migrate the CA server during off-business Hrs.
    3. CA server name can be change but not the CA name itself.
    4. You need enterprise admin for that.
    5. Join your new CA server into the Root domain & follow the steps.

    Steps
     1
Back up the CA templates list (required only for enterprise CAs).

  • Server migration tool problem

I'm trying to migrate a Windows 2003 SP2 (R1) to Server 2012 Essentials.  It won't allow migration until the Server Migration Tool is run on the old server.  However, it stops at the beginning of the process with an error that the DFS Replication
service is not running.  But as far as I know, the DFS Replication service did not exist until Server 2003 R2.  How can I get around this?

  • Issue with migrating 'WI' using 'TFS migration tool' when trying migrate from '2013 to 2013'

    Hi ,
Our final destination is to migrate projects from TFS-2010 to TFS-2013, for testing and familiarizing with the
migration tool we trying to migrate project within the 2013 server and between two servers of 2013,
we don't have any issues with migrating source code, we done it successfully,
but when we try to migrate 'WI' within same server and also tried to between two server we are getting two
different errors respectively when tried within server and between server, unable to migrate 'WI' in any scenario, log files attached for the same. Log file 'error-1' is the errors generated while trying migrate 'wI' within the same server and 'error-2' is
the errors generated while trying migrate 'wI' between two server, Need ur guidelines to over come these issues.

    Hi Sham,
Based on your description, I'd like to know the version of TFS integration tools you're using and the error details when migrate work items. If you use TFS integration tools 2012, please make sure you have Team Explorer 2012 installed on your server machine.
Please also let us know the configuration you used for the migartion. If you migrate between different domains, make sure the domains have two-way trust relationship. If the issue persists, check the event logs to see if there any useful information and
elaborate more details about your scenario with screenshots.

  • AD DS New Forest Domain Naming Problem

    Hey everyone,
I'm having a bit of a conundrum about the new forest domain name and what possible implications it can have if I chose the wrong name convention...
    Current Setup
The current issue is that the company I work for was bought out by another company and atm, where using a 2-way forest trust.
The company also has another site in Africa which is using a different forest domain but doesn't have any forest trust to either of the other 2 domains.
    The current forest domains are:-
    1. Company1.local (my old company)
    2. Company2.com.au (main company)
    3. internal.company2direct.com.ke (Africa site)
To make it worse, all three sites have their own Exchange environment and there's all types of file share/application authentication issues between sites.
Therefore, the company has decided that they want to get rid of all the exchange environments/file shares and so forth and move everything to
    Office365, including SharePoint and Lync
    New Solution
They have also decided that they want a new forest with a single domain and that the locations and security will be delegated by using different OU structures/GPO's as it's all going to administered by 2 people at the main company site. This is non-negotiable
as they don't want sub/child domains or different forests, just a single entity.
They're using a third party to do the Office365 design and implementation. However I have been assigned to setup the new initial ADDS server for the new forest.
After some reading I've found that we really shouldn't be using '.local' or '.internal' for the forest root domain. I suggested that we use 'internal.thecompanynamethatisreallylong.com.au' and a NetBIOS of 'CNF' (which is actually that long,
and I feel that if we have to use a FQDN for anything then it will cause an issue)
They want me use the following for the forest root domain ' au.cnf' with a NetBIOS of 'CNF'
Is that really such a good idea or is there any situation whereby using 'au.cnf' as the
    prefix.suffix could cause any issues?
I would of like to use 'internal.cnf.com.au' however the domain name 'cnf.com.au' is already registered by another company..
Once the new forest is created, I'll create a 2way trust between the companies and start using ADMT to migrate accounts across
Thanks in advance for you help

    Hello,
for AD limits, especially amount of usable characters, please see
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc756101.aspx
Personally I would NOT use the "CNF" as NetBIOS domain name. "CNF" in AD stands for "Conflicting object" and this will be shown in dcdiag or repadmin outputs when conflicts are listed as doubled names for example.
For the internal naming I would always use short domain names. Top level domain names to avoid for WAAD and Office365 I would also check with the experts in http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/azure/en-US/home?forum=WindowsAzureAD
    and http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/default.aspx
You could use public TLDs but keep in mind that you have to configure split DNS that way.

  • Party migration tool

We are trying party migration tool for first time.
Am facing many issues regarding these tool. I have few issues
1.Is it mandatory to run these tool from cd?
2.In the document it was there to create a temp db or migration db do we just need to create a empty temp data base or do we need to have anything?
3.where should i run these tool in source machine or in target machine?
4.Do we need to have same domains on both machines?
I need help in making these tool work me.

    Hi,
You must run the Party Migration Tool from the CD. You should not copy the tool executable to a separate location and then run.
You must run the Party Migration Tool from the same computer where you inserted the CD or copied the CD locally. You should not run the tool over the network share of the CD drive.
You must run the Party Migration Tool on a computer that has BizTalk Server Administration console installed.
As a best practice approach, Microsoft recommends that you create a temporary database and not use an existing database to which the Party Migration Tool will copy the migrated EDI application settings. You need to
    create a new database.
    For all other consideration. Refer:

  • Can you merge two user accounts on macbook? my wife has created a user on her new macbook , then inadvertently created a second one when using the migration tool. 1st ac has her office 365 install, yet 2nd has her itunes database, docs and contacts.

Can you merge two user accounts on a macbook? my wife has created a new user on her new macbook air then, inadvertently, created a second one when using the migration tool. 1st a/c has her office 365 install, while 2nd has her itunes database, docs and contacts. What is the best way forward to get everything into the one account? Not sure if the office 365 will allow another installation into the second account, otherwise would just do that and delete the first, if that is possible?

There is no merge but you can move data from one account to another via the Shared folder. Data is copied from Shared. Watch your free space when copying. These are large files.  Do one at a time if you are on a small drive. After making copy, delete from other users before you start next copy.
Office365 installs in the main Applications folder and is available for all users on the computer. Activation is tied to the drive not the User.

Can the SidHistory attribute be moved from one User account to a different User account in the same Forest/Domain manually with  Active Directory Users and Computers or with something like Powershell?  it would seem to me this is a safe operation.

  • Active Directory Migration Tool Moving Users before groups?

How are permissions to resources granted? By user or by group?
It's been so long I can't actually remember, but I think we moved users and groups together.
The SIDs will change if things are moving to a new domain.  But the migration tool handles that for you.

What are the draw backs of migration users before groups in a interdomain migration? if any

  • Pixmantec Migration Tool is unusable

First of all, I am very happy with the LR. In comparison to the RSP, the slow performance is compensated with a much better control of colors. (even if all cameras need to be calibrated for correct (red) colors?!?)
Because I really archive all my pictures as raw data with the appropriate develop settings, it is very important for me to take over the RSP settings. Maybe latest with a next PC-generation, RSP will not run any longer. Therefore, I would like to migrate them into LR. So I appreciated the migration tool. It is clear, that the tool cannot migrate all settings of RSP, but it is still far away from similar settings planned. Probably, Michael Johnson was not involved in development, because the actual tool cannot be used in the expected way.
    Some examples:
    Cropping:
    * correct conversion in some pictures
    * in many pictures no conversion
    * in some pictures wrong conversion (too low, in the middle of the face instead above).
For the not converted pictures, the problem is probably lying in the LR. I assume, it happens in pictures, where the right cropping rectangle (correct RSP) is outside of the picture rectangle.(RSP brings some more pixel.) This should be tested and corrected. (reduction of the cropping rectangle about the necessary pixel).
The white balance is not converted satisfactorily. For example, a manual white balance of the WhiBal card is converted from RSP 5000/-2 into LR as 4500/-2. The correct and therefore visually corresponding manual white balance in LR would be 5200/+4! It seems that the tint setting is just been taken over, which results in a greenish tint. In all my pictures (Canon 20D) the correct tint value (manual setting with a WhiBal card) of LR is always about 4 to 6 values higher than in the RSP.
The RSP vibrance setting should be multiplied by factor 3 to 5 for a visually equivalent LR setting.
There should be a flag for the Color Engine. Because the Color Engine, that is used by most of the people, delivers more saturated colors, the saturation (and vibrance) settings should be converted with a higher factor.
A negative value for RSP "Highlight contrast" should be migrated as LR Recovery setting.
The LR contrast remains wheter on the default setting or is set to 0. I really cannot understand why the contrast has to be set to 0 (very strange).
The very important RSP setting "Shadow contrast" is not taken into account at all! Consequently, there are many pictures in RSP with a high contrast, which after migration into LR have a lower or no contrast. They look totally different (dull)! It should be possible to map the RSP shadow contrast to the LR settings Darks and Shadows of the tone curve to get similar pictures.
The RSP tone curve and the level settings remains unrecognized.
In my opinion, it should be no problem to migrate a typical tone curve nearest:
The maximum and minimum values of the zones (highlights, lights, dark and shadows) could be analyzed and migrated into the appropriate LR parameter values. With that satisfactorily results could be reached for typical (positive and negative) s-curves.
RSP level settings could be converted as additional exposure and blacks corrections in order to produce similar pictures.
Overall, the migration tool is insufficient and unprofessional. It provides the impression, that it was developed facile only to deliver something as promised.
Finally, I would like to point out that it was not in my mind to only criticize your work. I really hope you can use my ideas to improve the tool.

I think this issue is a dead horse. A promise provided to late to be of any useful help.
I am a RSP user and while I am not a pro and do not have tens of thousands of pics, I do not think this would be of any use to me.
I believe it was a nice offer from Adobe to have this done but this offer was made about one year ago. Surely if one were using LR since then other alternatives would have been used to reprocess files if required. LR has advanced with at least one upgrade and surely another in the making very shortly.
If RSP supports your camera and works for you, continue to enjoy, if you wish to to use LR "smell the new brew of coffee" and move on.
Two years ago ACR imo was no match for RSE/RSP or other raw conversion software for that matter. Since then ACR v 4.1 and LR is a substantial improvement and can now hold their own against other third party raw converters.
Raw conversion software is advancing rapidly and RSP should be left to r.i.p, since there will be no future upgrades/camera support/enhancements and ones efforts would be best used elsewhere.
The LR team would be better employed in resolving the existing bugs and providing support for new camera models. jmho.

  • Oracle Migration Tool giving Access denied error for Read operation

    Hi;
Oracle Migration tool is giving access denied error when we are trying to Read a record for Access Profiles.
We are getting (SBL-ODS-50085) error. This is happening only for few records(Access Profiles).
Although the user role is administrator having full access and privilege (Manage User and Access checked).
Pl. help me resolve the issue.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Does it happen when you try to read "any" Access Profile?
If yes, please have a look at the
"Admin: Users and Access Controls - Manage Users and Access - Manage Users and establish User Quotas. Define Access Profiles, Roles and Groups to manage data access controls." privilege in the role of the user you use for migration.
In order to avoid any problem, I usually create a "Migration" role temporarily and assign this role ALL the privileges to avoid such failures at the time of export.
    Hope this helps,

  • SQL Developer migration tool

Does anyone have any experience migrating just one schema from MySQL to Oracle?
I've specified my database that I want the migration tool to use when I do the migration, but it goes ahead and tries to grab every single function, procedure, table for every single user in the database.
I'm basically trying to migrate a customers' mysql dataset to our oracle db.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance all!

    Patrick,
did you already read the Oracle® Database SQL Developer Supplementary Information for MySQL Migrations manual, available at:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12151_01/doc.150/e12155/toc.htm
The chapter 2.2 is dealing with schema migrations. Perhaps that is useful for you. If there is going something wrong for you and different as described in that manual then please let me know more details.
    Best regards
    Wolfgang
