Resubmitting a Podcast

What happens, when you want to change the feed locale, but can't edit the XML feed?
What happened to me, was the server I had my old XML feed on, died - disappeared - poof!
I can no longer update that XML feed, to add the <new url> tag so it will redirect.
I switched to a new hosting website, and tried to submit the podcast there. Since they hadn't removed the old feed yet, I got a "Podcast Rejected" email, probably because the new XML feed, had the same podcast title as the old one. (Duplication error I presume.)
So now, I can't submit the new feed, and the podcast has been removed from the iTunes Music Store. Since the XML feed I am trying to submit, was rejected - it wont let me submit it again. Just as long as its off of the same website URL (I changed the XML file name, but it said "already submitted").
Am I screwed or what?

You would probably need to change the title of the Podcast as well as the feed URL. If this doesn't work the only thing you can do is to contact Support and explain the situation: they may be to change the feed URL manually.

  • Resubmitting a podcast feed using Feedburner

I submitted my podcast feed through the iTunes store, and I received an email saying it was rejected. I used Feedburner to submit my feed, and I think it was rejected because I had the "Smartcast" setting activated, but completely blank.
I deactivated the setting on Feedburner, and then resubmitted through the iTunes store, but a message comes up saying "The feed has already been submitted." I know the feed was already submitted, but it was rejected, and now I am trying to submit the feed again with (hopefully) the problem fixed.
I don't think there is a problem with the feed since I can subscribe to it through iTunes, and it works fine.

    Any advice?

Make a small change to the title (you can always change it back later) and resubmit.

  • Resubmitting fixed Podcasts, has this problem ever been addressed?

Last week I got the standard email from [email protected] informing me that my Podcast Erotic Hypnosis: Tales of Evilena had been removed from the directory. I quickly found the error and fixed it. Now feedvalidator.org lists http://www.hypnosis.st/podcasts/storycast.xml as being valid. When I tried to resubmit my Podcast I got the error message that the Podcast was already in the directory.
After reading through this forum and spending a long time searching for the answer with Google, it seems that this is a common problem that Apple has not yet addressed. Am I correct in this assumption or have any of you found a way to fix this?
I read that the official fix for this is to fill out Apple's help form and wait a month or more for them to fix it. This turnaround time is too long to be acceptable in a fast paced medium like Podcasting. I received an incredible response from my Podcast in only three weeks. If I have to wait longer than that to fix the problem, I believe I would be better off starting from scratch. In fact, one website suggests that the best way to quickly fix this error is to add an extra character to the Podcast's title. I really don't want to have to do this because I don't want to lose all the momentum from my first three weeks. Last week I was listed in "New and Notable" which I consider a great honor because it means that someone at Apple likes what I am doing. I was also listed in the top 20 in Arts>Literature and #53 overall in Arts. I would greatly appreciate a solution to this problem that will allow me to continue from where I left off.
Lastly, I want to personally thank everyone in Podcast producing communit for creating quality content and contributing to the exponential growth of the medium.

Well, rather than losing time waiting for us or Apple to suggest something that Apple can fix on their end, I'd bite the bullet and start your podcast as a new title, or a new URL. You've already lost over a week waiting for an answer here. Make sure you always validate your feed before pinging the iTunes server, since you don't want them to drop you again.
Ask your web host if you can set up an alias from your new feed to your old feed. Then anyone that subscribed to your feed at the old URL will still get the updated content. Good luck, Mike

  • Problems resubmitting podcast

I am having problems with resubmitting a podcast. I submitted it 4 days ago and still don't see it in iTunes. It's been a podcast for 5 years, but was down since July because it was on the .mac server, so I had to switch to another host. (The old title was Evolutions of Astrology). I use Podcast Maker to publish each episode, and have had no problems before. The feed is http://www.denadecastro.com/podcast/podcast.xml
    Thank you,
    Dena

'Publishing' and 'Submitting' are two different things. As long as your podcast was running you could simply add episodes to the feed and the Store would pick them up.
As your feed was evidently offline for a period it would seem the podcast has been removed from the Store - this is normal enough. Now you have to re-submit it at
    https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/publishPodcast
Is this what you are doing? If the title is the same as before you may get an error message saying it's already been submitted and you will need to change the title slightly. You should gete an acknowledgement email on submitting, but it can take several weeks for it to be accepted.

  • Podcast was accepted, then rejected 9 weeks later. Why?

About nine weeks ago, I submitted my podcast to iTunes. It quickly was accepted, and it was even featured in the New & Noteworthy section of the Tech category all along.
    Podcast Name: Let's Talk Jailbreak
    Feed URL: http://idownloadblog.libsyn.com/rss
Then on Tuesday, out of the blue, I received an email from Apple saying my podcast hasn't been included in the podcast directory. After doing a quick troubleshooting, it appeared the feed had a very small problem, which apparently wouldn't even be a problem for iTunes. We fixed the small error anyway.
Since the rejection had started after Episode #9, which was titled "Like Justin Bieber says...", we thought that having "Justin Bieber" in the title could be a problem too so we changed the title to something different, and resubmitted the podcast.
I also replied to the email I received from Apple saying the podcast was rejected, telling them we had made some changes to fix the feed and changed the title.
I haven't heard back from them and I am wondering if the whole topic of our podcast could be the problem.
Our podcast is called "Let's Talk Jailbreak" and focuses on everything jailbreak. We do not endorse or even talk about app piracy. We just talk about jailbreak applications released for iOS devices. My blog, iDownloadBlog.com, is undeniably the best blog on this topic, and our podcast was just an extension of the blog. The podcast was downloaded over 30,000 times per episode, and was professionally produced. It also had 85 ratings in iTunes, most of them 5 stars.
From your experience, do you think Apple could have removed our podcast because we talk about jailbreaking?
I look forward to hearing your thoughts. We were having so much fun doing this podcast. Apple's unexplained decision really is a downer, especially because they don't give us any hint as to why the podcast was rejected all the sudden.

Having the name "Jailbreak" in your podcast is what got it removed.
Change the title / description / tags to remove any mention of the word "Jailbreak" and then you should be able to get it back in.
email me rob (at) libsyn (dot) com for more info.

  • How do I fix error 11111 when submitting my podcast?

I keep trying to submit my podcast to itunes from my site and it keeps denying me. how do i get past error 11111 and get my podcast up. BTW my feed is tdcampradio.com/shows

    iwilldieforhim wrote:
does this hangup have to do with resubmitting a podcast that used to be in service but was cancelled?
I don't think the 11111 error is anything to do with that, it's just a server glitch. There is a bug in the system where you're told a feed you're trying to resubmit has been submitted before even though it's been rejected or removed. I do wish they'd fix it, it causes a lot of problems. The workaround is to change the title slightly, and if you can rename the feed file as well that helps. You could also change the 'link' tag to your website - you can change it back after the feed's been accepted, as you can with the title provided doing so doesn't change the feed URL as happens with some services.

  • Podcast feed problem

I have a podcast, Worship Ministry Catalyst, that used to be available for search & download via the iTunes store, I got an email saying there was a problem with the feed. I followed all the steps to fix the problem, checked to make sure my feed would work in iTunes per the suggested steps in the email and it does in fact work again. I then have resubmitted the podcast to the directory, as I was instructed to do so through and email from apple, but haven't gotten any response. I need to see what I need to do to get that back in the store.
I submitted an email to support and got this response:
    1) Change the title and link fields of the RSS feed to something other than what they are now.
    2) Resubmit the podcast feed via iTunes.
    3) Once you have successfully submitted the podcast, you can change the title and link fields back to what they were.
The problem is, I don't want to change our feed, as we have many subscribers already on that feed. And I can't find anywhere through itunes that I can change it anyway.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you submit a feed the iTunes Store initially checks only the top episode of the feed. Your has no media file enclosed or even references. iTunes does not display episodes which have no media files, and as it cannot see a media file in the top episode is it returning the error you see.
You can have a mixture of episodes with and without media files in your feed if you wish: as said, iTunes will not display those with no media files; but when submitting your top episode must have a media file.

    LLeavy...
I can't help you in this thread. You need to create your own thread and post it in the main room. It will get a lot more traffic there. This thread is about my issue. What you're doing is actually hijacking someone else's thread and making it about another subject.
You'll get a lot more traffic directed at your issue if you create a thread in the main location found here...
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=781

Ok... here's what I've done to get it fixed.
The problem seems to be that there is a glitch for some of us, where iWeb "adds" a level to the url of the podcast info that is published in the RSS file.
    My correct podcast is ...
    http://www.SanctuaryOC.org/Sanctuary_Podcast/rss.xml
    What iWeb is publishing is...
    http://www.SanctuaryOC.org/SanctuaryOC/Sanctuary_Podcast/rss.xml
It has the extra "SanctuaryOC/" in the middle.
I figured out a work around by adding a folder that my website is published in on my server with the name "SanctuaryOC" even though that isn't one of my page links on the site. I then republished the site to my local disk, and loaded the "Sanctuary_Podcast" folder twice.
    Once to this path.... http://www.SanctuaryOC.org/SanctuaryOC
and once to this path... http://www.SanctuaryOC.org
I then resubmitted my podcast feed to iTunes, it has been accepted. The podcast feed is validated. It seems to be fine. I'm awaiting final approval from iTunes. But everything looks good now.
So... to review. If you're having trouble with some episodes no showing up in iTunes after the upgrade to iWeb '09. And you HAVE set your episode count to 50 in the podcast inspector, and you HAVE thrown away all of the preference files for iWeb, and you HAVE republished all of your folders and reloaded your site, and you HAVE spent many hours emailing back and forth with iTunes and iWeb support.
THEN... try this. It appears to have worked.

  • Several weeks after submitting podcast to iTunes and still not there

I submitted a podcast that I created for work many weeks ago now (over 1 month) and, for some reason, it still isn't showing up when I search for it in the iTunes store. I've tried resubmitting the podcast, but iTunes tells me that it has already been submitted.
    The feed is http://feeds.feedburner.com/ASHAPodcast
Of course, I can subscribe with a direct link, but I'd like it for folks to be able to search for it in iTunes to find it.
Anyone know what the problem is, or how I can resolve it?
    PC   Windows XP Pro

When you submitted the podcast to iTunes, if it was accepted, you should have received an email from the iTunes staff indicating that your podcast was accepted and it listed a link directly to the iTunes podcast page for that feed.
    Something like the following:
    Dear Podcast Owner
Your podcast, located at [ http://example.com/example.xml ], has been approved. You should expect to see it in iTunes within the next few hours. When it's available, you will be able to access it with the URL below.
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=0000000
If you have questions or wish to make changes to your feed, please consult the technical spec at http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/techspecs.html. The spec contains detailed information about key topics like adding "cover art", changing your feed URL, and adding other helpful iTunes-specific tags to your podcast.
There is also an Apple Discussions Forum exlcusively for podcast producers, located here: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1107. If you have a question or a problem that the technical spec cannot answer, the community of iTunes podcasters may be able to provide valuable guidance.
    Sincerely,
    The iTunes Store Team
If you never received an acceptance email, it may not have been accepted or it was sent to someone else. They will send an email to the <itunes:email> email address in the feed and the email address of the apple account who submitted the feed.

  • Video Podcast Trouble Using iWeb

    Hey,
I am having some problems with my video podcast and I was wondering if anyone could help me out any.
I am using the new iLife and iWeb, and have not been able to find much support on those programs. I listed my first video podcast without much problem at all.
My only problem was that the picture was incorrect in the store and when I tried to update the picture, it resulted in nothing but black. I followed all of the picture guidlines, so I dont know why its not showing up.
Secondly, my podcast was working fine for a couple of days, now it looks like there is trouble with the link. So, I dont know what to do anymore. I have resubmitted my podcast to Apple, so maybe that will help. The link to my podcast is:
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=120891660&s=143 441
Any help would be so appreciated!

Awesome. I would really appreciate the help.
I used the White Podcast template in IWeb.
I did think I resolved some of the issues with my link...or so I hope anyway. It turns out the my original link in iTunes store went dead. I think it was because there was another podcast listed under the same name. So I changed the name a little and resubmitted it to iTunes. It went back up today. The new link is:
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=120891660&s=143 441
The photo is still not working however...
    Thanks again for your help!

  • When will my podcast be approved?

I submitted a podcast more than 4 days ago. I received the initial confirmation of submission from Apple but haven't heard a thing since. I tried resubmitting the podcast, but I get the message that the podcast has already been submitted. My podcast feed is: http://www.rachelgrantcoaching.com/podcastgen/feed.xml
Any help at all is greatly appreciated!

It's usuallly a lot more than four days - there's no hard and fast answer but it could likely be a couple of weeks. I'm afraid it's just a question of waiting. Your feed looks to be OK.

  • Itunes keeps saying my podcast was already submitted

the host website for my podcast went down while (or before) itunes approved it. i tried resubmitting the podcast and it says the feed has already been submitted. i tried changing the title and link fields in the podcast, and itunes STILL says it's already been submitted. any help?

"Down" as in permanently and doesn't exist anymore or "down" as in down for a night for maintenance and is now back up?
If it's down for good...I'm assuming that the URL to your podcast has changed as well? you might try changing the name of the xml file as well...

  • I am stuck with submitting my podcast

I keep getting this message. This is for a new podcast. >-
We Could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection timed out.
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active then try again.
I have done everything in the FAQ and Techinal FAQ. I have checked my settings on my browser, on iTunes software and my firewall. Everything seems to be set they way it should be. I have had my feed verified. What can I do next?

Here is the response I received from Apple:
The iTunes team reviews each podcast submission. Depending on demand, it may take a week or two before the podcast is published.
I'm sorry to hear you received an error when you tried to publish a podcast to the iTunes Store. If you are resubmitting a podcast for review, the iTunes Store may detect the submission as a duplicate and generate an error message stating that the feed has already been submitted. You can follow these steps to resubmit the podcast:
    1) Change the title and link fields of the RSS feed to something other than what they are now.
    2) Resubmit the podcast feed via iTunes.
    3) Once you have successfully submitted the podcast, you can change the title and link fields back to what they were.
There are several less common reasons iTunes might have displayed this error:
    - The podcast's RSS feed was not available.
    - The podcast's RSS feed timed out.
    - The podcast's RSS feed could not be validated.
If you are the podcaster, make sure your podcast is available on the Internet. Your podcast's RSS feed also should conform to the iTunes extended podcast RSS specification.

If you're still having trouble, consider consulting the Apple Discussions forums, which have a wealth of information about specific issues. Click Producing Podcasts in the Pro Applications: Audio area of this page:
    http://discussions.apple.com
I'm going to try their suggestions now. Hope this helps!

  • Two Issues Related

    Hello,
First issue: I changed my website a bit, and in the process I changed the location of the old RSS feed for my podcast, and now iTunes subscriptions don't pick it up anymore.
Second Issue: I resubmitted the podcast using the new RSS Feed location. Apple sends back a confirmation e-mail telling me it's been accepted and will appear in a few hours. Days later it still doesn't show up for any search results.
Now, I know I could have prevented this in hindsight, but that's too late now. My question now, is what do I do about this, and what's the least traumatic way to fix it all.
I want to have only one podcast subscription the current one that works and get rid of the old broken one. (obviously) This is my first time working with podcasts and Itunes, so I'm still getting used to this whole thing, and the website is all done in iWeb.
    the site is www.drglass.org.
    thanks in advance,

The best way to communicate with the iTunes store techs is via the "Report a concern" link on your podcast's page in iTunes. You can remove duplicate feeds this way.
