Hi Rama,
I'm not entirely sure what information you are looking for .... do you mean you want details on how to set up the scenario of using a query as the information for subsequent queries? If so, return and I'm sure there are other users who have set up similar scenarios.
Also, if you go to the help.sap.com site (Service Market Place) and use 'resultset query' as the search criteria, you will find quite a lot of hits.
Hope this helps.

Query Performance and Result Set Query/Sub-Query
Hi,
I have an infoset with as many as <b>15 joins</b> with different ODS and Master Data..<b>The ODS are quite huge with 20 million, 160 million records)...</b>Its taking a lot of time even for a few days and need to get atleast 3 months data in a reasonable amount of time....
Could anyone please tell me whether <b>Sub-Query or Result Set Query have to be written against the same InfoProvider</b> (Cube, Infoset, etc)...or they can be used in queries
on different infoprovider...
Please suggest...Thanks in Advance.

AnilHi Bhanu,
Needed some help defining the Precalculated Value Set as I wasnt succesful....
Please suggest answers if possible for the questions below
1) Can I use Filter Criteria for restricting the value set for the characteristic when I Define a Query on an ODS. When i tried this it gave me errors as below ..
"System error in program CL_RSR_REQUEST and form EXECUTE_VTABLE:COB_PRO_GET_ALWAYS.... Error when filling value set DELIVERY..
Job cancelled after system exception ERROR_MESSAGE"
2) Can I create a create a Value Set predefined on an Infoset - Not Succesful as Infoset have names such as "InfosetName_F000232" and cannot find the characteristic in Paramter Tab for Value Set in Reprting Agent.
3) How does the precalculated value Set variable help if I am not using any Filtering Criteria and is storing the List of all values for the Variable from the ODS which consists of 20 millio records.
Thanks for your help.
Kind Regards

WEBI Sample Result Set Query Property Question
Wnen I set the WEBI Sample Result Set query property my retrievals took longer than I thought they should especially with a limited result set. When I hit the View SQL button and look at SQL I notice that the following order by is added to the query:
Order by dbms_random.value
I copied the query and ran it against our Oracle database with and without the order by. Without the order by the query ran significantly faster. Is there any way to stop the order by from being generated when the Sample Result Set property is set?
Thanks,
BobThanks for your reply.
I tried to locate the parameter you mentioned in the parameters for my universe and did not find anything referencing not enforcing order bys. I checked the documentation and did not see anything there either. Please respond with the exact name of the parameter or if it is a custom parameter the settings you used to create it.
Thanks,

Hi Experts,
I got one problem with my query information. when Im executing my report and drill my info in my navigation panel, Instead of a table with values the message "Result set is too large; data retrieval restricted by configuration" appears. I already applied "Note 1127156 - Safety belt: Result set is too large". I imported Support Package 13 for SAP NetWeaver 7. 0 BI Java (BIIBC13_0.SCA / BIBASES13_0.SCA / BIWEBAPP13_0.SCA) and executed the program SAP_RSADMIN_MAINTAIN (in transaction SE38), with the object and the value like Note 1127156 says... but the problem still appears....
what Should I be missing ?????? How can I fix this issue ????
Thank you very much for helping me out..... (Any help would be rewarded)
David CortéYou may ask your basis guy to increase ESM buffer (rsdb/esm/buffersize_kb). Did you check the systems memory?
Did you try to check the error dump using ST22 - Runtime error analysis?

Hi all,
At the moment we have some java classes (not ejb - cmp/bmp) for search in
our ejb application.
Now we have a problem i.e. records have grown too high( millions ) and
sometimes query results in retrieval of millions of records. It results in
too much memory consumtion in our ejb application. What is the best way to
address this issue.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Parvezyou can think of following options
1) paging: read only few thousands at a time and maintain a index to page
through complete dataset
2) caching!
a) you can create a serialized data file in server to cache the result set
and can use that to browse through. you may do on the fly
compression/uncompression while sending data to client.
b) applet based solution where caching could be in client side. Look in
http://www.sitraka.com/software/jclass/cs_ims.html

Thanks Slava Imeshev,
We already have search criteria and a limit. When records exceeds thatlimit
then we prompt user that it may take sometime, do you want to proceed? If
he clicks yes then we retrieve those records. This results in lot ofmemory
consumtion.
I was thinking if there is some way that from database I can retrieve some
block of records at a time rather the all records of a query. I wander how
internet search sites work, where thousnds of sites/pages match criteriaand
client can move back & front on any page.

Hi chauhan,
You may want to narrow search criteria along with processing a
limited number of resulting records. I.e. if the size of the result
is bigger than a limit, you stop fetching results and notify the client
that search criteria should be narrowed.

SQL query with parameter returns empty result set, please help !!!
Hi there,
When I use the following query :
<sql:query var="beroepsthemas" >
select *
from beroepsthemas
where beroepsthemaid = ?
<sql:param value="12"/>
</sql:query>
When I want to browse the result set with :
<c:forEach items="${beroepsthemas.rows}" var="rij">
it shows no records. But it must return at least one.
All my jsp pages with sql queries and parameters have the same problem.
This is all on my test environment. I'm using Ubuntu 5.10, Netbeans5.0, JDK 1.5_06, application runs in Bundeled Tomcat 5.5.9, MySQL 4.1.12, mysql-connector3.1.6
When the same code is run on the live environment, it works just fine.
The difference is :
Mysql 4.1.10a, tomcat5.5.9, mysql-connector3.1.6
What can there be wrong !!When the same code is run on the live environment, it
works just fine.
The difference is :
Mysql 4.1.10a, tomcat5.5.9, mysql-connector3.1.6
I didn't catch this. I think you may need to update the database driver. -

Please could any one help me urgently as the sql query is supposed to be correct as it is returning query results, but the problem happening when i try to select whole result set.
Thanks and regards,What does the XML look like? It appears that some of the supposed XML stored as a CLOB is not really valid XML. Find the row in the table that is causing your issue and review the "XML" in it.

Stepping through a query result set, replacing one string with another.
I want to write a function that replaces the occurance of a string with another different string. I need it to be a CF fuction that is callable from another CF function. I want to "hand" this function an SQL statement (a string) like this: (Please note, don't bother commenting that "there are eaiser ways to write this SQL..., I've made this simple example to get to the point where I need help. I have to use a "sub_optimal" SQL syntax just to demonstrate the situation)
Here is the string I want to pass to the function:
SELECT
[VERYLONGTABLENAME].FIRST_NAME,
[VERYLONGTABLENAME].LAST_NAME,
[VERYLONGTABLENAME].ADDRESSS
FROM
LONGTABLENAME [VERYLONGTABLENAME]
Here is the contents of the ABRV table:
TBL_NM, ABRV <!--- Header row--->
VERYLONGTABLENAME, VLTN
SOMEWHATLONGTALBENAME, SLTN
MYTABLENAME, MTN
ATABLENAME, ATN
The function will return the original string, but with the abreviations in place of the long table names, example:
SELECT
VLTN.FIRST_NAME,
VLTN.LAST_NAME,
VLTN.ADDRESSS
FROM
LONGTABLENAME VLTN
Notice that only the table names surrounded by brackets and that match a value in the ABRV table have been replaced. The LONGTABLENAME immediately following the FROM is left as is.
Now, here is my dum amatuer attempt at writing said function: Please look at the comment lines for where I need help.
<cffunction name="AbrvTblNms" output="false" access="remote" returntype="string" >
<cfargument name="txt" type="string" required="true" />
<cfset var qAbrvs=""> <!--- variable to hold the query results --->
<cfset var output_str="#txt#"> <!--- I'm creating a local variable so I can manipulate the data handed in by the TXT parameter. Is this necessary or can I just use the txt parameter? --->
<cfquery name="qAbrvs" datasource="cfBAA_odbc" result="rsltAbrvs">
SELECT TBL_NM, ABRV FROM BAA_TBL_ABRV ORDER BY 1
</cfquery>
<!--- I'm assuming that at this point the query has run and there are records in the result set --->
<cfloop index="idx_str" list="#qAbrvs#"> <!--- Is this correct? I think not. --->
<cfset output_str = Replace(output_str, "#idx_str#", ) <!--- Is this correct? I think not. --->
</cfloop> <!--- What am I looping on? What is the index? How do I do the string replacement? --->
<!--- The chunck below is a parital listing from my Delphi Object Pascal function that does the same thing
I need to know how to write this part in CF9
while not Eof do
begin
s := StringReplace(s, '[' +FieldByName('TBL_NM').AsString + ']', FieldByName('ABRV').AsString, [rfReplaceAll]);
Next;
end;
--->
<cfreturn output_txt>
</cffunction>
I'm mainly struggling with syntax here. I know what I want to happen, I know how to make it happen in another programming language, just not CF9. Thanks for any help you can provide.RedOctober57 wrote:...

One:
<cfset var output_str="#txt#"> <!--- I'm creating a local
variable so I can manipulate the data handed in by the TXT parameter.
Is this necessary or can I just use the txt parameter? --->
No you do not need to create a local variable that is a copy of the arguments variable as the arguments scope is already local to the function, but you do not properly reference the arguments scope, so you leave yourself open to using a 'txt' variable in another scope. Thus the better practice would be to reference "arguments.txt" where you need to.
Two:
I know what I want to happen, I know how to make it happen in another programming language, just not CF9.
Then a better start would be to descirbe what you want to happen and give a simple example in the other programming language. Most of us are muti-lingual and can parse out clear and clean code in just about any syntax.
Three:
<cfloop index="idx_str" list="#qAbrvs#"> <!--- Is this correct? I think not. --->
I think you want to be looping over your "qAbrvs" record set returned by your earlier query, maybe.
<cfloop query="qAbrvs">
Four:
<cfset output_str = Replace(output_str, "#idx_str#", ) <!--- Is this correct? I think not. --->
Continuing on that assumption I would guess you want to replace each instance of the long string with the short string form that record set.
<cfset output_str = Replace(output_str,qAbrs.TBLNM,qAbrs.ABRV,"ALL")>
Five:
</cfloop> <!--- What am I looping on? What is the index? How do I do the string replacement? --->
If this is true, then you are looping over the record set of tablenames and abreviations that you want to replace in the string. -

%>Please state your problem that you are having more clearly so we can help.
I looked at your code I here are a few things you might consider:
It looks like you are putting freely typed-in comments from end-users into an xml document.
The problem with this is that the user may enter characters in his text that have special meaning
to xml and will have to be escaped correctly. Some of these characters are less than character, greater than character and ampersand character.
You may also have a similiar problem displaying them on your JSP page since there may be special characters that JSP has.
You will have to read up on how to deal with these special characters (I dont remember what the rules are). I seem to recall
if you use CDATA in your xml, you dont have to deal with those characters (I may be wrong).
When you finish writing your code, test it by entering all keyboard characters to make sure they are processed, stored in the database,
and re-displayed correctly.
Also, it looks like you are putting business logic in your JSP page (creating an xml file).
The JSP page is for displaying data ONLY and submitting back to a servlet. Put all your business logic in the servlet. Putting business logic in JSP is considered bad coding and will cause you many hours of headache trying to debug it. Also note: java scriptlets in a JSP page are only run when the JSP page is compiled into a servlet by java. It does not run after its compiled and therefore you cant call java functions after the JSP page is displayed to the client. -

How to export result set from mysql query browser to .sql in oracle
Hi folks:
I was trying to export result set from MySql query browser to Oracle. I could able to do
File->Export Result Set-> Excel format...
What I am trying to get is .sql file so that I can run it as a script in my oracle db. Is there any way we can get .sql file with inserts and delimeters ....?
Did you guys get my question.?
Please throw some light on this....
Could be very appreciable ....
Thanks
Sudhir NaiduHi
Create a sql statement which generates the insert statements.
Something like this:
select 'insert into table1 (column1, column2, column3) values (' ||
column1 || ', ' || column2 || ', ' || column3 || ');' from table 1;
The || sign is the string concatenation sign in Oracle, replace it the appropriate sign in MySql. Export the result set of this query into a file, and you can run it in a SqlPlus.

Returning a result set/record from a dynamic query

The above code is working in one of our application; which is using ref cursor as result set and get from procedure. I hope you can found more code by google and/or search in this forum as well; if above code is not useful to you.

Hi,
Can I know the order in which Oracle outputs the result set of a simple SELECT query ? Will the output always be same as the order in which rows got inserted ?
Please advise,
Thanks,

It will not always be the same as the order in which rows got inserted. -
Design a procedure which returns a result set of a select Query
Hi...
Can some one help me out with a brief design or work around for creating a stored procedure which runs a select Query and Returns a result set...
If not a stored procedure, at least a function which makes the job simple....
Awaiting help in this regard ........Hi...
I am sorry for providing insufficient Info...
Actually I am using Oracle 10G DB...
I have a select Query..
Since I am a part of team which is building a Complete Data Driven site, Even an SQL Query and a PL/SQL function body was stored in the Table itself to bring in some kind of Dynamism in the site.... But the master table was loaded with a lot of data and hence Now we decided to Store everythin in a generic package..
I used REF CURSORS to store a result set of a simple SELECT Query.... and declaring it as an out parameter in my Procedure body so that the JAVA team can directly access the Procedure from the JAVA layer....
Now I want to know can I do anything more efficient to carry out the above operation.... -
Query result set...
I'm having trouble determining a good way to word my question. So, I believe my pseudo code below will be sufficient in doing so.

DESIRED result set:

1 21
2 55 -- 21 + 33 (the sum of day 1 + the sum of day 2)I realize that I can get the desired result set from above with the code below. However, for my actual issue I have several other data points and 100 of distinct days that I need to do this for. So doing a 100 UNION statement isn't exactly going to work.

UNION ALL
SELECT SUM(col1) AS col_total
FROM temp
WHERE day <= 2Edited by: user652714 on Aug 13, 2012 9:55 PMHi,
I see now what you want . You can use this:
select *
from tt
order by col_1;
COL_1 DAY
1 1
2 1
3 1
4 1
5 1
6 1
7 2
8 2
9 2
10 2
10 rows selected.
select day, sum(total) over (order by day) COL_TOTAL
from
(select day, sum(col_1) TOTAL
from tt
group by day
DAY COL_TOTAL
1 21
2 55
2 rows selected.
