Resultset exhausted
Tech gurus,
I have a databse in Oracle which runs an PLM application for three years. After all these years I get an error in my log files saying "resultset exhausted" or "out of memory" error. The database and the application server runs on Solaris. I have detected the program to throwing this error, and have taken great car to see that all open result sets have been closed. Also I have restarted my Oracle databse and Application but now a complete restart of Solaris. I am still geting this error. All my operations have stopped due to this.
Tech gurus, suggest me a way out of this.

This error has nothing to do with whether you
closed the resultset or notLet me rephrase that. This could happen if you close
it and try to reuse after you close it or the
statement. What I mean is you keep suggesting that
you've cleaned up the ResultSet when you are done.
That's good but it's not related to this issue
e unless your cleanup is happening too early.I think our point is just that it could also be happening in a case where the ResultSet is being closed implictly. There is no close in the code I posted and yet the first ResultSet would get closed...and throw an error similar to that described.

I am having problem obtaining proper Resultset from a excuteQuery() method.
i can successfully create a JDBC connection to local oracle database (on my computer) and excute a query on a table named "emp" which contains two records; however when i print out my Resultset using getInt(String coloumName), compiler error says "Exhausted Resultset".

JAVA compiler compiles upto excuteQuery("select ...") statement and at that point returns an empty Resultset objet (i think)
i copied this code from an example giving in a programming book using oracle 10g on JDK1.5SE.
can anyone make some suggestion about how to fix this error?
tingOkay a few points here to clear some things up and move you forward.
1) What you are getting are not compilation errors. They are runtime errors. You made this mistake at least twice (once in your original post and once in your follow up) and it's worth clarifying because runtime errors and compile time errors are not the same thing. And that's worth knowing if for no other reason then in future if you ask for help with "compilation" errors that are actually runtime errors you may well find that you confuse the heck out of people and can't be helped.
2) What the good doctor was pointing out is that you should not be throwing away the value of rs.next no matter if you feel the table should have records or not. Your code should look like this
if(rs.next()){
// do something
}else{
// do something else
}Because that will handle either way and your program won't come to a screeching halt because you tried to read a value that doesn't exist in the ResultSet.
So no matter how you get this resolved your code should still end up looking like the above (or similar). At any rate make use of the boolean returned from the next method.
3) On to your actual problem. Well first you need to cross off any silly mistakes that do happen from time to time. Like are you sure you are talking to the "right" database. Again this may seem silly but it does happen.
If that checks out then almost certainly yes this is some sort of Oracle permissions related issue. This seems to happen with Oracle more than other databases, I suspect because Oracle more than others associates table statistics with user permissions, but this could be totally unwarranted and simply based on my experience here which is many people having similar types of problems. The best way to resolve this is to make sure that you are logging in with the same credentials as you use in SQLPlus.
If all else fails talk to your DBA. This is an Oracle related issue of some sort but it's very difficult to diagnose specifically over the internet. -
JBuilder 3.1 Deployment/JDBC Exception - Exhausted Resultset
I just installed JBuilder 3.1 with Oracle 8i (8.1.6) on NT workstation w/SP5 and am receiving error "java.sql.SQLException: Exhausted Resultset" upon choosing deploy for sample "Auctions" application profile. I have an idea this has to do with the number of rows returned by SQL statement associated with ResultSet rset declaration in method getvalue but don't know for sure. What's happening here?

It's probably a mistake you made when posting your code, but your query string is incorrect it should be either:
select name from employee where name = 'SMITH' order by nameor
select a.name from employee a where a.name = 'SMITH' order by a.nameIn other words you have prefixed a column with a table alias but have not indicated a table alias in the query.
Also, shouldn't your code be:
for (int i = 0; i < parameterValues.length; i++) {
statement.setString(i + 1, parameterValues[ i ]);
}Or was the "[ i ]" part giving you trouble? (Since "[ i ]" -- without the spaces -- is treated as a text-formatting tag.)
While I didn't try your specific query, I have no problem using "PreparedStatment"s with parameters.
What is your environment? Mine is:
Oracle 10g (10.1.0.4) database on Linux (Red Hat)
JDK 1.4.2
ojdbc14.jar JDBC driver (latest version)

The packet size is already only 1000. When I clicked F1 on the packet size, the documentation said that if I want to pull a large amount of transaction data, the value can be changed from 1000 to upto 50000 for Oracle. I tried changing it to 50000 and tried pulling data from RSA3. Still it shows the same error.

ResultSet next() w/ threads
Hi,
I have a problem to get a complete set of records when using the next() method. I'm running this w/ threads and using the Runnable method (run()) as a template method to run all select and other sql statements per a thread. There is an inner class in run() with a synchronized method, and I think, this synchronized method should be enough to protect sovereignty for each thread while they are doing their work. When several threads are invoked, it happens that once in a while I get all records, but if I repeat the same test then it seems as next() doesn't return all records always. I get an exception 'Exhausted ResultSet'. The problem seems to be irregular.
The question 2: How accurate and reliable is the method getTime()? How does it pick up the time? Is it using a clock in a system?

accessed simultaneously by more than one session. This can usually happen when your server is under heavy loading (though not the only reason) and the ResultSet object, being entirely dependent on the Statement Object that created it, is closed at the instant two session try to access the statement object simultaneously.
The result is the Statement Object trying to close the same ResultSet
Object twice.
So i guess ur resultset and statement are not snchronised.Do check out once -

Using the same code, but with different drivers I get :

Both are talking to an 8.1.7 server.
The problems are coming at different points in the code, and seem
to be data/volume based - they are reproducible in the main, but
don't always happen.
I've checked the forums for both of these problems, but nothing
seems to match my approach - just loads of calls to simple
prepared statements generated for an OO/RDB mapping.
Any pointers appreciated - such as why these happen?

"End of TNS data channel" is usually a message sent by the database when something erroneous is occuring.
What version of the database, JDBC, and JDK are you using?
Are you getting any dump files from the database?
Can you describe a little more about what the application code is doing?

I'm getting desperate for a solution to this problem (as is the rest of the development team!).
Basically we've been trying to create a system that automatically assigns values (frequencies) to objects (nodes) based on a rule set. Each node contains a varying number of sub-objects (radios) and each radio needs one frequency. The database has been set up and has test data for our Solution class to go through. However, we've run into an odd problem where our ResultSets are suddenly closing.
The classes work like this:
Database Broker (handles connection to DB, as well as executeQuery and executeUpdate statements.)
Entry Broker (Holds all SQL statements for data retrieval in various methods. Each method contains an SQL statement to access data, and code to format that data into something useable by the main class.
Solution/Main class (Contains methods to use the data from the Entry Broker to test valid solutions. Certain rules apply to assigning frequencies to radios and this class ensures that the data applies to these rules before it writes the data back to the DB (via the EntryBroker).
The problem we continually run into is that whilst the ResultSets work fine in the Entry Broker, they are closed when they return to the Main class.
Here's the catch: It seems in most cases that only the FIRST ResultSet returned in each method is closed, the remaining ResultSets work fine. We worked around this problem by creating a 'dummy' ResultSet, which obtained data from the database which was never used (the project name). We put this in its own try catch bracket so it would not interrupt the project.
It worked fine for a few classes, but for others (notably the following one) it was ineffective. We've searched and searched but we cannot find anyone with a similar complaint (except a few people who have commented about ODBC version problems). Our ODBC version is 3.520.7713.0

I'll leave it at that, since the program goes into an endless loop. The dummy Exceptions are our dummy resultsets crashing so the rest can survive. The other stuff is from different methods. You should be able to locate the logic of the program by following the System.outs
Test Markers with EB refer to the Entry Broker.
Any help would be appreciated since we cannot find any other way of running this class successfully.
SteveOk problem solved...
Basically I was calling one ResultSet after another. Thanks to the Database Broker's structure, this was killing the first ResultSet. I fixed up the loops so that ResultSets were only ever called just before they were needed, and it fixed the problem. The only other errors were simple logic faults which I drummed out in short order. Thanks for the help everyone! -

Error while assigning resultset value to Querytable variable in Coldfusion 10
