Resume a playlist ?

I have a Zen Vision M and just cannot believe how this thing is working. I have thousands of songs in several different playlists that I want to randomize then play different playlists at different times having the player resume the last playlist where I was. I have these problems:. Just making the playlist is ridiculous. I already have all the songs under a directory like jazz, or rock, or 80s. I cannot just pick a parent folder and have all the children get added to the playlist.2. I cant seem to randomize the playlist and save the randomized list. This would not be a problem if it could remember where it was. For example, if you are on shuffle, and a song just finished playing TWO SECONDS AGO, you cannot hit the back button and see what that song even was because the shuffle is just constantly shuffling everything no matter if you go forward or backward.3. Bookmarks, useless. I really want to automatically bookmark the playlist. By default, it seems to me, the playlist should resume where it was.4. Shuffle, worthless. I dont want to shuffle every time I play a playlist, it just causes you to hear the same song over randomly while some dont get played ever. I just want a random list that I can get through every song. It may take months, and I may go to other playlists in that time.5. Sync, worthless. I have all my songs on my computer, the way I want them. It is not how I want them on the Zen M. I never want to sync them. But If I push tons of songs to the zen, then want to edit a playlist on the pc to do something like randomize i then save this random list, I have to bring every **bleep** song in that playlist over just to change the playlist??I see some other methods of moving playlists to the pc to edit them, and that works after a great deal of fooling around, but still, not being able to resume the playlist makes it all a waste. Just totally baffled by all these things.

Resume music playlist after power off?

Just graduated from a 3G iPod to a 32gb 2nd gen iTouch. On my old iPod, I could listen to a playlist, power off in the middle, and the iPod would resume playback from that exact point.
This isn't happening with the iTouch.
Am I missing a setting? I've seen the threads about "resume playback" checkbox in iTunes, but that doesn's seem to work for related iTouch questions...

This is how the Zen operates, more or less. Under the current firmware, your place will be saved if you turned the Zen off for less than about an hour or two. This is because the Zen goes into a "sleep" mode. You can tell the Zen was in sleep mode if, when you turn it on, all you see is "Zen" and the player turns on in a second or two.
If the Zen has been off for more than an hour or two, it turns off completely. You can tell this because the screen shows "Creative", then "Zen", and takes about 5-7 seconds to boot up. In this case, the Zen will lose your place.
I agree that this is far from ideal, to say the least. I find myself having to navigate back to the right folder to get to the next track in my audio book all the time.
I understand that things were different with earlier firmwares, before they had the "sleep" mode. Hopefully they can fix this problem in a future firmware release.

Could there be an update with the feature to pause/resume separate playlists as desired?

This would really come in handy for those of us who dont like shuffling our songs, but dont want to re-listen to the same songs when we leave the playlist then come back to it at a later point in time.

Spotify not able to resume playing offline playlist without network connection

I got a playlist downloaded for offline play.When I stop playing the offline playlist, close Spotify from the app switcher, switch my iphone to airplane mode and re-open Spotify then I'm not able to continue to play the playlist that I paused earlier. At the bottom of the app I just see "Spotify is offline." If I disable airplane mode then my previously played song pops up from the bottom of Spotify app and I'm able to resume the playlist. Why does Spotify need network connection to resume a playlist that's downloaded for offline play?

Listening to multiple playlists at once

Is there a way to start listening to a playlist on an iPod, but after a few songs start a different playlist, and then later go back to the first one but at the place where you left off? In other words, avoid having to start over every time you play a song in the playlist. Thanks.

There is no way to resume a playlist from where it left off at after listening to another one.

Update stops playlist

I have a big playlist that I play random tracks from. Whenever I plug the iPod into my computer, even when I only want to charge it again, it updates the iPod, then returns to the main menu. It has lost its place in the playlist - I have to select "Music" - "Playlists" - "My Playlist", then scroll to some song that I don't mind starting with and start playing.
This is getting annoying. I would like to have some chance of getting through my 1700-song playlist randomly, but unless I leave the thing constantly plugged into the computer and leave the computer always turned on, it will never happen. I can't find any way, once it's gone back to the main menu, to resume the playlist it was last playing. Is there something I can do so that update will not reset the playlist position?

Wow - I didn't know you could do that. The smart playlist feature is way more sophisticated than the manual let on. That is almost exactly what I wanted (the only better thing would be to have it pick up with the song it was last playing, but it doesn't update the play count until it's finished, so it stays on the playlist - thus that's a minor nit). IPod mini software issue?

When I let pause a playlist and it goes into sleep, the only way I can resume the playlist without it going back to song number 1 is waking it up by attaching the iTrip. The other problem I am having is when I use the click wheel to go to another menu, I cannot go back to the main menu. Even when I let it go to sleep it won't return. I have to do a reset on it.
While playing songs on the play list, the backlight will switch on and the screen shows that it has returned to the main menu, at this point I cannot pause any music, nor can I increase the volume etc.
I have downloaded the lastest version of software for my iPod, but that didn't seem to rectify the problem.
This issue is relatively new, I have had my iPod mini since Jan 2005, and have noticed this happening for the past 2 months or so.
Any help would be appreciated as I use my iPod all the time and am getting quite frustrated with it.

If you've restored the iPod and it hasn't cured the issue, then I would suggest you take advantage of your 'about to expire' warranty, and send it for service.

Shuffle playlist 'resumes' from the beginning (repost)

I often disconnect my headphones, but the shuffle away then come back and connect my headphones and start up again right where I left off.
Are you talking about after you sync the unit up with your computer?
What are you doing that then results in the shuffle not being where you left off?

You could recharge off of a USB power 'brick' instead of connecting it to iTunes.
If you always need to listen to the items in sequence, you could tell itunes it is an audiobook and to remember its place. Select all the tracks, do get info and then under the options you can tell it the kind of media it is.
The ultimate solution for you tho might be to stitch all those seperate files into one big file. If you then set it in options to remember where you left off, it will remember that even after connecting to iTunes.

Problems concerning sonata playlists and freevo cover art

Hi!
I'm setting up a media center PC and I'm having some problems with the playlists created by sonata. Another problem I have is not getting freevo to download cover art.
First: When ever I try to make a playlist through the "Current" tab in Sonata it creates a m3u file with every song that's listed in the current window. I'm used to being able to pick one or a couple of songs and then adding it a specified playlist. Is this impossible in sonata? And if I try to play the m3u file created (the one with every song listed) through freevo I get a message that the directory is empty. What am I doing wrong??
Second: I'm having big problems getting freevo to download cover art to my music. I can download info on movies from imdb, but info for the music doesn't work. I store the cover art downloaded by sonata in the different album folders and these covers show up in freevo. But if I have to play every new song i download first in sonata to get the cover art working in freevo I'll go crazy. It's supposed to work the same way in freevo as in sonata isn't it???
It also seems that mplayer can't play m3u files. Using the mentioned sonata made m3u file in mplayer does nothing. Mplayer starts but nothing happens.
My goal is to be able to make playlists through sonata and then play these lists using freevo. I don't want to get up from the couch.

It's clearly not impossible, just different than you expect. Create your playlist as you want it to appear in the Current tab (meaning don't dump every single song from your library in there, just the ones you want) and then save the playlist.

If you download the "Podcast" app, podcasts can still be added to iTunes playlist which you can listen to on your Mac. But when you sync that playlist to iPhone, it will omit all of the podcasts.
Previously, the workaround was not to download the Pocast app. That way, podcasts remained in iTunes where they could still exist in with music in the same playlist. But as of iOS7, you are required to install the "Podcasts" to be able listen to podcast at all. No more workaround.
Why does this matter? Some people, like me want to drive or exercise while listening to a mix of music and podcasts. Apple's "improvements" have restricted the way that I am able to use iTunes.
I can only think of these solutions:
Convert the podcast into AAC or other format. Then iTunes sees it as "music" and it will stay in the playlist. Cons: 1. Burdensome. 2. Removes the resume feature from the podcast.
Use a different iPhone app. Spotify lets you drag any track (even podcasts) into a playlist and they stay there when synced to the Spotify iPhone app. Cons: 1. Requires Spotify premium service to listen to playlists on iPhone. 2. The resume feature is removed. 3. Very difficult to forward and rewind. 4. Some podcasts are rejected by the Spotify playlist, although its rare. 5. After being imported, the tracked need to be synced to the phone via WiFi (as with all tracks that are not offered via Spotify.)
I am using the Spotify solution but am interested to know if there is an Apple solution. Or maybe I am the only one that wants to mix podcasts with music.

I have tried and failed to copy my iTunes library and playlists from my Windows 8 desktop to my Windows 7 laptop using an external hard drive. Can it be done? Help would be appreciated.

Migrate an iTunes library from one computer to another
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entireiTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one, with ratings, play counts, playlists etc. preserved. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd normally recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library and unlike copying with Windows Explorer the process can be resumed if it is interrupted and it will continue to the next item if there are any read/access errors.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See Make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then seeRecover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

IPod no longer resumes play where last paused

After the 3.0 update, I've noticed that after pausing the iPod and then using the phone for other things, it will no longer resume play where I last paused. For example, I shuffle almost 100% of the time I play music. If I pause the music to surf the internet or otherwise do other things on the iPhone, when I go back to play music, it is no longer paused on the last song it was playing ("Now Playing" should be displayed on upper right corner), but now starts a new shuffle; i.e., no previous songs played.
Has anybody else noticed this?

I can confirm, that the playback problem, where iPod starts at the beginning of the first song on your iPhone, still exists with OS3.1. I have written my second feedback to Apple regarding this issue, one for 3.0 and one for 3.1.
I do have playlists in use, but I dont believe, that they have something to do with this issue.

IPod Classic 120gb resume function

I've recently purchased a 120gb iPod classic. It does something no other iPod I've owned does, and it's driving me nuts and I want to shut it off, but don't know how.
If I skip to the next track in a playlist, the next time the song that I skipped comes on (or I select it), it resumes the song from the point at which I skipped it last time! It's starting songs half way through, and is doing this for just about every song in some playlists. I'm getting the tail end of songs, songs starting 10 seconds in...
How do I turn off this resume function, or at least clear it between listens?

Are you sure it only happens on the iPod? iTunes has a option to "remember playback positon" which can be set independently for each track. This option should also control how the iPod behaves. I tend to set it to Yes for anything longer than 10 mins and all my podcasts & audiobooks. If you've managed to get too many tracks with the option in iTunes just set things the way you'd like them and sync/reload your iPod. Otherwise try reseting or restoring the iPod.

Use Flash Media Server to stream the files.......set up a timer and have all three of them play at once....and have a button switch the streams depending upon which stream you want to play.....and wallah......
you can also capture the stream.time from the video playing and resume from that point on the other videos as well....havent done this theoretically so I dont know how smooth the transistion between streams will be....but it can be done....
plus u may have to use double buffering techniques to make sure it starts up right away......
