Resume Download - Safari

Hello, I'm using Safari 2.0.4 (419.3) and I'm wondering if it's possible for the download manager within Safari to resume downloads without completely restarting them.
What has been happening recently during large file transfers (800MB for a game demo for instance) is that the download may stop 95% of the way through, then loose the connection with the server. This is a large file over the internet, no problem, I completely understand things happen. After all in this case it's a file server over seas and has been downloading for over 1 hour and 45 min already, an interruption is imminent.
What I don't understand is why it seems I have to completely restart the download from scratch with Safari's built in download manager, wait another 1 hour and 30 min before this might happen again, or maybe just 45 min, then have to restart from scratch again effectively taking all night to baby sit. I'm trying out 'Speed Download 4' for the time being and so far it seems to be able to resume from where ever the file left off (same file as I've tried earlier) rather than completely restart.
I'd much rather use Safari's built in DL manager, but only if it's able to actually resume downloads from where it left off. Is this possible?

It sounds like the content provider needs a Safari specific provision to continue downloads from where they've left off? Then how is SpeedDownload able to continue when Safari can't?

Resume Download after sleep

Hi,
When mbp is sent to sleep, safari stops all downloads but doesnt clear from list. When waking up, you click resume download but it starts downloading the file again right from the start despite the fact that it had already downloaded part of it before it was in sleep mode.
Is there any way to change this, other than using firefox which resumes downloads from the position it was last in before sleep mode.

Yes, a pain! I was downloading a Apple Developers video of size 707MB and reached 699MB when I briefly lost my Internet connection .... restarted from zero!! Ahhhrrrr ..... other download apps. inc. Safari keep a cache, why doesn't iTunes. More stupidity from Apple.

Proxy 4.0.3 - ftp fails to resume downloads

We have Proxy 4.0.3 running on Solaris 9 Sparc. Http, https work fine, but ftp has several problems:
1) When downloading file through proxy, proxy does not report file size.
2) if a download fails, user cannot simply resume it -- proxy reports it can't resume downloads, and user has to start all over again.
3) If download fails several times, proxy stops serving file completely -- it resets connection and write line like this to error log:
CORE3282: stdout: gc channel: ftp.chg.ru anonymous:sunproxy@
Tested with more than 5 ftp clients and different computers.
What can be done about that?

Go to your Safari preferences ,then choose "Security" then "Show Cookies."
Then type in "Apple" and choose delete for all Apple cookies that appear.
Restart Safari.
Let us now how that works, OK?

Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!

For 10.6.8 you need Safari 5.1.10.
Ideally, you'd now install a system backup made before you got 6.0.4 on there... if that's not possible, download Safari 5.1.10 for Snow Leopard & use Pacifist to 'force' the install, then restart. Backup first, if you haven't already.

Hi all, forgive the caps. I've been trying to download Safari for the last one hour unsuccessfully.
Just switched from Linux to an old iMac, reinstalled it with Mac OSX and to my horror the default browser is IE5 (I have lived IE-free for a few years now!). Tried to download Safari from this bloody IE5 and can't. Every link on the 'net points back to apple.com/safari/download and there's this FRAME that IE5 just won't render. After like 10mins, there is a form with option (Leopard vs Tiger) and your email address, and then it says my session has timed out!
So I haven't been able to get safari. Would somebody point out just how i can get just the bloody binary. It has never been frustrating to install a software. Not even in Linux.

How do I download Safari for Mountain Lion?

How do I download Safari for Mountain Lion? It's not in the App Store, it is nowhere on the Apple website . . . OK, so I guess it is supposed to be part of Mountain Lion, but I am running Mountain Lion and whatever version of Safari I ended up with would not even run at all . . . so I trashed it (or at least what part of it I was allowed to trash) and though reinstalling it would be a good idea . . . but I can't find one to reinstall. The latest version I can find is for Leopard, and of course that won't run.
Not to mention that since getting Mt Lion, iPhoto won't run . . . it produces an error message saying I need to check with the developer to make sure it runs with this version of OS X! So I wonder who the developer of iPhoto is, who produces software that is incompatible with Mt Lion???
And even in submitting this there is no option to tag it for any OS later than 10.7.4!!

Since Safari is crashing, post a crash report... reinstalling the OS X rarely helps a browser crash issue.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash information.
Copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.

If a server supports resuming downloads then the download should continue where it left off.<br />
You can test that by simple starting a large download and wait a minute or so before pausing it.<br />
Then you can close and restart Firefox and see if resuming works.
You can set the pref browser.download.manager.quitBehavior to 2 on the about:config page.<br />
That will make Firefox ask for confirmation if you want to cancel the download if you close Firefox.

Apple is pretty much the only one who does not support other platforms and it will be their downfall in the future. I have bought a few hundred tracks (and one movie) from iTunes before the competition started to catch up. Their Cloud service just came into Finland but I've already moved on to others. I've also bought music from Spotify, Nokia Music and Xbox Music. I've been a subscriber of Nokia Music, Xbox Music and now Google Music. I'm also a Netflix subscriber and I have a local IPTV service that also provides movie rentals from various providers - and guess what, they also work on all platforms.
The reality is that today was the first time in a long long time that I've actually even bothered to open iTunes. Lack of platform support will destroy iTunes in the long run. Apple is starting to look like Microsoft once did. Today you can even get Office for almost every platform - even mobile devices.
Limited access and/or features is also one of the biggest reasons that turn people away from legit services. DRM protected music was the reason I had over 20,000 MP3s before it was removed from iTunes. When that happened I deleted all the old files and became a honest, paying customer.

Sorry to say that Apple isn't the best choice in that department as they are primarily a consumer products company, they don't cater to business needs with their offerings.
Phill Scheiler actually said they are interested in the 50% share of the consumer market.
Apple has discontinued their X-Server and now OS X server is really just a hobbyist pursuit, not a serious business solution. The Mac Pro hasn't been updated in ages.
Mac's can be used on Windows, Unix and Linux servers, but on that side of things it's best to use the services of a local server technician. Linux costs nothing for the licenses and is very secure and highly configurable.
You also can go Red Hat Linux which is a commercial version of Linux which requires licenses, but you get the better security and reliability plus business support.
All I can suggest is evaluate your local offerings from many of those type local server business services in you area and go from there. You'll likely be a mixed shop for quite some time or perhaps forever as some won't give up Windows like some won't give up their Mac's.
Also Mac's are not very cost effective anymore, Apple changes the operating system annually which require new software/paid upgrades, Windows 7 will last another decade and offer desktop models that parts can be exchangesd or replaced in house, unlike Mac's which one has to bring it in and AppleCare expires in three years.
So buisnesss and profit speaking Windows is pretty good, but if your like Google who has a big bank account then replacing Mac's every couple of years is nothing.
