Resume from Standby not by opening the cover

Hello,
I'm using Arch with KDE4. Standby really works fine with my Dell XPS1530 but it wakes up as soon as I open the cover. I would like to resume by clicking the power button.
(If I'm not using the battery but the power plug I have to use the button instead of open the cover.)
Anyone knows where I can configure that?
thanks in advance,
Jan

this is a behavior of the xps m1530. the only thing you can do, is to check the bios settings...

  • When resuming from standby mouse-click/keyboard doesn't work.

When resuming from standby about 80% of the time the mouse on my Macbook Pro (Early 2011) stops working. I think it is a software issue. It appears that the mouse will do a click or click and drag but will not let go when removing my fingers. The issue only happens within 5seconds of waking up. The issue is only fixed with a hard reboot. I can bring up the shutdown menu, but am unable to slect shut down as the mouse/keyboard won't give input. This issue was present in Lion and was gone for the first few months of Mavericks but appeared again this week.
I can freely move around the mouse cursor and enter expose with three fingers but cannot select anything.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

You can use viewToModel() method to get caret position for x, y location. No need to click.

  • Resume from standby does NOT ask for password--how to fix?

On my X240, when I resume from standby, I am NOT being asked for my password. But I want to.
In Power Manager, in Events, I keep setting Require password on standby resume to yes, but the computer comes out of standby when I touch the keyboard, without asking for my password.
NB I work with the laptop closed, and docked in a Targus dock. Under AC settings, for the lid closed event, I have set it to Do Nothing

    Hi,
Pardon a silly question, but is it actually resuming from standby or just re-activating the display?  By that I mean that the screen is blank but the laptop isn't yet in standby mode.
How do you have the screen blank and standby timers set and how do they compare to the times that you observe the problem?

Firefox sent an email to me to confirm that I had asked the above question. The email had a link to click. When I clicked it from Firefox, nothing happened. Then I opened IE, signed into Comcast, opened the email, clicked the link, and it brought me here.

    • Restore Permissions, using Disk Utility (in ~Applications/Utilities)
    • Set the correct Ownership & Permissions for the iTunes folder:
Select the iTunes folder in ~/Users/YourUsername/Music.
    Get Info (command-I).
Expand 'Ownership & Permissions' and 'Details:'
You must read: 'You can Read & Write': if not, change it.

Delete the email. The zip file will have no effect on your iPhone.

If the cover you bought is not a legitimate apple cover than you may be having the same issue I had.
The one I purchased has a top cover swivel, if you spin it around( meaning the top case cover)
The magnet will return to the correct spot and it will work again. It is only located at one end of the case.
    Hope this might help:)

  • After 10.4.3 upgrade, problems resuming from standby

I have a Powerbook G3 Pismo 400 MHz with 576 MB RAM. After upgrading to 10.4.3, every time I open the lid to resume from standby, the powerbook freezes, even when no programs are open. It shows the desktop as it was previously, but the mouse will not move, the keys have no effect, etc. This lasts for approximately 25-30 seconds, after which time it becomes responsive again and acts normally.
I've noticed that this occurs if I have the powerbook plugged in to the A/C, but don't have the battery in. If I put the battery in, it doesn't exhibit this problem. I've tried fixing the disk permissions, and reinstalled from the combo update download, but that didn't help.
Has anyone else experienced this, is there a solution, and does Apple monitor this forum for bug reports, or is there another way to submit a bug report?

Thanks Dave; I tried dragging the folders on the CD onto the desktop and they copy okay, and indicate by size they are full. They open on the desktop with all showing in them. So I copied all the CDs I use and re-burned them -- they will now read okay so I do not need to drag files to the desktop first, but can get it right from the CD. Seems like a lot of extra hassle for something that should be very simple to do. ;-} Again, i appreciate your suggestion, and quick response.

  • White screen when resuming from standby

    Hey,
For about a week when I resume from standby by opening the lid I get a white screen.
I'm using a MacBook Pro 2,7 GHz, Intel Core i7 with 4 GB ram bought in September this year (2011). Fully updated as of today.
Basically, I close the lid of the laptop before I go to sleep and when I open it the next day the screen goes white. So far I have remedied this by pushing the power button which forces the Shut Off options to appear and the white screen is gone.
Is this something I should be concerned about? I've read about the "White Screen of Death."
    Anyone else have this issue?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
    Test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • USB ports don't work after resuming from standby with Windows 8 on X230 tablet

I have just done a clean install of Windows 8 on my X230 tablet.  Before installing Windows 8 I installed the most recent BIOS for this machine (version 2.50).  After installing Windows 8 I installed System Update from the Lenovo Website and downloaded all the recommended drivers and other files.  I've also installed all the latest Windows 8 updates.
Here are the symptoms of my problem: After resuming from standby/sleep mode, my USB ports do not work.  My computer has two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 2.0 ports.  All exhibit the same behavior.  After resuming from standby mode I have tried inserting both my mouse and a USB thumbdrive, but neither are recognized.  After restarting Windows, the USB ports work again... until I resume from standby mode again.
I hope there is a solution to this issue.  It is very frustrating.

Thanks for the suggestion about tweaking the "Allow this computer to turn off this device" feature.  I un-checked that box for every entry I could find under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" in the Devide Manager.  Unfortunately, the same symptoms of my problem persisted.
I went back and looked at the README file associated with the BIOS 2.50 download on Lenvo's support site.  At the bottom of the file it gives a "Summary of Changes".  Under version 2.03 of the BIOS (the version just before version 2.50), it says:
    - (Fix) Fixed an issue where USB device might not detected when system resume from sleep mode.
This indicates that Lenovo support was already aware of such issues.  The problem was intended to be fixed in version 2.03 of the BIOS.  However, the issue persists on my machine, even with the latest BIOS.
Hopefully someone from Lenovo can comment here.

  • Backlight hotkeys dead following resume from standby

    this is a strange problem...
sometimes (but not every time) when i resume from standby or hibernate, my backlight hot keys (Fn + Home/End) are dead and i am stuck at the backlight level that the computer was at when it went down. only way to fix it is to reboot.
    help!

I have the same issue. The screen brightness at times just gets stuck. No way to get the hotkeys to work (unless I reboot) . I can't change the brightness via the control panel either.
Any ideas about how to fix this would be much appreciated.

  • X1 USB mouse resumes from standby even though disabled in Device Manager

I don't want mouse movement to resume the X1 from standby (sleep). So I have gone into Win 8.1 Device Manager under power mgt tab and unchecked the box that enables this. However, the X1 still resumes from standby if the mouse is moved.
Is there something else -- like in the BIOS -- that I need to do?

I have also found that keyboard does not seem to be able to wake this computer in any case, even though the box is checked in Device Mgr for keyboard to do so. However, if I uncheck the box for keyboard, then mouse does not wake computer either. It is as though the checkbox in Device manager for the mouse is not relevant. Only the checkbox for keyboard matters as regards the mouse, and the keyboard can't wake the computer regardless.

  • 35% CPU after resume from Standby

After comming out of standby, CPU runs at 35% busy for a long time (30 minutes or more). Reboot and CPU is 2%. Is there a reason why resuming from Standby is crippling the system. The CPU time is in a SYSTEM process with no other information (Task Manager) and just runs and runs and runs.  The system is 4 days old and I have not made changes to the BIOS settings.

Thanks for the reply but the solution related to a docking station problem and I do not have a docking station. But the problem has gone away. Why? I do not know. That is actually more distressing because there was no cause to link the problem to. So who knows when it will just start again. I did change the power options to not hibernate but then changed them back. The change seems to have made the problem go away. Turn it off then back on and it runs differently. Not very comforting.

  • T60 Slow to Resume from Standby

I have noticed that ever since replacing my HD, because of (1) bad sectors and (2) it was getting noisy, it takes a long time for my T60 to resume from standby, sometimes 2 - 5 mins before it gets going again. If I shut down and restart all seems to be fine although not as fast as pre HD replacement. It seems only to be a problem when I go to and from standby. Any ideas?
Recent changes that may have impacted - I replaced my OEM 60G HD with a WD 500G HD by cloning the HD using Acronis. I didn;t reload the OS. I did have to change some BIOS settings to get the new HD to be recognised by the BIOS - something about compatability mode - not 100% sure. I'll add more details once I reboot and check these. (it was AHCI to Compatability I have since changed to AHCI again to see if this has an impact). Otherwise all else is the same. I originally cloned the HD to extend the partition to the full size of the new HD but noticed it was a lot slower and had an annoying habit of accessing the HD on a regular (approx) 1 sec interval even when idle. So I changed the partition size to about 100G thinking it would have to span physically less of the HD using Paragon HD Manager and it did make it faster.
    I have Win XP SP3 2G RAM, T60 with Intel CPU T2400 @1.83GHz

Sounds to me that you should get your harddrive checked. You shouldn't notice any difference in speed between a 60GB drive and a 500GB drive, apart from the fact that the 500GB drive should in theory be faster. At least given if they're both the same RPM (5400 or 7200 most likely).
If the problem persists, even after running a hardware-diagnostic, I'd recommend reinstalling. Changing the harddrive by cloning it shouldn't present any problems of this kind, but one never knows - it's amazing what can be solved by reinstalling, sometimes

  • SP A60: Upon resume from standby, why devices don't work?

    Hi there,
A question about my Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 (P2.8GHz, 40GB, Win XP Pro, as factory-delivered and extended with Belkin 54G PC-card wireless network adapter).
When the laptop wakes up from standby, several devices don't work anymore, e.g. the wireless network-card. I haven't found anything to (un)check for Wakeup-On-Lan, resume, power management or anything similar.
After a full reboot, all works fine again.
What could I do to let all devices work the same after waking up from stand-by?
Thanks in advance for your reply.
    Regards,
    Herman Zandt

    Hi Horwath
Indeed not easy to explain. It doesn't make any difference if I use an AC power supply or battery, the same problem happens with both power sources.
I re-checked the whole issue: upon pressing the on-switch on the SP A60 whilst it is blinking yellow (ie. A60 is in standby mode), it reboots perfectly without any errors. All devices work, ie. connectivity wireless card with base station ("excellent"), USB-ports, modem is recognised, touchpad works, DVD/CD-RW reads and soundcard works. (In fact, subject of this email is not correct anymore...)
To be precise, what is NOT working is the data transfer, neither in my internal zone (LAN), nor outside (the Internet).
Summarised: upon resuming from standby, the SP-A60 operates as being purely local without recognising anything outside the machine, despite the wireless network card being properly installed and excellent connectivity with the base station shown.
As said, after full reboot all works fine again. No settings or checks have been found related to this. I'm running the latest BIOS.
Any ideas? A hardware- or software-related issue?
    Thanks a zillion,
    Herman
