Retail Leopard disc will not install on Jan/08 MacBook 2.2ghz?

I purchased a used MacBook 2.2ghz with 4GB of RAM in it. It has Leopard 10.5.3 on it, however it is setup with the previous owner's details and some files. I wanted to wipe the hard drive and install Leopard from my own family pack. I purchased this disc from apple.com, I DID NOT pirate or burn it, it is an original disc in my family pack retail box of Leopard.
When I try to boot on the disc, is starts the setup like normal but then it says "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer, please check the system requirements."
I obviously meet the system requirements as Leopard is already on there, and this very Leopard disc worked on my older MacBook. Is it possible that even though the MacBook I purchased came with Tiger, it was made after Leopard and therefore this disc cannot install on it? I'm very confused here.
The disc is labeled as follows:
Mac OS X Leopard
Install DVD
Version 10.5
2Z691-6307-A
The MacBook box has the following labeling:
MB 13.3/2.2/2x512/120/SD-DL/WHITE
MB062LL/B
Model No: A1181
Any ideas? I am stumped!

The seller may have given you the wrong discs if you have Tiger restore discs. The model number of MacBook you mention (MB062LL/B) came with Leopard and not Tiger. See here: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP12
You need to reinstall by using the Leopard install discs that originally shipped with this Mac. 10.5.0 on your Family Pack DVD is older than what came preinstalled on the MacBook. No Mac computer can run an older OS than what originally shipped with it. Apple has a tech note about this here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186

Respecting to virus protection, OS X has got its own security systems, so you don't need any additional application. If you want more information > http://www.reedcorner.net/mmg
Finally, you are running OS X Mountain Lion, the most recent OS X update, and as you don't have any problem with it, leave this version and you will save headaches

  • XPsp2 disc will not install-ejects

Boot camp partition process works fine. When install disk is inserted, optical drive starts up, screen flickers to black, then music and grey screen, then disk ejects hanging machine in grey screen. Manual shut down and restart comes up w black screen and message "no bootable disk". Another manual restart w option key to select MAC HD as boot drive and then reselect in System Pref and everything is fine. Happens every time with two different install discs.
XP disk is "Student Media/Work at Home Media" purchased thru the University. Other is "Systems Student Media".
Two calls to support, no help. One guy said "we don't work with that call XP".
Genius bar verified disks were correct and that optical drive and hard drive were functioning "perfectly". Tech said either its' the disk or the operating software and it was not the disk. Said I should reinstall Leopard (Not an upgrade-machine came with it. After consultation said to reinstall just BootCamp. They would not look at the console messages and said they weren't trained in that.
Looked at reinstalling BOOT Camp, but it does not seem to appear as a stand alone on the Leopard Install and did not come up in Applications install, just mail, safari etc.
Console messages show boot camp, then log in window starting security agent, then authorization host invoking mechanism, then security agent invoking mechanism then "security agent[80]: Mechanism Destroy".
I have to believe that this is the problem and am looking at repairing permissions, but from these forums am scratching my head a little about that. Would like to have a better idea of what to do. The IT guys here are few and far between and the medical group cannot support mac anyway. Love the machine, a little disappointed in Apple's responses so far and wonder if any of you might have some advice for an old windows guy who would really like to be converted. Just need it for the business connection with exchange. I promise I will not run it for anything else. Other idea is to go buy Parallels or a commercial XPsp2, but those are shots in the dark at this point. Does sound like a security issue, but don't know for sure what to do.
    Thanks for your patience.

  • Leopard just will not install on my ibook

I just bought a secondhand copy of OS X Leopard, to update my ibook G4.
Im pretty good with computers but I just don't understand why after the initial restart, nothing happens.
Its supposed to restart then come up with a window and you choose your language and choose where you want to install it etc, but all it does is just reload and show the first window - the same one that its shows when you first put the disc in.
Am I doing something wrong? Is the disc faulty?
    Please help!!

It could be  a couple of things.
    1. Does your iBook have at least 867Mhz CPU and enough RAM?
    Minimum System Requirements
    * Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    * 512MB of physical RAM
    2. Are you using a retail Install DVD or a grey one? The grey ones are model specific and not suitable for general upgrading.
They are the obvious things to clear up first.
If the above is OK, Restart and hold down the C key to boot into the install DVD.

  • Photoshop cs2 disc will not install

I had Photoshop CS2 installed on my old iMac, which recently crashed, so I purchased a new MacBook Pro. I used Time Machine to transfer all my data from my 2006 iMac to my new MacBook Pro. Transfer of data was successful, except for Photoshop CS2, which was "X-ed" out and would not load when selected. So I took out my purchased Photoshop CS2 disc (which I bought new and still have the receipt for) and attempted to re-install, but with no luck. I removed all previous PS files like several forums recommended and attempted several more times to install PS via disc, but again, no luck. The Message I get is "The installation failed. The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." So I am contacting you for guidance on how to resolve this issue. I understand PS CS2 is no longer supported (I even downloaded the file from you site to install PS CS2 https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=cs2%5Fdownloads but this was also unsuccessful), but I sure could use your help. Thank you.

CS2 will only work on old PowerPC Macs. It isn't compatible with the Intel processor in new Macs. There is nothing you can do I'm afraid.

  • Just formatted my mac but iLife (from original disc) will not install

    hi all!
I've done a routine format of my Macbook Pro 13" a couple of weeks ago, it all went well but I seem not to be able to install the bundled applications from the orignal, grey cd that came with my mac.
I insert the cd, start the procedure then just after keying in my admin password the insatllation stops...i.e. it fails to start.
As new, my machine runs OSX 10.6.6 but I've already upgraded to 6.8 ... I've tried to install iLife before and after upgrading.
I've been to an Apple Store — since my laptop is less than a year old — but they say warranty doesn't cover software...in any case, I've also tried to install an iPhoto downloaded from the internet, but with the same results, so I'm thinking it might not be a corrupt disc...
Any idea other than re-formatting the machine?
    thanks!
    dani

Erase and install 10.6 again, but this time use the Security Option > Zero All Data on the drive, you have bad sectors.
Reducing bad sectors effect on hard drives
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
If that doesn't work, then your cd is bad. clean it and try again or try extracting iLife using Pacifist. (but you need your bad sector issue resolved)
Also run through this list and get back with me, I doubt anything else is a problem on a fresh install, but there might be.

  • MAC-EOS Ver 30.2 Solution Disc will not install

Im running a macbook pro with the latest OSX update 10.10.4 and have tried installing the Ver 30.2 Solutions disc that came with my 5DS ....and it won't install. I click on the set up Icon and it bounces in the dock then dissapears and that's IT .....I have tried the same with the download from canon and its the same deal. Is this happening to anyone else .....

Having Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) is likely a problem.  You're trying to install new software on a very old operating system version.  I find that software written for 10.8 will usually work on 10.9 and 10.10... but 10.6 is old enough to have some significant differences and will likely have compatibility issues. If your computer has a 64-bit Intel processor then it can be updated to 10.10 (and OS updates from Apple are all free.)  While most new computers tend to have an Intel i5 or i7 processor, I still have a very old MacBook Pro that only has an Intel Core2 Duo -- and even it can run 10.10.

  • HELP CS2 will not install on my new MacBook - it's killing me!

    Hi Guys
Okay I'm tearing my hair out here! This is carrying on from an earlier issue.
I connected my new MacBook to an iBook to transfer my stuff across, the thing is CS2 didn't transfer properly so on the advice of Adobe after trashing what I had transfered I tried to install it from scratch using the discs. Here's the thing it won't install. I put disk 1 in go through the licensing agreement, the serial number etc. get to the install bit, click install and nothing, nothing happens. Both Adobe and Apple seem at a loss to explain this.
Can anyone help I desparately need these programmes for work?
    Thanks Jim!
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

so you copied over documents and applications?
apps should always be installed, never copied.
CS2 puts files all over your system, not just in your applications folder. - it will be very difficult to manually delete everything associated with CS2.
if it were me, i would backup any important documents (on dvd or an external drive) and reformat the drive, re-install the os than install CS2 from the installer disk.

  • My Final Cut Studio Box disc package Icon disc will not load, kicked out by MAcBook...any advice...disc player works nothing wrong with it.

I also did not have time untill now to start sorting through the mess, one of the things I am sorting.... is to get my Final Cut Studio Pro 7 up and running...
I bought the disk set (box) with the lap top, back when I first bought my MacBookPro, everything together ......I loaded the disks package onto the computer back then no problem and have had the disk in a cuboard since then.....
I tried to reload the package onto my computer but the first disc....the ICON disc just keeps getting kicked out....
without it I cannot load my Final Cut Package....
    What should I do?

FWIW, I've had malfunctioning optical drives that could play video DVDs, but not read installation DVDs…or able to read install disks for Apple apps, but not third party apps.
the disc version (Final Cut Studio Pro7) that was sold as a box set with everything included (motion/color and so on) is not realy supported by the newer Apple's as you now have to buy Final Cut X Online, download and pay for everything seprately.
It's true that Apple stopped supporting Final Cut Studio applications, but I don't know any reason why they shouldn't install and function with newer OS versions and Macs (as long as a working DVD drive can be connected).

  • Elements 4 will not install on my new MacBook Pro

Bought Elements 4 in 2007 for my previous Power Mac and now just upgraded to a Macbook Pro and the program won't install .
Get the message that this version no longer supported for new the Intel Chip Macs. I know the version is old but worked perfectly well for my purposes.
So do I just chuck that money away and fork out for another proggie?  What is the next version?
    Thanks

Yes, you need a new version, one written for intel macs. PSE 6 is the very oldest than can be coaxed to work in 10.8, but PSE 11 is the current version. But then August is usually not a smart month for buying PSE.

  • Thundrbolt firmware update 1.2 will not install using yosemite on macbook pro retina

Cannot install thunderbolt firmware update 1.2 on macbook 13 in retina running yosemite.  Have tried disconnection all peripherals.  No success.

Probably your Thunderbolt display is already up-to date. To check this, follow these steps:
Choose About This Mac from the Apple () menu.
Click More Info and then click System Report.
Click Thunderbolt in the list on the left and locate the Thunderbolt Display section. If the Firmware Version is  26.2 and the Port Micro Firmware Version is 2.0.7, you won't need this update.
I bought my ATD one year ago, and according to Apple it is "up-to date"... But I still have serious problems with it (follow this thread).
