Retain file names in layers when importing

Is it possible in Illustrator CC to import 40 files and have each layer retain the file name
When I import multiple files each image layer is labeled <image>
Thanks!

Simply open the comp that is created when you import an AI file as a composition. You're making work for yourself.
You are not understanding how After Effects treats assets. Each asset is the size of the asset with the anchor point in the center. Retaining layer sizes means each layer in the Illustrator file is imported in a folder as a separate asset the size of the layer. It's the same with Photoshop files imported as a composition.

  • File name gets renamed when imported to iTunes?

Recently I've been using a program called 4K Youtube to MP3 to export files from my youtube channel. Since I won't be having access to the computer with the original mp3 files anymore, I started downloading files from youtube. Everything was going well, until yesterday, when I downloaded a set of playlists like I had always been doing.
The problem I got was when I downloaded the youtube songs and accessed them through finder, they were named the same title as the video on youtube. However, when I opened the file and imported it to iTunes like I had always been doing, all the songs had been somehow renamed to DNBosarusRex, artist renamed to DJ Dream. I had only gotten this error after using a file renamer to get rid of things like [Free] from the mp3 file title, but even after redownloading I still got the same problem. Anyway to fix this?

BUMP I'm also trying to do the same thing and also experiencing the same issues!

  • Prores files not recognized... most of the time [message -- file '[file name].mov' cannot be imported – this 'MooV' file is damaged or unsupported.]

Running AE CC 13.2 on iMac with Yosemite 10.10.2
I just started getting an error message when trying to import any number of ProRes 422 (HQ) files.
file ‘[file name].mov’ cannot be imported – this ‘MooV’ file is damaged or unsupported.
This happens approximately 90% of the time. There have been occasions where I can open and view files of this type.
I have gone through the various troubleshooting options here:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2013/08/solutions-for-problems-with-quicktime-files-in -after-effects-cc-12-0-because-of-conflict-with-dvcprohdvideoout-quicktime-component.html
I reinstalled ProApps to no avail.
    Permissions are fine.
Creative Cloud recently updated AE over the past few days. Perhaps this incremental update fouled something up? Last weekend, things worked perfectly fine.
I have also noticed that it takes a lot longer to load AE (since using last weekend). I have used Time Machine to roll the application back to last week's version to see if that helps.
    Any insight is appreciated.

The update last week was just to Adobe Camera RAW and not really AE. It would be unlikely to cause the issues you describe. Have you tried turning your Mac all the way off and then back on again?

  • Is there some secret to getting Pentax K-3 .dng files to display thumbnails when importing to an iPad (mini w/retina)? Files import fine, but no thumbnail. Mac OS has compatability with those files.

Is there some secret to getting Pentax K-3 .dng files to display thumbnails when importing to an iPad (mini w/retina)? Files import fine, but no thumbnail. Mac OS had compatibility with those files added long ago. Am I missing something?

I agree Terrance. However, I was able to copy other large batches of other files (my music for example) without any issues. The issue only showed up when copying iPhoto's library and/or the photos themselves. This was repeated 3 times; I copied all my other files to the drive then it unmounted on iPhoto. And, as I said, again when I started with a fresh reformat and just iPhoto. That does not seem like hardware to me if it is only happening with one set of files.
I have managed to get the iPhoto library to work on my other external drive. It wanted a rebuild twice and a thumbnail rebuild once. I am now attempting to copy it over to the new HGST internal drive.
Anyone have a suggestion for alternatives to iPhoto? I have aperture, maybe I will try that. But from what I understand, it just shares the same library as iPhoto.

  • How to retain file name while saving file on archive servers

    Hi Experts,
    I am using function modules:
ARCHIVOBJECT_CREATE_TABLE and ARCHIV_CONNECTION_INSERT for inserting a file to archive server and for linking it with a document.
Then I am reading the URL using FM: SCMS_AO_URL_READ. When I get this URL and download that file, the file name will be always defaulted to 'pclHTTP.dll'. I debugged these FMs to a certain extent and found that this name comes from CREP_HTTP-HTTP_SCRPT table.
Is there any way I can retain the file name while saving it so that when I read the URL it has correct file name in it?
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Anand Kolte

    Hi Max,
In case when downloading one file it is fine. But if I want to download 10 files at once and later if I go to my downloads, every file will be having similar name. Unless we open the file, we cannot know what file it is.
    Regards,

  • Can I change the File name of pics when capturing with iPhoto?

Hi, I am a new user of Macbook and Mac OS, so, maybe this is a stupid issue.
I have a sony cybershot and I was wondering if when I capture my pics from the camera with iPhoto I could change the name of the picture file?....or the filename will always be the one of the camera (f.e: DSCXXXXX) or I will have to change the name manually using Finder.
I ask this because when I used to connect my camera into my old pc, windows activated the camera wizard and I could name all the pictures filename as the same and the wizard just capture them to my HD with that name just adding numbers (f.e: I named Miami trip, and the wizard named all of them Miami Trip 001, Miami Trip 002, and so on)
    Thank you

You'll need to rename the files before importing them. So. move the files from the camera to a folder on the desktop (either by drag and drop or using Image Capture) and then use a file renaming utility such as  FileList to rename the files. Then continue your import. (iPhoto -> File -> Import to Library)
The reason for this is because Filenames are irrelevant in iPhoto. You can add titles to the Photos, and, on export, use those titles as Filenames (check the possibilities in the File -> Export dialogue). You can also Batch Title photos using the Photos -> Batch Change command. This is what I do - on Import I name the Event (Italy 07) then when the pics are in use the Batch Change command to title the pics.
Are you doing this to make your pics easier to find? There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser. Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Also, for 10.5 users: If you use the extended Open or Attach dialogue (with Column View) you can scroll to the bottom of the Shortcuts and find the Media browser there. Select any pic you want from there.

  • File names get jumbled when using Add Folder to Library

I have a set of .mp3 files created by playing vinyl LPs into a software sound recorder. Each of these is named with a number as the first two characters of the file name (the track number) and then the name of the song.
I create the appropriate folder with the ArtistName and subfolder with the AlbumName in the Itunes directory and then copy the .mp3 files into the subfolder.
My problem occurs when I 'Add Folder to Library'. The .mp3 files don't change, but the names of the tracks listed in the Itunes library are goofed up. There is no strict pattern, but mainly it shows the 3rd track having the 2nd track's name, the 4th track has the 3rd track's name, etc. I have to go back and rename all the tracks to make the Itunes Library match the actual .mp3 files. (I can tell they are mis-assigned by the file sizes).
It might be a Windows-only thing, I'm not sure. Any idea how I can make the Itunes Library match its index to the actual files added when importing? Or is there some other technique I should use to import these .mp3 files?
It is possible it is related to the fact that that initially the internal data in the .mp3 files merely shows 'Freecorder' for the Album and Artist in every file.
Where can I report this as an 'official' bug to Apple?

Actually, your suggestion was somewhat helpful. It wasn't the 'Freecorder' in the Artist and Album slots. But when I look at the properties of the files generated by Freecorder in Windows Explorer, it appears the internal file names are being mis-matched with the actual .mp3 file names, so it's Freecorder that's creating the problem.
Interesting. OK, It looks like it isn't an Itunes problem after all. But it's easy enough to edit the internal properties tags (Windows Explorer/ Right-Click / Properties / Summary) before I add the folder to Itunes.
    Thanks.

  • How to retain File Names in B2B

    Hi,
My requirement is to FTP a file from Source system to an Target System through B2B.
Eg. Say Customer_PO.xml has to be FTP to DELL using B2B from SONY.
    Customer_PO.xml (SONY ) ->B2B ->Customer_PO.xml ( DELL )
So here when we transfer the file through B2B, the file name will change either to TO_PARTY (DELL.xml ) or FROM_PARTY (SONY.xml) depending on the Filename format configuration in B2B and we don’t want this to happen.
We want to retain the File Name as it is from source to target as Customer_PO.xml only.
    Please advise us on this.
    Thank you in advance.
    Kanth

I am not sure how much this applies to your scenario, but you can refer here

  • Is the prores file that FCPx creates when importing c300 .mxf files stable/quality enough to then copy to other drives for further use? Are there any quality disadvantages to doing that?

Im wondering if I can directly copy the prores files fcpx creates when importing c300 .mxf files from the "original media" folder, reimport them for another project to and use them that way. Is there any problem with working that way? I'm doing this bc I want to have an organize finder structure for a client but cant break the c300 card structure to split clips on a card into different "scenes" to make it easier for them to understand what they're looking at. This is all to stay NLE nuetral--we like fcpx but they might want to edit somewhere else and more details in the finder level seems like the best solution? Suggestions on any of that? Thanks.

Thanks for your response. Are you sure that FCPx is working with .mxf/c300 natively? I thought it was just a background sort of repackaging or transcode into prores that it does without you having a choice? And bc of that, for me, it's sort of a "back end" feeling file: I'm curious if it's bad to get into the package contents folder to copy it over? Not about copying prores in general-- specifically, is the prores created of c300 footage in fcpx more of a fcpx, high quality alias file? Maybe I'm just feeling a little uncomfortable grabbing things from the inside/finder level of fcpx.

  • In Photoshop Elements 8-I want the file name to show when viewing Thumbnails and not just dates.

  • Can AVCHD files be not copied when imported?

When I import AVCHD files they are copied even though in the preferences I have selected "Leave files in place" and I leave that option checked in the import dialog. Is there any way to prevent AVCHD files from being copied?
Other types of files are not copied when I import them.

My exact specifications and work process:
I use two separate video cameras. One is a Panasonic HDC-TM900K; the other is a Panasonic HDC-TM700K. I record in AVCHD onto SanDisk 32 GB SD cards.
When filming is complete, I copy the entire contents of each separate SD card into its own folder, labelled according to camera and capture date.
In the past, this has allowed me to import into FCP 10.0.x and work directly with the AVCHD files without having to transcode or copy them. I have used this exact process dozens of times since the release of FCP 10.0.x.
Just this most recent time, after upgrading to FCP 10.1, while importing the same AVCHD files from the same SD cards and the same video cameras, the option to "leave files in place" was disabled.
I do understand that FCP 10.1 uses "Libraries" to organize media, and that this is a major change in how it organizes media files. I figured that this change was responsible for the difference in behavior.
I was hoping there was a way to continue to work with AVCHD card folders without having to copy or transcode.

  • File name renamed from Skydrive import

When I Open in a PDF in Skydrive, the resulting PDF in Adobe Reader (iPhone) has its file name renamed to File_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. How do I prevent this from happening?

I think this is an issue with the SkyDrive app not Adobe Reader as I have found it happens when you open SkyDrive docs in other apps like ibooks too. Don't know how to fix it I am afraid. A few others have also noticed this. See this Microsoft forum:
